The Grainery is such a cute local bar and restaurant that has live music on the weekends. The inside is a little small and choppy, but has a decent amount of seating. Not great for large groups unless you are planning on going to the outdoor patio. They also just made a very nice outdoor patio. Food was amazing. So glad that place is making it during the covid crap. This is my hometown and I love seeing new places doing well. The place is big. So nice inside. Luckily plenty of room to spread tables out. We had a party of 10 and they did a great job of accommodating us. The food was great. The service was great. They oops ip splitting the checks but it was a larger party so it was not a big deal. The brisket was great. Love how they butter and toast the buns. The nachos with shredded chicken were great. We had the regular pretzel bites and the new spicy ones. Both were really good. The spicy ones had cheese and jalapeño inside. The Mac n cheese was really good. Has crushes up crackers on top. The side of the day was a ranch bacon potato salad and it was bursting with flavor. Came here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch with friends. Service was pretty good (also very friendly) and draft list is fine. However, I was actually somewhat shocked when our food came out. I got the fried chicken club and it was 14.99 with the option to upgrade your side for 2 dollars. Y'all- this sandwich came out with one SMALL chicken tender and a piece of candied bacon on a small bun. I upgraded to fries and the fries were a very small portion as well. Had lunch with a friend who was visiting from out of town. Wings were some of the best I've ever had. Our server recommended to quick fry before they cooked them the rest of the way. Today we took a drive and ended up at the grainery restaurant in plain city, based on a recommendation. I ordered smoked wings with fries, brisket baked beans. My wife got brisket tacos with a side salad. Oh and I ordered some cornbread for us to share. The wings were dry rubbed with a bit of spice. They offered two types of sauce on the table but chose not to use them. The wings had great smoky flavor and the meat fell off the bone. The Brisket baked beans were really good, a bit sweet but very Tasty. The fries were coated they were fine, but nothing special. My wife said the Brisket tacos were good but they didn't have any sour cream or slaw, they came with a corn pico and cheese. But offered Taco Bell type sauce packets which was disappointing, it's a shame to not offer a good sauce with good tacos. Her salad was nice size with good amount of toppings and she chose warm bacon dressing and she liked it. Cornbread was sweet and moist, we liked it . We finished the meal with a slice of Buckeye peanut butter pie it was store bought but good. Would be great if they would have like a cobbler or something like that. First time here with friends who had been there before us and recommended it. The place is a cool atmosphere and I guess it's bigger than the last time our friends had been there. We had six in our party and three of our people's food came out very quickly but probably 10-15 minutes before the others did. Food was okay, not great, but I would go again. My husband ordered the Ranch Water from the bar, his first and second drinks were not the same and the same bartender made both drinks. Lacking consistency from the bar and our waitress could have had a little more personality IMO. read more

Grainery is great addition to the Plain City. Their choices of draft beers is great and compliments the food served. This spacious bar/restaurant is great for gathering, family or friends. Looking for a different place to eat on a beautiful Fall afternoon. We had heard this place had opened up so drove down from Indian Lake to give it a try. First, Plain City downtown is the cutest. Looks like they are focusing on rejuvenating the beautiful, old buildings. Second, the front, opened garage doors made a beautiful place to enjoy the weather but stay out of the sun. Our Bloody Mary was simple and very tasty. We asked for spicy and spicy we got. We tried the smoked wings as an appetizer. They were very good. Being smoked, the skin is not crispy but they had great smoke flavor. There are two BBQ sauces offered, a sweet and a tangy. I'm usually a tangy/spicy gal all the way, but their sweet BBQ had an amazing smokey back-end and I found myself using it more. The brisket with beans and cornbread.... all three items were superb. The beans have jalapeños cooked with them and the cornbread was sweet and moist; we'd eat a whole tray.... especially if they through in some diced jalapeños (hint, hint). We also got the loaded potato. The size was deceiving; I've had much bigger potatoes. But in the end, I couldn't clean my plate. All the toppings: smoked pork, cheese, mac n cheese, jalapeños, sour cream..... it was so very good and so filling. Very neat and clean lil place. Good service and tasty food. Our son has food allergies and we understand that can be hard for restaurants to deal with so we try to be chill about it. We asked the waitress if there was anything on the sides menu that didn't have eggs or dairy, and she just said "yeah I have no idea" and that was it. No attempts to assist or figure it out for us, we were on our own I guess. She refilled our drinks once the whole stay as well, and we didn't see her besides that. Place has a few TV up front by the door, and a large dinner area near the back of the house. Very trendy tables, seating and decor. Place was very clean, well light and lots of natural light. Staff was super friendly and very helpful. Was able to answer all questions we had. My partner and I got the BBQ sampler platter- way more meats then two men needed, but we sauced them up with the house made BBQ sauce and went to town. Didn't leave any meat behind, it was that good. No fancy words needed. Partner got a side of Mac & Cheese. Said it was ok. But the dude loves Kraft Mac & Cheese so take that for what it's worth. Partners in crime with us (who hate trying new places) were nervous at first but then relaxed after the atmosphere of the place set it. One got the Pulled Pork sandwich - a clean plate says to me it was good. The other guest ordered a dinner salad with smoked chicken. This is a small place located in downtown plain city. It was not crowded at the tables But the bar was hopping with people watching the basketball game. I was disappointed they didn't offer flights but they did have signature cocktails and local Brews from nearby breweries. My beer was a strawberry daiquiri beer. It was refreshing but sorta pricey at 6.00 each. My beef brisket sandwich was good and the sauces on the table were very good. We had smoked wings and I think they were delicious! Plain city has a gem in the making! We were looking for someplace different to eat and the reviews gave pretty good marks. I had the house salad with pulled pork while my spouse had the brisket sandwich, baked beans and fries. My salad was big enough that I only ate half. It was fresh and crispy with the perfect amount of pulled pork. The brisket was a little on the dry side and was definitely the burnt ends on the underside of the sandwich. The baked beans and fries were great! The little bit of jalapeños in the baked beans was a fantastic change with the perfect amount of zing. The shiner bock on tap was a really nice surprise! The absolute best barbecue in Plain City, no, Madison County. Prove me wrong. It was our 1st time in the Grainery and we tried the sampler, a decent serving of; pork, chicken, brisket, and ribs and even though it wasn't offered, we had a sampler of the specialty sides; cole slaw, baked beans, corn bread, and mac-n-cheese. All of the meats were excellent with 2 types of BBQ sauce at the table, a sweet sauce (think Sweet Baby Rays) and a tangy sauce that had a little kick. The specialty sides were all good but the corn bread and cole slaw were amazing. 8 selections on tap ranging from stout to IPA. If you like local brews, you will find something for your palate. Service was great, attentive but not overbearing. Beers arrived at the table before I could take off my coat and our order arrived shortly after. Several, prominent TVs and a juke box for when conversation lags. Can I give more than 5 stars? P.S. Left over meats with a couple of eggs makes a fantastic breakfast burrito. read more

Decided to take a drive out to Plain City to check this place out. My server was Ruk. She was great. Ordered the Choose 4 meats, got the Brisket, Pork, Chicken and Barbacoa. For sides I got the 4 sides special. There was Bacon Ranch Potato Salad, Mac-N-Cheese, Coleslaw and Brisket Baked Beans. As far as the meats, they all had a nice smoky flavor and were moist. Yummmy!! On to the sides. The chef did some very out of the ordinary things. The potato salad was partially cooked potatoes that had a blend of ranch dressing, mustard and cheese. Very light tasting. The mac n cheese had a very light cheese with spiral noodles. The coleslaw was finely chopped vegetables and a sweet dressing with a bite to it. Then there were the baked beans which had a nice thicker sauce to it and then the chef added some sliced jalapenos to it for some bite. Now on to atmosphere, this place is rocking. Can only give this place one star because we could not stay. Walking up to the restaurant the noise, music was unbearably loud. Once we were in the door, it was even louder. (no band). Have eaten in many places all over the country and never been in a place that played music this loud. Seems like there should be an ordinance on sound. I like this place, good spot for food and drink with solid selection. Currently extended space provides plenty of sitting. Sometimes it's hard to get bartenders attention and the smoked food is reheated not to full temperature having cold spots and taste like it has been sitting to long time without refrigeration. I never got sick, but just not even tasting experience every time. Wings are always good, just please ask for well done. Overall recommend place! read more

Went to the grainery for dinner. Did not know and wasn't told part of our meal was being made by pioneer pizza. I got my food which was ultimately good 15 minutes before my husband's food came out from pioneer pizza. Made the whole experience bad. I waited to eat for him so my meal was now cold, and since I had food it made the wait for his seem like an eternity! The waitress was nice and polite but should have mentioned that his food was being made by pioneer pizza and they had a long delay. Prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was casual and we were able to talk without yelling like most open spaced restaurants. We will go again but will certainly ask which restaurant is making the food and order both meals from the same restaurant. read more

We grabbed some pick-up here on our way out to a park a few weeks back and it was very tasty! We both got the bbq on a baked potato and the potato was perfect, not mushy like I would have expected it might be under all the bbq and toppings. It was great, the bbq was tasty, the toppings were good. We were both very impressed. When we went to pick it up, I stood inside the door, a waitress said "you can be seated wherever" to which I told her I was here for a pickup order. She was just like oh and then carried on jumping from table to table taking orders without saying ok it'll be just a minute and we'll bring it out to you or anything to update me. Just carried on as if I wasn't there. Finally the bartender went to the back and grabbed my order and brought it out to me. Got a takeout last night, but looked like a fun place to hang out and I was impressed with the draft menu! The online ordering is super slick. We thought the BBQ (pulled pork and brisket) were probably only close second to City BBQ in the area, well above average. Their sauces were equally good. I would make a couple tweaks: the coleslaw we believe has horseradish in it. Definitely a unique taste but not for everyone, I would note that. Also on the carryout menu it lists "BRP Salad" - we couldn't figure out what that was until looking at the main menu - Bacon Ranch Potato. The side salad was not just a thoughtless iceberg affair, rather it had mixed greens with cranberries etc. - very nice. read more

My husband and I visited this restaurant for the first time this past weekend for lunch. It has an attractive urban decor, but I would have preferred a few more normal height tables & chairs inside (as opposed to the high pub-style tables)--just a personal preference. We walked through the outside patio on the way in and it's very attractive. My husband and I shared the Grainery Sampler platter that comes with a choice of four meats. We had the chicken, brisket, barbacoa, and pork. All were moist and tender and cooked perfectly. We did not use any of the sauces because we are on a keto diet. They meats did come seasoned, however, so I can comment on those. The chicken was seasoned perfectly and was delicious. The brisket and barbacoa were also both nicely seasoned. The pork was not. It was on the spicy side, with would have been fine, but it was extremely salty. My hunch is they used a purchased blackened seasoning spice mix that includes salt (probably the main ingredient). If that is the case, they would have done far better to have made their own blackened seasoning mix without salt. Next visit, I'll have to ask if getting a different seasoning is possible. I didn't notice the seasonings mentioned on the menu. I do appreciate that the sauces are provided in squeeze bottles on the tables, but I would love if they would add some sugar-free options such as the G Hughes brand sauces. I definitely would have given 5 stars if that was an option (and if there was a better seasoning on the pork). My husband and I each had side salads. There was nothing out of the ordinary about the salads, but the ingredients were fresh. Nothing less than expected. Our server was very friendly and helpful. Five starts to her. read more

I ordered a bunch of take-out to last a few days. What I got were skimpy portions (compared to what was promised on the menu) and missing some items. The food was "meh" at best, to be perfectly honest. On the receipt they have a survey that they ask how everything was, and request that you add a phone number if you want a manager to contact you back. In TOTAL good faith, I put everything down that was wrong and I have pictures to show. However, I was never contacted back. It was like crickets...that was all I heard.
