I stopped by here yesterday with my family for dinner. We had ridden the Strasburg Railroad earlier in the day and were looking for a place to eat when I fired up Yelp and found the Tavern by Spring House Brewing. It is located on East Main Street in downtown Strasburg. The inside consists of a large main room with an L shaped bar, a number of TVs, and then a second dining room off to the side. Since no one was seated in the second room and we had twin four year olds with us, we chose that space. Unfortunately the TV in that room was broken, so we were not able to watch the Steelers game that was on. Aside from that, the room itself had a cozy and slightly eclectic feel. There was a decorated Christmas tree lit up in the corner near the staircase which gave the space a warm seasonal vibe. The walls were decorated with brewery signs and beer themed banners, and a bright yellow decorative mantel stood out against the darker wall colors. Overall it felt casual and welcoming and worked well for a family dinner. For dinner on this evening I went with the Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak while my wife chose the K Town Mac Bowl. The menu described my wife's dish as three cheese cavatappi pasta with smoked pork slaw, Korean BBQ drizzle, sesame seeds, and scallions. My sandwich was described as smoked chicken, American cheese, buffalo sauce, gorgonzola, onion frizzles, ranch drizzle, and a hoagie roll. I thought my sandwich ended up being good, especially since it was chock full of chicken. The hoagie roll was toasted and buttered nicely and added a good crunch, which the onion frizzles helped reinforce. The gorgonzola added a nice pungent pop of flavor. While I did get some buffalo flavor, I definitely could have used more. Because of that, the sandwich was a little on the drier side despite having cheese, buffalo sauce, and ranch drizzle. My fries were seasoned and had a nice texture, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. As I often do whenever I visit a new brewery, I decided to go with a flight here. At Spring House Brewing, a flight consists of four beers and I chose the Cucumber Salamander, Backroads Shadows, Daily Planet, and Love and Rockets. The Love and Rockets ended up getting mixed up and I was instead served Grease the Poles. I started with the Cucumber Salamander, which is a sour. It was a bit tart right from the start and that carried through to the finish, with a little extra pucker at the end. Up next was Backroads Shadows, a lager with a crisp, clean start before the malts came through on the finish. This felt like a really good easy drinking beer. Third was Daily Planet, an IPA that had citrus up front followed by a solid hop presence that carried through the finish. Last was Grease the Poles, a pale lager that started off very clean before finishing with some lighter hop notes. Out of the bunch, the Cucumber Salamander was definitely my favorite. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Our food and drinks were good, and I would be interested in trying more of their beers. read more

Service was lacking. Waitress seemed annoyed and not happy. Wait was not long for a table but waited quite awhile to be greeted. Looked like there was only 2 servers for the entire place which was busy. My husband liked his chili, so that's the two star review. He said it had a lot of flavor. I had the brisket sandwich which was very small for the price with not a lot of meat. The meat had no flavor at all. Was not served with the au ju, which I had to ask for. My family stopped by this place on our way to Hershey. Did not have any expectation but it turned out to be a pleasant experience. The restaurant, silverware, and restroom were clean. The "bartender" if that is his actual job title, aka, the guy sluggishly sitting on his personal cell phone behind the bar was rude, standoffish, disrespectful, unprofessional, and a disgrace as the face of a facility. Demanded people move when they had no idea what tables were available to them. Made my mother-in-law who has back problems move tables back that were pushed together as we were expecting more people. Then overheard him say to another group to "move" from a table because they can't sit there as there was a sign up front saying "please seat yourself." The food was subpar and overpriced. This place needs "Bar Rescue" ASAP! These employees need a good humbling and the owner needs a WAKE UP CALL. Go somewhere else. Went here with another family tonight. We arrived first. I asked for a table for 8. The waitress said "our cooks walked out- we can't serve food anymore." I said what!? She said "the cooks left, sorry." So I walked out to my car, saw the family we were going out with, and told them they didn't have any cooks. They decided to go in anyway, and ask for a table for 8. THE WAITRESS SAT THEM IMMEDIATELY AND GAVE THEM MENUS! My family went back in and sat down at the table. I went up to the waitress and said "I thought you said the cooks left!?" She fumbled on her words a bit, but said the bartender went back there to cook. She was clearly lying. While at our table, we heard her turn away other families for various different reasons. We were actually laughing. They told a family that there would he a 1.5 hour wait. Another lie. Food was not good. Drinks were gross. Just literally puked my brains out. I should have listened to my gut- something seemed off about this place and now I have such bad stomach pains and am puking. I stopped in with my daughter after taking my grandsons on a ride on the Strausburg Train. Cute place with two levels and a bar. The small upper level is up just a few steps and had music playing. It seemed very loud to me, so we sat on the first level which still seemed loud, but not as loud. The bartender was also the server and seemed to handle both jobs well. He did accidentally put my order in wrong, but he realized it before he brought it to me, readily admitted it, and I received my meal after a short wait. It was no big deal. My daughter and I were surprised and pleased that they had a meatless burger on the menu! We ordered different versions of them and both were good. My daughter had a spicy version and I had a more typical version. The server recommended the house aioli and was right to do so, it was very good. The kids had chicken nuggets and French fries and loved their meals. My daughter and I both tried the nuggets and they were really good. Definitely in the top 5 of any nugget I've ever had. Good family friendly brewery in downtown Strasburg. We found a dive in park spot along main street and called ahead to ensure a reserved table. If you stop in on a Sunday you'll be able to order from their brunch menu. The seating options were plentiful and included high top tables, bar seating and tables. The staff was friendly and seated us quickly. Our server was prompt and great with the kids. The kids ordered the "kids breakfast" - pancake, scrambled eggs and choice of meat for $7. It was sizeable, shareable and a great deal for the money. My mom and wife had the Main Street - two eggs your way, home fries and a choice of bacon, sausage or turkey sausage for $10. They both enjoyed their choice and said everything was fresh. I had the Brisket Breakfast Bowl - Smoked brisket, three eggs scrambled with cheddar, topped with onion frizzles and firecracker sauce over home fries at $13. It was a huge meal and made me skip lunch later! I was hoping for more smoke from the brisket. Hot sauce was applied to help give more fire to the firecracker sauce, but overall it was a good mix of flavors. Drink wise the wife approved of the espresso martini at $11. I had a lustral IPA - average California style IPA, and a casked Affordable Love - Russian Imperial Stout that was just above average. The bathrooms were clean and sizeable which helped with kids. They have four packs for take out so I snagged a couple for sharing with friends. Overall you can't go wrong with a visit to Spring House. I had the Firestarter Smash burger with a side salad. The burger was so flavorful! Jalapeños, cheese, and those crispy onion thingees perfect. Honey mustard dressing on the spring greens salad gave it a bit of a tang. Loved it! My husband got the Turkey Avo Wrap. He liked it and brought half home, it was so big. Fries were light and crispy. Was driving through Strasburg when I saw a new and welcome surprise -- a Spring House location! Conveniently located next to one of our go-to pizza joints. This past fall and more recently while central PA was experiencing its first false spring of the year, my daughter and I got to enjoy eating on the patio out back. It's small, so the seating is limited, but it was a great experience away from Main Street AND with enough room for our pup to join us. The food was good - we ordered bar staples like fried pickles, onion rings, and a scotch egg to share as starters. I also got Korean BBQ chicken tenders (daughter ate my fries) that were SO good that I wasn't heartbroken when I was too full to order dessert. Spring House has a solid line up of year-rounders (Commander Salamander if you like sours, Dailey Planet if you're into IPAs) and a great rotation of seasonal and specialty craft brews. Hubs LOVES the Brains for Zombies (Pumpkin seasonal) and I was a huge fan of Thirst for Adventure. Find what you like best by getting a flight before selecting a pint to enjoy! Service was solid even though our poor waitress was slammed and having to run food and drinks outside isn't always easy. We sat at a high top by the bar and were waited on by a very efficient friendly and accommodating waiter named Mike. I opted for an espresso martini and husband got an old fashioned. Yay! A dog friendly restaurant in Lancaster County! We take a visit to Amish Country every year and have recently started bringing our pup, but finding dog friendly restaurants (even outdoors) has been difficult. We were so welcomed here at Tavern! We have been to their dog friendly patio at the main brewery in the past, so we were so excited to see this open. They have two outdoor tables out front and a small patio in the back. The back area didn't have the best "view" but the tables were nice and the service was great! We ordered a slew of apps and some beers. Everything was great! Charming quaint place on the main drag in Historic Strasburg. Nicely decorated, cool vibe. It was one of two breweries that was located 15 minutes from our Airbnb. Suggested this place because I was familiar with their Hazel st. location in downtown Lancaster & their beer which I love. I got a flight for $10 and it was very enjoyable. My food was extremely disappointing. I ordered the fish and chips which was the daily special for $15. Normally, it's $21. They should be ashamed of themselves for charging that much for frozen products. At the Bulls Head Tavern in Lititz you can get a fresh piece of fish and fresh cut fries for 13 bucks. It came with a side of slaw that was just red, cabbage and mayo, No seasonings whatsoever. The tartar sauce was green and tasted nothing like it should. My friend got the brisket French dip which was supposed to be a hoagie, but really was a Panini. It was OK nothing special. My other buddy got the chicken cheesesteak, which was good, but the flavors of the sauces were so intense that I could only eat a piece about 2 inches and couldn't take it anymore. Do you really need to add Gorgonzola, buffalo and ranch to a sandwich? He got it with Garlic Parmesan fries, which were tasty even though they were frozen. For appetizers, we had sprouts, which were good and the cauliflower bites which weren't. Mostly breading with very little cauliflower inside. I'm assuming they were frozen also. The peach chipotle barbecue sauce was OK. Service was great and as mentioned before it really is a nice little place. Go a four pack of Fest beer to go, which was really nice. They would really have to up their food game for me to return and I don't see that happening anytime in the future. read more
