This off-the-beaten path bar and restaurant is tucked away next to Lake Delton with a covered patio (it was February, so we didn't get to enjoy the patio, which looks to have a new outdoor bar this summer). The Green Owl makes their own pizza dough and offered several interesting pizzas. We tried the Mr. Potatoehead (mashed potatoes, rosemary, bacon) and it was really good! Our son RAVED about the lobster mac 'n cheese from the upstairs restaurant and went promptly into a food coma. If you order off the upstairs menu, it will likely come later than anything ordered downstairs, so be patient. :) We were there at a bit after 5 on Valentine's Day and pretty much had our pick of places to sit. About 30 minutes later, a huge group of at least 20 came in and took up several tables. This place is real Wisconsin! And a legit Vegan and Vegetarian option for Dells vacationers. The pizza was of incredible quality - clearly scratch sauce. Wife ordered a vegan melt. The bar manager was Wisconsin enough to make sure she intended to order off the Vegetarian and Vegan menu! She did and was gastronomically rewarded. It even fooled this 40-inch waisted carnivore. The Thursday night vibe and burger special was just what we needed after a day at the water park and road trip. Family of four - two kids 9 and 12. Recently went to Green Owl on a Saturday night and it was super quiet and it looks like it would be a busy spot when in the summer as it is right on the water. It could also be a good spot for teams during the April soccer tournaments and other sporting events as they could accommodate a bigger group. Pizza was quite good and really enjoyed the large whiskey selection. Ambiance is a bit old school but fun place and I would go back for sure. read more

We came in relatively late, so it was a bit of an uncanny walk to the entrance, but once we got in the door it was lovely! The pizza was absolutely phenomenal, although the menu was fairly limited. We got one of their specialty pizzas and asked for no onions. The pizza reminded us of a wonderful place back home that had relocated years ago and we have missed it ever since, with thin cracker crust and flavorful ingredients. What a throwback! My only complaint about the Green Owl is that the music was a bit loud for conversation, but the service was great and the food was definitely worth the trip! read more

Pizza at Wilderness Resort is disgusting. Delivered large green owl supreme from here was fantastic- fresh veggies on top, quality mozz, delivered warm. The crust and style is almost medium by density. It is definitively not NY style pizza as advertised and i wouldn't really call it thin either. No biggie. But the Mediterranean salad WAS AWESOME. Really as good or better quality than what you'd get in Madison. Surrounded by the junk at the resort, this was a welcome respite, loved the pitted olives and feta especially. Server said we could sit anywhere outside, yet Service was nonexistent. when sitting on the patio, people are allowed to smoke cigarettes out there. Once I get that pizza craving, there is no stopping it! Thankfully The Green Owl was able to quench my insatiable thirst ;) Ordered a white pie (add sausage), mediterranean salad, and order of french fries for pickup. Lady that took order was the only one working and was very nice. I mentioned the Yelp check in offer for the free fries and she seemed to know what that was all about. She accidentally charged me for them though, oops, oh well, mistakes happen. Sometimes when a restaurant is very slow, it actually doesn't operate as well as when it is very full. She provided cash to cover the difference of me being overcharged. The quoted pickup time ended up being about 10 minutes before the food was ready. Not a big deal, but I usually believe in the underpromise, overdeliver motto. It gave me an opportunity to checkout the cool decor in the relatively large restaurant, bar, gameroom, etc. Not a soul in there but me. This is a testament to how restaurants are hit by Covid; it was like 8pm on a Saturday! Granted, it was likely the lowest demand weekend of the year for the Dells, but still, clearly they are needing some more business. They do offer delivery, so perhaps that is where they are banking their cheddar these days. Onto the food; my wife did not think the mediterranean salad was anything to write home about. The fries were quite tasty, with a lovely sauce to boot. Onto the highlight of my evening: THE WHITE PIE. It reminds me of Little Star in the Bay Area of SF, one of my favorite pizzas ever. It is so good. I saw pics of their gourmet sausages on Yelp and had them added to the order. Was definitely the right call. I'll probably order one again next time I am in town. Really mixed on this review. We decided to stop in here based on the reviews. Let me start off positive , this pizza was really good. The ingredients were fresh and I would differently order their pizza again. But this is where everything kind of stops. We ordered a couple salads while we waited on the pizza. The salads came out with the pizza and kind of defeated the purpose of ordering them. The service was extremely poor, the waitress didn't know the menu and seemed confused that the place actually had food. We Had to send a simple salad back 2 times because they couldn't get that we just wanted lettuce and cheese. It came out with everything the first time and then gave it back to the waitress. For it to come back out as a Caesar salad. At this point we just gave up on getting what we asked for. I would definitely get the pizza again but ONLY as carry out. The pizza here was excellent, and the service was also good. A cut above the chains and larger scale establishments in the Dells. It can be confusing to find where to go. You have to walk under a deck along Lake Delton to get to the actual restaurant, but I understand they may also offer service outdoors. There's another restaurant on site that makes it a little confusing as well. read more

It was ok. This order is based on getting take out, not dining in. It was one of the only things open at the time we were there that wasn't a fast food place so we thought we'd try it. My daughter loved the cheese bread but wasn't fond of the cheese cake. I really enjoyed the artichoke dip, it was good. The fries were salted just right and the dip with them was good but the fries themselves were pretty soggy. Why is everyone not here? The pizza is amazing and I've had some awesome pizza. We started at Moosejaw and the noise and tourist feel was way overwhelming as was the wait. So Yelp to the rescue. We find The Green Owl. Its an unassuming place off the road on a frontage road. Decor straight out of 1996 with the bud light table cloth and pool table. Ignore all that - the pizza is awe-inspiring. Kids had a $5 pizza that was 6" but was really close to 8-10" and was amazing. Kid 1 had pepperoni and the pepperoni was thick and spicy and had a wonderful tomato sauce. A crispy crust and plenty of cheese. Kid 2 had cheese and all the same qualities. As we waited for food the kids played pool and we played pull tabs. Quiet juke box music soothed us with the sounds of late 90's and early 2000's. At one point "toy soldiers" came on by Martika and we quietly swayed to the soothing sounds of 1980's and shoulder pads and great hair styles. Then parents spinach and artichoke white cheese pizza came out and it was on par with the kids. Flat (as opposed to a thick and overly doughy and lumpy crust) and thin crust with a nice flavor and wonderful crunch. We ate it all. The garlic and artichoke along with the cheese and zip of Spinach was just what doctor feel good would order (80's ref). Beer selection isn't craft brewery but macro brews worked as I downed two NE IPA by Sam Adams. Top it off (speaking to the Dad's) total bill with pull tabs for 4 was $46! Topped it off with a generous tip and $4 winnings and I was out the door at $55. Wisconsin Dells pricing makes that a special deal! read more

We found this on yelp, and then got local recommendations that said this was the best pizza in town and my family was NOT disappointed, we completely agreed! Great friendly staff, super chill place, awesome food. My family of got three 10" pizzas, and a kids pizza and had 6 pieces left over. Breakfast pizza was delicious (best anywhere according to my 13 year old, and me), green owl was really good, and the taco was stellar. My wife was worried that there were no chips on the taco, but we all agreed it was the BEST translation of a taco into pizza that we'd ever had anywhere, really good. I was visiting the Dells with my grandkids and decided to have the green owl deliver food to our hotel. When I received the food I called and told them the food was awful and not safe to eat. I ordered chicken strips and fries. The fries were cold and looked as if they had been sitting for hours. The nachos were burnt black and our cheese burgers were raw. I mean Raw. After waiting for a call back, I was told the owner would only replace the fries and nachos and I would have to pick them up. This is a locals restaurant. If you are thinking you will experience the speed of a Pizza Hut... you won't. But that's OK. The pizza experience here is very good. This is a relaxed, laid back eatery. I ordered cheese bread which seemed to take longer than normal to get. After playing darts with the whole family, our cheese bread was still AWOL. I asked the Waiter/Bartender how much longer our bread would be. With the gentle kindness of a pro, he reminded me the restaurant was busy, and that we were in line to get it soon. I suddenly remembered again...THIS IS NOT PIZZA HUT. AND THAT'S OK. We did get out cheesebread soon thereafter. It was good. Not the best I have had, bit much better than most. We ordered two 10 inch pizzas. One simple cheese, the other pepperoni and sausage. I like their sauce. Not overly sweet with sugar but also not tart and salty like tomato paste. Nice balance of flavor. I absolutely loved the sausage. Very tasty. Again great flavor. Not really greasy, at least not enough to have to use napkins to soak up the pools of grease cupped in the pepperoni. The pepperoni was also notably NOT normal Gordon Food Service meat. If you came to WI Dells cause you have kids, but, nonetheless, hate tourist infestations, this place is for you. I've traveled plenty in WI and this is the quintessential bar/food establishment. If you're from IL like me, you know there are no such establishments like this in the Land of Lincoln. It comes from their German settlers (WI had the most) where drinking and eating with the family was tradition not contraband. Anyway close enough to the Dells to not be out of the way, and the drive gives you a window tour of all the Dells has to offer. This beer has a good microbrew selection and the food is mostly made by hand and they are very conscious of things like celiac disease and vegans. Would totally come back. read more
