The Grape Room gives me a hole-in-the-wall-that-everyone-that's-there-is-super-cool vibes. Everyone is so nice, fast, and willing to help with directions! We saw a friends band and it got packed & sweaty in the GP (so fun) a perfect size & environment to drink some beers and make some friends. All the bands were really good and they had a cool mural which made the vibes that much more cool. The drinks were great and the ambiance is nice if you like music, pool, entertainment, the bar scene, etc. There was only one nice staff member upstairs tending bar, she was truly sweet and held a conversation. The rest were stuck up and acted like you were wasting their time. A big turn off. Plus it always sucks when you have to pay for the pool table. I've been to the Grape room a few times, while strolling on Main Street. Each time I've been, I did enjoy myself. Saturday evenings, they play dance music where you can shake it fast or chill at the bar and relax. For any local artist/musicians in the Manay area, they have Open Mic on Monday nights at 7pm. They have a pretty good sound system and a nice crowd. My last visit, they were looking to grow that crowd; both performers and listeners. The bartenders are nice, drinks are good and the prices are reasonable. read more

When I went there yesterday night with some friends, the bouncer who was WHITE allowed all of my white friends in for free and without checking ID but told me (I'm Asian) and my one Hispanic friend to show ID and tried to charge us $10. Yeah so my friend and I went to the grape room last night got there at roughly 11:30 (just checked my phone and I have an "we're outside" text I sent my friend) cus we were at a different show prior. As soon as we walk in we're greeted by a curly haired bro who tells us it's $10 cover charge and where the atm is. So we go all the way to the back of the place to take money out to pay the bro and literally seconds after this is done I'd say about 40 people (mostly SJU hockey players, bros friends?) walk in for free. So I go over to bro and ask him what this it about and he said that it's free after 11:30. Hmmm my "were outside" text was at 11:28 so by the time we walked in went in the atm and pulled money out to pay it's was past the time. That doesn't seem very fair. Ive never been to the grape room before but that was sheisty and left a real bad taste in my mouth so I don't think I will be back. I don't ever leave reviews for places either but idk how the fuck would you feel if this happened to you? Glad I spend 10 dollars in fees to pull out $20 to stand behind a shit ton of farting hockey bros. you guys made an extra $20 dollars last night but you could have made more in the future with better business practices. My friend and I love live music and go to shows all the time. I don't wanna go to a venue that's sheisty and trying to pull one over on me. Boooo. Dick move. This place is an odd one. I've been here five or so times over the year and a half I have lived in Manayunk. And despite the three stars it can be a good time. The acoustics are surprisingly good, and the bands, while mostly young jam-bands, are entertaining and worth the cover, even if you likely aren't likely to find your next fave band here (if that makes sense). That said, why this is a three star, rather then a four or five star, review is that it definitely feels like there are certain regulars that kinda become a clique of sorts. Its the type of bar where everyone seems to know everyone else, and that makes it seems unwelcoming if you, like me, are neither a regular nor really on the same level as regulars. Always sucks when the bartender/owner (generally one and the same) is spending his time chatting with his buddies in one corner of the bar while you are waiting, empty drink in hand, for a new beer. That said, I probably will be back, and I do encourage you to go. Just be prepared that unlike most bars in the main st area, this is a neighborhood bar and operates like one. read more

Awesome punk rock musical guests on rotation all night, and other nights stand up comedy. I have not attended any comedy shows so I cannot comment on that, but I do enjoy the bands that come through. The philly special here is a shot and a beer for $5, definitely worth it to get your night started. The field in my profile that notes: "Find me in: Manayunk" is completely accurate most of the time: I spend most weekend nights (and a few ill-advised weekday nights) experiencing the panoply of offerings in the 'Yunk. So you can take my word for it when I tell you that The Grape Room is one of the coolest places to hang out in the area. In essence, the Grape is a rock club and bar, similar to what the Khyber used to be. It's a very low-key atmosphere, but boasts a great selection of local craft brews, and a simple but delicious food menu. You can always see awesome musical acts here, playing originals and very few covers (if any). I love that they support local musicians in an era when many venues rely on iPods for their musical ambiance. Also, Scooter, the owner, is one of the nicest people I have ever met. I'm having my 30th bday party in the awesome second floor space, and he's been amazing to work with. He gave me a full tour and was totally flexible about everything we wanted to do with the party. So definitely come out and support local music, local breweries, and an amazing local entrepreneur. read more

Located right off of Main Street (in what used to be 105 Social) The Grape Room provides a place for musicians and their fans to come together and have an evening of excellent music, great beer, stage diving and moshing....well maybe not the later two items but who knows!? Meg and Zil own and operate The Cracked Bell Catering Co. which runs out of the kitchen and provides all of the delicious noshies and entrees on the menu. They also cater all of the private parties that are booked at the Grape. The food is sooooooo yummy and they provide plenty of vegan/ vegetarian options. Find Scooter, he is the owner and is totally cool to chill with.....whether you find him sitting at the bar or carrying in equipment for the band set up he is always around and up for some conversation....super nice, super rock savvy, and all around good people. Such a shame . Excellent lighting , positive vibe cool music and then BOOM ... The two male bartenders working the Saturday before Labor Day fully convinced us not to spend our money at the place . They seemed annoyed , standoffish and made us feel uncomfortable with their attitudes . The only thing that salvaged our night was the female bartender . I wanted to personally let the owner know that myself and my buddies had alot of money to spend tonight . I visited this place about an hour before closing time on a Saturday night. Somehow we got in without a cover (probably because it was pretty near closing time). We had already had enough to drink, so we didn't order anything. From the prices posted on the wall, it looked reasonable and had some worthwhile brews. However, we walked into the Grape Room because we heard what was clearly very live music emanating onto the street. The band there was rocking the (miniscule) stage and we caught the last two songs before the set ended (not including the encore). The crowd was rather small and older than the college people that usually frequent Manayunk. Seemed to me a great place to avoid that craziness that can ensue when in Manayunk on the weekends. To put it shortly, GREAT music and hipster feel. We'll be stopping by this place next time we're in Manayunk to catch unknown bands playing some great rock sets. read more

Stumbled in on Vacation (post-work trip still counts right?) when we heard the music from the outside. When asked for cover, we said we were just grabbing a drink and waved in. I was pleasantly surprised by a pretty eclectic crowd and some creative live music. Descent selection of brews and very nicely priced I might add. I spent this past weekend at the Grape Room for a "private" event, and while I have lots of good things to say about the place, the word private is in quotes on purpose. First and foremost, the sound in this place is MUCH better than it seems like it would be. For a small, oddly shaped room, they've done something right. Everything from the singer/songwriter with a guitar upstairs to the full band downstairs sounded fantastic except for one little corner by the door. Which is not an easy feat - I've been in concert halls that had worse sound. The bar staff is professional, although not always super quick, and the drink prices are right. They don't have food, but they have no problem with you bringing your own. The bathrooms are kept clean. They have a good beer selection. They seem to be super friendly to independent and local music, which is always a good thing. However, my gripe is with the whole private event thing. Normally, you go to a private event at a bar and you expect that the bar is closed except for that event. Not so at the Grape Room. Apparently its a great place to be a regular, because no matter what's going on, and no matter how much anyone else paid to get in for said private event, if you're a regular, you're getting in for nothing more than the normal cover. (And yes, I discussed all of this with the owner. He got a little defensive about letting in his regulars, and he seemed to understand my point of view. But I don't see it changing. And yes, I will be voicing this gripe with the folks on the event side as well. So if/when the owner sees this, it won't be the first time he's hearing it.) Great place to go listen to music, have a few drinks, and have a good time. If not for the minor irritation of our private event ending up not so private, this would have been a five star review - there are FAR too few bars around that will cater to musicians the way this one seems to - open mic nights, local bands, nationally touring independent acts, and let's be honest - the fact that they were willing to host the event that they hosted this weekend says a lot about their attitude and their view on music. But that one little thing just bothered me enough that I felt the need to post about it and knock a star off the review. read more

Wandered in here for a drink or two after having a bite on Main Street. I used to come here in my 20s for some great live music - always a great band. I would say nothing has changed in that regard. There was a great cover band on and 3 more on deck, both original and cover, as I discovered. Standing room only and some bar seats but everywhere is a great view as this is a pretty intimate space. This place was casual and unpretentious which is kinda rare for that 'hood. People were friendly and welcoming. There were domestic and imported beers on tap - but I had some wine that was decent. This place is great! I've been looking for a place this for a while. There are not too many bars that have live music and the upstairs lounge type bar is an added bonus. Speaking of the upstairs lounge, I'm not sure if the DJ spinning old school rap and hip hop is a regular thing, but it should be. Went here on a weekday night for some beers when some bands were playing. Pretty sweet atmosphere downstairs. Not too crowded. Upstairs (they have a pool table) was empty, so that was nice to get away for a second and play some pool. The bartender was really cool, she let my buddy charge his phone inside the bar area (we were in charge of reminding him to get it before he left!) The only weird part was at around 11? it switched from nerdy white kids on stage playing green day and pop rock to a group of guys rapping and jumping around the stage. It's all good, but the change in atmosphere was drastic, so be ready for it. read more

I was walking around Main Street a few weeks ago just trying to get my head street. It's been a tough few weeks. My ex-wife Cynthia and I finalized our divorce. After 14-years, it just ended. I realize now I put too much of my time into being an actuary as a way to overcome my fears of failing as a father figure. Turns out I was right, and now I can only see my twin sons Bradley and Bryan once a month. After I was walking around, I heard some great music coming from this place, which is off the main drag a few storefronts. The crowd was a bit young (as Main Street can be) but I still paid the $7 cover. When there, I got to see a few great local music groups in action. My favorite was Wax McGruff, who seemed like something my kids might like (Imagine Dragons). When I was there, I felt a top on my shoulder. It was Tonya, whom I met at Han Dynasty a few weeks ago after setting up a date via an online dating service (OK Cupid). I hadn't been in touch because I got busy with work due to a new slew of parking garages I had to provide valuation models for, as well as probably my fear of commitment. So she liked Wax McGruff a lot, too. We sat next to each other silently watching the band play. Afterwards, she asked me out for later in the week. I was taken aback a bit, because she served 18-months in jail for voter fraud (pressured by her boss, had to plead) but I said yes. So who knows? I'm trying to not commit to anything, but that's always been my problem. I would recommend Grape Street Pub to anyone in Philadelphia who likes cool, independent, local jam bands and is trying to find themselves after losing their identity to their career and wants a fresh start with life. read more

I am convinced that The Grape Room is one the the great hidden gems of Manayunk. Located just off of the main drag, it does little for advertising itself other than putting out the list of who's playing. Really, that' all it really ought to. The Grape Room is gloriously free of pretense and top 40 playlists. Walls are covered with posters of previous shows. Drinks are cheap, with the ever present "Philly Special" of a shot of whisky and a bottle of Lionshead. But the real main attraction is the music. I don't know the last time I knew of a place where people really rocked out. Bands are often of variable quality but on weekends a $5 cover will get you three bands jamming on a tiny stage. It's a chill scene and it's great to listen to some music and pick out a few bands and new songs to listen to. read more

It was like the third night the place was open when I went so they had some kinks to work out but it was fun. The bands were good, alright prices on alcohol, but a killer location right off of Main in Manayunk. Will probably go back assuming I know one of the bands playing. Only weird thing was people kept walking through the bar to go to an apartment upstairs for a party. Made the party look better than the bar. read more

I went here to see a friend's band play Friday night and had a great time. $7 cover, drink prices reasonable. bartenders were super cool--even let my friend charge her phone when it died. all of the bands that played were great and in between sets, it wasnt too loud to have a convo with the people around you. bathrooms were surprisingly clean. they have a second floor, but I didnt venture up there, saving that for next time. the place was pretty full, but not overwhelming packed to the point where you cant enjoy yourself. parking is a pain in the ass because it's manayunk, but I will definitely put up with that again to hang out at such a cool place! read more

I've been to the Grape Room a few times- you can't really beat live music with no cover (unless you are there to specifically support a band- then it's $5), reasonably priced drinks, and room to move around, which can be rare in Manayunk on a weekend night. The bands that play here are from all genres, so you never really know what you've going to get when you show up. The guys at the door always draw a smiley face on your hand when you enter- one of my favorite parts :) read more

There's an open floor space where people just stand around to watch the bands but I feel like it would be better if there were seats because I really don't see people dancing. read more

Great local music venue that I've had the pleasure of playing at on multiple occasions. Solid bar with good taps. Sound quality is good, but not great. Too bad they don't have food.
