Stopped by Monk's Bar & Grill for a late lunch in the Dells and so glad we did! Located right on Broadway in the heart of the Wisconsin Dells, Monk's serves up pub grub in a comfortable bar setting. When you walk in, you're immediately met with the bar. They do have additional seating but you have to make your way past the bar to find it. We decided to sit at the bar and were happy for the low key atmosphere while we enjoyed a cocktail and some lunch. For my cocktail, I ordered a Manhattan which was decently made. For my lunch, I got the bbq chicken wrap, which was great. I got fries on the side which were also crispy and delicious. The kitchen is adjacent to and can be seen from our perch at the bar, which was nice to see our food being prepared. All in all, this is a great casual spot for a beverage and a bite on any trip to the Dells. Get to it! read more

Such a cute restaurant right in the heart of town! Recommended to us by a couple who had been coming to the town for 20 years. We were walking distance away but plenty of street parking. They have a bar and a few tablets immediately when you walk in. Need to move past the bar to get to the host stand. They have three levels of seating, and it was a fun atmosphere! We ordered the cheese curds which were served with ranch and marinara sauce, and they were absolutely delicious! We had the brisket burger and Gouda burger and they were both massive and delicious. We came in relatively late on a Monday, as a party of 4. We were greeted and seated immediately- service was very good & staff was bilingual, easily switching between English and Spanish. 2 specialty beers, a fountain drink, an order of pretzel braids, Gouda Burger, wrap with upgrade to tots came to about $80 after tip. Averaging $20pp with splitting meals and 3 drinks, 1 water. The rather standard pretzel came with 3 dips- the jalapeño cream cheese easily being the favorite, followed by mustard & no interest in the nachos cheese one from anyone. The burger (& wrap) came with battered fries that are quite tasty & were used to finish off the pretzels dips - my preference would be the fries over the tots (the wrap order upgraded to). Now, the star... the burger was thick and juicy with a bun that handled it well. Yoppings were fresh - we paid extra (not much) to get the works on the burger & asked for a side of mayo for the fries. This worked well for the 2 of us to split. Come for the burgers not the booze. The burgers were fabulous, juicy and came out fast and fresh. The fries are great, we also got a pretzel app and it was also very good. The drinks however fell short. My hubby got an old fashioned and we'll see the photo of the pink concoction he got that tasted like cinnamon. Maybe it's a regional thing but he's an avid old fashioned drinker and well it was like nothing we've had before. We then ordered monk-aritas to take the place and those tasted like pure sweet and sour. They had a good looking beer list so probably should have went that way. Monk's Bar & Grill gives 'welcome to the midwest' vibes and we loved it. We stopped in on a Friday night for dinner after craving a burger. We were seated quickly and the server was awesome. We started with a pineapple sour mocktail- it was good but nothing to write home about. The good on the other hang was awesome. We did a bacon cheese burger- no complaints, a spicy burger with subs- made as ordered, and the brisket burger with a TON of subs- 100% made to order. All of the burgers were fabulous and came out within about 15 minutes. Our waitress came back to check on us but honestly everything was perfect and we didn't need much. I would come back the next time we are in town. I noticed they have an upstairs but didn't have a chance to check it out. read more

Epitome of a downtown bar. Lots of character Its interesting layout is narrow, but long. Seems like the kind of place you could never get a table but somehow a seat always has just opened up, I wouldn't necessarily recommend for groups larger than 4. Service leaned a tad slow but there was a festival downtown. Staff was very friendly and accommodating to us first timers. Food was good but a step from great. Fries I would order well done and need some salt but the light batter is lovely. Monk's is one of the must stop restaurants when planning a trip to Wisconsin Dells. They have the classic cheese cards, multiple beers, cocktails, delicious burgers, wings and so much more. there is multiple locations, but the one in downtown is the best since it is the original. All of the historical information, articles, artwork is throughout the entire restaurant. It's great as an all age restaurant. Very kid friendly but also a great stop for the adults. Monks is such a staple in the dells! Been eating here since I was a kid. My last couple of trips I've been eating at the lake Delton location, decided this trip to do the OG location. First - a lot of people say do the OG location. If you want the bar vibes and smaller restaurant, go for it! But the burgers taste exactly the same. They're completely different vibes and the lake Delton menu is bigger and a more formal restaurant. I did feel the service was better at lake Delton vs OG. We never went without refills at lake Delton but here we had to wait to ask. Truly no big deal, but a server always gets extra points when you don't need to ask. The food was delicious as always! I just wish the cheese curds were hot. They were luke warm and same with the fries. I'll probably stick with the lake Delton location on future trips, but always enjoy any time I can eat a monks burger! read more

First time to WI! We will be back! Stopped on our way home from Mayo. Needed some official WI cheese curds LOL and Monk's did NOT disappoint! Best I've ever had, since my options are limited in GA lol. Soooo good!!! Should have only ordered that, since I wasn't very hungry, but as usual, I over ordered lol. The brisket burnt ends street tacos were so good! I'm glad I got them, especially without the cilantro. I wish they had a little shredded cheese but it wasn't missed. The chipotle aoli was the perfect "sauce" for them. The hubs got a burger. He ordered medium and got medium/well, no pink, BUT it was so good he didn't care! It better be that good if they have been famous for them for so long! lol He got curly fries and they were good but not much more than Arby's lol. Our waitress was attentive, recommended the burnt tips and I agree so good, and took great care of us. The restaurant looked HUGE which is probably needed since it is right by The Wilderness Resort, water parks and many other attractions. We didn't see much of the inside but what we did was fun, vibrant, clean, and inviting. I'm not sure but it may be 3 floors. The waitress also gave extras of this really good sauce that came with our appetizer. Half size Onion Petals- 9/10, which we got the bigger size. Good fried amount to onion ratio. The sauce some spicy dipping sauce was amazing with it. Bacon Cheeseburger with Lettuce and Tomato- 8/10, really good meat. Freshness of lettuce and tomato. Went here this past week in 5/14/34@ 2pm Went here with a friend. Really good food, reasonably priced. Super fast service. Great server. A friend of mine for a Margarita. I personally don't drink but was told it was good. We both got the 'Cubanna' (Hope I spelled it right). Very very good. Great amount of fries. I didn't get the hot mustard that comes in my sandwich but asked for a six of bbq sauce, it was perfect. Many know I like to support local when U can. There are your big box places on the wedge of town. You in Wisconsin Dells! Live a little. Lol, and be glad you did! They have great food. The best burgers. The restaurant was a bit small and awkward for our group of four and the upstairs was very hot on the scorching summer day so we moved to the bar which makes conversation difficult. Neat, clean, well staffed with attentive servers. The menu covers everyone. We dined there twice the same day, lunch and dinner. The flat bread (pizza like) was excellent as was the mushroom burger and the salads. The 8 year old would not eat the fabulous Mac n cheese (note to restaurants with kids menus, use the box stuff, and promote it). If we ever go back to the Dells we will go back to Monks! read more

It was still a decent burger to fill the belly but nothing memorable. The alcohol drink was also mid. I got it because it was advertised on the menu and it sounded interesting. Many years ago before there was more than one Monk's we stopped at the original in downtown Dells. It was a real throwback with great memorabilia on the walls and solid food. On a recent slow late October weekday we were back in town and stopped in for lunch. Some of the great memorabilia is gone and of course there are now a bunch of Monks in Southern Wisconsin. I have eaten at a few of them and none have impressed. We ordered at the bar and after much discussion with bartender in an attempt to decipher the pricing of their daily specials. The side of chili was good but could have used a bit of heat. The special burger with ham and cajun season was way overcooked. I ordered medium rare and it was medium well. I should have sent it back but since it took so long to get our food (in a pretty empty place) I did not. Disappointing. My wife got the buffalo style deep fried cauliflower which was pretty tasty. Monk's Bar checks all the boxes you could want for a bar. In fact, it goes one better because it is amply naturally lit, which is something most bars cannot boast. Oh, and the beer is cold and the food is tasty! We stopped in for an early dinner with a group of nine (half adults, half kids) and were not only seated right away but also given wonderful attention throughout our meal. Our waitress was very friendly and the staff beautifully handled a spill (still not sure who caused it, but they leapt into action and even mopped the floor). We had an assortment of beverages, appetizers, and entrees and everything came out hot and tasted delicious. The thing that won my heart (via my stomach) were the wings. Wow, they are fantastic! Walking away from our meal we were all full of food and good vibes. I'm now a big fan of Monk's and will make it a point to stop by the next time I'm in The Dells. read more
