The performers are truly very talented - and just oozing with personality, charisma and wit. If you're familiar you know the brunch drill - prix fixe menu, choose from the selection. You have an option to enjoy bottomless mimosas (which we did) but I actually opted to just buy a couple of bottles of sparkling wine for the group since the mimosas are pre-batched and pretty sweet! The food is a-okay, but it's really about the show and the vibes more than anything else (and on that they always deliver!) Before this recent experience I had never even heard of the Chelsea Music Hall but I was glad to be…read moreparticipating in one of the two appearances by the legendary Punk band The Damned. My friend had gone the evening before and it would have helped if they told me it was a part of the massive Chelsea Market because I didn't know that and after a far too long train ride to get to the place I walked in and headed downstairs which is where the club is located. Visually the long bar is to your right when you get through the doors and the soundboard tech is to the left. In the back left are the restrooms for men and women and a communal sink to wash up. I didn't notice any gender neutral restrooms. There is also a small space there which the band was using as a merchandise area. Spatially speaking the club is what one would consider intimate in size. The stage up front had some simple dividers between the artist and the fans but no real barricade and since I was planning on doing some photography can say that there was no photo pit to stand in for a few numbers as is the standard. There are some couches on either side of the stage area and since I imagine other kinds of events happen here this might be more of a VIP section. That was not the case tonight but I saw some room and ensconced myself to it. It was too difficult to navigate to the front or stand behind the taller fans. Since I didn't order any drinks as I've been doing a bit of a sober break I cannot speak to the prices but they sure did have a stockpile of pretty much everything that I could see. It's NYC so it is likely going to be only so cheap and since the tickets for the event were about $80 I don't think you're getting a drink for five bucks. Someone asked me if this was the old Highline Ballroom and it is not I am afraid and as a matter of fact that space was empty the last time I passed through the area a couple of months ago. A shame since that was a good club and brought many artists to town. The size of the CMH seems to be just a wee bit smaller than the old Studio at Webster Hall space which was also located downstairs in that venue. Another good spot that was put to pasture. There was a WiFi to use but a staff person entered it for me which was nice but I did see a public feed as well. I will come back here again depending on the artist that decides to play here but who knows when that will happen. I will for sure be keeping a look out on their calendar and add any topical events of interest to my websites calendar. I've got to close with seeing a few negative comments about staff and can say that everyone I encountered during the show was friendly and helpful. I go to a lot of venues so I don't need to be false about this stuff.

Times Square has never been my favorite part of New York, but the Palladium (called the Best Buy Theater at the time when I went) was clean, well-run, and surprisingly fun, with an intimate energy that worked perfectly for a hip-hop show. The crowd was great, everyone seemed to be having a blast, and seeing three legends in a venue this size made for an unforgettable night.

They have been around the metal scene for a long time and still put on a crazy fun show. Just be aware if you're in the standing room pit area you will get soaked with all colors of fluid shooting out of character's orifices! There is a large standing room only area on the main floor, an elevated standing area behind that which we score a perfect spot along the railing to view the show, along with elevated seating behind that. Not the biggest venue but good sound and sightlines. Coat check available along with a bar selling overprices drinks.

Brought me right back to middle school pizza warmed up from the freezer, with sugary tomato sauce, rubbery cheese, and a dough that tasted like a saltine cracker. The service was the lowlight. They forgot my beer not once, but twice. I had to ask both times because I saw many tables around me order after me, then get served before me. Strange to see cocktails come out before a simple pour of a lager. They ended up never serving me the second beer. It was sad to see how much the servers struggled to keep up with things. I feel bad for the performers, they deserve a venue where the audience isn't going to get such awful service. But I definitely will not be coming back to this place, ever.

This performance of Cabaret was such an incredible experience! The August Wilson Theatre is currently housing the Kit Kat Club and features a round rotating stage in a delightfully intimate venue. From my vantage point, I couldn't spot a seat with a bad view. And the acoustics are amazing! As we entered, our phone cameras were stickered to block guests from taking photos during the performance. I willingly obliged, but was surprised to be reprimanded long after the show had ended & all the performers had left the stage. I did save my sticker & it lives on my laptop now. The pre-show performers were fascinating, and the musicians were equally talented. We splurged on FRONT ROW tables with the stage side dining and have zero regrets. We were literally inches from the performers! The amount of charcuterie served to us was egregious, and we appreciated the option to pack everything into takeout boxes for snacking later. Extra notes that may or may not be helpful: on our way to the theatre, walking up Broadway from 45th Street, my friend tripped & sprained her ankle, so we needed to take a Lyft as she couldn't continue walking. Luckily my husband was with us to help her limp through. Upon arriving at the August Wilson Theatre, we found the entry door for stage side dining wasn't very close to the box office, and my friend was too flustered to find her ticketing email, so I walked over to the box office. I only needed to give her name and our four tickets were printed quickly. Once inside, the theatre manager brought over some instant ice packs & medical tape for my friend's ankle to use during the show. I enjoyed this show SO MUCH. The August Wilson Theatre has been perfectly recreated into the Kit Kat Club! I definitely want to see Cabaret here again with the current cast, and also future casts.

But the sound was so loud, what they sang was garbled, making it difficult to understand and follow. "Do you get this?" I asked my friend. "I can't make out what they're saying!" she responded. So -- very unlike me -- we left during intermission. I don't want to malign the show. The script (from what I gathered) was clever and the performers, talented. The theater itself is a nice, informal off-Broadway venue: a bar in the lobby, comfortable seating with good views throughout. I'll give Asylum another try. I've noticed they feature some interesting productions. (I'm sorry I missed "Naked Magicians.") But for last night's experience, a regrettable three stars.

This place used to be one of my favorite spots in all of New York City. It was a safe space…read morewhenever I was feeling down, and a haven for theater kids and musical lovers who just wanted somewhere they could sing loudly, let loose, and be themselves. I mentioned in a previous review that I had a bad experience here a few months ago and noticed a shift in the energy. What once felt welcoming and communal had started to feel more "mean girl" and "you're not one of us." Last week, I decided to give it another chance because, as I said, I've made so many wonderful memories at this bar over the last decade. I was one of the people who showed up during the pandemic, when we were all sitting socially distanced and still somehow managing to create magic together. I still remember my friend singing his signature "You'll Be a Dentist" while everyone sat six feet apart, and the entire room cheering as if we were packed shoulder to shoulder. Those are the memories I cherished about this place. Unfortunately, after my most recent visit, I can confidently say I won't be coming back, and I can no longer recommend it to newcomers. In my opinion, it has become increasingly elitist, cliquey, and toxic. A brief example: I was sitting on a stool around the piano area. Anyone familiar with Marie's knows that some people around the piano take the experience very seriously, almost as if their Broadway career depends on it. I stepped away to get a drink, and when I returned, someone had taken my seat. No problem--I simply moved to another empty stool. A few minutes later, another patron approached me and said, "That's my seat. I was sitting there." I apologized and explained that someone had taken the stool I had originally been sitting in, but that I believed the seating was essentially first come, first served. People constantly get up, move around, grab drinks, or stand to sing, so it didn't seem like a big deal. It turned out the person who had taken my original seat was with his husband, and it also turned out they were close friends with much of the staff. Once he decided to make it an issue, staff members came over and immediately engaged with me as though I was the problem rather than attempting to de-escalate the situation or hear both sides. They simply took his side because they knew him. I found that incredibly unprofessional. One staff member in particular, Yvette, whom I've always been friendly with over the years despite not knowing personally, repeatedly told me, "I'm just checking on my friend." But that's exactly the problem. As staff, your responsibility is to check on all patrons equally. Just because your friend is upset doesn't automatically mean they're in the right, especially in an environment where alcohol is involved. This entire conflict was over a bar stool, which made the response feel especially unnecessary and immature. What this experience ultimately reinforced is my biggest criticism of Marie's Crisis: the staff does not seem equipped to handle even minor conflicts in an impartial or professional way. Because there is no security presence and because many longtime regulars appear to have close relationships with employees, some patrons seem emboldened to bully, pressure, or dismiss people they don't consider part of their circle. I've witnessed regulars telling people to "shut up" rather than politely reminding them of the etiquette around the piano, and instead of discouraging that behavior, it often feels tolerated or even encouraged. After nearly ten years of coming here, this was genuinely disappointing. I've had incredible nights, met wonderful people, and created memories I'll always treasure. But the atmosphere that once made this place feel special has changed dramatically for me. I can't support this bar anymore. If you're looking for a welcoming GAY bar to sing show tunes in NYC, I'd honestly recommend giving Uncle Charlie's or Townhouse a try instead.
