    Pan-Seared Georges Bank Scallops
    Elizabeth H.

A true delight in the Lancaster area!! The Greenfield Restaurant accommodated our very large party for a business dinner a few months ago. No flaws, and exceptional service. A classy, homey restaurant. Drinks- great! My gauge is always if a place knows how to make my drink signature- a dirty martini with Bombay Sapphire. No vermouth here to be found, it sipped lovingly!!! And for food, after many apps, entrees and desserts with all of our 14, I don't think there was a plate left uncleared. We had the upper, private dinner area. Our server was exceptional- attentive, timed check-ins and orders well taken and delivered. Food was paced appropriately and brought all together - for that many people and when a configuration of stairs is involved for kitchen and bar this is no small feat. For the group, much of the menu was tackled. No complaints whatsoever. Probably the unsung hero of apps was the house smoked salmon dip. Entree favorites were the pork schnitzel and scallops. Homemade spaetzle made those with the pork so happy. Thin, crispy, a beautiful plate with accompaniments. The scallops - Who doesn't love a meal with inspiration? Scallops.....and beech mushrooms! Give Me More!!! Delicious, quirky and unexpected. THIS will be readapted as inspiration. And dessert, I hardly ever eat dessert. But when hearing they had a salted caramel ice cream. Yes and yes! Perfect, creamy ending. Through consistency in service and flavorfulness in food The Greenfield Restaurant should be a Lancaster staple and deserves filled seats for a long time to come!!!

For appetizers we had the fresh calamari and Jumbo shrimp. for dinner we had the pan seared scallops George's Bank scallops and the grilled petite filet mignon For dessert we had a cream puff and creme brulee Everything was cooked to perfection. I don't like sea scallops but these scallops melted in your mouth and were awesome The service we had from the waitress was excellent. She kept on checking on us to see how we were doing. we had a gluten free requirement and she made sure the needs for it were met

Looks great but undercooked and tasteless Scottish Salmon

Our first time & last! Honestly, quite a disappointment! This restaurant was situated in a beautiful area. While quite lovely inside, especially the patio area, our experience was not pleasing to us at all and most importantly, our palates. First, the hostess was very welcoming and pleasant. She wished me a happy birthday as she seated us at our table. There was a card from the staff wishing me a happy bday which was a nice touch. We were seated 15 mins before our server Amy finally stopped by and took our drink orders. Although they were simply 2 waters & an iced tea, it took another good 15mins before she returned. Hubby observed that she was also servicing the downstairs area as well which would later explain why our service suffered. We ordered the Onion & "soup of the day" Mushroom soup. My (warm) onion soup was delicious while the (warm) mushroom was not impressive. Hubby referred to it as straight from the can. In fact, he said canned soup would have been better. Perhaps, adding fresh whole/slithers of mushroom would enhance its flavor and presentation. Our salads were fresh and tasty. Nothing fancy. We waited for a considerable amount of time before the (manager) delivered our entrees. The Scottish Salmon Filet over the bland gnocchi, (why gnocchi?‍), with broccolini for me. Linguini Seafood Pasta dish for hubby. This dish was so ridiculously small in portion, literally about a cup of pasta, unseared, tasteless (3) scallops, (2) shrimp, (4)small clams...for $29. Are you kidding me! And no offering of seasoning toppings parmesan cheese/red pepper) to enhance this tasteless creation. And to top it off, the dishes were barely warm and undercooked. And, who plates a fish dish without lemon? A surprised Amy flew by mins later after the manager dropped off our dishes and quickly left. I asked the other waitress if she could get Amy for us as our dishes were under-temperature and needed to be reheated. Look at the pic below and you can see it's not fully cooked. We waited for Amy to take our plates away & take our dessert order. We really wanted to try the pecan pie, hubs favorite. We sat for a good time before Amy dropped off the dessert menu, then we sat more waiting for her to come back to take the order. 10 mins flew by...okay, (another 15mins?) NO THANK YOU Amy! CHECK PLEASE!!! Guess what, lol...we never saw Amy again as it was no surprise....she must've been delayed, as the customers downstairs were more important to her than we were...we had to leave the check payment on the table....oh, on our way out, the manager thanked us for coming...Happy Birthday to me!!! Conclusion- A beautiful restaurant. Decent menu. (Needs seasoning adjustments) Service-I'm sure is better than we experienced...and definitely NOT worth the price....HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED!!!

I found this restaurant by chance while in Lancaster and looking for outdoor seating. I feel fortunate to have lucked upon this gem without realizing it is partially set in a 1700s home and also the chef studied in France and worked in the American White House for three sitting presidents. I do not understand how this place doesn't have five stars on Yelp. The food was phenomenal (and I say this living in NYC for 19 years with plenty of fantastic cuisine). Even the bread and butter was exceptional. Highly recommend, do not miss an opportunity to eat here!

Excellent food, atmosphere, & great service from the staff. We had an amazing time for Valentines Dinner, can't wait to come back and dine again.

Delightful! Beautiful patio. Drinks were excellent. We had a Manhattan and a type of sour old fashioned and loved both. Nice warm bread is complementary to start. Husband had halibut on gnocchi and said it was very good. I had a lobster tail which came with potatoes, vegetables and a salad all for $40 and it was a big tail. Loved it! Service was very good.

Cheese plate. Everything served with this was amazing! Date bread was so good!

The ambience was nice, the decor pleasant, the service was great and the food was exquisite! We had French onion soup, filet mignon, and the scallops dish. The soup was the best French onion soup I ever had! The filet mignon was cooked to order, the scallops were fresh and delicious. The only two things I would give a critique on were the cheesy scalloped potatoes and corn risotto. The taste of the potatoes was great but the presentation didn't quite match the elegance of the dish. The corn risotto had a bit of a flour taste as is the rue wasn't cooked thoroughly. Other than that, I would highly recommend this place for a special event or a romantic evening out. The night we went had a jazz trio and they were amazing! The singer was awesome!

When we were seated, we were given the prix fixe food menu but never provided with a drink menu. We were served water, but our waitress didn't ask if we'd like cocktails, wine, or any featured Valentine's drinks. For a special occasion dinner, that felt like a major oversight. The bigger issue, though, was the food. Several courses were noticeably undercooked and difficult to enjoy. The carrot salad had hard, undercooked carrots and a very bitter sauce that overwhelmed the dish. The grilled Badger Flame beets were also undercooked and had an unpleasant flavor. The beet risotto was firm and lacked the creamy consistency you expect from a properly prepared risotto. The halibut tasted overly fishy and seemed undercooked in the center. For $75 per person on Valentine's Day, we expected a polished, thoughtfully executed experience. Instead, the meal felt poorly prepared and not worth the price. It was an unsatisfying way to spend what should have been a special evening. The ambiance was very nice but the rest of the experience left a lot to be desired.

But awesome all the same! For how busy they were, the server was very attentive and very accommodating as we were yapping away and constantly not ready with our orders so kuddos for the team and putting up with us! I love the mystery beer concept, its not great beer, but being from DC at like $2 a can, I am not passing that up, ever. And a cheap beer with a burger is the perfect combo! On to the burger... I have heard that this is a great burger... and I have to conclude that I agree though it is reminiscent of a Big Mac - just way better ingredients - it has to be the sauce they put on it... Anyway, nice size patty, good amount of toppings and a quality bun (not too soft, not too thick, bread soaks up some of the juices but doesn't fall apart). The mussels were quite excellent as well. It was a Thai curry broth the night we were there and it was drinkable, like soup... we did ask for extra bread... enough said. I am going to take a minute too and praise their spirit free cocktails. THIS IS HOW THEY SHOULD BE MADE. They used bitters, tonics, etc to craft something that tasted like a cocktail but without alcohol which means they were not sickly sugary concoctions, but expertly crafted beverages. Just really great options. All that said though, their espresso martini was one of the worst I have had. Just skip that.

Naturally, I had already done my due diligence (read: stalked the menu for a full week) and had a game plan. At the top of my list? The deviled eggs and the Kale Caesar salad with salmon. The only problem...I absolutely did not need $40 worth of food for lunch. So I quietly spent the week putting "deviled egg energy" out into the Universe, hoping my lunch partner would suggest splitting them. Manifestation is real, people. I arrived around 12pm and found plenty of parking out back in Watershed's designated lot, which is clearly labeled--a good thing, because parking in that area looks like it could get competitive if you're not paying attention. We had made a 12:15pm reservation (Monday lunch felt safe, but why risk it?), and our table on the enclosed patio was ready when we arrived. It was the perfect setup--sunny and bright, but still warm enough to be comfortable on a chilly day. The vibe was great, and our server was even better--friendly, attentive, and consistently checking in without being overbearing. Then it was time to order. I let my lunch partner go first and waited... "Do you want to try the deviled eggs as an appetizer?" Are you kidding me?!. YES. Yes, I did! We ordered the deviled eggs ($11) to share, and I followed through with my Kale Caesar salad ($15) topped with seared salmon (+$13), officially completing my week-long menu-stalking mission. The deviled eggs came out FAST, and in my excitement, I completely forgot to take a picture--which tells you everything you need to know. Each egg was topped with a cube of candied bacon that absolutely stole the show. Sweet, savory, and just the right texture to complement the creamy filling. We made quick work of all four--excellent start to the meal! Not long after, our lunches arrived, and my salad? Gorgeous. Like, actually exciting to look at. I dug in immediately and it delivered. The mix of shaved brussels sprouts, kale, and romaine gave it great texture, the dressing was well-balanced, and the red onion didn't overpower the rest of the flavors. But my favorite part? The garlic parmesan crouton crumble. No chasing rogue croutons around the plate--just perfectly distributed crunch in every bite. Genius! The portion size was generous, too--I made it through about half before calling it and boxing the rest for dinner later. By the time we were wrapping up, the enclosed patio had filled up significantly, which tells me this is a popular lunch spot--and for good reason. The food is solid, the atmosphere is great, and the service was spot on. That said...$40 for deviled eggs, a salad and water is a bit steep for an everyday lunch. For me, this feels more like a "treat yourself," client meeting, or special occasion kind of place rather than a regular rotation spot. Would I come back? Absolutely. Would I be casually popping in every week? Probably not. But those deviled eggs? Totally worth manifesting!

Introduction:…read more Representing 2018 in alphabet series, O is for On Orange. The letter O only has 5 of the 8 possible years represented in the alphabet series. Interestingly, 2 of them are in Lancaster County, PA. This was prior to my parents moving to Lancaster in 2021. In March 2018, my girlfriend of that time & I took a day trip to Lancaster. I lived in Montgomery County, Maryland (near DC) at the time, and we were meeting up with a friend who was living in New Jersey kind of in the middle. We agreed to meet at On Orange at 12 PM on that Sunday, March 25 since we were driving from far away, and I think they were doing a day trip too, but possible they stayed a night in town, not sure. Also, On Orange closes at 1 PM too, so even more reason to be punctual. My g/f of then was notoriously late & took a long time to get ready. She was taking too long to get ready, and I knew we needed to leave if we even had a chance of making it on time. After a while I said I don't want to do this, but I will leave without you & meet my friend (& his girlfriend). I started the car and texted you have 1 minute to come out, and if you aren't out, I'm leaving without you. My timer reached 0, and I slowly was driving off, but I saw her shuffling with her coat and what have you leaving, so I waited. We got in the car, and I rushed off. If that weren't bad enough, my g/f said we needed to stop at her bank to get cash. Of course, there was none right within route, but saw a location right off I-83 in northern MD, Hunt Valley, but we wasted more time to get off the freeway, for her to go to her ATM, & get back on the freeway when we were running significantly late. I said we are running significantly late as it is, so why are we wasting more time. She claimed in case there was something she wanted to buy in Lancaster, but that was not the primary purpose, but I'll get to that at the end. I was panicking on the significant late, and that the restaurant closes at 1, and I drove above 100 mph at times on I-70, which I think was the only time I've ever gone that fast on 70, and maybe only 4 times ever in my life reaching that speed. Experience with the Restaurant: This is street parking around here, which was free meters on Sunday. We got a decent parking spot a block away. We walked in at 12:50 PM, which was 50 minutes LATE and 10 minutes before On Orange's closing time of 1 PM. My friend & his girlfriend were already done eating. He said that they had their stomach set for eating at 12, and there was pressure to order since it's not a huge place and pretty busy. I was annoyed with my friend for not waiting for us, but I get it because let's be honest, my g/f fault on that one. Server was cordial, and my g/f & I quickly ordered. Food came out quickly. We ate quickly, and my friend & his g/f watching us eat. Food was delicious, and they were quick, but to be fair, they were closing in 10 minutes, so they were motivated to get out of there. I got a pancake & egg dish as I recall. This was a top notch brunch. In spite of the negative experience of being so late because of my g/f, the experience at the restaurant was excellent. Conclusion: After brunch, we looked around downtown, Amish Farm (see my 5-star review of them written in April 2018), etc. and was overall a nice day with the 3 of them albeit very cold. After we left, I took the back road from I-83 all the way back to Germantown, MD where she lived to see something different and to save a little gas too since it's pretty direct going that way. My g/f was complaining about it taking so long getting back. I knew she was meeting up with a friend that night. But what I later realized, she wanted to stop at an ATM that morning really because she needed cash to pay that friend for cannabis that night. So, she disrespected everyone's time for this. I guess on a positive at least she wasn't cheating on me with that guy and really was just for pot. In conclusion, I thought On Orange was top notch, and they were accommodating to our time schedules.

The setting is absolutely beautiful. Their outdoor terrace overlooks a scenic garden area that looks like it might even host weddings--it's that picturesque. The ambiance is peaceful, charming, and ideal for a relaxing weekend meal, whether you've just finished a bike ride or are simply looking for a quiet dining spot in Marietta. The menu had a lot of fresh, well-crafted options, and the cocktail list was fun and inventive. I tried the lavender lemon drop, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well the lavender complemented the classic citrusy flavor--an elegant twist on a traditional drink. For dinner, I went with the jalapeño cheddar burger, which was flavorful, juicy, and made with noticeably fresh ingredients. The fries were crisp and satisfying, while my mom and sister-in-law each opted for different sandwiches paired with house salads. They raved about the house-made vinaigrette, which had a fresh, tangy balance. We also started with the whipped feta dip and gouda mac and cheese--both were delicious. The feta was creamy and flavorful, and the mac had a rich, smoky bite to it. Our Entrees looked so delicious that I forgot to snap a photo beforehand. Service was excellent. Our waitress was knowledgeable about both the food and drink menus, and her suggestions were spot on. In terms of value, I was really impressed. With so many places these days serving tiny portions at high prices, Railroad House Inn stands out as a restaurant that delivers quality, fresh ingredients, and generous portions at a fair price. All in all, this was a five-star experience. Great food, beautiful location, warm service--I'd highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area, especially after enjoying the nearby Northwest Lancaster County River Trail.
