Beautiful restaurant in a historic building and it was decorated nicely for Christmas. Our server was very informative and checked on us at appropriate intervals. Our party of 4 ordered 3 appetizers: the cheese board, the short rib eggrolls, and the New England clam chowder. The clam chowder had wonderful flavors, but did seem to be lacking in actual clam meat. The PA Preferred cheese board was a nice selection of soft and hard cheeses and paired nicely with the honey, fruit and bread. The egg rolls were excellent and I would have loved to have had an entree that was based around the short rib as it was that good! I ordered the grilled NY strip as my entree. The dauphine potatoes were wonderful with a crisp top and gooey interior. My steak, however, was a bit disappointing. It was cooked to the requested medium-rare temperature but did not have much flavor on it's own. The bordelaise sauce was very good and had a nice acid balance. The steak was just not seasoned as well as you'd hope. There was also a lot of sinew that was difficult to work around. My husband ordered the scallops on special that evening. The scallops were cooked to a perfect level, but the rice had bits that were hard & undercooked. I was expecting top-level food as the head chef/owner served not one, but three US Presidents. The cocktails and wine selection were a high point. We had a regular old fashioned and a blackberry margarita that were absolutely divine! A true delight in the Lancaster area!! The Greenfield Restaurant accommodated our very large party for a business dinner a few months ago. No flaws, and exceptional service. A classy, homey restaurant. Drinks- great! My gauge is always if a place knows how to make my drink signature- a dirty martini with Bombay Sapphire. No vermouth here to be found, it sipped lovingly!!! And for food, after many apps, entrees and desserts with all of our 14, I don't think there was a plate left uncleared. We had the upper, private dinner area. Our server was exceptional- attentive, timed check-ins and orders well taken and delivered. Food was paced appropriately and brought all together - for that many people and when a configuration of stairs is involved for kitchen and bar this is no small feat. For the group, much of the menu was tackled. No complaints whatsoever. Probably the unsung hero of apps was the house smoked salmon dip. Entree favorites were the pork schnitzel and scallops. Homemade spaetzle made those with the pork so happy. Thin, crispy, a beautiful plate with accompaniments. The scallops - Who doesn't love a meal with inspiration? Scallops.....and beech mushrooms! Also, my wife and our daughter had the small caesar salad, which is an upgrade from the small house salad, which is free. The caesar salad upgrade was $8 per salad, which is outrageous for an upgrade from a free small salad to a small caesar. Our server was Amy, she was efficient but cold, not a really friendly person. I went here with a group of lady friends for lunch and we had a great time. Our server, Zac, was attentive and fun! I chose the crock of onion soup and it was flavorful but I found it was quite salty I also had the chicken and cashew salad which had sliced chicken breast and cashews over very fresh greens with a delicious dressing. Other diners had quiche, which they said was delicious, and a variety of salads and everyone was pleased with their choices. I think the salad portion was smaller than I've had in the past when I've ordered it. I guess that's not unusual in this post pandemic era. Drinks were good and desserts were very good too. Our first time & last! Honestly, quite a disappointment! This restaurant was situated in a beautiful area. While quite lovely inside, especially the patio area, our experience was not pleasing to us at all and most importantly, our palates. First, the hostess was very welcoming and pleasant. She wished me a happy birthday as she seated us at our table. There was a card from the staff wishing me a happy bday which was a nice touch. We were seated 15 mins before our server Amy finally stopped by and took our drink orders. Although they were simply 2 waters & an iced tea, it took another good 15mins before she returned. Hubby observed that she was also servicing the downstairs area as well which would later explain why our service suffered. We ordered the Onion & "soup of the day" Mushroom soup. My (warm) onion soup was delicious while the (warm) mushroom was not impressive. Hubby referred to it as straight from the can. In fact, he said canned soup would have been better. Perhaps, adding fresh whole/slithers of mushroom would enhance its flavor and presentation. Our salads were fresh and tasty. Nothing fancy. We waited for a considerable amount of time before the (manager) delivered our entrees. The Scottish Salmon Filet over the bland gnocchi, (why gnocchi?‍), with broccolini for me. Linguini Seafood Pasta dish for hubby. This dish was so ridiculously small in portion, literally about a cup of pasta, unseared, tasteless (3) scallops, (2) shrimp, (4)small clams...for $29. Are you kidding me! And no offering of seasoning toppings parmesan cheese/red pepper) to enhance this tasteless creation. And to top it off, the dishes were barely warm and undercooked. And, who plates a fish dish without lemon? A surprised Amy flew by mins later after the manager dropped off our dishes and quickly left. I asked the other waitress if she could get Amy for us as our dishes were under-temperature and needed to be reheated. Look at the pic below and you can see it's not fully cooked. We waited for Amy to take our plates away & take our dessert order. We really wanted to try the pecan pie, hubs favorite. We sat for a good time before Amy dropped off the dessert menu, then we sat more waiting for her to come back to take the order. 10 mins flew by...okay, (another 15mins?) NO THANK YOU Amy! CHECK PLEASE!!! Guess what, lol...we never saw Amy again as it was no surprise....she must've been delayed, as the customers downstairs were more important to her than we were...we had to leave the check payment on the table....oh, on our way out, the manager thanked us for coming...Happy Birthday to me!!! Conclusion- A beautiful restaurant. Decent menu. I found this restaurant by chance while in Lancaster and looking for outdoor seating. I feel fortunate to have lucked upon this gem without realizing it is partially set in a 1700s home and also the chef studied in France and worked in the American White House for three sitting presidents. I do not understand how this place doesn't have five stars on Yelp. The food was phenomenal (and I say this living in NYC for 19 years with plenty of fantastic cuisine). The soup was the best French onion soup I ever had! The filet mignon was cooked to order, the scallops were fresh and delicious. The only two things I would give a critique on were the cheesy scalloped potatoes and corn risotto. The taste of the potatoes was great but the presentation didn't quite match the elegance of the dish. The corn risotto had a bit of a flour taste as is the rue wasn't cooked thoroughly. My boss recommended this place, so my husband opted to book our anniversary dinner here. We were so excited to try it. It's a beautiful place inside and out. The hostess was friendly and gave us the option to sit inside or out. We opted to sit outside since it was a beautiful night. Our server was incredibly nice and VERY helpful in guiding us through the menu. He was quick to get us everything we needed without having to ask. The wine was incredibly cold, which was refreshing. The drinks came quick. We started with the calamari, which was cooked perfectly. I hate when it's chewy but this was nice and crunchy. The flavors were excellent and I loved the dipping sauce. We also opted to try the cheeseboard and WOWZAAA!! So good. Everything tasted amazing. I would have doubled it up and ate it for dinner. I ordered the twin lobster tails, which were cooked perfectly and I was able to get them off the tail easily. The potatoes were excellent. However, the veggies were not cooked well and had zero seasoning. My husband and I shared the cheesecake and it was delicious! We loved the fruit accompaniments. Just ate at Greenfield Restaurant in Lancaster Pa. I have enjoyed many meals here but my dinner was a real disappointment tonight. I ate at the bar and Persilla was a gracious bartender.......but was not a good server. After ordering their filet mignon I had to make a special request for bread and after that another request for a plate to put my bread and knife on. You would think that a server would have that figured that out. I was also disappointed in the quality of the steak. Not very tender and way too salty. And I like my food with a touch of salt. We walked into the restaurant, yes, without a reservation but it was only 4:15pm, intending to get a snack and drinks at the cozy bar especially nice at Christmas. Two people in the entry area didn't look at us, acknowledge us or tell us that the restaurant isn't open until 4:30. We started walking into the restaurant At that point the youngster behind the podium told us the restaurant doesn't open until 4:30. So, we left and waited in the car until 4:30 walked back in and they tried to seat us in the main dining room. I said we did not want to tie up a table there since we just wanted drinks and a snack. The hostess then said, "well that would have been good to know when you came in." With an attitude. At that point my youngest daughter had had enough of the rudeness and said as she left, every one here has been rude. I tried to explain to the hostess why she was upset and she said, "I don't think we want anyone like that in here anyway." To which I said, "That was rude.!" And left. read more

This experience was like stepping back in time to the late 70's, maybe early 80's. The decor is nice: sort of Traditional Lancaster County upper middle nod to farmhouse/colonial. The chewing gum under the chairs when we went to pull our chairs in was just gross. The hostess and servers were very polite and did their jobs professionally. However, the service was SO slow. We were at our table 10-15 minutes before our server even greeted us! The food was good enough. The soups were enjoyable, the bread was better than average, the salad was unremarkable and kind of tired. The scallops were nice and the schnitzel was fine. There was nothing that stood out as exceptional and worth the long - very, very long - wait between courses. The desserts were good enough but nothing special one couldn't get at any other restaurant. The food is, well, adequate, for the price point. The ambience was NOT for the under 70 crowd. Way too loud keyboard and drum track with 40 year old lounge tunes was not what we expected for a Saturday evening in December. It was too loud to have a nice conversation, and added nothing. The whole experience felt dated and a bit disappointing. There is nothing specifically "bad", it was just generic, out of date, and took over 2.5 hours. We were tucked into a corner and the menus were out of our reach as she placed them the end of the table. The waitress ran over and apologized and said "she's new" . Obviously they forgot to train her to do the only 2 things she had to do which was show us to the table and hand us the menus after we are seated!. This was very telling as to what was to come. The head waitress did everything at 60 miles an hour. Her insincerity was obvious as every question had a "delicious, right" ending. Despite the two of us requesting to have a nice relaxing meal We both felt terribly rushed throughout the meal. She ran thru the specials in 2 seconds and was running from one end of the place to the other throughout our meal. Our nice relaxing meal lasted less than 45 minutes in what is supposed to be a 4 star place. The food looked pretty but almost everything we ate needed more seasoning. The beet salad "appetizer" was a meal in itself , but was tasteless with huge beets that should have been cut to an edible size. My wife's salmon was pretty but needed lots of seasoning and was "just OK". May I say, due to my job, I was lucky that I literally ate in more than a thousand 4 star restaurants in dozens of states and 3 different countries during my 50 year career. This is a very charming Inn and restaurant. The grounds are beautiful! We ordered a cheese board which we felt could have been fresher. The bread they served was dry and the accompanying sides were also not fresh. My husband ordered the seafood linguini and I ordered the filet mignon. It came with a scalloped potato side that wasn't cooked. It was cold. The meal was fair. Our server was pleasant and as good as he could be as he had a lot of tables. My husband had called the restaurant prior to ask if they could bring out a dessert at the end of the meal or do anything special as it was my birthday and they said that they don't do anything there. There was a piano player who's name was Larry. He was very pleasant and introduced himself to everyone table to table before he began to play. It was a nice touch. We had eaten nice lunches here several times before. This time, however was a disappointment. I ordered fish and chips, expecting the usual "English-style" deep-fried battered fish and french fries. However, I was served two thin breaded fish fillets (ala Mrs. Paul's or Gorton's) with roasted russet thick potato wedges. I should have requested to substitute french fried potatoes. My partner ordered a chicken salad with cashews. The cashews were ground so finely, that they were difficult to pick up on a fork and only two cherry tomatoes sliced in half. Service was excellent and the "clubby" ambience is why we return. Hopefully, we will return again, but we know two selections we will not order again. read more

This is a review for their catering business. They were, by far, the absolute worst wedding caterer i've ever experienced. and it's not even close - this place is the worst. I recently attended a wedding that was supposed to be catered by this company. "Supposed to." Yeah, i mean, technically they kinda did something, but i'd hardly call it "catering." First off, they showed up over two hours late. yeah, that's exactly what the bride and groom want to be dealing with right before their wedding. the wedding party (myself included) tried to keep tabs on it, but all phone calls to them went unanswered. they eventually showed up, as we were working out backup options, like how many pizzas it would take to feed everyone, or is there takeout chinese anywhere? Next, because they showed up late, dinner was late. most people didn't notice because the venue forced them to extend the cocktail hour, but uh, they came horribly stocked for cocktail hour. There were two signature drinks, and apparently they didn't bring enough ingredients for everyone to have one. Also went up to them during cocktail hour to ask if they could give me some lemonade for a couple kids who were there. The answer was a resounding, "No." They actually said no to lemonade for children. Tried having a bridesmaid go up and ask, also a solid no. They didn't have enough to spare. "What about water?" Also no. This bartender was a real piece of work. This ticked off the wedding coordinator to no end, who sent his own staff to a gas station for water, lemonade, and other essentials because the caterer was too damn lazy to do it themselves. You might be asking, why go to the bar for lemonade, surely there were other sources of non-alcoholic drinks? Well, there was supposed to be. The caterer was paid to provide lemonade and iced tea, but they didn't. Not at the reception, not during dinner, not after dinner. Then dinner (you can see where this is going). Well, they ran out of food. It wasn't a large wedding, either, only about 100 people, but they ran out of both entrees. This wasn't a served plate, it was a buffet style. They ran out of one dish very early, then the other one a bit later. They also ran out of bread. A handful of people only had vegetables for dinner (peas/carrots/green beans). Food that was actually provided was horrendously overcooked and lacked any flavor at all. This place is allegedly run by a well-established chef, but any idiot could've cooked this food better than they did. Guess they cooked everything under high++ heat to make up for being late. One might say the food needed some salt, but it was already so dry, i would've been afraid to pull any more moisture out of it. To call the food, "arid," would be generous. Afterwards, they tried to close the bar at 8:30P instead of 10P like they were paid to do, but the wedding venue manager put them in line on that one. They also put out one pot of coffee, which was gone pretty much instantaneously, leaving decaf which was also finished off. Oh, and through all of this, no napkins. The caterer didn't provide napkins. They forgot. Overall, this is easily, without a doubt, by far, the absolute worst wedding caterer i've seen in my life. They should be ashamed of themselves and not only refund what they were paid, but compensate the bride/groom for the trouble they caused. An absolute disgrace. read more
