We were staying in the area before graduation at UW-Madison and needed some late night eats on a Friday around 9pm. A group of six of us walked in, sat ourself, and I asked a bartender if the kitchen was open. There were two guys behind the bar. They looked at each other and gave a nod. The younger guy said yes, but we are out of the fish fry. No problem for us. We were served by the younger guy and he was friendly, attentive, and didn't treat us as second class as most of our group took water while I had a couple beers. It was pretty quiet when we arrived. We tried a couple apps, and a few different burgers and fried shrimp. Having read about the steak burger, we had high expectations but it fell a bit flat. Others mentioned a sauce, but there wasn't any in ours. The burger with bacon and jalapeño was a banger though! Onion rings and fries were excellent. The curds were good, but I've had better. When it came time to close the check, our server met me as I jumped off my stool. I don't know his name, but gave him a 25% tip. Wish he worked at my place! For the Dells, the price is very reasonable in my opinion. As we were leaving things were lighting up, and getting loud. I got the impression the kitchen was closing even though they say they are open late as the older guy was grumbling about only having two people working. As an owner of a cocktail bar I get that things happen, but I don't like my employees getting upset about it. The younger guy kept his cool - even if he was hoping for more. I do plan to go back for another service and ask about the sauce on the steak burger. Felt weird to talk about it before getting it the way I assume they serve it. I had plans to go elsewhere but my son was lured in by the name, and I was like fine we can try it. Overall we had pretty bland food and the place was dead at the time, despite this our waitress gave us no attention and even got my order wrong....we were he only table (there was one other family eating there -- lunch time -- and they had a different waitress. Very much unimpressed. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of one star, is the soup of the day (a cauliflower soup) was absolutely delicious...but the main meal was bland to put it mildly. There are too many other options. I'm not much of a drinker but I'm also sure the drinks would be good as they looked appetizing, yet with better options in town, I still wouldn't recommend. read more

This place has the homiest dive bar feeling that welcomes locals and out of towners. We had their fish fry and it might be one of the best I've had! The two bartenders both checked on us and make sure we had drinks and the food was delivered super quickly! read more

First off, I came in here on 08/18/2025 at roughly 1030pm, kitchen OPEN--1/2 off wings, regular BBQ wings was so tender and it's ALL WHITE MEAT!!! Also ordered Mini Tacos were just as delicious too!!!! The bartender named Nate was so welcoming and enthusiastic about how to please us when we came in, very respectful and friendly--takes his job VERY seriously and has fun in between while still taking care of business. read more

This is a pretty nice dive bar. They have a small food menu, mostly fried things. The drinks are fairly priced. The decor inside is very entertaining, definitely a vibe. Come here to the Dells with the fam every year. Came here for karaoke and obviously the KJ has his faves or people that "looks like him" who sang twice before I even got up. Add that he is boring and doesn't engage, just call names. I left after waiting over an hour. It wasn't crowded much at all either. I got grandfathered in to a Sandbar tradition by my boyfriend and his family. His family is mainly from Chicago, but went to St Mary's college in Minnesota. The Wisconsin Dells are a great halfway point, so they stopped here often on trips to and from home/college. Sandbar became a St Mary's bar of sorts for them, with banners and flags from the school hanging everywhere. As far as the experience, the Sandbar is the perfect road trip stop. It's a quiet dive bar during the day--never have been at night! I like the signs and fun paraphernalia around the place. There's usually a max of two people working during the day, but our waiters here have always been very nice. My boyfriend is OBSESSED with their steak sandwich sauce. They know people love this stuff so much that they can it and sell it for $4! He always gets the steak sandwich. I've had their wings a few times and they never disappoint. Don't expect a fancy menu with anything crazy, but the food they do offer is good and fuels you for the rest of your trip. read more

Hometown bar with kinda a dingy look...but don't let that dissuade you. They make a mean burger. Had mine with bacon grilled onions and jalapeños. The side salad I ordered (always a chance in a bar) was fresh spring greens, crisp cucumbers and onion with the old style French I didn't even know they made anymore. All in all, friendly place with good food I'd go to if I lived here. read more

This place was fantastic from the drinks to the the company and the bartenders (Lace and Nico were fantastic) and the food was great! But unfortunately there was one bartender who was not friendly nor did she acknowledge my boyfriend and I (Bree?). Everyone else was friendly and knew a lot about the menu and it's specialties and made us feel comfortable. Maybe Bree is new but I did not feel welcome by her at all and she did not speak until I asked her for a glass of water....I would still come back but I would rather be "served" by anyone else but her. The bartender was very friendly and helpful (very real). Mainly needed food but the beer was great too a lot of selections. I chose a Kona Longboard island lager. And put it in a Hawaii glass that was so super cool. (See picture) Good summer beer, I tend to like stouts but very satisfying. We had half naked cheese curds and a patty melt. Go earlier in the day if you want the Friday fish fry, as they run out often ('cuz it's sooo good!) and only serve the fish fry until 10 p.m. Full menu still available after that; the only place downtown that serves more than pizza or fryer food right up until bar time. My favorite place to hang out on a Saturday night. Karaoke every Saturday and Terran is the bomb. The half naked curds are the best, perfect goo-iness and not a mouthful of fried batter with every curd. Half-price wings on Mondays. Packer games are a ton of fun to watch here, but does get crowded quickly before game time. Sand Bar is reasonably priced for this area, as a meal for the two of us with an appetizer and no alcoholic drinks runs between $23 - $25. read more

My friends and I were looking for a joint to watch the Packer Game while in the area. The Sand Bar has a good beer special and endless wings for 10 dollars for game day. Free shots served at touchdowns. There were some fun guys working behind the bar. When they left, we felt a bit under served by the ladies who were left in charge. My one friend felt ignored. I still had a nice time and would think about going here again if I was in the Dells. Tables and Chairs were clean and in good repair. Bathroom was clean and tidy. STEAK SAMMIE! Same for the last 40 years my parents have been going there! Owner is super friendly, chatted it up with my parents who were soo excited for a trip down memory lane to the time when they were first married and checking out the Wisc Dells. Steak sandwich hasn't changed a bit. 6 oz Sirloin on a bun with hot sauce on the side. Simple and perfection! Newer location (they moved from the original tiny bar up the street in 2007, but took the grill with!). I love the sandbar! I enjoyed these sammies 10 years ago when I worked as a lifeguard at Noahs, they are delish! Saw some onion rings go by that look amazing! Must try! OK, we all know that the restaurants can get out a hand in the Dells with their prices. But the sandbar defeats that and hits you even harder with some of the best food you'll ever have. Let me start with the NICO sauce which is used on their wings. I would say it is in the top three sauces and the cooked prepped wings are the best I've had in my life. Traveling around the world and the country I'm always searching for some good wings and this little gem is right on top. Me and my girl will travel sometimes from Milwaukee two hours just to get the wings on a Monday. Anytime we're in the Dells we come here minimum of three times on the trip. I'm not a steak person but their famous steak sandwich is to DIE FOR! It's a thinner cut and the sauce is amazing. I was introduced to the Sand Bar by a former St Mary's alum who says they stopped here all the time. You can also buy their sandwiches and sauce frozen to take home. read more

Came here on Christmas Day and while we know that most places are closed, we figured if they are open it must be good...we were wrong. The steak sandwich was bland and lacked any real toppings. They don't even give you a plate, it is wrapped in paper like a McDonald's cheeseburger (which, btw, would have been more satisfying). The burgers were also lame too, only adding an extra patty made it a little better. Service was slow and just ok, nothing to write home about. Drinks were expensive and also, nothing to get excited about. Definitely will not be back. read more

I must admit getting here and walking in was super awkward! We went latenight on a Monday about 9:45pm and when we walked in there was nobody that worked there was at sight... but after reading reviews we really wanted to give it a try! So my boyfriend walked up to bar and let them know we were there. We sat outside and waited and within 10 the waitress came out super friendly and welcoming we felt relieved somewhat lol anywho it ended up turning out great! The service was amazing we were definitely not locals and we did not feel out of place the waitress made us feel comfortable and welcomed! We placed an order and she let us know it would be a bit of a wait because there was a large group ahead of us and we definelty appreciated that! The wings were amazing and the beer as well! Strictly a beer bar, but they have 100 defferent selections to chose from. They also run a contest to see who can try all 100 beers! Its a small bar with an oldstyle juke box, a pool table, dart board, and great friendly service. I ventured into the Sand Bar as it's off the main drag. I was happy to have a $3.00 High Life in Wisconsin Dells. I also enjoyed a cheap basket of fries, the prices has escaped my mind. This is like a bad townie bar in the dowtown Dells. We went there to watch some NCAA tourney games. Walked in and it wasn't too busy - maybe 10 people. They had the games on, but no sound. They did, however, have a juke box and someone had selected some clubby trans music that was blairing and super annoying. So loud and so bad that we couldn't take it and went to another bar. I can tolerate a lot of music, but not club music in a "sports" bar while people are trying to watch a game or play darts. I did give them 2 stars because they have do have beer and that is a good thing. read more
