I'm sorry but I'm seriously confused!! This place has way too many stars and I don't know why! I just left this place and I won't be back as the falafel sucks and I know good falafel! This falafel was pulled out of freezer bag and tastes like it! The girl at the register picked something off of her lip and then grabbed the gloves to get back to work! I was disgusted and thankful she was only working the register! She should have washed her hands first but she was nice at least. I can't eat this food! The most irresponsible and annoying employees at this location while taking orders from the customers. Irregular proportions of food in each order even though all the orders are just duplicates of the same. This place is NOT HALAL. I went in last week, and they would not give us a straight answer about where the meat comes from. They did not show the Zabiha Halal certification either. This place is overhyped and is lying to Muslim customers who are under the impression that they serve halal food. If you haven't had this before, definitely come through and take a visit. It's a great value. If you had the one in New York, it's similar but don't make too many comparisons! I would order the combo plate: the protein is all well cooked and nothing dry. The protein is tasteful and pretty fresh... sometimes they'll take it straight off the grill once it's cooked! There are two sizes, I'd get the larger one so you can also take things home! I'd recommend getting the white sauce, it really complements the entire plate. The value is good since you do get a lot for what you pay for. I don't think the fries are worth it, they're good but definitely not anything you can't get elsewhere. Watch out for the hot sauce! The falafels are a tad dry and I'm not a fan. Service here is surprisingly not bad. They assembly line process moves decently efficient. If you eat in, they tend to send a guy around offering extra sauce every once in a while. Parking is annoying especially during busy times, the lot is a bit small. Having eaten at the original Halal Guys cart in NYC, I was excited to hear that Halal Guys was coming to Atlanta ! Life got in the way and it wasn't until recently that I was able to go and give the location on Buford highway a visit. I gotta say, they have stuck to their trademark winning formula and it is as good as it gets ! I got the combination platter with a huge serving of that delicious white sauce that they make. The chicken and gyro were both tasty and succulent. I got a piece of the Baklava as well and it is great. The location is a little far out for me and for anyone that lives in the city. One of the only downsides was the unavailability of parking in the lot (which is right adjacent to what seems to be a seedy massage place). I will certainly come by again. read more

My wife and I eat at Halal Guys all the time. It's quick, the food is delicious everytime, the service is always friendly and very clean. We had a bit of a blunder the other day when I forgot my wallet at home and after making the realization, were about to drive home to grab money and come back. Tay was kind enough to let us off the hook and give me my food for free- it really made our life a lot easier. It also reiterates the "local" style culture that we love about Halal Guys. I told the lady at the counter that it was my first visit, and I was interested in buying two platters to go. Both my wife and have a problem with gluten and neither like tomatoes, so I asked if she could substitute something else for both. "Nope" she said. "But what if I don't want them?" I inquired. So torn between a 3 and 4 stars, because I had such fond memories of the Halal Guys, albeit it was some time ago. Unfortunately, I have to round down to a 3 for my experience. I was super-stoked to hear they made their way to the ATL. The Halal Guys serve middle eastern/mediterranean staples: gyro, hummus, pita, baba ganoush, and even baklava. Three weeks post grand-opening and you can still find the line out the door most of the time. The Halal Guys did a great job branding themselves and their marketing undoubtedly added to the excitement. My shawty and I stopped by for lunch today and I was a tad bit disappointed by the price, food, and service. Nostalgia can suck sometimes. The parking lot was packed when we arrived, so we parked at the lot of a closed down business next door. The line was not quite out the door but still pretty long. It seemed longer because the space is so small. Luckily, it moved steadily. My bf and I shared the regular combo (chicken, gyro, 2 baby pita slices, rice, tomato and salad) and hummus. It's a pretty generous serving for one person, and just perfect for two people with small appetite to share. They only had white sauce packets left. Usually, they'd dispense the white sauce onto the platter for us. As we moved towards the front of the line, I realized what the bottleneck was...one of the employees was definitely slacking. He was working at too casual a pace and compared to the other diligent employees. It irked me that he forgot things, for several customers, including us (forgot to add pita to our hummus) even though his job was to packaged things and ring up customers. I do appreciate the other employees who stepped in to help keep the line moving. The food itself is decent for fast food mediterranean, but I remembered it tasting so good when I first had it. Super friendly staff. Everyone was really personal for a Friday night/early Saturday morning. We stopped in about an hour before closing (2am). They are generous with their portion sizes. So glad the line was not outside the door. I tried the "white sauce" that so many raved about. Ehh, its okay, but I would prefer the traditional tzatziki sauce, which is not an available option. I was full when I got the sandwich so waited until the next day and had it for lunch. I warmed it up on my oven. It was good. To be fair, it was not the best gyro I have had but I did not eat it right away either. However, I would stop back in again. The staff won me over more than anything. The bathroom was broken in their first full week so hopefully that will be fixed soon. read more

I have never had Mediterranean food before so this was my first time. The Halal Guys is located on Buford Highway, which is a plus for me since I live close. There was so much talk about this place when it was being built and the expectations were super high from all of the things I've heard about it so I was hoping for some good food. Since everyone's excited about this establishment, this place gets packed! I saw lines wrap up all the way outside during the weekends. I waited for a weekday to try it out but even then, it was busy. There's limited seating in the building and a few tables outside but the building in general isn't super big so don't expect to be able to order and sit down. My friends and I would order the food and take it back home with us. So to the food - it was good. Simple, but good. It's like a Chipotle and you choose what you want on your platter (or gyro but I haven't tried that yet). However, they don't offer as many options. I stuck to the platter and I usually do the combo (chicken and beef). It comes with rice, lettuce, and tomatoes, but I leave the tomatoes out. Then you can add the white sauce and hot sauce. Be warned that the hot sauce is very spicy! Then you also have the option to add jalapenos, onions, and a few other items. The platter currently comes in two sizes - regular or large. I've been about three times now and I notice if you don't tell them what platter size you want, they assume you want the large, but that's just from my experience. So since this is my first time eating Mediterranean, I might not know any better seeing some of the other reviews I've seen but I think the food is good. I really like the white sauce with just a hint of that red hot sauce. The rice and meat are good too. I think the price is a little too high for what I'm getting though. Service is fast and friendly. The Halal Guys is a fast food restaurant serving Mediterranean food. I couldn't believe how popular this place was. It certainly wasn't because the food tasted good. I guess it's because it's one of the few fast food place that serves Mediterranean food. The place is like Moe's. You go in and order your food and add stuff to it. They have 2 sandwiches (gyros) you can get: chicken and beef. They also have platters too. You have an option to get lettuce and tomato for your gyro with a choice of bbq, white, or hot sauce. The white is a mayo based sauce with some seasonings. One of the problems with this place is the noise. It's loud in there, and it's hard to hear the staff when they talk to you. They ask a lot of questions like what side do you want, what stuff do you want in your gyro, what sauce you want, etc. So it's important to know what they say. It's hard to hear. Like I mentioned, this place is a fast food restaurant. So the quality is fast food quality. The gyro I had was okay. It wasn't anything special. You can easily find better places elsewhere in Atlanta. Their hummus was meh. You can probably find better ones at Publix. Overall, it's a mediocre place. Too many Arab dudes executing this concept a lot better throughout the 5 Burroughs now. With the especially high turnover since opening, you can tell the frozen gyro meat isn't given proper time to thaw. I was very disappointed to hear NO LAMB MEAT!!!! I don't think I've ever had the chicken or beef going back to early 2000. Beef shawarma will generally be dry, especially when it comes in frozen. The chicken shawarma includes breast meat which is traditionally supposed to be thighs. My general order at 53rd - double lamb and rice, double red, and triple white. Super simple, it's unavailable. The hummus, baba, and falafel were nothing out of the ordinary...what you get at a run of the mill Mediterranean spot in Atl. I've been to the food truck in NYC and was excited to know they have expanded to Atlanta. This is not a food truck, it's a storefront location with the same food. I actually enjoyed my gyro platter here more than I did in NYC (imagine that). I got the beef gyro platter without rice, so just beef and lettuce with both the spicy hot sauce and the white sauce. It was yummy and prepared quickly in line while I waited and watched. The meal was about $9. Tip: eat this meal while it's warm. If you have had Halal guys in New York and then ate Halal guys on Buford Highway, well then you can taste the difference. Opening day, staff is great and friendly. It was super cold weather and you have a long line that made you wait 2-3 hours. Would it have been so expensive to offer hot drinks? A DJ that plays music right where the people are lining up. Despite taste failing my expectations. There is the things you do in New York and the Things you do in Georgia. Its different, you can't help it. ( What I mean specifically is that whoever owns or co-owns and manages this Halal Guys obviously did not have a lot of restaurant experience in Georgia) Parking was a pain in the ass, and just looking at future parking spots, still a pain in the ass. I just love Buford Highway for it's diversity . One could taste food from all over the world yet, not leave Atlanta. Halal Guys is one of those super quick fast food spots on Buford Highway. The food is tasty and filling. Very simple menu, so don't come expecting anything fancy. It's a food truck food served from a brick and mortar store. If that's what you're in the mood for (which I was), you'll be happy you went. One big complaint: there are only about 6 or 7 tables in the store, and it's a free-for-all. This means that people who think they are more important than you will split their party and have their friends hold a table while the others wait in line. Because of this, people who have their food cannot sit down because the tables are being reserved for the people behind them in line. We saw one pair of guys have to eat standing next to the trash can because three tables were being held for people in line. I had to make a couple get up because that hadn't ordered yet tried to snag a table from is just as we got our food. Moral: don't be inconsiderate when you go there. Wait until you have your food to take a table. And call people out if they're reserving and making you stand up. Better yet, the store should have a seating policy so customers aren't having to fend for themselves. read more

I went here twice. The first time I got the beef gyro. This was ok ...nothing extravagant so I wanted to give the platter a try. On my 2nd trip I was very disappointed with my beef platter. First my entire platter (meat, rice , salad ) was flooded with whatever this 'white' sauce is. It is disgusting! What ever happened to the regular tzatziki sauce! To me this mysterious 'white' sauce tastes extremely similar to the likes of ranch dressing. Next, i managed to get a piece of beef that had little to no sauce on it....so I could be able to accurately judge the quality and savor the flavor of the meat. The meat was very bland! Now I see why they soak your food in this white sauce because the actual food has no flavor. I'm not sure how so many people eat here and are satisfied. I was very disappointed with my food product. I have never had the original Halal guys but I highly doubt they have become so popular in NYC serving this garbage. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that In NYC the food is much better. Messages to business looking to expand in the south, particularly Atlanta: Don't feel like you have to adjust your ingredients to cater to the southern palate. For one , Atlanta is a diverse city and you will more than likely have a community of people who have experienced your product and are use its authenticity. And also, we don't want you to take the chance and alter a key ingredient that gave you your success in the first place. I loved the concept, the location, the staff and most importantly, the food. Come to the present, the staff has changed and they are extremely impolite and the food has degraded tremendously. Grand Opening Day! As you would expect of anything overhyped, the lines were ridiculously long. The restaurant didn't even open till 11am and there were about 400 people in line awaiting their chance to get a taste of an originally New York treat. For a grand opening, there wasn't anything really "grand" about it. They had a very small ribbon cutting ceremony, they had a DJ booth and speakers set up, but I guess it got too cold for the DJ because the only music was from the chattering of teeth. Parking was atrocious, but once the hype dies down, I'm sure it will be more than enough since the restaurant itself fits about 30 people comfortably. The first 50 people were awarded a free meal. Everyone gets a free drink if they register their loyalty program information on their website. The NEXT 200 people got free t-shirts. The handing out of t-shirts was a mess. People were pushing each other out of the way, including staff members, to reach into the box of shirts to grab one for themselves. Let's learn to be civil people... Eventually the staff members took away the boxes and began tossing shirts out to people. The doors opened at about 11:02am. Making sure not to break any fire safety rules, people were let into the restaurant in groups. The staff inside was well prepared to serve thousands of people. They were efficient in getting peoples' food ready and checked out. It just sucks that those who weren't part of the first 30 people would have to find seating elsewhere. I've had The Halal Guys at the original 53rd and 6th on multiple occasions. The best part of having The Halal Guys in New York is that it's available late at night, after any drunken adventures. As you wait in line, you can smell the scent of seasonings and meat fill the air, your appetite growing for it ever more. On chilly nights, your anticipation grows even more. Your platter is freshly prepared for you, at times your meal is even prayed for in front of you by the grill chef. You take your platter to the side of the cart and fill it with their famous white sauce. If you're into spicy or something more tangy, they do have hot sauce and bbq sauce but be advised, a little bit of hot sauce goes a LONNNNNG way. You finally grab a seat somewhere nearby and dig into your well deserved meal/snack. THIS is not the type of experience you will have here. The food is prepared in advance, you do; however, get to smell the food being prepared from the parking lot, you don't get a personal interaction with the people serving you your food or the others waiting in line with you. The worst part of it all is that they don't offer lamb as an option of meat. What is Halal without the lamb?! The entire experience is destroyed at a B&M store. By the time I got ready to eat my food, it had cooled down substantially, the meat was a bit dry, and it just didn't seem to bring back any nostalgic memories of my experiences eating from the cart. The food is more expensive for smaller portions, kind of the opposite of what a patron would want from anywhere.. good for the business owners though. Overall... it was okay. I'll probably still come back just because it's the closest thing in Atlanta to The Halal Guys in New York.. it'll just be some time after the craziness has died down. read more

I hate to rate this place a two star, but it doesn't compare to the one in NYC! There was no sort of line organization, and I had a group yelled at me for coming in while they were in a big circle taking up the whole space. I had the small combo platter. The rice was bland and not cooked all the way; it still had that hardness to it instead of soft and sticky. The meats good but the portion was WEAK!! The employees here was unfriendly and seem unhappy to be there. I guess because I went to the OG location, this place didn't satisfy me and was over price. The first time that I'd ever had halal was in NY and it was bomb (really good)! I was set on finding a restaurant near me that sold halal the same way that I had it. When I found this location, I was completely satisfied! CONS: 1) Its location can be a little hard to find. The directions on Yelp attaches Northwest to the address. However, that takes you to an opposite direction. So if you use the Yelp addy, be sure not to include "NW". This is the correct address: 4929 Buford Hwy, Atlanta, GA, 30341, United States. When you put in the correct address, the building comes up fast making it easy to miss. It's on the corner of Buford & Chamblee Tucker. I definitely have mixed feelings about this incarnation of the Halal Guys food cart. Let me start by saying that I've eaten at the original food cart in NYC numerous times. With that said, there are definitely noticeable differences between the original and this location. The good: The food itself is still tasty. I had a combo platter, which was half chicken and half gyro served over rice with lettuce, tomatoes, and pita pieces. They also offer falafel, and the platters come in two sizes. You can also opt for a sandwich (a platter wrapped in a pita). The service was quick and friendly, and the actual restaurant seemed clean. The bad: The sauces are NOT the way they are on the original food cart. The "famous" white sauce is supposed to be a yogurt based tzatziki sauce, where as at this location is it a mayonnaise base instead. The difference is very noticeable. I'll go on the record as saying that I don't like mayo in any form, but I can attest that the original cart uses a yogurt base. The hot sauce (which is VERY hot) is also different. Here it is more of a paste, compared to the original which has more of a salsa-like consistency. The hot sauce was still good, just not as good. Also, the gyro is beef instead of lamb...felt that was worth mentioning as well. My take is that with the success of the original food cart, they had to devise a way to more cost effectively mass produce their sauces. The result is a noticeably different product for those of us that were familiar with the Halal Guys before they arrived in Atlanta. With all that said, I will go back, but I'll likely order it to go and make my own tzatziki sauce at home. read more

I like that HG is bringing a new type of cuisine to the area, but I feel like compared to other places I frequent that have similar menu items -- HG just isn't living up to the hype for me. First, the service really is stellar. I will give them that. It was late afternoon when I went, so it was only moderately busy (I've driven by previously and seen the line going out the door and into the parking lot). But everyone was still very quick and helpful. They even let me try the white sauce and the hot sauce before I completed my order. I ordered the chicken and rice platter. The portions are good. I've heard some people complain about too much lettuce and tomato, but I love veggies and thought everything was portioned nicely. The rice was kind of plain and a little dry. The chicken was flavorful, but also pretty dry. I liked the pita. The hot sauce was way too hot for me (and I like spicy), and the white sauce kind of tastes like the sauce you get from a hibachi place made a baby with tzatziki. read more

We now have the infamous NYC food cart right here in Atlanta! This is a late post, as we went to the grand opening several months ago. The chicken shawarma bowl was flavorful, tender and juicy. The addition of lettuce, tomatoes and their special sauce all merry very well together. The food was great, but since we didn't get a true feel for customer service I'm only giving 4 stars. I've always thought Buford Highway needed more Middle Eastern/Halal options, so Halal Guys is a great addition! I haven't had the original from the cart in NY, but the 2 experiences I've had here were pretty solid. I came once for an early lunch during their "soft opening". No line, it was glorious! It has that assembly line set up where you order your food and tell them what you want on it. My friend, who is pretty much the unofficial spokesperson for Halal Guys, recommended the Combo Platter, which comes with yellow rice (heavy on the saffron), chicken, gyro, lettuce, tomato, pita, onions+ green bell peppers (if you ask), and your choice of sauces. There are 2 sizes- small and regular. The regular is only like $1 more and comes with way more food (enough for leftovers), so go big or go home. It is around $8 for small and $9 for regular. I have also had their falafel, baba ghanoush and hummus sides. The falafel was ok, nothing to write home about. The baba ghanoush and hummus came with extra pita, and were very good for the price (~$2.75 each). The sauces-- there are white, barbecue and hot. The hot is extremely spicy! If you don't do well with spice, I recommend avoiding it all together, or getting a packet and trying a tiny bit on the side. If you let them squirt it on your food-- you might end up crying, I may or may not be speaking from experience. The barbecue sauce is good, and the white sauce is amazing - kind of like tzatziki mixed with ranch? Ignorance is bliss, don't look at how many calories it is. Service is extremely fast, space/parking is limited. I would say it is probably half the size of your typical Mcdonald's in terms of size. Pro-tip: sign up for the rewards card, you get a free drink upon sign up and other goodies that may be worth it if you plan on eating here a lot. The line moved on pretty quickly as the options are simple: a plater or a sandwich. I got the falafel regular size plater to go. The rice was pretty good, you can taste the Mediterranean authentic spices on it! The falafel was fresh and Incredibly tasty! Accompanied it with a must have: the white sauce, it marries the plate together. They add couple of pieces of pita that were freshly made and warm. Overall delicious. It does not get 5 stars because half of the plate was iceberg lettuce, PLAIN iceberg lettuce.... unless you own a pet turtle it's a bit exaggerated in quantity IMO. read more

Heard so much about this place. Took my kids and went. Forget the food, whole story of its own! The place is filthy as heck!!!! On our way home my kids started to get ill. Violently ill! Really bad we ended up in the ER. I will NEVER recommend this place TO ANYONE! Horrible! A friend of mine got sick after as well!!! Apparently, they have a reputation. Everyone here is being WAY WAY WAY to critical. If this wasn't attached to the Halal Guys street cart name, the reviews would not be THREE STARS - thats insane. Yes, the lines are long and the food is slightly more expensive than New York. The staff aren't as adept at handling large lines like they do in New York. But is the food good? Yes! It tastes 95% like it does in New York. Is it cheap? Yes, it's still less than $10 for a meal that will give you At first I felt like this location was being stingy with the white sauce, but they have since been more open. They also seem like they're getting better at handling a line! I would definitely drop by if you get a chance! Recommendations: Get the combination with no salad and extra white sauce OR If you want low carb get the combination with no rice or bread and salad with extra white sauce. read more
