I ordered a glass of sparkling rose and while he gave me the last pour of an old bottle (completely flat), he acknowledged it was the last pour of the old bottle and opened a new bottle in front of us- that sparkling rose was crisp and fresh and light. Also- another thing to note- this winery doesn't allow outside food. Their menu is a lot more extensive (and expensive) than other wineries. Not a huge deal for us as this was our second stop and the other two allowed food so we brought and ate our picnic there!

I had emailed them beforehand with many questions about the event, and the person I was corresponding with was very responsive. We went back and forth a bit, so I really appreciated how helpful and communicative they were leading up to the event. One of the things I liked most was that the event felt pretty no-fuss and relaxed. We had looked at a few other wineries in the area that were hosting events for Father's Day, but some of them had really strict policies for their special event like charging an exorbitant amount just to reserve a table, PLUS requiring a minimum 3 bottle purchase and limiting the number of people per table. It all felt a little too controlled. This place was much more laid-back, which I really appreciated. No reservations were needed, no minimum bottle purchase, and no headcount limit/table. There was also a car show going on, which was free to attend. It was nice to walk around and check out the classic cars, although it was very hot this day too. They had some local vendors selling arts and crafts, shaved ice, coffee, and snacks, so there was plenty to walk around and check out. It was hot out, so the shaved ice was really tasty! The live music was also really nice and added to the atmosphere. For food, you could either dine at the restaurant or get the BBQ being offered on the lawn. The BBQ wasn't actually cooked on the lawn, it was already packaged in to-go boxes, brought over from the restaurant by golf cart, and kept warm in insulated containers. The BBQ was **VERY delicious!** I believe the meal was around $35, and it fed 2 people well. We had leftovers. It came with BBQ chicken, potato salad, cornbread, a slice of watermelon, and a cookie. You could also add tri-tip, which we did. Everything was really flavorful. The chicken was juicy and flavorful, and the tri-tip was just as good, juicy and nicely seasoned. The sides were also very good. And I love cornbread, so I was definitely happy about that! The one area I think could use some improvement was the payment process for the BBQ. Since I was paying by card, they didn't have a card reader at the BBQ setup. I was told they didn't have one, which I found a little odd since they had a wine table set up on the same lawn where people were able to pay by card. Because of that, they had to take my card back to the restaurant, which, if you're familiar with the layout of the property, is a bit of a walk. Some people were waiting there for the worker to return with their card so they could sign the receipt before taking their food. I decided I didn't want to wait around because I was ready to eat, so I gave them my card, took the food, and went to our table. The worker later came and found me at the table, returned my card, and had me sign the receipt there, which worked out fine. Still, I think having another card reader specifically for the BBQ area would make the process much easier and more convenient. The wine table on the lawn also seemed to have a bit of a slow start. From what my family noticed, the event had already started and they weren't quite ready to go yet, so the staff seemed a little flustered at first. My family purchased a bottle to enjoy at our table. Seating was open and first come, first served, although there were some tables with reserved signs on them, possibly for wine club members? We arrived at the start of the event, and we ended up getting a great table in the shade, so no complaints there. Better than the reserved tables too b/c those had umbrellas but the sun kept moving so they had to keep moving the umbrella accordingly. You could also bring your own lawn chairs, which was something I had specifically asked about in my emails. We brought ours just in case, but ended up not needing them, so they stayed in the car. One of my questions was regarding the food options and they did state that outside food was not allowed, which I completely understand since they were offering food on-site. However, I did notice several families at tables near us who had brought their own food and coolers. That was a little frustrating to see because, had we known it wasn't really being enforced, we probably would have brought some of our own food and wine as well. Despite a few things that could be improved, overall it was a really nice, laid-back Father's Day outing with the family. I liked that there was plenty going on: the car show, vendors, live music, food, and wine without the event feeling overly structured or restrictive. The relaxed atmosphere was probably my favorite part, and the BBQ was definitely a highlight!

I chose to buy a bottle of their Malbec which hit my flavor profile perfectly. They made sure the water station Was always full which was greatly appreciated. Staff kept checking on all the tables to make sure we were enjoying and had what we needed. There was a food truck and cookie cart available to everyone and they allowed you to bring food in. This event was a great way to pre game for the 4th. WTR schedules events for their customers and members that invite community and what better way than to share with a glass of outstanding wine. An unforgettable birthday celebration! I recently hosted an…read moreearly evening birthday party for roughly 75 guests at Stampede in Livermore on a Tuesday afternoon. The owner was incredibly gracious and offered us the entire facility for our private use on a day they are normally closed. The party kicked off perfectly with delicious appetizers--the bruschetta and spinach dip with chips were fantastic. Next up was line dancing led by Rhonda, whose instructions were so clear that both seasoned dancers and complete novices had an absolute blast learning new moves. After working up an appetite, we enjoyed a flawless and plentiful buffet dinner featuring juicy Tri-Tip sandwiches, roasted corn salad, chili, and thick fried potatoes. Stampede were also happy to provide veggie burgers upon request. The Stampede staff went above and beyond all night--they helped us set up a slideshow presentation on the monitors, gave great advice on timing our celebratory toast, and seamlessly cut the cake for service. Everyone on the team was helpful, attentive, and professional. I highly recommend Stampede for any private event!

Another reason to never go back and tell our large social circle how bad the owner is at her job. I said there was almost a fight. A guy was being pushed and getting the F-word yelled at him, by an actual drunk and disorderly man that was completely ignored by you (and you were literally the bartender serving them) and your security, which were instead policing the women's bathroom line that had 20-30 women waiting constantly all night. Kicking a woman out and withholding the ability to get her phone, her purse, her money, or notify anyone in her party that you threw her out on the street is unsafe and actually illegal. And you defend this? Everyone I have talked to who had negative experiences at this place said that the owner is the problem on every one. Calling a customer drunk and disorderly, which was completely false, and then calling them entitled is right on par with the other negative reviews on this place, which are plenty.

We have been able to try various tasting menus and as a group we really like their peacock zin, cuvee dray, and the sparkling. Recently we tried the wine train experience which worked out quite well since it was actually pretty sunny after a rainy November week. As we were celebrating some birthdays they decorated a chalkboard sign with our names and welcomed us with some sparkling. The guide warned us that there would be plenty of pours and some snacks at our final stop, so we grabbed a pack of crackers and some meat to tide us over. The train is really cute with barrel seats. However, be warned that it is quite a bumpy ride, so you may want to finish what's in your glass before it starts. It can also get pretty warm in the train, as we ended up not needing our jackets. We got to taste some of the grapes off the vines and many photo shoot opportunities as our guide told us some fun history tidbits. We ended at the water tower where there was more wine and a snack plate waiting for us. The decor in the water tower was really cute and festive for fall. The minimum for the train is 8 paid spots and the maximum is 14. The trolley could definitely comfortably fit that many. Their merch is really cute, and someone almost always find something to go home with. One last note, we love their French onion dip as well and look forward to having that each visit.

It was a hot day, and Brent promptly brought over a carafe of water, which we appreciated. The winery is intimate, but it has a lot of character. On the west side, you can overlook the vineyards, which was lovely. Since it was a hot day, not many people were out there on that side, so we had that side of the house to ourselves. The tasting included 6 wines, a mix of whites and reds. Since I'm more partial to whites, I asked if I could swap some of the reds for more whites instead, and Brent happily accommodated me. He was kind and friendly throughout. I also love bubbles, and at first he mentioned he didn't have an open bottle, but I said I would still buy it anyways. But later he found one and poured me some of their sparkling, it was delicious! I should've bought 2!! He asked us what we wanted to re-visit and my husband picked the Fat Boy. We picked up a bottle of that one too. I will be coming back for another sparkling or two! Overall, a great experience thanks to Brent. Next time we'll definitely bring some snacks to enjoy alongside the tasting!

Nostalgic Summer Afternoon Under the Trees What a…read morespectacular way to spend a warm summer afternoon! My wife and I stopped by Mitchell Katz on a 100-degree day, but sitting outdoors under the deep shade of their trees with a gentle breeze keeping us cool was incredibly comfortable. It actually transported me right back to the magic of school summer breaks growing up in India. The wine flight itself was an absolute treat. We started with the "Sunshine" Sauvignon Blanc, which was the perfect, crisp welcome pour (honestly, it would make a stellar candidate for a sparkling wine!). While the '22 "Wet My Lips" Rosé was just okay for us, the reds and the sweet finish completely blew us away: * '22 Casa de Vinas Merlot: This completely redefined what a Merlot should be. Incredible spicy richness with a beautiful, lingering finish. * '21 "Fat Boy" Cabernet: Lush, velvety, sweet, and tangy with a gorgeous hint of spice in the aroma. It is exactly the bold, unapologetic "Fat Boy" Cabernet Mitchell envisioned. (I was in heaven, though my wife found it a bit on the sour/tangy side!) * '21 Livermore Cabernet: A crowd-pleaser that my wife highly approved of--it carried a touch more sweetness to perfectly balance out that vibrant acidity. * '22 Mt Meanao Late Harvest Zinfandel: Liquid summer. Reminded us of plum, pluot, and honey married with sweet orange marmalade, leaving a gorgeous, spicy fruit finish that just stayed with you. If you are looking for an unpretentious, high-character boutique winery with phenomenal reds and a relaxing outdoor vibe, Mitchell Katz is a gem. This was hands-down the best summer late afternoon we've spent in the valley!
