BEST DECISION WE MADE IN NEW YORK. So glad we stayed here. We had a great stay at The Gotham. The location is super convenient -- everything we wanted to see was just a short walk away. It felt really nice to be in the middle of the city but still have a calm, quiet space to come back to. Our room was clean and comfortable, and having a balcony with a city view was a lovely bonus. The staff was kind and helpful, and check-in was fast and easy. Overall, it was exactly what we were looking for -- stylish, peaceful, and close to everything without feeling too crowded.

Typical room at The Gotham. Spacious and clean.

The Gotham offers clean, spacious rooms in Midtown for a reasonable (by NY standards) nightly rate. There's also a convenient little bodega immediately adjacent to the hotel. The staff was welcoming and accommodating. I had a great view of Midtown from my room on the 9th floor and even the tiniest of Juliette balconies to step onto to take in the city's vibe. The bath was clean, spacious (again, by NYC standards) and we'll appointed. Water pressure in the shower could have been better. This hotel loses a star for the reason many hotels fall short in my view - lack of electric outlets. In this modern world when everyone has multiple devices, the number and location of electric outlets at this hotel are sub par. There was one outlet near the desk with only one plug available. The same was true near the bed. I had electronics (I was traveling on business) scattered across the room because of the dearth of convenient outlets. Forget USB charging ports, I was desperate for more wall outlets. For all the effort to present a modern hotel look and experience, this hotel does a great job save convenient and sufficient points to charge your devices in-room. That said, I enjoyed my stay and the location was top drawer. I'll be back.

Dirty blanket photo, not sure the stains are clear

Two stars = just okay. But I would put 1.5 if I could. One seemed too harsh. It was challenging to pick a rating because one star is poor and three stars is good. Our stay was definitely not good, but I'm not sure it was poor either. Basic facts: we paid about $380 for the room and I believe a $27 resort fee so overall a little over $400 for a one night stay. We stayed the Saturday after thanksgiving. Let's start with the good. Staff was incredibly friendly. We arrived at the hotel around 12 pm on Saturday and planned to just leave our luggage since check in isn't until 4. Luckily they let us check in early so that was a great start. Location was perfect. Right off fifth so you could easily walk to stores, food places, and Central Park. Our room had a patio which is great for air. No view but the patio was still nice. Because it was a one night stay they also gave us a $10 credit for their mini bar/snacks. The not so great. The room was very dusty. We ended up wearing our shoes in the room because our feet were black from the dust if we went barefoot. This honestly didn't bother us that much since they have wood floors and we understand dust is normal. The room itself was okay. Nothing fancy, nothing great. There were a little things here and there, for example, the shower wasn't the cleanest, but we were fine, not worth a complaint. When we came back around 10:30 pm the doorman and concierge were watching a game, we're guessing basketball, so they didn't greet us. Again not bad and we're sports fanatics so we get it but since I'm writing this review I thought I'd point it out. The REALLY BAD was when we got into bed and there was dried blood stains on our comforter and yellow stains (If I can attach photos I will). So dust is not bad, yellow stains are gross but not that bad, but blood stains is unsanitary and calls for a potential health inspection. Diseases can be transferred through blood so this obviously freaked us out. We called the front desk, told them, and asked for a new comforter. They did apologize and came up quickly, but they came with a thin grey blanket. It's end of November so it's pretty chilly and we thought this was odd. The room has heat so we just turned the heat up but the blanket was also stained. Again if I can post photos I will. It was stained in the sense that maybe bleach was previously used and changed the grey fabric to yellow. Also, they did not take the blood blanket and just left it in our room. I tried to find someone on their website to contact about this but the only thing they have is their front desk email which didn't seem appropriate. We previously also emailed their front desk and they didn't timely respond, we had to email them twice to finally get a response. They were obviously aware that we had blood on our bed sheets and still nothing was done to apologize to us for the blood issues and it just seemed like a lot of issues for $400/night. We fly to New York multiple times a year to visit family and we like to try hotels to find favorites in different areas. We won't be back to the Gotham. New York is filled with hotels, so if you can stay elsewhere, I'd recommend doing just that.

    Many walls looked like this.

Not a nice hotel. The receptionist response to our complaint that the room was dirty was defensive. "Oh but you got a really nice room" that's not good services. It's too bad because they were so nice when we arrived. Shower had mold. Vents were dusty. Door knobs broken. Style standard. Refrigerator badly dented. Walls in poor shape. It's fine if I was paying $100 but not $600. Won't recommend. I stay at hotels all the time and this one I won't recommend or go back to.

Stay away from this hotel. I made a booking through expedia with insurance and the hotel refused to reimburse me or expedia when I had a family emergency and could not travel. Absolutely not worth the experience. And, after further investigation there have been several deaths on the premises.

Traveling during the holidays can be hectic, but the staff at the Park Hyatt made everything feel effortless. Every interaction -- from the front desk to housekeeping to the concierge -- was filled with genuine kindness, patience, and warmth. It was clear they weren't just doing their jobs; they truly cared about making our holiday special. The hotel itself is stunningly elegant yet incredibly comfortable. After long walks through Central Park, returning to our room felt like stepping into a peaceful retreat. The spaciousness, thoughtful details, and quiet luxury made it easy for our family to relax, laugh, and simply be together -- which is what the holidays are really about. We had our first breakfast in New York at the hotel's "the living room" which is located in the lobby. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful with modern decor and stunning 30 foot ceilings. We arrived at 7am as the restaurant just opened and Kamil greeted us with a warm genuine smile. We've stayed at 5 different Park Hyatts in the past 5 years (Kyoto being the most recent) and no one has made us feel as special as Kamil. He has the unique gift of hospitality. He went out of his way to treat us like family and made us feel very special. All of his small gestures, friendly smiles, and thoughtful attention to detail, turned simple moments into special memories. During a season meant for connection and joy, the Park Hyatt delivered both in abundance. Spending Christmas in New York is always special, but spending it at the Park Hyatt New York elevated the experience beyond anything we could have imagined. Our days were spent with full hearts, lasting memories, and deep gratitude for a team that understands true hospitality. This is a place we will return to -- not just for the luxury, but for the people who made us feel so genuinely at home during the most meaningful time of year.

Bonus-it was clean!! The iPad system to control the room is clever: manage the thermostat, tv, blinds/shades and lights. It takes a minute for the iPad to connect (not sure if it's a wifi issue or that these iPads are an older model). Speaking of the thermostat, it kinda worked. I think it shuts off or scales back when there's no movement in the room. I had a hard time getting it cooled down to a good temperature, so I didn't sleep as well as I would have liked. The bed is very comfortable, though...and even with the small space, there are plenty of places to hang clothes and store items. Several outlets and USB charging stations available as well. There aren't any washcloths - just hand/body towels... and it's up to you if you want to have your room lightly cleaned or fully turned over. (See your iPad to make that option). There was only one elevator working, so it could take a few minutes to get your lift up or down. The staff that we engaged with were great. Check in and out were super easy. The lobby is pretty cool and hip. There's a small rooftop bar/lounge and a nice sized food/canteen area in the lobby. The location is outstanding. 50th just off 8th Ave...right in the heart of Times Square and walking distance to many other destinations. I would stay here in the future...2-3 nights is perfect. Just make sure if you're traveling with a companion (and sharing a room) that you REALLY like them.

I stayed at this hotel over the New Years holiday and was thrilled to be so close to Madison Square Garden and Times Square. As was expected, check in was a bit chaotic given the time of year. The ground floor entrance was PACKED with luggage on first arrival. After weaving our way through, we located the check-in desk on the 5th or 6th floor. Tons of people but adequate seating to wait for our room to be ready. An upper floor meant having to figure out their dreaded elevator system. It left something to be desired, to say the least. With only 3 elevators that service the whole of the hotel, and a 4th that goes who knows where, it was almost always a lengthy struggle to catch one. No buttons on the interior of the carriage, all elevators were called with a touchscreen device that seemingly tried to pack as many people as possible into one small space, leaving many behind that couldn't fit, before directing the passengers to another elevator to repeat the whole process over again. One day was so bad, it was actually preferable to walk up the stairs to the 14th floor. Woof. The room itself was wonderful. Spacious, with 2 beds. Very clean. Beautiful view of the city and the arena next door. Great way to catch the sun set. Walk in shower with both an overhead and handheld shower attachment. Great lighting. Shower had heavily frosted glass that faced the bedroom area so be prepared for your silhouette to be on full display for anyone you may be rooming with. Nice sized closet, safe, and mini fridge. Big flat screen television. Window shade worked very well to block out the light if you're hoping to sleep in late. Walls can be a bit thin, especially if you have a rowdy bunch of kids right next door as we did. Aside from the elevators, the perks far outweighed the usual peskier elements (e.g., noise, etc.) one encounters when staying away from home. Would stay here again, perhaps during a less busy time of year, if that's even possible.
