Origin Beer Project is a craft brewery that opened in Cranston, Rhode Island in October 2020. It was founded by husband and wife Cheyne and Erika Tessier. Cheyne previously worked as a brewer for Cape Cod Beer and then Proclamation Ale Company before he accepted the position of head brewer at Buttonwoods Brewery. After a few years, Cheyne and Erika became interested in opening their own brewery. Unfortunately their timing was terrible; the pandemic had started and several deals to secure a location fell through. Finally they came up with the idea to open as an Alternating Proprietorship Brewery (or "alt-prop", tenant, or partner brewery). This means that there is an agreement between a host brewery and another brewery which can use their space and equipment when the host brewery isn't in operation. The Tessiers approached Buttonwoods' father and son co-owners Morgan Snyder Sr and Jr with the idea and the two accepted the proposal. In spite of the unusual business setup, Origin Beer Project quickly found success with their excellent repertoire of beers. Plans are currently underway for the brewery to open at its own location in Providence before the year's end. My son and I recently visited Origin Beer Project after we went on a long bike ride on the nearby Washington Secondary Bike Path. I decided to look and see if there was a good brewery nearby for lunch, and Buttonwoods came highly recommended. Origin has their own small space set up inside Buttonwoods' "Annex". One thing worth noting is that although they share the same location, Origin and Buttonwoods operate on two different schedules. On the day of my visit, I showed up to Buttonwoods taproom not long after they opened at Noon. Cheyne didn't arrive to start pouring Origin beers until 3PM, so make sure to check their hours before you go. I decided to order short pours of "Relentless Romanticism" (Citra Pale Ale) and "So Anyway" (Imperial Stout conditioned on Tonka Beans - a collaboration with Hive Beer). The pale ale was refreshing with excellent floral notes and the stout had a strong nutty flavor. I was very impressed with Origin's offerings and I expect great things from them in the future. I look forward to when they move to their own space!

Benedict left a career in IT in order to turn his craft beer hobby into a full time job. He worked as a sales rep and brand manager for a wholesaler before becoming the director of marketing and sales at Connecticut-based Beer'd Brewing Company. He dreamed of opening his own brewery, so he partnered with Goodno, who had 15+ years of experience working for breweries such as Taproot, Victory Brewing, and SOME Brewing. Estes, who had formerly worked at Proclamation Ale Company and the Guild, was hired as the head brewer. Pease and Lombard, who had experience with tax laws and other skills, were the last partners to come on board. They set up shop in a former auto body. Benedict chose the name "Moniker" to strip away the focus on brand egos and instead focus entirely on the taproom experience, the community, and the beer. The brewery became notable for their wide repertoire of beer styles, even earning praise from Hop Culture Magazine. In May 2026, Moniker purchased Ravenous Brewing in Cumberland with plans to rebrand it as "Moniker North". I recently visited Moniker Brewery while I was passing through Providence. They had been on my list for a while. The place was small and cozy but inviting with a decent amount of indoor seating. There is also patio seating outside, but it was a little too wet and chilly on the day of my visit. I pulled up a seat at the bar and looked over the draught menu. There was a nice eclectic mix of styles. I ordered a sampler flight which included "L.H. Czech Dark" (Tmavé), "Midnight Rodeo" (Dark Mexican Lager), "Blinded by Nostalgia" (IPA), "Stay Cool Drink Moniker" (Hazy Pale Ale), and "It's Called Sightseeing" (Bourbon Barrel-Aged Tripel). The latter was my favorite! Between the eclectic mix of styles and the friendly space, I really enjoyed my visit to Moniker. I look forward to when they open their new larger space.

We were seated quickly, and the service was excellent from start to finish. Everyone in our group ordered something different--from nachos and chicken & waffles to salmon--and every meal was a hit. The drinks were great, the food was delicious, and the TVs made it a perfect place to catch whatever sports were on. Managing a large group can be challenging, but the staff handled everything smoothly and made the experience enjoyable for everyone. Highly recommend Trinity Brewhouse for families, large groups, and anyone looking for great food, drinks, and service!

The front desk replied 1/2 a block from here. DOUBLE IN!! Had the Woonsocket local IPA and the Angel Chicken Enchiladadas. TRIFECTA!!! The chicken enchiladas were the best I've had. Tender enough to cut with your fork and firm enough to be picked up by the fork in one piece. No knife needed. The Woonsocket IPA was a solid pairing. Ate at the bar and enjoyed friendly conversation with the bar keeps. Well done Union Station, I will be back.

My sister asked for more syrup and they actually charged us $1 for the ramekin of syrup! Never been to a place that charged for more syrup! We weren't even told that it would be an extra cost. For service, the customers need to be awared. My grandma asked for soft scrabble eggs, which was cooked perfectly to her liking. I had the Nashville hot chicken and waffles with fries. The waffles was cooked a bit too long. The chicken was very juicy but was not hot at all. For Nashville hot, I expected a lot more and I was very disappointed. On the menu, it said drizzled with syrup but there wasn't really any syrup at all. If it was for the chicken being juicy, that sandwhich would of been so dry!!! Yet the fries were good! Service could of been better. Our waitress was nice but barely checked on us. When asking for syrup the first time with another waitress, she said ok but went straight to her table that was near us to take orders. So waited another 5 or so minutes until a lady (who seemed like a manager) came by and we asked again.

The two met when they both worked at a brewery in Honolulu. Once returning to Rhode Island, the couple decided to open their own gastropub in Stephanie's hometown of Westerly. Dubbed "The Malted Barley", the business focused on craft beer paired with gourmet pretzel sandwiches. The pretzel dough is made fresh daily, and every pretzel is rolled and stuffed by hand. After much success, the Bennetts looked to franchise their business model. After signing a licensing agreement with investor Ron Koller, a second Malted Barley opened in Providence in March 2016. In March 2023, the Bennetts closed the original Malted Barley in Westerly so that they could focus on their flower farm, Echo Rock Flowers, as well as their family. The Malted Barley in Providence continues to run under the ownership of Ron Koller. I visited the original Westerly location of the Malted Barley in 2014 while I was on a craft beer bus tour. I was so impressed with their excellent craft beer selection and delicious gourmet pretzels that I decided to make the gastropub a stop on my craft beer bachelor party bus tour three years later. I was very sad when I heard that the original location closed down, but I took comfort in knowing that a second location still existed in Providence. I recently visited the Providence location for lunch while I was passing through the area. When I walked in, I immediately smelled the freshly baked pretzels. For food, I ordered the "Barley Bacon Beast Burger" (75 % beef 25 % bacon patty, pepperjack cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, more bacon w/ a side of ketchup) on an Everything Pretzel. It really hit the spot. I must add that these pretzels are essentially a hybrid between traditional Bavarian pretzels and New York-style bagels: salty and crunchy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. While looking over the beer menu, I was surprised to see that the Malted Barley now brews their own house beer in addition to guest taps. I ordered a taster flight that featured Malted Barley's "Banana Bread" (Traditional Ale) and "Monster Juice" (Hazy IPA), as well as Long Live Beerworks' "Invisible IPA" (hazy IPA) and Phantom Farms Brewing's "Coarse Woody Debris" (Saison). All of the beers were very refreshing and paired nicely with my pretzel sandwich. I still miss the original Westerly location, but it's nice to know that you can still find delicious pretzels sandwiches paired with craft beer just a little further away.
