We visited 54 Below to see Laurie Roldan sing The Carpenters. The venue is located at 254 West 54th Street in the basement of the legendary Studio 54. Each night Broadway stars and emerging artists give cabaret-style performances for eager audiences. 54 Below, known as "Broadway's Supper Club," offers a seasonal menu of classic American cuisine. The dining experience was interesting and the service was fast and friendly. My friend and I split a burger and fries ($25), had 2 cocktails ($19 each) and a pinot grigio ($17). They had a minimum spend of $25 per person, which we easily met. There are about 20 tables and 6 larger booths. When we went many of the booth seats were taken by family and friends of the performers. The overall experience was entertaining. My friend really loved it. I thought it was great to experience something different and special, but I'm not sure how often I would come back. read more

We joined some friends there to see Marilyn Maye's cabaret performance (just a few days past her 98th birthday). The club is in the basement of Studio 54, quite an intimate and artful setting. One must get there early enough to put in order for dinner, as one should courteously refrain from eating once the show starts at 7 pm. We ordered crispy Brussels sprouts and classic Caesar salad as starters. As a dairy intolerant vegetarian, my options for a main was limited to the vegan risotto primavera. My husband chose tagliatelle carbonara while my son asked for lobster ravioli. Our appetizers came quickly while our mains took a long time to appear - by which time the show was about to start, and we had to eat in a hurry (hence no photos). The food itself was nice, although the portions were a bit small for the pricing. Marilyn Maye was superb, full of energy and good fun, and her accompanists were all amazing musicians. After each show she'd wait upstairs to receive the audience, chat with them and take photos. It was an unforgettable night for all of us. read more

We made a reservation through tdf.org to watch a show of 18 up and coming singers performing new songs in New York City area. We paid $18 for each of two seats normally price $29.50. They call it 54 below because it is located on 54th Street below street level you have to go down his steep set of stairs to reach the club area. Raised circular platform with cocktail tables surrounding. Arrived half hour before the show and which were seated at a small cocktail table for four persons. There were several four persons cocktail tables each of which was filled with one couple. Eventually a few of the tables were filled with a second couple although our table remains with only two people. We ordered two non-alcoholic mango pineapple coconut drinks together with an umbrella and straw. Each each $12 probably the cheapest drink you can find. Website says customers required to purchase $25 minimum food and drink but our contract with tdf.org said that there was no minimum purchase required. This was the second of two shows the first show at 7:00 p.m. and the second show at 9:30 p.m. Tdf.org tickets were available only for the 9:30 show. Probably 2/3 of the tables were filled, largely of friends and relatives of the 18 different singers. I did not recognize any of the singers nor any of the songs. Now you know why the tickets were so cheap. read more

Had a 530 reservation, got a call not to be late. They finally sat us at 6 after standing in a long line. We ordered got the salad at 615 and then the waiter said you better eat faster. Our dinner arrived at 620 and then the waiter said If you're not done by 630 we will move you to the bar to finish. In the meantime time 2 other people were sat at our small cocktail table. I came here last minute for a show and the venue is GORGEOUS. Think cabaret and this is what you get...small intimate tables, stage and entertainment. My reason for 3 stars is more because of the expense. Not only are the tickets expensive, but then you have a drink minimum and the drinks are super expensive. Had wanted to go to 54 Below for years and finally managed to get there to see the amazing Sierra Boggess. She gave a terrific show in the wonderful venue. We had dinner before the show and the food and service were wonderful. We started with the Shrimp Toast and the Crab Cake - both were really good, especially the Shrimp Toast. For entrees, we had the Ribeye, Scallops and the Norwegian Steelhead Trout - all good. For dessert, the Expresso Chocolate Tart provided a nice, albeit rich, finish. I have mixed feelings about 54 Below. I have seen some incredible talent on this stage and it's such an iconic location. It's also a classy joint. They take your coats, walk you to your seat, and there's some great food on the menu. First, I have a gripe with the mandatory minimum spend when you buy a ticket to certain shows. Admittedly, I'm a broke college student so I'm definitely not their target audience but my friend didn't know about this when we went and they were a bit rude about it. I felt like a lot of the staff seemed stressed and that didn't translate well to the service. For some reason, I almost would rather the ticket price be higher and have it include a credit that can be put towards food. That way people don't have to order things they don't want or won't eat/drink just to reach their minimum. This would certainly ease the burden on the staff too. Beautiful performance venue. I saw a cabaret here and the atmosphere was perfect (has an old-school, velvety kind of feel). I ended up getting some wine and a charcuterie board, which was quite delicious (though I wish there were more crackers and bread). The club is a perfect venue for Georges' incredible talent and knowledge of music and Broadway show tunes. Great dinner and nice to see George back in town. 54 below is located under the old Studio 54 and hosts cabaret shows most nights of the week. There's a steep staircase to get to it, but there is also elevator access through the building next door. Advance registration and coat checking are encouraged, as the space is not large. A combination of bar seats, booths, and small tables make up the seating. If you're a group of less than 4 people, you may get seated with strangers - this is the cabaret-style seating referenced on their website. The food was great as were the performances (we saw Sondheim Unplugged). I had the vegan mushroom bisque ($18) and the gnocchi ($24). My husband ordered the autumn greens ($17) and the pumpkin risotto ($24). There was a $25 food and beverage minumum per person for our show, and if you ordered 1.5 drinks, you'd easily get there. Our server was very attentive and we had a nice evening listening to fantastic singers. It's not a cheap night out, but you'll have fun if you're a live music fan. I'm not a person who ventures into New York city alot but on this particular occasion I'm so glad I did. There's a movie on Amazon prime called Belle. It's animated and tons of singing. The girl who voiced the character Kylie McNeill was performing and man let me tell you she was phenomenal. I fell in love with her voice and this place helped. 54 below is gorgeous and the staff makes you feel right at home. I got a burger and truffle mac and cheese. Let me start with the food because it was that good. I had a three course meal which was worth every penny. The duck confit was so tender and well seasoned. It was like butter and fell right off the bone. It was an appetizer but was very filling. For an entree I had the lamb chops an opted for Brussels instead of asparagus. The Brussels were so good that I ordered some to take home. Unfortunately, they smelled up the car but it was worth it. Had for breakfast with eggs the next day. For dessert, I decided to go a little healthier and have berries. The service was subpar. I think it was just our waitress and not all of them. First, it took 40 minutes to get table service and that's including getting water. When we ordered, we had to repeat ourselves several times. The last straw was the fiasco with the bill. My friends have cash and I gave a card. The waitress did not charge the tip on the card as instructed and then came over and asked was everything okay. I responded it was and then she handed me the bill again with the suggested tip amounts on it. I gave her a tip in cash even though I was thoroughly annoyed. One of my favorite places to go in the city for a fabulous night out! The moment you enter, you know you made a smart decision. I always appreciate being greeted by Mark or the other Maître D's who seat you efficiently in one of the most beautiful dining rooms in the city. We usually get there early to enjoy a delicious dinner and drinks. I don't think you can make a bad choice, but I do suggest getting the homemade, Passion Fruit Souffle. It's incredible! We look forward to seeing Mandisa, the general manager. She is funny, kind, and always makes us feel like the most important people in the room. It's always great to visit NYC at Christmas and on our last trip we decided to take in a cabaret style show and supper. I chose 54 Below for its proximity to Broadway and our hotel. Also ( and I'm dating myself here) I was at THEE Studio 54 nightclub in its heyday 40 years ago and I was having a "full circle " moment! It's gone now, and its basement is now 54 Below. Entry and ticket verification was easy, and we were promptly seated. This is kind of a tight seating venue so prepare your claustrophobia accordingly. The pre-show seasonal cocktails were all good, I especially liked the apple cider margarita. The duck confit and baked Brie were sort of expensive and not that great, the duck was rather salty. The best thing we had were the crispy plantain strips and fresh guacamole. I would suggest just getting these finger food apps as they are less expensive and when the house lights go down for the show, easier to dine on. The show portion of our visit was OUTSTANDING! We saw Jess Darrow ( the voice of Luisa in Disney's Encanto) do her one-woman presentation for the holidays "Merry Mischief". Her effervescent personality, high energy stage presence and vocal prowess were delightful to experience. Appearing with her to duet was her Encanto "sister", acclaimed actress Diane Guerrero. With a tight trio providing musical accompaniment and excellent acoustics, the venue really delivered an enjoyable entertainment experience. 5-star entertainment and 3-star food/service give an overall 4-star rating. read more

I absolutely love Feinstein's ... and not just because I proposed to my partner of 15 years there on Pride Friday, which was also the 15th anniversary of our first date ... Everything from the service to the seating to the food was absolutely and utterly FLAWLESS. This may be my first check-in on Yelp, but it is not my first time here, nor will it be my last time. I'm already making plans to book three upcoming shows (with dinner) in the coming months. Though we original came to see the always extraordinary and talented Ann Hampton Callaway perform, the bonus was the fantastic meal and perfect date night (ripe for a proposal) eatery. But cutting to the chase, from the service to the food, on its own (without a show too boot), Feinstein's is a first class, top-rate restaurant. Jon Michael, our server is what hospitality should be about: great personality, attention to detail and knowing how to balance the right about of checking in and giving space as a waiter should. That last part is not a trait you find often. Too often, you're either forgotten about or interrupted unnecessarily. And, he also offered up great recommendations, such as going with the espresso marinated hanger steak over the Filet Mignon since I wanted my meat served over a Caesar salad rather than pasta. (Watching carbs, if you know what I mean.) I'm all about grilled octopus these days, so of course I started with that. It was delicious. Though it was a tad over cooked, it was still good. Jayson had the burrata which he raved about. And, he's very, very (did I say very) picky about his food, especially burrata. He's not bashful about sending it back if it's not up to par. Jayson's main dish was the scallops, another fave of his that he's often very picky about. He absolutely loved them. Even I had a bite and I'm not a huge scallops person. Delish. This dark radiant performance club is wonderful. My sister took me here to watch some of the performances. It was beautiful. Watching them. The food amazing. I had the scallops twice with the steak and chips with guacamole. Then I also had a blueberry drink. Don't remember the name but it did have liquor in it. And I love me some liquor.
