We stepped inside The old Barn and were greeted by the owner and winemaker himself, Brett. The barn was so cute, and honest. And Brett was so clearly passionate about his wines. It isn't often that you find this personal connection with a winery. Many of them are corporate today, and most owners have employees in the tasting room and are not there on a Saturday afternoon. That alone set Boaventura apart from most wineries. The wines were excellent! There wasn't one bad one in the ten that we tasted. That's pretty amazing, even for fantastically epic famous wineries. And to find that in Livermore Valley is even more awesome. I will absolutely return to Boaventura and I recommend it as a must-stop to all of my wine-loving friends. This is also a place where I would take guests so they could get a feel for a small, family-owned and operated winery. I loved it!

The Barn was the best fit for us. Things to note about the Barn: -There is an old wooden bar that you can move depending on where you want it -250 person capacity -There is a dusty smell to the Barn as it's older, with candles we didn't notice it -The Barn isn't super clean, there is a little bit of dust and cobwebs, but it is a barn afterall -The bathrooms are pretty minimalistic, the men's room actually doesn't have a door -There are big white panels on the indoor walls of the Barn which look great with uplighting -They make you have security, but it wasn't prohibitive or even noticeable -There is plenty of parking -They don't allow kegs -It is better for a night reception, as the night makes the Barn's flaws less noticeable -There is a minimal kitchen for a catering company to use -We rented chairs, tables, and a dance floor, rather than using what came with the Barn -They don't clean, so make sure you arrange for cleanup Overall it was perfect for our wedding, I just don't think it would be perfect for everyone's wedding. The LARPD staff were very easy to work with and we got our full deposit refunded without a problem. I'd recommend the Barn hands down for someone looking for rustic on a budget and at night :). I had about 160 +/- guests and if you aren't hiring anyone I'd suggest to add about 4 hrs. before the start to setup all those tables and chairs that is provided by the venue. Great service before, during and after the event, however there were 2 issues I encountered. 1- we got double-booked hence the party being on Friday but we did get compensated for it. 2- i was told no alcohol and the security guards were like really?! In the end though because of the rainy weather it was meant to be because of everyone's safety. If you are creative this is the place for you (personally I'm not). I'm use to walking into hotel banquet rooms and then off to have fun so unless you hire a staff or have a great support system like me this is a good choice. We embraced the walls. Rather than covering it up our awesome DJ lighted it up did then popped it with a monogram. Overall yea I'd rent here again. The kitchen was great and we just added a little bathroom necessity basket for the guests to use. Have guests bring a jacket because it can get cold but since we were all dancing and having fun we warmed up quick!

However, I do have two quick pieces of feedback: 1) I wish the prices were a bit more affordable. While a slight price increase after a remodel is understandable, dropping them just a bit would make the course much more approachable for regulars. 2) I had an uncomfortable encounter while practicing recently. A staff member approached me to say there was a 10-ball limit on the chipping green. When I told him I wasn't aware and asked if I had missed a rule post, he pointed to a sign between the range and the green that read, "Don't remove range balls from the range" and said "That sign clearly says the rules." Then he counted the 15 (personal) balls I brought and said "you're over the limit." I was caught off-guard by his tone, and left feeling frustrated by that experience. If there is a strict ball limit for personal property on the chipping green, it should be clearly published somewhere. That would be my suggestion so others do not encounter a similar experience.

Asked one of the guys who worked there which direction the first tee was it was almost like he was annoyed to answer our question. He replied look at the sign it says it right there. Ok.... We teed offed the first hole and for whatever reason ended up on the wrong side of the cart path. As we approached our balls in the fairway we noticed there was no opening for us to drive our carts onto the fairway. We later learned we should have gone the other way because there wasn't clear signage and we ended up driving through "wildlife" or whatever the call it. Literally just dead grass.. We get to our ball and as we hit we notice the Marshall was there waiting for us. He asks us to come over and immediately tells us if you guys don't want to follow the rules you guys don't have to play here. He proceeds to tell us the starter specially told you not to drive through it and if you guys don't follow rules we will be kicked off the course. We tried to first explain ourselves and without even letting us finish he says I don't care what you have to say. I'm tired of people not following the rules. He then proceeds to tell us that he was retired PD. At this point I am just shocked at how he is talking to us like we committed a serious crime. Finally we get to tell him that we went up the wrong side of the cart path and that we didn't see an opening for us to drive through. At this point he calms down and says ok I see what you mean. Tells us that there are rules here and we shouldn't drive through any wildlife. Honestly just the two interactions alone just ruined our day because I couldn't believe how we were being treated. We completely accepted the fact we were in the wrong and apologized to the Marshall but the fact he treated us like that was bullshit. As we drove away he even asked us where we were from. Why the fuck does that even matter? For how much they charge on this course it is definitely not worth it. Thank god we were NCGA members and didn't pay full price. I will stick to going back to Wente and play there for a better experience. Never playing at poppy again
