It's about a 5 minute walk down Fountain Street from the permanent Trinity. It opened during the pandemic, and for a couple years was the only place I would ever go out to for a drink. But even now that I've been back to going out for a while, I can say that this is still actually my favorite place for a drink, of all the many bars and breweries in and around PVD. Why? Because it's simple. You get a beer, you sit under the trees while the city moves around you, you drink. Simple. Maybe you go get another beer, or bring some takeout from somewhere. Simple. What is not simple or needed is "comedy" shows, bad bands, mediocre DJs with speakers that could handle lollapalooza. I also wish they would open in May, when the weather is fine for beer gardens, instead of waiting until June. It would be great to have a focus on keeping the beer selection decent (for a long stretch last year they had no IPAs) and opening on a regular/predictable schedule, and food from some of the great ethic places around rather than the frozen deep-fried overpriced apps of a middling hotel bar. I think, over time, that is what gets you more customers versus programming that has more volume than talent.

Moniker Brewery is a craft brewery that opened in Providence, Rhode Island in January 2021. It was…read morefounded by business partners Bryan Benedict, Jeff Goodno, Ben Estes, Ted Pease and Jean Lombard. Benedict left a career in IT in order to turn his craft beer hobby into a full time job. He worked as a sales rep and brand manager for a wholesaler before becoming the director of marketing and sales at Connecticut-based Beer'd Brewing Company. He dreamed of opening his own brewery, so he partnered with Goodno, who had 15+ years of experience working for breweries such as Taproot, Victory Brewing, and SOME Brewing. Estes, who had formerly worked at Proclamation Ale Company and the Guild, was hired as the head brewer. Pease and Lombard, who had experience with tax laws and other skills, were the last partners to come on board. They set up shop in a former auto body. Benedict chose the name "Moniker" to strip away the focus on brand egos and instead focus entirely on the taproom experience, the community, and the beer. The brewery became notable for their wide repertoire of beer styles, even earning praise from Hop Culture Magazine. In May 2026, Moniker purchased Ravenous Brewing in Cumberland with plans to rebrand it as "Moniker North". I recently visited Moniker Brewery while I was passing through Providence. They had been on my list for a while. The place was small and cozy but inviting with a decent amount of indoor seating. There is also patio seating outside, but it was a little too wet and chilly on the day of my visit. I pulled up a seat at the bar and looked over the draught menu. There was a nice eclectic mix of styles. I ordered a sampler flight which included "L.H. Czech Dark" (Tmavé), "Midnight Rodeo" (Dark Mexican Lager), "Blinded by Nostalgia" (IPA), "Stay Cool Drink Moniker" (Hazy Pale Ale), and "It's Called Sightseeing" (Bourbon Barrel-Aged Tripel). If you're looking for a great cocktail in a cozy little bar, however, you're in the right place. The cocktail menu is excellent. There are a lot of creative options that go well beyond the standard collection of Old Fashioneds, Margaritas, and Martinis you'll find at most bars. The drinks are imaginative without becoming gimmicky, and the combinations we tried were really well balanced and interesting. You can tell there is some serious thought behind the cocktail program, and it makes ordering something new a lot of fun. Our waitress was fantastic as well. My wife ordered a drink that apparently isn't something every bartender is familiar with, so our waitress went back to the bartender to ask about it. The bartender immediately knew exactly what she was talking about, which was a nice little reminder that these people actually know their drinks. The Eddy has that comfortable, slightly dark cocktail-bar feeling where you can sit down, have a drink, listen to good music, and actually enjoy being there rather than feeling like you're sitting in a loud restaurant waiting for someone to bring you your check. My only real warning is that this place is genuinely small. That is part of its charm, but it also means getting in and finding a seat can be difficult at times, particularly when it's busy. You probably shouldn't show up with a large group expecting to immediately find a table. For two people looking for a couple of really good cocktails, though, it's pretty much ideal. The prices are also quite reasonable for the quality of the drinks. You're obviously paying cocktail-bar prices rather than dive-bar prices, but I didn't feel like we were being taken advantage of. Considering the creativity and quality of what we were drinking, I thought the prices were perfectly fair. I'm actually a little annoyed that I went this long without knowing The Eddy existed. Providence has so many cocktail bars that you can spend years here and still keep discovering places you've somehow walked past a hundred times. The Eddy is definitely going on the list of places we need to come back to, and we will 100% be back.
