What a great place to write my 400th review! :) On a referral from a good friend, I decided to try this place. Boy am I glad that I did. If it wasn't for a referral, I don't think I would have ever found this hidden gem. I walked in and I immediately fell in love because I felt so comfortable there. It has a very homely feel, but not in a bad way. Cute little decor, product display along the wall, and Victor, the owner, and Martha, his wife; the two stylists. From the moment I sat in his chair, I felt like Victor really cared about my comfort and happiness. We started off with the consultation where he listened to everything that I had previously done to my hair and what I wanted to do with my hair. He then explained to me all of the options and their results. We decided to do my retouch on my color, a conditioning treatment and then cut an inch off. Victor spent the majority of the time I was there working on me and my hair. The only time he left me was when my color was processing. Even then, with the shop as small as it is, he was always near. When it was time to cut, he already knew that I wanted a little taken off and that I didn't want to go home and realize that the layers have left me looking like a Christmas Tree. He took his time in measuring up my hair to see what he was dealing with before he even started cutting. Once he was happy with the cut he asked if I wanted to leave curly or straight. I opted for straight and flat-ironed. With the treatment and the leave-in conditioner, my hair felt amazing! While sitting there, I conversed with Martha, her clients, and Victor. It felt like Cheers but without the beer because I felt so at ease and comfortable. According to Victor, they have been married 20 years but he counts it as 40 because they work together, they commute together, and they live together. They both are very sweet and genuine people and I can see why they have lasted so long. The other reason I will definitely be back is because their prices are extremely reasonable. Great prices for top notch service. Also, they both stay current on what's new in hair by attending conventions and the like. It was mentioned to me that they do not have a lot of "hair" magazines up front because they would rather a client come in with what they want instead of getting there and having to "choose" from the selection available. I've already booked my appointment for four weeks from now and I can't wait! :) read more

There's a lot of history at this place. Now Victor and Martha have been open for over 20 years and they look fabulous doing it! I have been coming to this salon since I was about 10 years old. So for a good fifteen years and my mom even longer. There is no other place that I trust my hair with than with Victor. Because of this talented man I have the best cuts and he lets me decide the cut or style that I want, not what he can do, because he can do anything. Trust me, him and his wife go to conferences, new schools and training sessions to keep up with the now. On top of them owning their own shop in little El Monte, they also travel to do Quinceneras, Weddings, Parties, and so forth. Martha and Victor are a knock out duo. They will do up to 20, yes 20 haircuts and styles to make the occasion perfect! That's not all... Victor does my mother's hair and this woman is always on the go and always trying new cuts, styles and dyes. Guess what? Victor has done every one of them. When she's gone blonde, red, black, brown, you name he's done it on my mom's head. No matter how hard the task is or how ridiculous of an idea that my mom has thrown at him, Victor delivers. He truly is talented! Not only that he puts in the time. He doesn't rush and he doesn't cut corners. He takes pride in what he does and always, I mean always engages the client to make sure they are 100% satisfy with the cut, style and so on. I always find my way home with this place. I pretty much grew up here and the best part, everybody and anybody that walks through those doors will feel the exact same way. Victor and Martha are so loving and so welcoming, they make you feel at home. Never a dull moment and always entertaining. They play great music and always have snacks for their clients and guests. Lets not forget their sales. Say what? Yes they do semi-annual sales, black Friday deals and so on on their hair products and tools like curling irons. Finally they don't sugar coat anything. They will always tell you the pros and cons on anything they do. For example, one time I came in and asked for a hair cut, you know a little trim and Victor told "No need, your hair has little to no split ends and is really healthy". He straight up told me, that I had great hair and no need of his services. What am I getting at here? This place is not about the money, he didn't just cut my hair and say "Okay you pay now!" He was honest and told me there is nothing for him to do. So Instead I got bangs for five bucks. Overall, I guarantee you will get a great cut, style, dye, weave or whatever you want or need here. My mom has gotten hair treatments for balding, hair dyed, cut and styled and always comes back. The same with me, and trust there have been times where I have gone astray and he notices and tells me that they jacked up my hair, but It's okay because I have Victor and he always fixes the boo-boos and so much more. read more

The only place I go to to get my haircuts! I tell them what I want and they give it to me. They're very stylish and professional so I usually just say I want a trim and some layers and I leave happy :) $18 for a haircut with no blow dry, a little pricey but I can't complain. Both husband and wife cut hairs and you can't go wrong with either one! Very clean place as well. read more

I have been shoping for a beautician close to my job where if I'm having a bad hair day I could just call and make an appointment and be seen that day. Well I would like to share this great finding with all of you in South El Monte, Montebello, Rosemead, San Garbiel Valley. The Hair Shapers! I called them to make an appointment and Victor returned my call right away and scheduled an appointment for the same day. The place is such a nice and quaint place to go and get away from everything and be pampered. Victor definetly knows what he is doing and I am making this my second home. When I got back to the office I could not believe how many people complimented me on my hair do. Victor and Martha have the experience and talent but most of all they have the most important skill and that is that they love what they do and it shows "on me!" They have your best interest at hand. I will open my review with," Victor you are fantastic, and are always up to date when it comes to latest hair fashion". I been getting my Hair done at this place for years, and trust Victor with my hair like no other. Not even with Martha (no offense). She did my hair once and i consider she has average skills. Sorry to say, that some people are born with a gift and others just need to work allot harder. I've seen Victor go Throught rough times, like now that he has moved in with a family member in Whittier. But no matter what he will not give his customers less then his full and complete attention. Me and my husband had always had our hair done at this place. Victor does my hair, since am the picky one. And Martha cuts my husband's hair. We started going at different times due that our schedules got very different, no big deal, right?..That was then , but i found out some months ago that Martha threw her professionalism out the window and the relation hairstylist - customer had been passed far beyond the values and morality Martha talks about with her customers. Shame on you Martha and as for you Victor, you have always come out of the legal troubles she gets you in and you will come out of this one as well.
