UPDATE: We went for lunch yesterday Friday April, 17. This time we dined in as opposed to taking it home. What a beautiful restaurant with classy, casual chic decor. Our server was friendly and very professional. My husband ordered the the jack burger and I ordered the fried fish sandwich. The haddock was perfectly cooked and the batter was light and crispy. I quickly removed the slaw and put it on the side to preserve the crispy texture. The fish sandwich was a hit! My husband had the jack burger and he really enjoyed it. He particularly raved about the quality of the grind on the beef which was delicate with no gnarled pieces. He would have liked a little more of the sauce that was on the burger so he will order an extra side of it next time :) We both had fries with our order and they were good. All in all we are very happy that we tried again and dined in- what a treat! read more

Beautiful interior (well done, Helen Reed, as usual), but all the two-tops are arranged in our least-favorite configuration: lined up nearly shoulder-to-shoulder along long benches (one along the front window, one in the middle of the dining room) such that you're privy to conversations on both side of you, no matter how you try to tune them out. I mean, I'm friendly, but I'm not there for a community dining experience. Next time, we'll insist on a four top even if we're just two - they won't love the idea of leaving two seats empty, but it'll be that or nothing for us. As far as food and drink, we'll give them a C. The pasta dish was amazing and got five stars. The Black Manhattan was enlightening and very drinkable. The burger was terrific for the first few bites but is in that category that quickly dissolves into a mushy mess halfway through. It probably wasn't helped by the pair of fried onion rings stacked under the top bun that literally added three inches to the height of the sandwich. (Why do some chefs like to make their burgers a mile high when the human mouth can't possibly accommodate them?) This forces the diner to either strip out the onion rings or smash the whole thing down to edible dimensions, hastening the mushy breakdown. Ugh. (A minor irritation: I asked the waiter for a lager to compliment the burger - any lager, I wasn't particular - and instead was delivered a Legend Brown Ale. A fine libation, just not what I asked for.) Worst, however, was the crab dip we started with. It didn't taste bad, per se ... it literally had no flavor whatsoever. The wonton chips, bland as they were, still overpowered whatever flavor the dip may have brought, and their oiliness didn't add to the experience. Wouldn't order them again, to say the least. All that said, our first experience was enough to bring us back for a second visit (just not for the burger or crab dip.) I hear good things about the trout! read more

I wanted to try for awhile. Decided to go for my husband's birthday. The ambiance has all the charm of Panera. Seating is very close together. I had the crab cakes that was served like with remoulade sauce, heavy on horse radish that totally overpowered the delicate crab cake. He had the ribs, also served luke warm with warm coleslaw. We have been twice since they opened and have really enjoyed everything we've tried! The cocktails are really tasty and not to mention beautiful. I tried the chicken pesto pasta on our servers recommendation and it was delish. My husband had the trout - I'm not usually a big fish person but the sauce on it was so yummy that I really liked the bite I stole. When we went in for happy hour, we got the crab dip and it was awesome too. Our servers were awesome and our food and drinks came out super quickly. We can't wait to go back in and try more things. First time visiting after hearing great things, but overall it was disappointing. The cocktails were excellent, and the hot crab dip appetizer was very good. Unfortunately, service missed the mark--we had to remind our server about the shrimp appetizer, which didn't arrive until just minutes before our entrées. As for the mains, the baby back ribs had good flavor but were very dry. Both my salmon and my friend's salmon tasted noticeably fishy, which was a letdown. The Brussels sprouts portion was extremely small--basically one shaved sprout. On a positive note, the beef bourguignon was well done. Dined at Granite Grill in Stony Point and really enjoyed the experience. The food was delicious. We had the hush puppies, trout, and Cajun pasta, and everything was well prepared and full of flavor. Service was solid and the atmosphere made it a great spot for a relaxed meal. Definitely a place I'd visit again when in the area. read more

Granite Grill is in the Tazza Kitchen group and they just seem to be able to hire good humans. Every encounter is kind and attentive. The food really is amazing - we've worked our way through appetizers and entrees and enjoyed every dish. Cocktails are well made and the bar staff effortlessly keeps everyone topped up. Patio can be surprisingly noisy as tables fill up (maybe just the design - acoustics) but it's very pleasant. read more

1st time trying this new restaurant and had a great experience. Ate at the bar and loved the vibe (seats were super comfortable). Nick the bartender was professional, friendly and attentive. Wine was reasonably priced. Shared the crispy chili shrimp as an appetizer and it was delicious! Perfectly cooked with great flavors. I had the interestingly described ribbons of eggplant parmesan It was wonderful. The accompanying sauce was tremendous. This place will certainly get return visits from us. Great food. Slightly noisy but the bar and the back room are very good. Egg plan is great if you like it, steak was surprisingly good also.

Prices are hefty, similar to Mosiac across the river and menu is much smaller . I don't mind a smaller menu except I like to eat lighter in evening. Fried chicken sandwich , two burger selections but they were 'double burgers' , some kind of uninteresting salads . I had the roasted chicken and yes it did take longer . It was a small bird I guess cause not a lot of meat on leg , wing and idk, that might have been a thigh. I'd have appreciated breast meat too. The skin was on . It was swimming in whipped potatoes and gravy which was good but.... I wish I'd had it plain. For one thing my knife kept slipping into the oval plate so I was dealing with gravy all over the handle. Partner got flank steak, no complaints , it was priced high! Maybe 35? 23.50 for chicken. Daughter got chicken pasta . It was tasty too. Came with not hot bread. We got the hush puppies... as an app. They were perfect. Atmosphere was cozy. We walked in at 5 and they said they could seat us in bar area if we could be through by 6:45 as they gad a reservation l. I appreciated that esp since we are fast eaters . However, with the chicken taking longer ( that's mentioned on the menu) , we finished at 6.39 and got up and 6:42, lol. I'd go back. But I wish they had a few less expensive entrees . There were alot of older persons at the bar for happy hour . They all cleared out when it was over. Prob regulars from the SOUTHSide (IYKYK) Susan, I don't see a place to respond but I did not feel rushed at all. Food was mostly amazing. We started with the warm crab dip and it needs some more seasoning, but was pretty good. Our entrees were both fabulous and I am already looking forward to my leftovers. The service started off great with a friendly and very nice server, but towards the end it was difficult to get their attention and several of their tables seemed to be waiting as well. read more

Great food, great service, great ambiance. My husband & I split the tuna tartare - SO good. I had the hanger steak w/ fries; the steak was a PERFECT medium. I had the Black Manhattan - beautifully colored & composed. I also had a very nice glass of the Ultraviolet Cabernet Sauvignon. Finally, my husband "helped" me with a serving of the sticky toffee pudding: YUMMY. The food was great as was the ambiance. What really made it was the service. Our bartender was friendly, but not too, & was good at both making drinks and making conversation. We look forward to going back. read more

From our service to the atmosphere to the food, The Granite Grill has it all. Cheryl, our server, was friendly, engaging and fun. The food, mine was Scottish Salmon, my companions had Baby Back Ribs and Pesto Chicken Pasta, was delicious and prepared to order. Cheryl told us to try the Toffee Pudding for dessert, and it was delicious. We weren't rushed, had full beverage glasses and enjoyed having dinner in the private dining room. This place became my wife and I's favorite restaurant in RVA immediately. We actually stumbled in on grand opening and got sat even without reservations which was awesome. Our server was so kind and the vibe is so cool it's like modern speakeasy in the best way possible. The food is truly spectacular and so are the cocktails everything about this place is awesome and we have already gone another time to see if they were consistent and the second dinner was even better than the first . If you read this please try the Chicken aujus it's to die for and the steak is great as well . Everything there is awesome . My first experience at Granite Grill in Bon Air was disappointing. I ordered the Granite burger with a side salad. The salad was drenched in salad dressing and wilted. The burger was greasy. I had to remove the bottom bun because it was soggy. It tasted salty to me. Certainly not worth $21.00. read more

I would go for the crab 7 nights a week. We have high expectations when it comes to crab dip. Prior to last night it was Harpoon Larry's in Hampton number 1 and Hard Shell in Midlothian. Now Granite Grill is the best ever. We had rainbow trout which was excellent but the ribs I ordered were so hard that my fork literally bounced to the floor when I tried a bite. I returned the meal to the kitchen and while they offered a replacement, my husband had finished his meal and I didn't want to wait for another. I expected an offer for a refund which never came. While I could have made a scene at the restaurant, I didn't want to hamper the experience of others. In a restaurant of this caliber there is an expectation of exemplary customer service. My dining experiences have been Ruth's Chris, The Tobacco Company, Bookbinders, Perry's s and I recognize good customer service when I see it. You dropped the ball here. I will think hard and long before returning or recommending The Granite Grill. read more

Great addition to the neighborhood. The atmosphere was warm and cozy. It was packed but never too loud to hear the people at our table. The ribeye was exceptional. Very classic sides and presentation. We ordered crab dip and focaccia for apps and both hit the spot. The trout was cooked to perfection. Would recommend adding a side to this as it's just the fish filet and some green beans.
