They're not kidding when they call this "The Great Hall" Gastropub. This is one large dining area. Since we had two dinners here, both in the evening there was no window view of the lake. Just some nice light music by the guitar player entertaining us for the evening. The first night we came in from our Rocky Mountaineer train ride. Not too late and sat down for a nice light dinner. Some fish & Chips for me and brisket sandwich for my wife. Our friends also had the F&C and a burger. After traveling all day and an early pickup you don't want to eat too heavy. The next day we came back late from our tours and came in for a light bite. (see my hotel review). Both the bar and Gastropub were packed and there is really no place else to go. We had to wait a little while but finally made it back in to the Gastropub. It was late and we just did some appetizers. Some flat bread, wings and nachos. The orders are pretty large and the four of us shared. The service both nights was wonderful. The staff here is a great bunch of extremely friendly and caring people. Nothing to complain about... So I'm writing these reviews after my trip to Jasper. My first one was at the Juniper, in Banff, which was very good. And then we had an amazing brunch at the Fairmont in Banff. We went for a little cozy and chic at the Kumama which had some rough spots, but for the most part was OK. But here we are at another Fairmont. And we cut out my beach time at the lake and canoeing so we can eat here for lunch as a family. Martin S. says it all, this is one of Canada's jewels, and I'm sure he means the cute squirrel that provided entertainment for the guests at the patio. A cute squirrel was running around with a big white carnation, or hair scrunchie, or ruffled tissue trying to court another squirrel. Our meal took FOREVER. FOREVER to arrive and FOREVER to pay. I ordered poke - because why shouldn't you order sushi in Alberta. It was actually OK. Too much dressing drenched the fish. I really liked the mango. They might have been previously frozen, but they were sweet. Someone ordered fish and chips - which is fried so you shouldn't be able to mess that up. My husband ordered a wrap which I think was OK. Someone ordered a salad - and it's a pretty basic salad. Can't mess up there. And someone else ordered bison burger. This is how we learned why our food took FOREVER: The fry cook was busy burning the patty - he had to make sure it was rock hard. First it was the burned cheesecake at the Kumama and then it was this burned patty. My brother-in-law literally took it out of the bun and dropped it on the plate and there was a audible "ker-KLUNK!". I guess the people here have taken inspiration from the Jasper Fire Complex to a whole new degree. I was further disappointed that at a golf resort, and this place looked like the clubhouse or something similar, so I was hoping for a club sandwich. Must not be a Canadian thing. The menu was pretty boring and I had a hard time picking something vaguely healthy that wasn't a boring salad, which is why I went for the poke. While the food was mostly edible, I would definitely prefer to try out the other restaurants at JPL. This was a rather disappointing experience, especially compared to our other Fairmont excursions. read more

I had dinner there after checking in to the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. There was something special sitting in the huge lodge with floor to ceiling glass windows that looked out over the lake. Our waitress was very friendly and personable. We both ordered fish and chips which was good but not great. Overall a good meal, somewhat pricey, but sitting in the lodge while taking in the view was definitely worth it! read more

Don't let the generic name fool you, this place is one of Canada's jewels. It's the unassuming name of the restaurant inside the famous Jasper Park Lodge! You'd think it might have something a little more bombastic for such an epic location and pedigree. Regardless, we had a decent meal there for our lunch with guests from both near and far. And since we were there between the snowboarding season, and the summer tourist season, we almost had the massive dining room to ourselves which was pretty cool. Whenever I'm in Alberta there are things emblazened into my psyche that I gravitate to without evening giving it a second thought. Firstly and most importantly is steak. If you go to Alberta and don't order steak then you should is putting it mildly. The other thing is to order their specialty, the cocktail known as the mighty Caesar! The Great Hall didn't disappoint with this iconic Alberta drink, and I also had a bowl of French Onion soup which was very tasty. Don't hesitate to have lunch here! Sure, it was spendy for a lunch, but not out of line for a world-class tourist spot with an undeniably amazing view of the Rocky Mountains Jasper style. Well worth it! read more

Arrived for breakfast, and told about 20 minute wait. Put our name on the list and grabbed a coffee and sat at the nice couches by the fireplace with the mountain views. I ordered the salmon board and wife the traditional. Both recommended. Presentation and taste was excellent. I also tried the turmeric and carrots juice, and the green juice. The green juice was absolutely delicious!! It was a bit of a wait for the food to arrive but I had my wife as great company so it was overall a good experience. read more

The Great Hall is truly "great" -- this place is huge! It's on the main floor of the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Main Lodge, across from the check-in desk. Thankfully reservations are not needed, and they have plenty of seating. The food is not bad (I've had better and expected better of Fairmont); the meats were a bit tougher and drier than I expected. The fried oyster mushroom appetizer was quite impressive -- they tasted like fried calamari! We also got the curried cauliflower and the chicken wings and they were fine. My husband got the baby back ribs for the entree and it was a whole slab of ribs, plus mac 'n' cheese, and beans, which was great! Too bad the meat was quite tough. :( I got the lobster roll and it comes in 3 very large rolls. It was good value-for-money for the quantity of lobster they gave, but it tasted like a lot of mayo, more than the typical lobster rolls I get on the east coast and west coast. My mom got the chicken, and was a whole chicken. Kudos on the portion sizes! Again very good value for money. She said it was a little bit more dry than she expected. My dad got the braised pork with rice, and the flavor was on-point, exactly what he expected, but again, the meat itself was a bit tough for him to bite through. The profiterole dessert at the end, although it was huge and had great flavor, the texture was a bit "wet" and not fluffy anymore. Overall it was a good experience -- attentive service, great ambience, large food portions (good value-for-money), food was tasty. My entree took over 1.5 hours to come out from the time I ordered it. We also had to flag down a waitress to take our order to begin with since we were ignored for about 20 min after sitting. The staff I talked to were all really nice but there is a major lack of coordination overall. A nice hotel like the Fairmont shouldn't let guests have experiences like this. read more
