If I could give a 6-star review I would. Auguste did a major overhaul of the gutters on our home in the Fort Hunt area of Alexandria about 4 years ago. Because of the layout of the home and existing features, there were some aspects of the install that were less than ideal, but Auguste put it all together extremely well, replacing only sections that needed larger gutters to handle the water flow. He fed the main downspout down into an existing below-ground drain. He also installed covers for all gutters, which have been virtually zero maintenance over four years. We just had a large storm come through and the below-ground drain was clogged. Despite the lengthy period of time since the initial install, August came out within 24 hours and made a significant adjustment to bypass it in the near term. He insisted on making these adjustments (which took about an hour) without charge despite me being pushy about it. It speaks volumes about the character of the business. This was a complicated, custom operation, but Auguste made it feel straightforward. I had three estimates: one fly by night operation wanted 1.5x what Auguste asked. The other, a very reputable company, wanted 4x! I couldn't be happier with the result. Mr. Auguste Remy came out and gave me a written estimate which I felt was reasonable. I gave the job to The Gutter Works Company and was very pleased with how timely the work was completed and the quality of the work performed. When the gutters on my home started pulling away from from the roof line, I decided it was time to replace the gutters with something a bit nicer and stronger. After contacting five services using Yelp, I heard back from four of them and ended up getting quotes from three. Of the three quotes, two were lower than the third, and the one I went with was local to me. Auguste was very responsive through the entire process. He showed up to do the quote even when I wasn't at home, and answered all my questions quickly. As soon as we scheduled a date, he sent a reminder the day before to let me know what time they would be out the following day. When they showed up, they got everything done very quickly. I was concerned that the facia has rotted away (which was why the gutters had fallen away) but he took pictures to show me that it was actually in decent shape and that only one a small section needed to be replaced. I was relieved that not only would I avoid that cost, but that I knew Auguste was giving me an honest assessment. Every time it rained hard, I had a waterfall over my front door. After doing research, I figured that I needed a slightly larger downspout. Auguste came out quickly and on time. He showed me that the gutter was also sagging. He said that he could repair it, but said that for a little more, he would replace the gutter with one to match the new downspout and tilt it correctly. We agreed, and he did it the next week when I was at work. I have checked during this summer's downpours, and the new gutter works perfectly. I see why this business has gotten such high reviews. I shared with the owner that we were having leakage issues, so he suggested installing a shield, which his team did. However, the leakage issue continued, so he came out again to inspect. It turned out that our community has custom gutters that can't be changed easily, and there wasn't much he could do since it was out of his control. He didn't charge me for any of the work that he and his team did since the problem wasn't solved, but I really appreciated his integrity as a business owner and how he tried to think of creative solutions. Auguste is fantastic! He cleaned my gutter and found an issue with my front gutter which I noticed it for some time. He gave me discount because he could not clean the gutter due to the problem. When I called him and asked him about detail of the problem, he explained and gave me few options to fix the problem. I was impressed by every aspect of this company. I called after my gutter was half blown down by the wind. I called several people and no one could come out for about a week. I emailed The Gutterworks Company and Auguste with some pictures and comments and was given a very rough estimate and availability in 2 days for repair or 4 days to replace. I was texted the morning of arrival and they showed up exactly on time. Auguste came out and was a pleasure to speak with, they did the work great, and even did some extra items that I didn't expect them to do (nailing in a couple boards on the other side which wasn't even connected to the gutters in repair & repairing the drain pipe). The gutter cleaning company I have used for years had always told me I could not install gutter guards because they won't work for pine needles which are fairly abundant in our area. After a few years of continuing to have waterfalling problems off my roof within a few months after gutter cleaning, I decided to try a different company. Contacted TheGutterWorksCompany/Remy Gutters after reading the very positive reviews on Yelp. So very glad I did. Auguste provided a list of gutter guards that are effective for pine needles and told me which two he recommended. I researched a few of the products on the list, including his recommendations and found they were highly rated. A few days later Auguste and his 3-member crew arrived within the time I was given. It only took about 1/2 hour for them to clean my gutters, downspouts and install the gutter guards. I will call them once a year to clean off the roof and gutters. I recently obtained estimates for replacing my old gutters with new ones, including gutter guards. The Dream: In my dream, really a nightmare, I was being held captive in my own house for the third hour in a row listening to a sales pitch from a Timson Crock salesman. After I vehemently said no to the first estimate of only $8600.00, the salesman continued to expound on why his product was superior to any other product in the world. As I continued to decline the offer, he kept lowering the price. After the second hour, the price was now only $6400.00. But once again I declined the amazing bargain price. At that point I figured that he would realize I wasn't interested in his product. But wait, there's more! At the end of the third hour the price had inexplicably dropped to $4400. How could I possibly decline such an offer? I didn't have to because, luckily, I work up from the dream. The Reality: There are seemingly hundreds of companies in this area that install gutters and gutter guards, so getting estimates was a daunting task. As usual, I used Yelp to narrow down my choices to five companies that had high ratings. I quickly realized that the real problem was deciding what type of gutter guard to use because at last count there are at least 88 different types of guards available. Naturally, each company sells what they consider to be the "best" guard. I then reviewed and watched videos of about a dozen different type guards ranging from helmet types to foam pads. Again, each manufacturer claimed that their guard was the "best". Interestingly, reading reviews posted by actual users of the various types of guards gave me a different perspective. In essence, many users found fault with the guard they purchased regardless of price. Some of the guards promise to be clog free for a certain number of years, or even forever. However, by reading the actual warranty I saw that the gutters had to be routinely cleaned for the warranty to be effective. Think about that for a moment. Of course the gutters will be clog free if they are routinely cleaned. Then, I also read an older Consumer Report article comparing various types of guards. Their conclusion was that a standard gutter screen available from Home Depot was just as effective as ones that cost hundreds of dollars. Speaking of cost, when I was getting estimates I found that the guards themselves were almost as expensive as the gutters. For example, one company quoted me a price of $1200.00 for the gutters, and an additional $920.00 for the guards they used. After getting five estimates that were all higher than I wanted to pay, I looked at the Washington Checkbook magazine and read their reviews of gutter companies. The company that stood out was one that 52 people out of 53 people highly recommended. That company, The Gutterworks Company, was not listed on Yelp so I added it because it was the one I used. The company actually consists of two people, the owner and a helper. The owner is on every job helping with the installation. When I talked with Auguste, the owner, I explained my dilemma regarding the choice of guards. He fully understood my concern about paying an exorbitant amount of money for guards that need to be routinely cleaned and said that he uses a simple screen similar to the one recommended in the Consumer Report. Auguste and his helper showed up exactly on time and methodically removed the old gutters and installed the new ones. The day he did the installation was one day after a heavy storm, so there were hundreds of small branches on the roof. He cleaned the entire roof, and also cleaned up all the debris on the ground near the house. I found Auguste to be a very honest contractor who didn't try to up sell me on anything I didn't want. His price was considerably lower than any of the five other estimates I received, and the work was impeccable.
