I havent been here for awhile and I didn't know about the little bakery market next door. There I picked up some of Phillips famous cupcakes always a treat. Now the restaurant service left much to be desired. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable but scarce. After at least 15 minutes she finally approached the table saying she thought we wanted to catch up. How nice. But we are here to eat lunch. Here's a tip. If I say please give us some time to chat then come back in 15 minutes, THEN do that. My eggs and grits bowl was good and the turkey sausage patties were inedible. Also for some reason they always serve a mix of sweet and white potatoes. I do not eat sweet potatoes ever. Dana I beg you stop putting them in everything from soup to entrees. The salad bowl is an odd shape and difficult to manage. No place to set a utensil on the lip. The vibe is industrial cool and very spacious. More attentive service and some food changes would be better. read more

Before lunch I went over to the bakery store side. I walked away with two cookies and 6 cupcakes. The cupcakes were not the best. My vanilla cupcake was hard, and the icing for all were not too sweet. I prefer sweet icing. These were more of a whipped icing. But, that's just preference. Each cupcake was $4.50, which I think was spot on. They were bigger in size. I don't think I'll be getting anything else from the bakery at this time. There are so many cute, fun items in the store. I plan to stop back to get a few things I saw. Once I was done at the bakery store side I headed over for lunch. I was seated at a booth, chair combo seating. The booth was really comfortable. Our waiter was really good. He was attentive made sure our drinks were filled. He answered any questions we had. My starter was the Chesapeake Bay crab dip. That dip was one of the best I have had! Melty cheese, with wonderful flavor! It came out piping hot a d was paired with crispy yet soft pita rounds. I opted for the BBQ Brisket on a sweet potato bun. The bun was really delicious. I was happy the waiter informed me that this was not a hand held sandwich, but more of a fork and knife kind of dish. My side was a salad. The lemon dressing was amazing. My friend also had the same dressing and she raved about it as well. Over I'd like to return and try out more dishes and maybe some of their breakfast items I've heard good things about the Brunswick stew as well . Had a wonderful brunch with a friend and everything from the delicious food, to the kind and attentive service, and comfortable seating were spot on. Food: The chicken and waffles were so good! The potato hash that included sweet potatoes made it all that yummy and I love the style of waffles they use, and the chicken was nice and tender! My friend had the veggie frittata and enjoyed it as well. Service: Our waitress we so nice and friendly and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. This was our first time at the new location for Greygoose. We love the open floor plan and decor. It's very spacious and clean. Our Server Sam was very nice. We were a little disappointed with the seating. We were a party of eight and they took us to two separate tables 2 people in our party had to sit away from the main group. We were not even asked if we minded splitting up we were just led to two separate tables. It was a little awkward. We also requested a specific Server, Sadie. We were told that we could not have Sadie as she was on another party. We did see other parties arrive in groups of eight and 10 these parties were all set together, not separated. The food was good. But they were auctioning it off and some people got the wrong food. We had the mimosa bottle service, which was very nice. My husband had the shrimp and grits, I had the fried chicken Benedict, my niece! had the breakfast burrito, my nephew had the stuffed French toast, and my other friend had a sandwich, but it was the wrong sandwich and he ate it anyway. The baby had the scrambled eggs. We were all pretty much happy with our food. We will go back again next time we hope we get Sadie. read more

I visited this past Saturday with a friend. I was very impressed with the location and the ambience. It is very spacious, comfortable, trendy, and clean. Our server, Trevor was a diamond in the rough. He was absolutely amazing. He was attentive, made suggestions on the menu and offered exceptional Customer Service. He went above and beyond with care and a consistent smile l, which made us feel even that much more comfortable. Our meals arrived in a timely manner. They were hot and ready to go. The sweet potato pancakes were beyond delicious. The breakfast bowl was also yummy, and the grits were perfectly made. The seasoning was outstanding. We will definitely be visiting again as we were made to feel comfortable and as if we were amongst family. That is an atmosphere that has been cultivated by the leadership, which is hard to find these days. If I could give a 10 star rating, I would. Another bonus is the bakery and store that's attached. Visited today March 25th for lunch on our 20th anniversary! The service with Sadie was fabulous! We ordered the Shrimp & Grits and the Sweet Potato Pancakes. We have had both of those dishes multiple times before but today it was not as tasty. The cream sauce on the shrimp & grits was runny and milky, only a few pieces of sausage and apparently this was the last time i can get the shrimp on the side ( I am allergic to shell fish). The sweet potato pancakes also were not as flavorful. The food today was several steps down in comparison to all our previous visits. Sadie's attention to customer service and cucumber lemonade would be the reason we would return!! read more

My daughters treated me to brunch here today for Mother's day, when they made the reservation they were not aware that it was a buffet only. When you go on their website the menu change is not advertised on their home page, you have to click on events to see this information, so this review is not based on their normal menu. With that being said my very first recommendation is, changes like this should 100% be advertised on the home page of your website, especially if the normal menu will not be available. The restaurant is located off Mallory St, so there is only street parking available. The restaurant was very clean, bright and spacious inside. The wait staff was very friendly and checked on us throughout our visit. The Mother's day buffet was $45/pp plus 20% gratuity. On their website it state parties of 6 or more may be subject to 20% automatic gratuity, but we were a party of 3 and it was still included. The buffet included: an assortment of pastries & bagels, a house salad tossed in a vinaigrette, tortellini pasta salad, cucumber & tomato salad, fruit salad, scrambled eggs with cheese, potato casserole, pre-made/frozen French toast sticks, some kind of chicken (didn't look appetizing), ham, pork sausage links, turkey sausage patties, salmon cakes, tomato & spinach quiche and biscuits & gravy. My first complaint in reference to the buffet in my opinion it was over priced for the options offered, our bill for 3 people was $196 after tax & automatic gratuity. We could have went to Golden Corral for half the price for the same food offering. To justify a $45/pp price there should have been some kind of premium meat or seafood included. The menu online listed shrimp and grits but that was not a buffet item along with a few other missing items advertised. My second complaint is, there was absolutely no labeling on the food. After trying to guess what each item was, I finally asked my daughter to find a staff members due to food allergies and restrictions. The overall taste of the food was basic. The texture of the salmon cake was off and mushy. My favorite item was the house salad. I honesty was not impressed and nothing stood out enough to make me want to venture through the tunnel from Virginia beach to come back here. read more

We found this 45 year old restaurant this past Sunday. We had a spectacular brunch. The Southern fried chicken Benedict was fabulous. My wife had the country fried chicken steak. The staff knows the menu and work together like a close family. They have a bakery and coffee shop next door if you arrive early. They open at 10:00am on Sunday. The restaurant is open for dinner 6 days a week and they have trivia night on Tuesday. We will be returning next weekend. Great menu and truly kind and professional service. read more

We just had to try this place. Everyone has been speaking about it. When we walked in, we were immediately welcomed, the place was quaint, and the staff were super friendly. The appetizers were great, but the main dishes were a bit underwhelming. The biscuit was big and flat and tasted just okay. The potatoes that came on the side could not be replaced with another side, and they were not the best. The eggs tasted and looked like powder eggs. I really wanted to try this place. What a great concept! The space is absolutely beautiful! You can tell the owners put so much thought and effort into every detail, from the floors and tables to the art and lighting. It's open-concept yet still incredibly cozy, and we were able to enjoy our conversation without overhearing other diners. Even the bathrooms are pristine, and I love the layout so there's no wait for the women's room. We were greeted right away by the friendliest white-haired gentleman (wish I could remember his name!), and our server, Trevor, was wonderful, warm, attentive, and spot-on with his recommendations. We started with the Southern Sampler and Firecracker Fried Oysters, both fantastic. For mains, we had the Mother Clicker, the steak, and the fried chicken. (Special requests for no sour cream or cheese did not happen, son is lactose intolerant(allergic to dairy), he had to pick apart his burrito.) The staff was friendly and working their rears off. We came on a Sunday before church got out. The place filled up fast. A group was having a function in the semi private room. The staff were doing their best, but they were running around and you just can't give the best service with limited staff and a restaurant with so much seating. I would have had a better time and been more comfortable if the noise level was not so high. The building is very open and loud, they need a way to buffer the noise. The bar is open for brunch/breakfast and those who partook were very loud, echoing through the room. The bathrooms are cute and eclectic. My kids got a kick out of them. read more

I'm a work traveler and have been here twice. The food and service have been awesome both times. The first time I had an Old Fashioned and the Fried Chicken that came with cheesy grits and sautéed greens. Yum! I also took back a chocolate cupcake. The second time was yesterday and I had another Old Fashioned that was muddled and Fried Green Tomatoes to start. I was tempted to get the chicken again but chose the Shrimp and Grits instead. The Grey Goose USED to be one of my favorite restaurants in Hampton, but I'm taking them off my list. I used to go there when they were at their previous location in downtown Hampton. Their current location is more spacious so that was nice. I went out to dinner last night with friends to celebrate their birthdays. Looking forward to ordering my favorite dish, ("The Londoner") I discovered it was now named "Market to Market". This included a ham biscuit, choice of crab/corn chowder or brunswick stew, salad, and a desert. When asked what type of dressing I wanted with my salad, I inquired about their previous salad that already came with a mayo-based pineapple-type dressing, shredded lettuce, a pineapple ring with a cherry in the middle and pear slices. The waitress didn't know what I was talking about. I was looking forward to that salad. I ordered the crab-corn chowder. When it came, it was yellow with bacon on top and sweet potatoes in it. It was just okay. It didn't really taste like crab at all. The PREVIOUS chowder was amazing! I was sad they changed the recipe. For dessert, I chose the banana bread pudding. It was very dense, somewhat rubbery, and not very sweet. I commented to my friend that it needed more caramel sauce (to make it taste better) It also had something dark grey in it (I assume that was probably over-ripe bananas?) and I steered clear of eating that part of it. Also, they used to have really amazing tea, but this tea was bland and ordinary. I guess I expected the food and drink to be amazing like it used to be. I don't know if they changed chefs or what happened because I was so disappointed. I won't be going back. read more

At last minute my friend and I decided to go to brunch for my birthday and we saw this place online and decided to give it a shot. The vibe when we first walked in was not welcoming at all. The hostess asked if we had a reservation and she appeared annoyed when we said no. We were the only people there, they just opened. The service was great. Our waitress was very sweet, knew the menu and was very attentive. The Turkey BLT was delicious! My friend said her Country Fried Steak tasted like it was previously frozen. But everything else was yummy. The mimosa and blood Mary are one of the best I have found in Hampton. Will give dinner a shot, hopefully the hostess isn't as annoyed next time. read more

The menu on line is not what they have. 1st the menu was paper and dirty stained. Because we were 2 people they would not sit us were we wanted to. Wanted oyster Rockefeller they were not available I got pork belly it was dry. I've been for brunch and lunch/dinner...brunch is definitely their sweet spot for me. I had a party of about 9...all of us ordered something different (dinner) all of us were underwhelmed. It was just ok, great atmosphere, good variety on the menu but taste-wise just ok...brunch was amazing lunch/dinner just ehh for me. The bakery was also a disappointment cookies and cupcakes looked amazing but were dry. It's a quaint spot and I'll go back but only when brunch is being served. read more

We had a nice weekend late lunch here. The inside decor was very cute, and it was not very crowded at 2:00. Our trip started with a visit to the bakery, where we purchased an eclair and a homemade Pop-Tart style dessert and an eclair. The raspberry Pop Tart was good, with a nice rich crust to offset the sweetness of the filling and the frosting, but the eclair was the star. It was stuffed with an excellent pastry creme, in a good shell, with a thick topping of not too sweet chocolate on top. Exactly what I wanted in an Eclair. For the lunch menu, there were some creative Benedicts, flatbreads and sandwiches. We had the crab dip as an appetizer, which was nice. The fried chicken eggs benedict was great, although it did lack the desired runny egg yolks. The turkey BLT was large and looked good. The brie flatbread was excellent, with a nice balance of sweet and salty toppings. Overall, a nice place with good food, worth visiting again. There was street parking in front, and a parking lot behind with plenty of available parking on the weekend, at least in February. Also, check out the cool comic store next door! read more

Came in for brunch on Easter Sunday. I'm from out of town visiting. Read the good reviews so I thought I'd give it a chance. I was underwhelmed by the food. It was very bland with no flavor. I ordered the breakfast biscuit with egg, cheese, and turkey sausage I also had a side of home style potatoes. The actual biscuit was the only good part it was soft and buttery. Everything required salt, pepper, and some kind of sauce. There was just no flavor. The service was great our server was very attentive. The food was just a total miss. read more

I just had the BEST oysters! The batter was well seasoned and crispy, the inside melted. Sooooo good! The fried green tomatoes were perfect especially with the topping. The greens were spicy and vinegary, seasoned to perfection. I did have to add a little salt to the chicken but the flavor was great. The flatbread pizza was so so. I went for the first time to a Bridal Shower. The people were great and so was the food. It was simple but delicious . The baked chicken breast was seasoned well and was moist tender. I suggested The Grey Goose Kitchen and Bakery (10 South Mallory, Phoebus, VA) to two friends for our luncheon today, but unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. We first stopped at the bakery, where most of the items we wanted were out of stock, and the selection overall was very limited. Moving to the dining area, one friend ordered iced tea with lemon but was told the restaurant doesn't have lemons--only lemon packets. The tea never arrived at the table, and she ended up canceling it mid-meal. Service was inattentive throughout. I had to ask for a fork, and even though I requested lemon packets, they were never brought. The food itself is overpriced for what you receive. Portions are very small--especially the chowder, which our server even acknowledged was not a typical serving size compared to other restaurants. On top of that, no substitutions are allowed, further limiting options. Overall, the combination of poor value, inattentive service, and limited choices makes this a restaurant I cannot recommend. If you're dining in Phoebus, I suggest looking elsewhere. read more

I kind of don't want to review this place because the people seemed nice. The service was good she was attentive without being too pushy or forgetful. As for ambiance it felt like an old neighborhood restaurant with some colorful pillows on the bench seats. The food was horrible. We stated with poutine and soup of the day. The gravy had a nice flavor, however there was very little meat and the dusting of the goat cheese added little to the dish. Additionally, I didn't like the sweet potato fries the gravy was placed on. The fries weren't good and not particularly hot. The soup of the day was colorful and had lots of vegetables in it but no seasoning- my party described it was like eating at a nursing home. I purchased a chicken and waffle. The chicken wasn't seasoned so there was no savory flavor and the waffle was thick and forgettable. The syrup added sweet and sticky elements to the bland entree. One of my party ordered a salad with grilled chicken but she felt the chicken breast wasn't fully cooked. Bottom line we spent almost $100 and everyone left hungry. read more

Went here for brunch today! The place has a nice atmosphere and almost feels like a cafe. You walk in and there's a display of pastries/baked goods you can buy, but just right behind this display is the actual seating area. It can feel a bit crammed. There's a lot of big furniture in such a small space, but the ambiance is still nice and the staff are nice as well. Not sure if we just got unlucky but the brunch food was kinda hit or miss. We ordered the crab dip for appetizer and that was too rich and salty. Then we ordered our brunch and my partner got the ham, egg, and pretzel which was kind of underwhelming. The description of that dish promised "a giant pretzel", which was why my bf ordered it, but it actually is just a smushed up pretzel bun (if it even was a pretzel at all, we're actually not sure) with ham and egg inside and it tasted like a regular toasted bun. The potatoes that came with both of our dishes were just slightly underdone too. However, the drinks were great and they have really cool options for cocktails/mixed drinks! Service was pretty slow for brunch today that even after our plates were cleared, we sat waiting a while unsure if we should pay out front or expect a check. Eventually my boyfriend got up and paid at the front since we never got our check! It turns out you do get your check on the table. Our server was just extremely busy! read more
