I am extremely pleased! 1- their prices are the best!! I spend a few days shopping around and they are the best hands down. 2- their customer service is awesome! They are very polite and they are very helpful. 3- the driver... he was a very good guys, he was very efficient and he was very knowledgeable. The driver also, took the time to clean his truck off before leaving so that nothing blew off of the truck from what was left over from our pallets of sod like rocks, dirt and so on and he put all of the debris in the woods. He was very respectful and just all around a really great guy. I wish I would have gotten his name but all I know is he's African American and a really great person. Placed my order online. The website was very helpful and descriptive in helping me select which type of grass I wanted for the area I was installing it. Pricing was very reasonable. Placed my order and chose ASAP as delivery option. I had my receipt emailed and was contacted a few days later via text letting me know when they would be delivering. They had my healthy fresh Zoysia Palisades grass within four days delivered to my driveway. Driver was very professional and communicative. He even texted me the night before asking exactly where I wanted it placed. Driver was on time as projected for early 6 am delivery. A pallet buggy was used to come into my housing area instead of trying to maneuver a giant semi through which I thought was very handy. The grass outlet definitely gets my five star rating overall very pleasant experience! Will be using them again to finish the rest of the yard. Very happy overall. We used them to purchase and install the sod. I thought the process was pretty seemless. Happy with the price of both the sod and the install service. A couple of things to know that you need to have sorted beforehand, as they provide grass and will then put it down on your yard (if you purchase the installation): 1) you need to have your irrigation marked -- they likely will do that for you but you should have that set 2) if you need any grading of your yard, you'll likely need to either discuss that ahead of time or get someone else to do it -- they scraped the yard clean very quickly, but their pricing doesn't factor in changes to the slope, etc. Crew worked hard and were very polite -- good guys. read more

TGO Installations (the part of The Grass Outlet that installs the grass for you) was great... I asked them to quote moving some landscaping rock out of the way so the new sod could replace it, and Mike was happy to add that to the quote at what I considered a fair price. The installers were awesome. Dejon (I hope I am spelling your name right) was very customer-service oriented and seems to enjoy his job. Both the men that worked on the lawn did so quickly and to our exact requests... We had 4 pallets installed in about 1/2 day's time. This included the above noted rocks being moved, tearing up the old dead grass, laying new soil and then the sod on top. No problems at all. This was the best experience I've ever had ordering sod, hands down. Half of our back yard was damaged due to take-all root rot and we needed two pallets after tilling up the damage. Ordering on the website was straightforward like you'd expect from online ordering. The grass was delivered exactly in the window promised. The best part of all: Every single piece of sod was pretty much perfect - I don't think I've ever had two pallets where every piece was usable. I had only one - ONE! - piece of sod that was bad, which is amazing. In comparison, the last time we had sod delivered from another place, about 20% was in poor shape. read more

Grass is of poor quality if purchased in the hotter months. Do not believe what they say regardless of their reassurance. I received my pallet of Bermuda last summer and the soil was like dried crumbs. The grass which they claim is resilient grew into mostly weeds and bare spots no matter how much weeding seeding and watering you do. I have videos but yelp does not support videos. I don't know about their product in The cooler months but they have no business selling what they know to be garbage grass in August. read more

It was my first time using the grass outlet, I ordered two pallets of Palmetto St.Augustine online last Wednesday. I had it delivered by 11am on Saturday. This was well within the promised window.I began laying the grass and about half way through the first pallet I had 17-20 squares that had clover weed in them. I was able to pull some of it out, but I had several that the entire square was clover, so I couldn't use them. Luckily I was able to get away with what I did have and those squares ended up being extra. It was just disappointing to pay for a full pallet of Palmetto and it have 20 or so unusable clover ridden squares. Other than that the ordering process was simple, and the delivery was on time as expected. The price is reasonable for the type of grass, and the remainder of the grass seemed fairly healthy. read more

This review is for those thinking about ordering grass for a do-it-yourself project. We dug up our front walkway and needed some replacement St. Augustine. I looked at several companies online, and the Grass Outlet's website was definitely most user friendly and informative -- on top of that, they had the best prices! If I didn't already have a healthy lawn of mostly St. Augustine, I would have had other more drought-tolerant Zoysia and Bermuda varieties that were reasonably priced. The minimum order was one pallet, and thanks to their handy sod calculator I knew I only needed .28 of a pallet. I couldn't find anyone else online who would also deliver less than a pallet, so we just placed the order for Raleigh St. Augustine. I got an email confirmation of sale immediately; delivery guy called at 8:30 am on the scheduled delivery date to say he was outside with my order. The last time I installed sod I ordered a pallet from a big box. What was delivered was yellow and kind of slimy, but it eventually greened up with daily watering for about a week. What arrived from Grass Outlet was obviously freshly cut because it was not dried out and it was GREEN. It happened to be raining when we installed the sod and rained later that night, but barely 6 days later the lines between old and new turf are filling in and we're feeling pretty good about ourselves for making our lawn look 1000% better. read more

Take copious notes and evidence of how you prepared the yard for installation. If they aren't responsible for the dirt, grass, installation, and you don't have an irrigation system then they most likely will not resolve any quality issues. WEEDS. The Story: We just bought a new home where the builder provided a sodded Zoysia Grass front lawn. Thinking that we would get better quality at a better price elsewhere, I began to shop around. I looked on Yelp and the reviews for The Grass Outlet were positive. I called them and a few other places and by far got the best initial response and information from The Grass Outlet. Feeling very good about this company I went ahead and schedule for sod to be delivered and installed in the backyard. The delivered grass was not in great shape, but also didn't look like it was at the edge of death either. All-in-all I would give the initial quality of grass a 3/5. The installation was very quick and the install crew was very pleasant. They worked hard and got the grass installed fairly rapidly. My only gripe was that they actually asked me to give them a positive review on Yelp. However, I had been happy enough to this point and was planning on it anyway. 4/5 on delivery and install time. The grass was installed on 07/01/2013. Two weeks later, after watering as well as possible under city water restrictions (plus a little more), we noticed that there were a significant amount, and variety, of weeds in the grass. This is where I made my mistake. Instead of contacting them immediately and complaining I decided to try and fix it on my own. Confession: We were in the middle of moving and probably should have noticed the infested grass sooner. There was just so many other things to do. I purchased about $100 worth of weed-killer which all instructed that it could take up to three treatments to see results. After three weeks of treatment the problem wasn't going away, the weeds were winning. Note: My front yard from the builder was weed-free and looking gorgeous! I contacted Mike Piwonka via a phone call on 08/15/2013. He told me to send him a picture of the yard along with invoice number and he would send someone out to spray. Good start! That day I got an email back informing me that "any garden store such as Lowe's, Home Depot, or Wal-Mart will have weed applications," and that my yard needs to be "chemically treated asap." He also suggested that they could have done more if they heard something from me sooner. I told him I doubt it was the dirt, as it had been delivered within 2 days of installing their sod. In addition the front yard was having zero problems (the builder's sod). We had an email exchange that ended on 08/25/2013. He basically said that it was my fault for not contacting them sooner. He also blamed the builder's soil, lack of irrigation, basically anything aside from the farm that he bought the grass from. I asked for the installation money back ($250) as my wife and I had to spend about 15-20 hours pulling weeds. It was not granted. If there had been any effort to resolve the issue or satisfy their customer they would have gotten a 4 star review. Caveat emptor! read more

Mike and his staff at the Grass Outlet were great to deal with. I previously bought sod from King Ranch and it was browned out and FILLED with nutsedge weeds (Had I known how bad the weed issue was going to be, I would have just burned their sod instead of installing it... seriously). I contacted Grass Outlet to get 14 pallets of Zoysia mini-rolls. Mini rolls aren't something they cut themselves so they sourced another supplier for me and acted as the middle man. When the pallets of sod arrived from the other supplier, they were regular squares and not mini rolls and the Zoysia that arrived was in bad condition. I went ahead with my sodding because the ground was already prepped and I had my crew ready to go. Needless to say I was not happy. The reason I give Grass Outlet 5 stars is because they made the situation right. They comped 2 pallets of their own zoysia (which by the way was much much thicker and greener than the other outfit) and also refunded some money. The best "test" for a business is how they handle a situation when things go wrong, and in this situation, I was completely satisfied with Mike's response. I called and emailed multiple times, finally got an estimate and it wasn't for the grass or yardage that we discussed. I've since emailed 3 more times and left a message and haven't heard back! Very painless. You order/pay for the grass, they deliver it, you install it and water it. Every single piece either took root or was easily grown over by the piece next to it. The online ordering was very easy. They scheduled the delivery, called us early that morning and had the pallets at the end of our driveway before we even knew it. We bought two pallets of Zoysia grass and it was comparable price to anywhere else we looked. One pallet was a little crispy, the other one was better quality. Both pallets were covered in cock-a-burrs which have now started sprouting all over our lawn. We lucked out with a month of rain right after we put down the new grass, so it looks pretty good now. Nice emerald green color. Overall, we're pleased with the grass and the service. Wish there hadn't been cock-a-burrs, but it's a natural product and that happens. Don't know you yelp list me in San Francisco, CA. I'm not. I'm in Austin Texas After lot of research and reading review I designed to go with The Grass Outlet base on their review. The order process is good but there was a problems after the order. 1. I order 7 pallets when the truck show up, the driver somehow dropped 1 of the pallet to the middle of the road. I got to get my ass out to help him pulled every SOD and put them back to the pallet. Many SOD were damaged because of the dropped. But I think I still have enough SOD because I order extra. This is the first problem I got. 2. Many bad SOD in the remain 6 pallets and end up I'm missing grass to finished my yard. 3. Called them up later (on Monday) and explained the situation and they promised get back to me after talking to the boss or the owner. Didn't call me back. I call again and this time they said I have to contact the truck driver or the truck company to confirm and will let me know. 4. After a few days, I called them back on Thus and they said they still waiting for the driver, the trucking to contact them before they can do anything about it. They said they hand were tied and can't do anything till the hear back from the driver or the truck company. They are just a middle man and don't have the grass for you. Save your money and your time with someone else who is in the real business and not let the customer hanging. read more

***Poor quality sod and rude*** When I arrived, I pointed out to the attendant that there were several torn pieces that would fall apart upon grabbing. He just replied curtly, "that's what it is...." In the end, I had to throw away 11 of 25 pieces of sod I purchased. I will have my credit card company initiate a dispute. Rather than upselling me to buy more and spend more, they encouraged me to repair my grass in the back rather than a full install. Saved me a lot of money. Today, the crew showed up for the installation of the front and to repair the back. Excellent crew. Really knew what they were doing. Did a great job on the install. Extensive quality checks along the way and at the end. Turned on the sprinklers to make sure everything was working properly. Start to finish a great experience. Probably fine for commercial jobs but dont care about the "little guy" I had some construction done in my backyard and needed only 3 pallets worth of grass to replace the damaged areas. Going off of my contractors suggestion I used the grass outlet. I ordered on a Monday(11/27/17) and was hoping for a delivery in a day or 2. That was quickly squashed when they told me it wouldn't be till Friday (12/1/17). Still only a 4 day delay so I dealt with it. Well Thursday comes and they call and tell me that "irrigation issues" caused delays and they wouldn't be able to get my grass to me until the FOLLOWING Friday (12/8/17). Well here we are on Thursday 12/7/17 and I get another call saying they are pushing me back ANOTHER WEEK (12/15/17) due to rain. I fully understand that rain is 100% out of their control and sod farms will always shut down harvesting when its raining. I can even be understanding with their vague "irrigation issues"...What I dont appreciate is the reasoning I received as to why they couldn't get the grass to me any sooner. I was literally told "We cant justify making a delivery of just 3 pallets" as to why I needed to wait for a full week each time I faced a delay. Apparently my measly 3 pallets ($500 worth) is not important enough to them to flex a bit or accommodate. If I had 30-40 pallets worth on a commercial job, bet your last dollar they would make it work. I understand that logistics and cost of deliveries are important to your business P&L but when you have a paying customer have to wait over 2 solid weeks to get grass that would usually take 2-3 days I would think its time to step up a little bit and do SOMETHING to make things right. If you're a residential customer outside the Austin area, Id suggest shopping someplace closer to home and work a little more hand and hand with "small orders". read more

I Am Amazed! We bought 5 pallets of St. Augustine for our Plano house, 2 months ago and put it in ourselves. The prep consisted of 1) making sure the sprinklers were covering 100% of the lawn 2) using 30% vinegar to kill old grass and weeds on some weedy areas and 3) tilling the entire area that was to receive the sod (some big areas we didn't use any vinegar, just tilled it up pretty well and now it looks the same as the rest of the lawn - so, in retrospect you could skip the vinegar and be fine). Laying the sod was easy but took the whole weekend. After it was down, we used a water-filled roller and set the sprinklers to 2x/day (10 mins/zone) for 2 weeks. The grass took immediately. This grass is not only beautiful, it is one the healthiest plants I've ever seen. This stuff is almost growing too much and too dense. Zero weeds in the grass. Awesome! Delivery was right when they said it would be and there were very few sod sections that we couldn't use. 5 stars. read more

We had prepared our backyard for sodding, only to find the place we had planned to get our sod from (Don's Dirt) only had brown sod---in other words, dead sod! It was Sunday and my boyfriend called around. I wasn't expecting anything, but even though this place wasn't open, a guy was there and answered the phone. Just by chance, some contractor hadn't picked up a pallet of the exact kind of sod we wanted, and the guy offered to wait around til we could come pick it up! They were extremely nice and helpful and we're getting more from them. They were also cheaper ($95) for a pallet than Don's Dirt, and their sod was green and alive. read more

I ordered 11 pallets of Tiff Bermuda. The ordering process was pleasant and easy; the delivery man was polite and helpful. The grass looked like it was on its last leg when it got to us. It had dead pieces and pieces of St Augustine mixed in. We watered it a ton (having to purchase water delivery services) and we managed to revive it. The most frustrating part was that palettes did not contain the 450 sq ft as expected and we were about 300 sq ft short. We had to leave for a trip immediately after installing the turf, so I had to wait a week and a half to double check my measurements and ensure that I had not mismeasured. When I confirmed that the delivery was indeed short and called to see what could be done, I was told that they were no longer responsible because I had not called in the first 48 hours. Not only that but I would have to pay 50% more to deliver one pallets than I had to get the initial 11 palettes. In short, be prepared to receive less than healthy sod, and make sure you double check how much they sent you within the 48 hours (assuming they would indeed help within that window) read more
