I've been coming to Bertha since 2003 No other hair stylist has touched my hair for any highlights or any major color changes since then; the reason is because my hair is not very easy to handle, but Bertha always makes my hair look so pretty... Brett, gives great service. Works well with others, no drama. The salon has the best manicurists as well as stylists. Fantastic group of manicurist, stylist, colorist, class act! Doesn't take all day to get that all day look super talented people in there always underestimated. Don't pay more check them out in person these pictures do not do them Justice this is not good pictures. I will come in and take better pictures these do not do these people Justice. Did I mention on holidays the owner puts out at buffet not only for her stylist but for clients if you happen to be coming on the day it's held her motto is more the merrier and it seems to work out great for them. Alto it is a almost "all day thing" when you go there since she is usually very busy..it is definitely worth it. I don't even tell Bertha what I want anymore. I was recommended here by a co worker and agreed to tag along. They were so helpful and helped me get my hair to looking and feeling so much better. They do a great job with color as well. I was referred to this salon by my co-workers. Their hair always looked great and I just had to ask where they go. I went feeling a bit reluctant because I haven't had the best luck finding a new stylist. The place is cute, nothing extravagant. The owner was very pleasant and same with her assistant. I had a great experience - she really listened and actually came real close to what I wanted if not more than what I wanted. One of the best parts is when the assistant washes out your hair - it is the most relaxing hair washes I've EVER had. Now the owner who did my hair does this fun thing where when she cuts your hair she turns you away from the mirror so you can't see it until she's done. For my type-A personality this was a little hard for me to not be in control but it ended up being really exciting and I was not disappointed. I will definitely be going back. This review is for one stylist in particular. I have no experience with anyone else in this salon. I originally stopped in at this salon when my mom was sick and needed her hair washed. There was a male 'stylist,' Nunzio, that was not busy(should have been my first clue) and did the wash for my mom. He also blow dried it with some style, which made her feel good. I paid him and tipped generously. My mom and I decided we'd try him for our next trim, as this salon is closer than where we normally go. I have long hair, and I worked hard to get it there, so I said only cut 1/2". Nunzio said "half inch or an inch, it doesn't matter..." WHAT?! It matters because it's what I am asking for, mister! I get trims every 8 weeks. I did not need an inch. I also did not ask for an inch. I decide to let it slide and ask about gradually taking my light blonde hair darker. I specifically said to go GRADUAL(or I would cry) and I specifically said not one solid color. Well, Nunzio was so busy checking his text messages(and commenting 'yay, more clients means more money!'), he must have not listened, not heard or just chose to do what he wanted. I ended up with a solid dark brown, ugly, awful, nothing that I asked for color. When I told him it was not what I asked for, he told me 'after a few washes it will lighten up.' I was not paying for my hair to be what I asked for 'after a few washes'!! After I go cry in the bathroom, he tells me he can put some bleach to wash 'most of the color out.' I should have just walked out already! The bleach didn't make a difference, other than damage my hair. He then tells me he could do some highlights, but that my hair couldn't take any more chemicals that day. He asked me to come back 2-3 days later, which I could not. He then says to come back later that day. So, suddenly my hair CAN take more chemicals?! Which one is it? I then paid him the full amount-which he should have, but did not refuse. He then had the nerve to tell me to call him to let him 'fix it'. He was the one who RUINED my hair and he wants me to come back??!! NEVER. I had to go elsewhere, to a stylist who knows what she is doing(and LISTENS to her clients) to fix it. She also had to cut 2" off because of the damage caused by Nunzio. He should hang up his scissors. Seriously. If you go to this salon, avoid Nunzio. It sounds like Bertha and Liz are the ones to see. read more

I must tell you.....I moved out to West Covina almost three years ago. I found employment at the best little Dental office and right next door I found an emerald of a place. My hair has been brown always. it was time for a change. I walked in and met the owner. I let her know it was time for a change. She looked at me and responded"I am just the person to help you with that". We went over a few details. I made an appointment. Her assistant gives the best scalp massages as she washes hair. There were highlights placed in just the right places. The owner will not allow us to look in the mirror until the job is complete. I moved to the area recently and got tired of various salons messing my hair up when it came to trimming my bangs and poor customer service. The other day I had started to call various salons in hope of finding a place that I could call home for my hair. I got tired of going from bad to worse with salons messing my hair up and always feeling like I had to give a history report about my hair and then spend the next ten mintues hoping that they would understand what it is I wanted done to my hair. I started calling around 5 pm and had dialed probably 15 places whom no one answered my call as if they were not in business, and only received 3 calls back about an hour later in which some were very rude. In last hope efforts I called this little heaven on earth. To my surprise on the first ring my call was answered with a very friendly voice on the other end. I had spoken with a very nice lady named Bertha. She answered my 50 some odd questions I had for her and was very polite throughout the whole time. I had then called back 2 other times in which the phone was once again answered each time I had called. I then went there to meet with her to get a better idea as to a price for my hair for highlights seeing as it had been over 10 months since my last visit to any salon. She quickly gave my an idea while taking the time to explain what was needed to be done after listening to what i wanted. She was friendly, warm, and cared about what would make me happy verses other places who only cared about how much money I had in my wallet. From there I made an appointment. She was able to get me in the next day which made me extremely happy due to my schedule. When I arrived, she took the time to once again confirm what she was going to do and the process for everything. Her assistant Celeste, who I hope I spelt her name right, was amazing in everything with no matter what it was. They both were very nice, caring and provided excellent customer service. I absolutely recommend them. I have long hair. My hair is probably 18" which puts it in the middle of my back just about the waist line. She trimmed my hair exactly like I had asked her to while not taking off more than I told her. She did a phenomenal job which was way better than I had described to her. If i could, I wouldn give her 20 stars, she is just that good. Don't waist your time with anyone else. Go to her, it is well worth your time and great price for your money. My words cannot express my happiness nor my appreciation for the job that both of the ladies did for me. I can finally say that my hair has found its happy ever after with its permanent home. read more

The worst experience in my life happened where yesterday- I would have helped sooner if I wasn't so depressed!!! I came in for a trim and color- my hair was long(right above my butt) she cut it just a little below the shoulder I felt like my hair died yesterday literally. There are no mirrors. I gave her a specific pic to go off of and she decided to do her own thing instead. Nothing was done right- not the color, not the trim(she gave me a cut instead) and she even had to put some extentions in that we're done wrong to try to confort me because I was balling so hard. Then she had the nerve to charge me full price as I am crying in front of her. Keep in mind before this all started I let her know I was going to the oscars and how important this was to me. I refused to pay full price- even anything but she insisted I pay at least half or I would be stealing. I gave her $45 to ruin my hair for my life and oscars. STAY AWAY!!!!not even her attemp to correct my hair by applying extentions was done right- she burned my hair- run as far away as possible!!!!Bertha and Liz made my once I a lifetime opportunity horrible at the oscars ms ruined my hair so bad I had to go pay again to get it fixed and I am not wearing a f&$?@ing bob hair cut when I just asked for.
