Select the finishings. Well, the subcategories will getcha. Hummus is extra, and so are olives. Not really sure who has the monopoly on olives and hummus, but sheesh. I went out on a limb and ordered the hummus. NO REGRETS. It was amazing. The veggies are typical. But then the sauces. They have a white sauce, I asked what it was and the answer was white sauce. And sure enough, had a doggie bag to go. That said, my appetite is fairly easily satisfied. Someone with a regular - lol - the servings should suffice for one serving. As far as the flavor, it was consistent from the catered lunch, the beef being a little dry. And the white sauce, though helpful, didn't *shine*. The hubs and I went on this snowy day in Georgia and were the only dine-in customers (yay!). Most either did the to-go option or delivery. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality. The portion size of the hubs' spicy chicken platter was pretty generous. My beef gyro sandwich was pretty plain Jane in size and appearance. The quality of the beef gyro was on point. The pita wrap was really fluffy and warm. The beef was a semi-thick cut that was flavorful and moist. Though the filling only had lettuce, tomatoes, and the white sauce (generously added), it tasted superb. The hubs' pick of the spicy chicken platter in a regular came with more than expected quantities. I really liked their rice as it had a nice color pop and was tasty. The spicy chicken wasn't that spicy, but in conjunction with the red spicy sauce, there's a slight kick in flavor. This place has good and quick food if you're in the mood for it. All the food that I've tasted has been pretty good. I have tried the chicken and the chicken shawarma, and they were really good. I tried the beef, it was okay. It could have used a little bit of flavor but it was still very good and tender. They load you up with all the toppings. It's basically falling out of the rap, which is good. I suggest getting a fork because you're going to have to pick the rest up after it falls out of the wrap! It can't get a little bit messy but that's just the cost of doing business! Everybody seems to greet you when you walk in the door and everybody's very polite and friendly. read more

We came here to eat dinner last week on Tuesday night at about 7:40 pm. The Halal Guys is on the corner at the intersection of Buford Hwy and Chamblee Tucker Rd in Chamblee. The free parking lot provides ample spaces for customers. The menu is pretty simple and straightforward; entrees are sold as platters (bowls in small or regular sizes) or sandwiches (one size). Platters come with rice, lettuce, tomato and pita. Sandwiches come with lettuce, tomato and pita. Entree protein choices include beef gyro, chicken, beef and chicken combo or falafel. Choice of veggie toppings include green peppers, onions, jalapeños and olives. Sauce choices include white, hot and tahini. Optional sides include hummus, fries, pita chips, falafel and baba ghanoush. Optional desserts include cookies, baklava and baklava cheesecake. Optional beverages include bottled or fountain drinks. We walked in, and about 6 customers were eating at various tables, taking up about half of the tables. Tall stools provide additional seating at an L-shaped counter that also doubles as a barrier between the queue and the dining area. While the employees were scooping up food for a couple ahead of us, we made our decisions from the menu. The employees created our platters as we told them what ingredients we wanted. We both got the beef and chicken combo as a platter (which really is in a bowl format), with the rice, lettuce, tomato, pita and white sauce (mayo?). I added olives to my platter, and R added jalapeños. R checked in on Yelp, and there was a 10% off discount offered, so he showed the employee, who just disregarded it. R looked at his receipt after he paid and the discount wasn't applied. After talking to the manager, the manager resolved this by giving me a free fountain drink, and writing out and signing a piece of paper that he gave to R stating that we could get 10% off the next time we each made purchases. Although the beef was good, I really liked the flavor of the grilled chicken, so I highly suggest ordering the chicken in a platter. The regular size is a pretty good portion of food, so, if you're piggies like us, or if want leftovers, get the regular size platter. Btw, we ate everything because we were extremely hungry, plus everything was delicious together. I judge a halal spot by their falafel. We placed an order for 4 and, needless to say, this spot was definitely underwhelming. The falafel was either overcooked or old (or both). In addition, the tahini sauce, no lie, tasted like tobacco. My wife had one and couldn't stand them. I ordered the beef gyro (sandwich) with tomato, lettuce, onion, tahini, and 2 lines of hot sauce. It was just alright. I felt that the beef had been sitting for awhile. The 2 lines of hot sauce was perfect. Since it was my first time eating there, the lady recommended that I do not put more than 2 lines on the gyro. Thankfully I took that recommendation because it is spicy. I found that it added a nice flavor, but caution if you do not like spicy food! The gyro is priced correctly for the size. My wife ordered the combo platter and was not impressed. She mentioned that she could not tell the difference in taste between the different meats. I will say that you absolutely get more food in the platter than ordering a gyro. Inside dining was clean, but it is definitely a fast food halal joint. Think of Taco Bell for Halal food. Everyone was abiding by the mandatory mask rule inside, however, I did not see spacing between the tables for distancing. One of the men/women restrooms was closed (no clue why). The staff was not very friendly in addition. No greeting on the way in or the way out. We went around 8 p.m. on a Wednesday night. There was only one person dining in when we arrived. It was late on a Saturday and I was tired of the same old places. Growing up in NY I've eaten at the original carts on 6th ave a million times. The food here was very good. What was impressive is they were still making fresh batches of food at 11:30p.m. They are open until 1am on Friday and Saturdays. You aren't being served stuff that was cooked earlier and just sitting in the hot bins for hours. But beyond the how good the food was the lady that helped me. Nonetheless I wanted to enjoy my meal on the spacious balcony outside, so I began my order. I ordered a combo plate with chicken/beef, rice, salad, and a side order of Falafels. The staff was extremely kind! Fast, smiles, and even asked how my food was after I ate and exited the store. The food was tasty, but not enough to make me come back. It was very blah. Literally Chipotle style for a mideast cuisine. Generally, when I have food from this region of the world, It's very tasty and fresh. The meat quality could've been subpar but I wouldn't of noticed because that white sauce is magical. The sauce alone probably has more calories than a Big Mac. I like spicy so I should've asked for more red sauce. $9 for a gyro is kind of pricey. My wife's beef gyro was larger than what I remember from my local Mediterranean Grill but the white sauce oozed out of both sides and made it a little bit too messy. $13 for the specialty large spicy chicken platter with jalapenos, green peppers, and olives. This was a decent deal because I couldn't finish it in one sitting. The chicken wasn't that spicy but the red sauce kicked it up a notch. I think next time I'll go with gyro meat and save a dollar. Simple, Fresh and Consistent -- Halal Guys is our spot at least once a week! This location is off Buford Highway and there is a small lot so parking is never an issue. If there's a line, it will move fast. I have never had to wait at this location. They have wrap options but I always go for the gyro and chicken bowl. You can choose from a regular or small bowl, but the regular bowl (around $12) can easily last you 2 meals and the price difference is only 2 dollars. The meat is delicious and it tastes sooo good with turmeric rice and the veggies. Seriously never feel "bad" or too bloated from eating this food, its very fresh. The white sauce is a MUST and they will add as much as you want--even if its a ridiculous amount! Be weary of the red sauce, ask for a sample if you aren't sure because it is the best hot sauce ever but SO SPICY. I add 1 to 2 lines of it to my meal AT MOST. That being said, the food was delicious and I'm confident if you choose to order takeout or delivery you won't be disappointed. I had the gyro platter which was a really nice sized portion. The meat was very juicy and flavorful. I enjoyed all the sauces as well but be careful of the red sauce as it's pretty spicy! I'd recommend balancing it out with the white sauce. Even though you order at the counter and your food is brought out to you, the staff still stopped by while we were dining to ask if we needed anything else. I've driven past this place so many times down in Chamblee as well as passed by so many of their carts when I went to NY, so I was super excited to come try it out finally when they opened in Atlanta. The menu is super simple which I appreciate- sandwich or platter, chicken or gyro are basically the only choices you need to make here. Overall it reminds me of a chipotle in a way because you get rice, lettuce, tomatoes, meat, onions, peppers, and their famous white sauce. I got the small platter and that portion was more than enough for me for lunch! The workers are super efficient here and the seating area is clean. A soda to share between me and my fiance'. Life is great! Its always a nice treat to have whenever going to a city that has one of these establishments. The place is nice and clean,, there's ample seating everywhere. The employees are really nice a friendly. They even come out on the floor every so often to see if anybody needs anymore sauces and such. Like the ever so popular white sauce and my favorite red sauce. The Halal Guys launched to much hype and fanfare earlier this year, January 2017, at the corner of Buford Highway and Chamblee Tucker Road. The restaurant opened to mixed reviews. The crowds have died down and now it's very quick to pick up a meal here. This is the first Georgia location for this New York-based fast-casual halal chain which has hundreds of locations worldwide. The restaurant is located in an old, but renovated, standalone building. There's adequate parking (about 25 spaces). Inside, you stand in line to order, a la Chipotle, and pay upfront. Most sandwiches or plates are assembled on the spot, though some orders, such as the falafel, may require a short wait. Water, fountain drinks, and tea are bottled or self-serve. There's a single unisex restroom which requires a numeric code (2727). The restaurant isn't very big. The dining room has 6 4-person tables (24 seats) and 9 seats at the counter which faces the windows looking out towards Buford Highway northbound. The relatively spacious, fenced-in and elevated, uncovered outdoor patio has at least 6 more 4-person tables. About half of the patio tables have umbrellas. Inside and out, the place can accommodate about 60+ customers total for dine-in. Takeout is a popular option. A good thing about Halal Guys: They're open late -- until 11pm, Sunday-Thursday, and 1am on Friday and Saturday nights. The menu is simple and the food is affordable. You can get a chicken or beef gyro sandwich (pita wrap) for $6.79 or a combo (chicken and gyro) or falafel platter for $7.79 (small) or $8.79 (large). Sides and dessert include hummus, baba ghanouj, falafel, fries, and baklava, all for under $3 each. I've tried both the combo and falafel platters. Between the chicken, gyro, and falafel, I think the gyro tastes the best, hands down. It's too bad you can't get just a gyro platter. That stuff is addictive. Like other Mediterranean restaurants, Halal Guys has spits of gyro meat spinning in their open kitchen, with griddles, behind the counter. Halal Guys slices their gyro meat into small morsels, smaller than most gyro joints I've been to. The meat itself is soft, super savory, and packed with flavor. I could just keep eating and eating it. The chicken, falafels, and sides are OK. They're not anything to write home about, but not bad either. The falafels are medium to large size (bigger than the size of golf balls). The falafels are deep-fried fresh. Their texture and consistency is fine, though I've had crispier and tastier falafels at several other places. An important part of a meal at Halal Guys is the sauce. There's a "white sauce" and a hot sauce. The white sauce is mayo-based and, according to one of the staff, contains a blend of 14 secret spices. The hot sauce is legitimately hot, so use it sparingly unless you love spicy food. They also have tahini sauce for the falafels. Typically, the sauces are squeezed out of squeeze bottles on top of your sandwich or platter ingredients, but you can ask for them on the side. The white sauce and hot sauce are also available in packets. The sauces are yummy and I think they're a must on the chicken and falafel. The gyro meat, in my opinion, is tasty enough on its own to not warrant sauce. Platter sides can include orange-yellow rice, chopped white onion, tomato, and green bell pepper, shredded iceberg lettuce, and pita bread triangles. With the exception of the rice which has a bit of flavor to it, the sides are basic and plain. They're fresh and of satisfactory quality. Fries (ordered separately) are served in a takeout container, similar to a Chinese takeout box. The fries are fairly standard, salted, and crinkle-cut. The baklava is good. The dessert is pre-sliced and packaged in clear plastic snap-shut containers. The baklava is expectedly flaky, sweet, and rich. It's not as nutty as most other baklava I've had, but still scrumptious. If you like baklava, this one is worth trying. Service is excellent. The employees are friendly and do an efficient job. If dining in, they'll walk around from table to table making sure everyone has enough sauce. In the end, I give The Halal Guys in Chamblee 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. Generally, the food is fine. It doesn't stand out from the competition with the exception of the gyro meat which is delicious. The meals are fast, relatively healthy and filling, and a decent value. Let's just start off with getting to the cash register. First off, the service was extremely slow and it felt like they didn't know what they were doing. Noted, we were one of the first ones there, but when you open your doors, the restaurant should be open right? With this thought, the food should be ready to go, everyone should be situated, etc. This place? Nope. It seemed like the employees were just hanging around and taking their time. So how was the gyro at least? Nothing like NY. There was absolutely no flavor. The sauce that they served at this location was bland? If you're going to just slather in sauce, you might as just use water because that's how bland it was. It wasn't even flavorful. I was hoping to replicate my experience from NY, but what I got was just disappointment. And what made it worse was that I came for a birthday lunch! All in all, I wouldn't recommend you to come to this location to get your first taste of Halal Guys. To be honest, I feel like the correct and the right location is in NY or at least a food truck, but obviously is pretty difficult. The chicken that came straight off the grill was cold. The gyro was super dry (how does that even happen). The platter was 70% lettuce and tomatoes. The amount of white sauce added to the platter was ridiculous as almost everything would be covered with sauce if you didn't stop the person making the plate. It was like they knew that the gyro was dry. We didn't order falafel, but ended up paying and eating it anyway as it seemed too much problem for the cashier to figure out the system and cancel her mistake (maybe she was new?) I thought the gyro was okay (they hardly gave me any meat) and the fries was stuff I could buy at Kroger's. The ice tea was a bit watery....just some friendly advice...this is the south and you don't wanna mess with our ice tea.....but the service was very friendly.
