    Chicken Pot Pie

American Pie Company offers an exceptional diner experience. And do not miss out on the bevy of delicious baked goods in front! We saw no need to over complicate things. The Chicken Pot Pie, the house speciality, is excellent. Something about it just tastes homemade. The crust is flaky, crispy and light, and it is stuffed with choice chunks of chicken and veggies. Also, unless you happen to play offensive line for your local NFL team, this is not a personal-sized portion. It is meant to be shared and could readily serve as lunch for three. The service was also great. We had a big group and no reservation, then also asked to change tables after ordering. (Admittedly annoying). The servers were extremely accommodating though and helped make our lunch dreams true.

Cute breakfast spot that serves up big plates and hospitality! Came for breakfast Friday morning and as you enter through the bakery side, you can see all their pies, cookies and cupcakes. The dining area off to the right is cute and charming. Service is friendly and food portions are huge! 1 cute thing they, any item off the kids menu gets a free cookie from the bakery. My daughter was very happy as she got to pick out a cookie of her choice.

The perfect sendoff after a weekend in CT. The breakfast here is so good and priced to perfection. The space inside is homey and cozy -- great for families and bigger groups. We came here as a group of 4 on Sunday around 1pm and sat immediately. Service was good, staff is friendly. Oatmeal Pancakes: Served with warm spiced apples on top, these 3 pancakes are fluffy and sweet on their own, with a bit of crunch inside from the nuts (which almost seem candied). At $15 for 3 excellent pancakes, I found these to be a great deal. The spiced apples absolutely made this dish. These were great with a side of bacon and eggs as well. Deliciously great breakfast! The portions are very hearty also. The service was so great you wouldn't know that there was only one waitress taking care of a full restaurant at 9:30am. Excellent job! The sausage gravy was scrumptious. And the cheese crepe divine. Definitely a go to.

This place has delicious food. However, I docked them for the service. I docked them 2 stars for it because every time I go I get a waiter with a lot of attitude and I'm not the only one - the place has a rep for it. This last time a lot of attitude was given when asked about the tea selection. One friend asked for tea. Another friend came a few minutes later and asked for tea but specifically asked what kind of tea they had and much to friend 1's surprise they had a selection. We asked if Friend 1 could get different tea because she didn't like her default tea (she had barely drank out of it) and A LOT of attitude was given. Why so salty? It's hot water... you don't even steep it...

A popular place for breakfast, they also have an excellent lunch and dinner menu. The French Onion Soup, Louisiana Nachos, Chicken Pot Pie, Fish & Chips were all excellent and large portions. I saved room for the lemon Meringue pie!

Context is important. A decent sushi meal in a rural part of the midwest where no other option for…read moresushi exists might deserve five stars, though in NYC, it might merit one. Mediocre popcorn chicken in Taiwan might earn five twinkles in NYC, where the competition is almost non-existent. Sparrow (unrelated to The Sparrow in Brooklyn) is a clear five stars for the New Milford area, a wonderfully rural-ish part Connecticut that nonetheless supports a fairly vibrant restaurant scene. It's one of our favorite restaurants between Danbury and Kent, and if we were to pluck it up and drop it down somewhere in Manhattan, it would still merit at least four stars, probably five. Chef Mike Sorensen's kitchen plays with, and tweaks, the menu often, though a few mainstays have been a steady presence since the beginning. Both new dishes and old are well designed and consistently well executed, while at the bar, cocktails are similarly well designed and competently mixed. Owner John Bourdeau always seems to be present, working alongside his friendly staff as part of a very well oiled operation. On a recent visit, we tried the KFC BAO ($13; two buns, fried chicken, gochujang bbq, sesame slaw, pickles, scallion), a longtime bastion on the menu. These were made with juicy chicken tenders, coated in a remarkably crisp, but not overly thick, crust and a spicy, sweet, salty sauce. The acidity of pickles and slight crisp of slaw kept the gochujang sauce from being overwhelming. We've had plenty of fusion bao in other places involving similar ingredients, but Sparrow's version was unusually well executed. YELLOWFIN TUNA POKE ($22; cucumber, avocado, sambal aioli, sweet soy, scallion, jasmine rice) was commendably fresh and well-cut, about even in quality to what a good mid-tier sushi establishment might serve. I don't love aioli with fish, but its presence was not excessive. The only weak point of this dish was the rice, which was too hard and dry to work with poke. A short- or at least medium-grain rice performs far better in this context. Perfectly ripe avocado, crisp, sliced radishes, and pickled jalepeno gave the dish a possibly Mexican-esque twist. KALE CHOP ($14; local kale, olive oil vinaigrette, soppressata, mozzarella, pecorino, red onion, olive, tomato) included relatively tender kale and small amounts of each listed ingredient. I would've liked to have had more of the non-kale elements, but the salad was nicely dressed and in balance. There was more of that incredibly crispy chicken in the CHICKEN MILANESE main ($26; salsa verde, tomato, arugula, lemon citronette, pecorino). I can't hold it against any kitchen for having an ingredient do double duty of course (the same way my poached chicken goes into both korma and enchilladas verde). But the primary consumer did note that he would have ordered something a little less samey had he known. I loved the transformative brightness of salsa verde with the chicken. Since I'm horribly predictable, I again ordered the WILD STRIPED BASS ($32; potato + celery root salad, tarragon vinaigrette, pea shoots, lupine). The fish was presented with enough variation to keep things interesting, however. The basic preparation of the striped bass was the same (a thick pavé cut, lightly salted, pan fried), but with a lovely green tarragon vinaigrette instead of dill vinaigrette that absorbed winningly into the diced potato and celery root. The potato and celery root appeared virtually indistinguishable, so it was sort of fun to guess which root vegetable I was spearing with my fork, and the slightly sweeter, firmer flavor of the latter was especially enjoyable alongside the fish. Tender pea shoots replaced the sorrel used in the prior iteration. Two of my convives chose to order pizza, each 12" and just the right size for a hungry adult. Both the SONGBIRD ($20; red sauce, mozz, soppressata, pecorino, crushed red pepper, honey) and the ASPIRATIONAL CLUTTER ($23; red sauce, mozz, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions, sweet peppers, olives) came on sturdy sourdough crust, generously topped, with cheese and sauce in good balance. The LEXINGTON ($16; Redemption Rye, Amaro Nonino, nutmeg, lemon, club soda, mint) -- likely a reference to the city of that name in KY, not MA -- was served in a mint julep cup and drank a lot like a mojito: light and refreshing. The Pardner had the SAN FRANCISCO ($16; chile infused rum, coconut cream, smoky pineapple, coconut + cinnamon), which was pleasantly smoky, not overly sweet, and charmingly served in a tiki mug. Chef Sorenson does a wonderful job of fine tuning the menu based on what they are able to source locally and serving ingredients at their peak season. Even frequent diners won't be bored by the constantly evolving food. More here: https://eatersdigestnyc8.wordpress.com/2026/07/27/sparrow-bar-and-restaurant-new-milford-connecticut/

This was a quick decision and drive-by choice. So no biggie but had it been an anniversary I would have been irritated. Hospitality was great. Super friendly just and servers and excellent service. My wine pour was very generous. The pizza with sopressata and honey drizzle was spicy and delicious and well priced. The Bahn Mi salad was delicious, beautifully prepared and topped with a grilled chicken breast., We really enjoyed it. An area of opportunity would have been to be more generous with the amount of actual food, particularly when it's an entree at dinner time. I took a quick glance online and ordered the crab cake appetizer and then asked if they had a green salad, she said she could give me a box to make one at the salad bar. Perfect, I just wanted something green and healthy after a day of traveling. I arrive. She gives me the box and I proceed to put in lettuce, cucumbers a bit of come slaw and dressing. I go to pay and give her my card. As I'm getting in my car I look at the receipt and it's $38!!! $14 for the crab cake and $18.95 for the green salad. Had it not been pouring down raining I would have gone back in and asked for a refund and left my green salad behind. I'm both surprised and disappointed the waitress/bartender who took the phone order wouldn't have said our green salads salads are $19. There wasn't even anything on the salad bar that would remotely warrant such a high price for salad. The crab cake which was very moderately priced at $14 was delicious. I'm not sure if their salad bar usually includes a lot of other things like soup, bread or more? If that's the case she could have easily said we're closing so I'm charging 1/2 off since you're just getting a plain salad. Needless to say it felt like being taken advantage of being charged so much for a plain salad. And have if be more than a great crab cake that was full of expensive crab meat was beyond odd.

Our party of four spent over $800 celebrating my mother's birthday. A few hours after the meal, my brother became seriously ill, and because I had also sampled his chicken dish and later experienced nausea myself, we were concerned the illness may have been related to the meal. When we contacted the restaurant to share our concerns, the conversations with management were disappointing. Joanne spoke separately with several members of our family and asked whether my brother had gone to the hospital, undergone testing, or had proof of illness. When I asked whether the restaurant maintained food safety documentation, I felt the question was viewed as accusatory rather than as part of a reasonable concern following our visit. Overall, the interaction lacked the empathy and reassurance we had hoped for. No refund, credit, or acknowledgment was offered. As longtime customers who have celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, and milestones here over the years, the response was surprising. Beyond the health concern, the overall dining experience felt noticeably less positive than in past visits. The bread exterior was very hard, and we noticed other nearby tables eating only the soft interior. The vegetables served with the scallops were tough, the pasta was dry, and most of the dishes (except for the pea soup) lacked flavor. The deserts were lackluster, though the goat cheese cheesecake was delicious. The cheese board appetizer was presented without explanation of the cheeses or accompaniments. Crumbs were not cleared between courses. While our server was friendly, we were repeatedly asked whether we had finished dessert, which made the evening feel somewhat rushed during a birthday celebration. The server also spent time discussing personal matters during service, which distracted from the dining experience. We had to find someone to get our coats otherwise we would've walked out without them. The ambiance at Community Table remains beautiful, which makes the experience especially unfortunate after so many positive visits over the years. Unfortunately, after this experience, our family will likely celebrate future special occasions at other restaurants in Litchfield County that we feel provide a stronger overall dining experience.
