The people, however, are extremely friendly and helpful. We decided within a hour of setting up that this was not for us, but had already driven 7 hours. We found a much better facility the next day, but had to wait until the following weekend to move. We kept to ourselves, and the blinds down. Warning. They do not give refunds. It wasn't until after they had taken payment for the month, that they informed us that the pool was out of order at least until end of summer, the gate partially worked and was transitioning to a new system, the grill area out of order. We never even bothered to go to the laundry facilities, but I would not get hopes too high. We were warned not to walk at night or in the surrounding area. This is a trailer park filled with friendly, down on their luck people. It is not a place for vacationers or even business travelers.

There's a patio deck overlooking the marina/docks on the river, its old and definitely could use some attention, maybe a little facelift, and even some music? We were going to pull into a riverfront site but the ones on the end were the only ones open, and the grass was covered with so much duck poop - BAD! We chose a site across from them instead which was perfect! No duck poop there... As beautiful as it is to see all the duck's congregating there on the grass on the ridge, it truly is a disgusting mess. Still, it's a beautiful place and I'd recommend camping here.

Recently stayed here working 10 hours away from home. Here's what happened:…read more We rented three cabins for one week- they tried increasing the rate to $500 when we got there to take a look, but talked them back down. They charge different amounts depending on the individual... "different prices for different reasons" they said. My card was charged for the two cabins I was paying for on that Sunday. That Thursday, I asked if they would honor their "discounted" rate if they were to stay for another week. They said yes and CHARGED MY CARD AGAIN BEFORE THE FIRST WEEK WAS EVEN UP! Without even knowing for sure if we were staying another week or not. So they charged my card for over $1,700 total without authorizing it with me first...not to mention that I was only paying for two of those cabins and the other cabin was in someone else's name and on that person's card NOT MINE! At the one week point one of our guys chatted with a cabin neighbor about the deal they had worked out with us and told her to talk to the manager to see if they could work something out with her. Well, that's when the drama began- the ladies began calling our guys very derogatory names and told us we had to leave that day. They almost refused to reimburse us for the unauthorized charges on our account. They just kept saying how much of an inconvenience this was to them that they had to clean the cabins and reimburse the money... if they have a problem cleaning the cabins, they need to consider switching professions...or maybe the swindling is getting them by... I don't know. And what about the inconvenience to us? They took all of our money out of the account, made me overdrawn, and then we had to move to another hotel with NO MONEY because of them overcharging my account! They supposedly reimbursed me for one charge of $700 plus dollars and another charge or almost $300...giving me receipts. My bank account is showing only one reimbursement charge for the $700, but not the other almost $300 charge, which, by the way has been charged to the other person's debit card already. So, these ladies have charged two people's cards for the same amount for the same cabin! Thievery! I tried calling them yesterday and the lady said she was at Home Depot (when we called the office number...how does that work? Can you carry a landline with you around town??? Right!) and she'd call me back in 20 minutes. I've has tried calling several times and cannot get them to answer the telephone at all now! They owe me almost $300 that was charged to my card AND charged to another employee's card as well for his cabin. I was reading some reviews online (wish I would've done it before hand) and another poster had stated that these women abuse credit card charges...beware... it's not the first time they've done this to someone and I'm sure it's not the last. Nonetheless, it is an unnceccesary stress and unneeded drama... Something needs to be done about unscrupulous business persons with no regard for the working class people who need every penny they have. Apparantly they are the only ones deserving of the money... We will be filing fraudulant charges against them next week if they still refuse to answer the telephone or reimburse us for the money. The cabins are nice, the location is so-so, but PLEASE do your homework people! Read the reviews before you stay somewhere to avoid any hassles like this one!

This review is not for the campground, as there seems to be no direct profile for the Lake area…read moreitself. This is more for the water/lake access. We came here on a Sunday around 9:30am and met up with some friends. Like how they have a large parking area and it's extremely close to working restrooms and the walk from the parking lot to the water is very close. The lake access area is primarily coarse/rough rocks and sand. Make sure to bring your water shoes. Upon arriving there were so many geese. Heads up, if you go in the morning the geese come and there are tons of geese poop everywhere! Minus a star for this. It was extremely gross. But overall the area is a great spot for a fun relaxing lake day. There is a $12 parking fee. Cash or contactless payment works. There are park rangers that patrol around and are VERY strict about alcohol (and trust me they are literally looking at guests areas for any open alcohol) . They give a warning, and make you dump it out and second time they catch you get fined.

But this review is about some more recent experiences. I've been camping at Beals since I was 14. I made core memories here. I'll always remember my brother picking up a dewy leaf in the morning and yelling, "Look Jen, real Mountain Dew!" (We are from the Mojave Desert.) A few months back, I saw a sign at Beals saying they were hiring camp hosts, so I put in an application. I know this park better than anyone, most of the good pics on Google are by me, and it would be very convenient for me to stay here for April. Since I had no luck getting hired as a camp host for April (because I start my next paid job in May, and am only available to volunteer for one month at this time), I decided to try to get a reservation. My reservecalifornia account was completely locked out. I drove to the park in person this morning. I said I wanted to stay as many nights as possible in the same site. This is so that I can maximize my time taking care of business and still have time left over to hike and cycle the American River Bike Trail, which is one of my favorite things in the world to do. The camp host informed me quite rudely that he would absolutely not do this for me. I would have to come back every day at 3pm. I asked him why, and he said it's because they get a lot of transients. But this rule doesn't stop transients from camping here. It only makes their life harder by forcing them to check in in person every day and never knowing whether they'll have the same site from night to night. For a woman camping alone, this feels terrorizing. Why can't I reserve three nights on any of the many sites that are currently available? I asked the camp host if there was anywhere I could do this in person. He lied and said no. After being angry for a minute or two, it occurred to me to drive out to the field office and ask in person if they would do this as an accommodation for my disability. But the field office was closed today. Homeless people pay for their campsites-- they are paying customers just like any other campers-- and are trying to camp legally. Folsom Lake SRA is intentionally trying to make that harder just to be cruel, because the park management just feels icky about the fact that homeless people often use parks as temporary relatively safe places to stay. Although it is technically not illegal to discriminate against people for being homeless, it certainly feels like it should be. The majority of homeless people have mental illness or other protected characteristics-- so much so that discrimination against homeless feels like it's actually thinly veiled discrimination against mental illness, a history of incarceration, etc. This policy makes no sense at all because sites have to be reserved on the website at least 2 days in advance, but the kiosk is not selling sites 2 days out. This means a lot of sites are literally impossible to book based on silly rules that the park management specifically invented for the purpose of being cruel to homeless people. The job of park management is supposed to be to make the park as accessible as possible and as enjoyable as possible for everyone, regardless of protected characteristics. It's so disappointing that Folsom Lake SRA is prioritizing cruelty over accessibility.
