I am happy to recommend this company. We made an appointment for an estimate. Tam came punctually as scheduled and spent a good deal of time explaining the counter re-grouting process. We accepted his bid and Austin came out to do the work. Austin was very professional and accomplished the work in a timely fashion and left the kitchen sparkling clean. The next morning we noticed an area that had been missed. We called Tam who then sent Austin right back to finish the missing section. Afterwards Austin re-sealed the entire job. Tam Pham's crew regrouted our master shower bath in October of 2014 (I still have the e-receipt with the "308 Sheridan Dr" address). I don't recall Tam having ever come out but I spoke to him over the phone. The attached photos show the state of my grout today. We wipe down our shower walls after each use so that there is hardly any water on the surface. About 70% of the grout is still in good shape but 30% of it deteriorated badly at various heights in different spots. This suggests that there was inconsistency in how the gaps were prepped and filled. I'll leave it up to reviewers to decide whether a regrout job should deteriorate this much after almost six years. read more

I had a great experience with this company. After moving into a new home, we had several things that we wanted redone. Hoang came out to see what we wanted done, so that he could give us an estimate. It did take a little while for him to get back to us with the quote, but I am not bothered by that. Tam and Austin came out and spent an entire work day cleaning and sealing tile floors and fixing poorly done caulking jobs in showers/tubs and around sinks. They were very professional. They explained everything they were going to do before doing it and they were friendly. I am hopeful that their work will last. Only time will tell, but for now I am very satisfied with their service. read more

I did a fair amount of research & received one other estimate before I decided to go with The Grout Expert. Tam came to our house & thoroughly explained the work that would be done. After living here almost twenty years there was a fair amount of wear & tear on the grout & tile. A crew of four worked all day renewing our grout & tile in our kitchen, bathrooms, & laundry room. Very disappointed in the grout installation. We needed moldy caulking and cracked grout to be redone. The caulking is fine but the grout is poorly done, very messy job--the grout is flowing over the lines onto the tiles. Should have been easy to wipe the grout off the tile. Also, cleaning the shower, my brush was able to dislodge some grout so it's not a hard grout. Almost $800 and a lousy job. Hoang is very nice but the quality of his employee's work is bad. read more

In 10/2013 I hired Hoang owner of Bay General and the Grout expert for a bathroom remodel. He came recommended by a friend that has a good business reputation. They warn me that he is not cheap but he has good customer service. First year after bathroom was done we noticed the linear shower stall slope wasn't steep enough. Thereafter water didn't run down the backup linear drain either. Fast forward he keeps blaming on hair clog etc... And every six months or so we have to call him to fix the water overflow issue. We start to see water stain and leak into bathroom pocket door, when we can't close the door and it must be removed, then the entire wall between pocket door has water damage. Finally he blamed the water overflow issue on earth movement, shower head with too much water pressure. Then he told us 5 years after that this design is not good because if he makes the slope steep enough for water to run down the drain and meet the code then the shower floor won't look good. This doesn't make any sense at all. In May this year I have to stop using the bathroom and after so many promises to stop by and take a serious Look at this issue, he said I will fix this time for sure only to find out that it costs me 2500.00 plus I have to buy new tiles and door. After looking at his proposal it seems to me that he is not going to address the drainage issue. It is obvious that under the tiles he didn't build a new drainage for linear drain which locate against the wall instead he used the old round drainage in the middle Of the shower stall and create some type of slope for water to run from the linear drain to old pipe. My point is that I trusted him to do right by us and he cheated and treat us like dummy. Once we hired people to break the shower floor tiles, we learn that he used street cement underneath and sure enough he didn't do the drainage by code. We have pictures that speak thousand words. I even share them with him and ask him for his thought, he just text back and said I did my best and it was working the first year. So I asked him how can you pass the inspection? Of course he didn't answer. Then I went to the permit center trying to pull the drawing that he charged me for 500.00. Well it turned out he never submit any drawing because he listed the project cost under 10K. When the total project was 35K material and labor. By the time I saw the actual permit, it was submitted 2 years later 10/2015 with a pending note that the inspector never came to my house. " NO PERMIT WAS ON SITE TO SIGN OFF, IF CONTRACTOR BRINGS IN PERMIT OK TO SIGN OFF" I wish there is a native 5 stars option to describe how unethical the owner is. Please don't be fool by his smile and empty promises. The good news is I have all paper trails and pictures to expose his work to the bureau. read more

Not a long lasting work. I can see this place, Grout Expert, has many high rating. But take a closer look; EVERYONE of those ratings is based on recently completed work. My review is 3 years AFTER the work has been done. I hired him to regrout my shower. The old grout was intact but there was fair amount of mildew especially on the sides. His worker removed the grout and applied new grout. After three years, this is the result: 1) Mildew. We agreed that his worker would use mildew resistant grout. I know mildew resistant grout exists and works because my father-in-law has it and he hasn't had any mildew since 2007 even though he keeps his shower in bad shape. First, when he was applying the grout, I examined the container and it was NOT mildew resistant. He first claimed that this is mildew resistant even though it doesn't say it on the box!!! Who is he fooling? So I went to Home Depot and bought the mildew resistant additive and handed it to him. Well, he clearly didn't use it or apply because mildew started showing up again. 2) Chipping. Keep in mind, the old grout was not chipping or breaking, just had mildew. However, within 18 months after he grouted the shower, I started getting small pieces of grout chipping off. Worst yet, the pieces were on the bottom edges and corners. After three years, there are large missing pieces. I paid $600 to grout the shower, which was significantly more than any other contractor because he seemingly had high yelp rating. For those who left a review, do the rest of us a favor and update your reviews couple of years after the work has been done. read more

Grout Experts just left my place an hour ago. I can say FABULOUS! JOB! My estimate was resonable and job was done exactly as quoted. We have tried to scrub, steam, clean grout so many times that to hire Grout Experts is the best way to go. You will never get the tile and grout back to new like this on your own. Beleive me, we have tried, numurous times. Our tile floor is absolutley gorgeous! The floor is 14 years old and you would never know it. And of all colors, it's white with white grout. Apparently since we bought (we are second owners), the grout was dull and dark in places, like in the traffice areas. I was at the point of chipping it out and thought I'd try one more time to clean it. Glad I did. I never thought the floor could come back to life. I am speechless. I want to thank Hoang and his team, Austin and Hugo. I am so happy and happy to call you again for other home improvements that may come up. Started out getting a shower grout cleaning and then morphed to replacing floor tile, marble counter tops, shower doors and other minor things. Hoang Nuygen and his crew were outstanding. Pedro did the tile work and did an outstanding job. He was slow in his work but the outcome was beautiful. I would highly recommend this company and we plan to use them again next year for other projects. read more

We used the location in Concord, CA - Adam Price. I must say that using these guys was one of the nicest and easiest experiences. He gave me a reasonable price estimate and we set up a time for him and a helper to come to my home. Adam was nice, honest and arrived on time to do the work. The two of them finished in about 6 hours and my shower looks great. It was in not so good shape and really needed to be regrouted. I had looked at re-bath as well but went with Adam and his company b/c he came across honest and genuinely wanting to do the very best job possible. Both Adam and his collegue were polite, considerate (they put a tarp down to minimize tracking dirt into my house) and they took their shoes off each time they went upstairs. Our family bought a 1960's home recently and the master bathroom had a tiled shower and floor that was in really bad shape. The tile was in good shape but the grout was constantly growing mold and algae no matter how much bleach we would spray on it. Ricky came out to our home and provided us with a estimate to re-grout all the tile that was problematic, mostly all the floor tile that gets wet. The installation was a full day, with one guy (kind of hard to have more than one guy in the shower at a time). We had to let the grout and caulking cure for 24 hours before using. This is a no brainer if you are on a tight budget and cannot afford to re-tile. Most importantly, my wife is not scared of the shower anymore, no more mold! Contacted the manager Hoang to book appointment and then 2 days prior to appointment contacted him to reconfirm date and time. When nobody arrived for appointment I called him and he said "I forgot to schedule it". Clearly this is not a well-run or reliable outfit and I'd recommend finding another comparable service who show up when booked. read more

This company is frustrating to work with. Several months ago, I had Hoang Nguyen come out to clean and regrout my master bathroom shower. He quoted me $500+ for the job, to which I agreed and he guaranteed his work for 1 year. I gave him the job and have since followed his instructions for how best to clean and maintain the shower. Along the bottom of the shower walls that meet the floor, much of the grout has cracked and chipped away. I have contacted Grout Expert 4 times and left several messages with his answering service. I had an appointment scheduled for last Thursday and no one showed up. Once I finally got hold of Hoang on his direct line, he informed me he could not make the appointment and we scheduled for the following day (Friday). Again, I prepared my bathroom for him to do work and he never showed. One hour after his appointment time, I called him and even though he had a text from me listing my address and time of appointment, he failed to show. After Friday's missed appointment, we had another phone conversation and he promised to be at my house on Monday at 9am. He even texted me to confirm. Again, he did not show up until I texted him 90 minutes later AFTER I texted him, at which time he said it was his fault because he forgot. I believe Hoang intends to provide good service to his customers, but between his unreliable answering service (listed on the Grout Expert's website) and his overly busy schedule (his cell phone must have rang five times in the five minutes we talked once he finally showed up), he is not able to follow through on his commitments in a timely manner. Overall, this has been a frustrating and time consuming experience and I have mixed feelings about this business. read more

I am surprised The Grout Expert e-mailed us to place a review on Yelp*, because they ended up not getting the job! They called after 5 hours to apologize for being late for estimate appointment, then showed up 3 hours more after that. However, we thought they sounded competent about the job. After receiving another bid, we called them to request a call back to discuss their much-higher bid, to see if there was any wiggle room on the price. After not hearing from them for two days, we called the second bidder and awarded them the job. When Grout Experts returned my call three days later, we told them we had given the job to a company who had responded promptly. So, interesting we were now asked to leave our review! Great work NOT dependable. I have used these guys once, tried twice. Out of the 2 original appointments I have scheduled with them they have canceled BOTH times within an hour of the scheduled arrival times. The first time I was able to reschedule them for the following week but now this time they are trying to push me out a month. There is no way I can do my job with someone that can't stick to the dates and times they schedule. Once ok fine, it happens. But to call on the SECOND appointment saying you knew a week ago you couldn't make it why wait till 1 hr prior to tell the client? Thanks but never mind. Our Eichler bathroom needed grout repair. We got a coupon in the mail so we called them for a free estimate. We accepted the estimate and set up the time. Austin came out and spent hours scraping and re-caulking. It looks great and he cleaned the bathroom thoroughly, spotlessly after completing the project. We are very pleased. Austin was awesome. I have used Hoang for a small bathroom project. Due to time pressure, I didn't do my diligence to compare quotes. Later, I find out he has quoted me more than 2k from what usually the work costs. His crew also took away the fan and towel bar in my bathroom and never returned them to me even I have requested them back. With the money spent, the work is only mediocre and cheap materials were used for construction without confirming with me. The work also lacks attention to details. Wow. Grout Experts did an incredible job! We had our master bathroom shower tiles re-grouted and sealed, and had some minor re-grouting done in our kids' and guest's bathrooms. They all look amazing. I'm a total neat freak so the fact that they were able to get those gross mildew stains out of the shower was so cathartic (hey, I'm pregnant--it doesn't take much)! They responded quickly to my inquiry, were on-time, gave a fair quote, and started work the following day. It took them the entire day to work but it was worth it. The showers and baths look brand new. Well worth the time and price. Will definitely use them again next year to for maintenance/sealing. read more

The grout and tile in my bathroom were a mess. I had decided about a year ago to scrape out the old grout and smash in more modern grout. All my smashing left sticky globs of gunk partially attached. I waited a while to write this review because I wanted to see if their work actually lasts. It turned out the vertical shower joints they re-grouted only lasts a few months and it started cracking and crumbling. I ended up hiring another company to fix it again and I was told for those vertical joints grout caulk (caulk that looks like grout but is flexible) should be used instead. I decided to hire them in the first place because they could fit into my schedule and could come out quickly. However their quote was higher than the other companies I talked to. A couple other things I didn't like: the crew that removed old grout didn't do a good job on dust control. No vacuum was used and the grout dust flew everywhere. Also they used my utility fan without my permission to ventilate the bathroom and to blow dust out of the windows. The utility fan basically became unusable because the fine grout dust got everywhere inside the fan. read more

Very impressed with the San Jose franchise of The Grout Expert. Ricky was prompt in responding to estimates and calls, even on a weekend night. We have a 15 yr old shower stall with solid black tile and charcoal grouting, plus a glass block window in it. The one-man crew showed up on time and worked all day to restore it like new!
