Frank is a scam artist. After regrouting our bathroom, he touched up the grout with a DIFFERENT COLOR grout than he originally used, so random spots have darker grout. There are gaps in our grout which we didn't have before he regrouted, and they were never filled in. He damaged our toilet seat, when he was not even doing work to our toilet. He left clumps of grout in places that were not cleaned, he clogged our sink & tub drains with grout, and left our apartment a complete mess. Not only is his work poor, but so is his work ethic. He had estimated the work in our bathroom would take 1 day. Instead, he spent 4 days working, only for us to wind up with what was still a completely terrible, unprofessional job. He was often hours late with no communication. When we expressed our dissatisfaction with the work done, he came up with multiple excuses -- he wasn't feeling well, he was supposed to have a different technician helping him, our walls were tough, etc. None of those are excuses for why the grout was touched up with a different color... and if he wasn't feeling well or didn't have proper help than he should have rescheduled. I think the pictures speak for themselves. This is just a small sample of what his finished product looked like after 4 days of work. We asked for a partial refund and he ghosted us. I've been hesitant to write a review because of the hardships small businesses have been facing during the pandemic. However, the work that Frank did in our apartment isn't holding up well and I am noticing areas that were sloppily done. We found Frank to be messy and incredibly unprofessional. He also left a stain on our wood floor in our entryway from god knows what. I should have just gone with a contractor and paid the extra $$ to replace the tile. I'm mad at myself for not going with my gut and getting rid of him after the first consultation, but I gave him a chance. Awful work. AVOID. read more

A cautionary tale, Frank came to my apartment, looked at the job, quoted me a price and asked for a deposit that I gave in cash to guarantee a start date. I sent him the insurance requirements for my COOP and he replied that he would take care of it. Then nothing. Doesn't respond to calls, texts or e-mail. He was however soliciting for more work during this time as he sent me a text meant for someone else. Today was the promised start date. No insurance received at my Management office and no answer on his phone. Either he was hit by a car and is in a coma or he took my deposit with no intention of keeping his end of the bargain. I am the fool as I gave him the money. Even if he does surface after this posting no way would I let him near my project. He'll probably rip the tile out and never return. If you're sick Frank I hope you feel better. If not then you should be ashamed. read more

After posting this review, about a year later Frank came upon it and responded that we wanted to rectify the situation. He had stepped aside from the business for a time, and unfortunately those left in charge did not do such a great job in maintaining the business. Frank is now in charge again, and the business has been reorganized around the name "The Grout & Tile Experts". I actually didn't see Frank's comment on Yelp until an entire year after Frank reached back out, but when I responded back, Frank (now TWO YEARS after the original job) quickly got back to me and still wanted to make good on his promise to fix the situation . And, just as he said he would, he came to my apartment and REDID THE ENTIRE BATHROOM free of charge. He did a FANTASTIC job! Frank is skilled; he REALLY knows what he is doing and is friendly and punctual. He clearly takes pride in his work and his business. He could easily have just let this go, but had the integrity to right the situation and right it well. Not happy. I was told this would take 2 days. Frank has been to my place 8 different times. Yes we added one small project on, removing a soap dish, but even without that it was more than 2 days. Frank made a huge mess of my bathroom, I had to replace a faucet that he ruined. All of the touch ups were done in a different color than the original, so now I have to have those removed and redone. He forgot that sealing the floor was part of the quote, and didn't bring sealer. He also left grout smears allover the tile and on my newly reglazed tub and sink. Do not recommend. read more

There are two very different Franks at The Groutman NYC who work on grout and marble tile refinishing. The Frank who is either a subcontractor or an employee did an absolutely beautiful job regrouting the shower tiles around our bathtub in an old Upper West Side building. On time, efficient, taped anything that could have been affected, including tape around the edges of the medicine cabinet door. Meticulous work. The Frank who is apparently in charge is well-meaning and wants very much to do a good job. He also is the most unreliable contractor we've ever tried to employ. After rescheduling more times than we can count (and many no-shows by Frank), we gave up on having him finish a floor job he started. Quite disappointing. We should have read the reviews more carefully. I would give the first Frank five stars and the in-charge Frank negative stars. As it is, I'm going with insufficient two stars. read more

The man has become unhinged and even his insurance company couldn't find him to deal with a claim after he flooded my apartment after throwing too much grout down the drain. Water was pouring all over. Not only that, but the job he did was appalling and I had to pay someone to redo it. Frank refused to refund my money. They finished grouting my bathroom and tiled my kitchen backsplash. They're work is top-notch and even helped mask my own tiling mistakes. They were very professional, courteous, timely and clean. I am a property manager and he damaged my property unbelievably. Sink clogged due to grout going down and then flooded apartment. Workmanship was also horrendous. Frank is an absolute joke. He requests for a deposit only to find out that he doesn't complete the job. There are days that he doesn't show up or he doesn't even respond to calls or texts respectfully. When he does return your text, he responds with threatening messages, stating "you expect too much for a replacement job" and his overall work ethic is so unprofessional. He doesn't respect you as a person, thinks he is above the law, and worse of all, he doesn't care about how we think the project should come out or about his overall horrendous work job that he doesn't commit to finish. We simply asked him to replace a tile back on the wall, yet he replaces the tile on an angle and refuses to make it look clean and even. He continues to make excuses that the wall is already uneven and can't be replaced evenly, yet that is so untrue as the original tile was on evenly and clean. We even requested a partial refund for this horrendous work job, instead demands extra money for the time he spent on it. Of course, the money was never refunded and never replies back to issues that need to be addressed right away. I just cannot believe the 5-star reviews that this man receives from his professionalism that he represents. Its a far outcry and a scam. The grout in my bathroom was in desperate need of repair and restoration and was lucky enough to come across this company. I am SO GLAD I did. Frank was an absolute professional-- always on time, super communicative, efficient, all-business. He honestly transformed my bathroom from a pretty grotty, gross place to a twinkling, bright beauty. I literally can't peel myself out of the bathtub these days, I love it so much. I was-- and remain-- just astonished by the difference. Frank was super reasonable and completed the three days of work that this job required at a quick pace. He then came back to do some touch ups and to ensure that it was all to his standard. Wow. He regrouted our shower floor. About 2 weeks later, the grout did not hold in a particular area. I took a picture and sent it to him. He said he would take care of it. We made an appointment for him to come back to fix. He never showed. I emailed, texted and called him, and after about 3 days he got back to me to tell me of a family problem he had. I told him that a simple text, call or email would have been appreciated. He said that some people don't handle crises as well as I do. We then made another appointment for yesterday, and once again, he didn't show. I texted him, and have received no reply. Frank provided very poor service to me. He came out to provide a quote, and then took a $300 deposit. Then when the time came for him to come back and complete the work he was a no show. This was repeated several times with him offering up a range of excuses (medical emergency, car broke down...) until he finally stopped responding. Ultimately I made a complaint to the NY Bureau of Consumer Frauds and Protection and they were able to track him down and secure a refund. read more

Update June 2017 Grout work in one bathroom needed to be repaired after only 8 months. Since Frank's work came with a warranty I reached out to him. I emailed numerous times only to have the messages kicked back as undeliverable. I left phone calls and text messages. Finally Frank replied to a text message with a window of time he could come and perform the repairs and confirmed the date I selected. On that date, after cutting short an important out of town visit, Frank was a no show with no follow-up communication. I have tried unsuccessfully to get in touch with him again. A warranty is not worth the paper it is written on if the company you receive it from disappears. October 2016: Frank truly cares about the work he does and wants his clients to be happy with the job when it is completed. Frank and Todd did an amazing job re-grouting/ sealing one of our bathrooms and a large touch-up re-grouting/sealing of a 2nd bathroom. They arrive on-time and complete the work in the proposed time frame. They keep in constant communication and are very approachable if you have any questions with the work being done. Frank the Grout Man charged me $75 just for coming to my house to give me an estimate on some work in my bathrooms. He told me the $75 could go towards the eventual price of the work, but that he had a $500 minimum. But he then told me that the job in my apartment bathrooms was simultaneously too small (under $500) AND too big (over $500) for him to do. That was the last I heard from him. I called him over and over, never heard a thing in response. To that point, I was totally unsatisfied with the "Grout Man." I posted a negative review here and then the manager of the company, Mark, reached out to me personally. He was both apologetic and constructive. We spoke for some time and Mark promised he would address all of my concerns for future customers. I eventually found another service to do the work in my bathroom, so didn't use the Grout Man. But Mark's response caused me to raise my review from 1 to 3 stars. He cares about the job he does and has great customer service skills and also a wonderful sense of humor which we all need to today's times. Amazing experience. Our tenant's shower was leaking into our kitchen, and we discovered that it was not a plumbing problem, but a tile / grout problem. Our plumber could not refer to someone to could take on the small job of regrouting and replacing the messed up tiles. This morning (Sunday) I sat down on Yelp to figure out who to call. Frank answered the phone at 8:30AM, and offered to come over on Tuesday to give an estimate. I figured that was convenient enough. But an hour later he called back and offered to come today! He arrived on time, and after assessing the situation offered me two options: a quick and cheap fix that would last for a couple of years until we renovate, or a more permanent fix for about $200 more. Based on prior bad experiences with quick fixes, I went with the permanent job. Much to my delight, he said he could just stay and take care of it today (remember, Sunday!!). The job was completed in about 4 hours, and the bathroom looks fantastic -- all the old moldy grout and caulk is gone, and everything looks gleaming white and finally properly affixed to the wall. Outstanding service and work done. Mark (the general manager) handled all of my calls and emails and was extremely responsive. I have had my shower re-grouted 2 times previously with pretty lame results. This time the shower looks brand new and will hopefully last longer as Mark discussed various products with me for long term results. The price was very similar with the 2 companies prior. The man who completed the work was meticulous and friendly. I have had a very difficult time getting good service and high quality work for a fair price in this neighborhood. Didn't even show up for the estimate. No phone call to reschedule. A total joke of a company.

I contracted Frank in December of 2015 to re-grout the tiles in my shower stall, the work was completed. Approximately 7 months after the work was completed I noticed the grout was deteriorating away at an alarming pace, I contacted Frank, he came, admitted the job was insufficiently done and would be back to complete. He then canceled 4 appointments (either at the last minute or after the appointment was supposed to start) and the last one he entirely no showed, after confirming a day before. I have sent a half a dozen emails and 4 phone calls, received no response, he has completely vanished- I would not recommend using his or this companies services. It is now 14 months after the original grout work was completed and it has completely disintegrated. Very Disappointing read more

Frank did an excellent job replacing tiles in my bathroom that had been poorly installed after a previous repair job. When the work turned out to be more complicated--requiring him to get larger tiles which he had to cut individually by hand in order to fit--he didn't charge more than his original estimate, and he still completed the job in one day. No returned phone calls, (caller ID?) no completed work, no indication that it will ever be done. Both times they canceled the job after they were to have arrived. Frank is not reliable at all. If you are looking for someone who is going to come and get the job done look elsewhere. I must agree with the woman who said he's a fraud. He was quick to come to my house, inspect the tiles, draft up paperwork and get a deposit. Everything after that was torture. I had to chase him to send me his certificate of insurance, after a week it was finally sent. When I notified him adjustments needed to be made on the paperwork there went another three days of chasing behind him. When the correct paperwork was submitted my name was misspelled...how hard is it to copy the correct spelling of someone's name? The day he was supposed to arrive he texted me early that morning to say he'd be half an hour to an hour late. Let's try he didn't show up and will not answer his phone. I have texted, called and left him a voicemail. He's mia, not sure if any of these reviews are even valid because who runs a business like this. I am livid as I have dealt with many people and he is by far the worst. Don't even waste your time looking at Mr Grout Man unless you want to keep on with the rat race to get your money back.
