I order from The Halal Guys quite possibly every month via services like Uber Eats/Postmates. Not only is the food absolutely delicious (and very consistently so), but I love the fact that I could order from here pretty late in the night compared to many other restaurants that are normally closed with their business hours. My go-to dish is the Chicken Gyro platter with extra meat and you have to...I mean HAVE TO...get that white sauce packet. It truly does bring everything together. But even without it, I still enjoyed the dish. Grab a couple of falafels on the side as an option and you're good to go. I'd say The Halal Guys is pretty good overall and definitely worth ordering out from (never been to the actual restaurant before) as the option size is very satisfying as is the flavors. P.S. My only negative, and this is a very tiny one, is that I tried the hot sauce packet one day and really didn't care for it much. This is just a personal preference for me but I enjoy spicy foods when the spice element actually has a tasty flavor to accompany it whereas I felt the hot sauce packet was just pure heat with nothing else. After months of annoying anticipation and hype, The Halal Guys finally opened their doors in Atlanta for the first time. I chose not to go on opening day since that's never been a good idea, in my book. While driving by one day, I noticed it was open several days before the grand opening, so I ventured in. There wasn't a line, which was amazing. However, the tiny dining area of literally 6-7 tables were completely full. Why build a storefront if you can't accommodate seating? I've been to both a store and the food cart in NYC. I've never had a chance to eat it fresh, so I was excited to have the chance to eat it piping hot. I ordered the small combo platter (both gyro and chicken) with white sauce on top and hot sauce on the side. Since there wasn't an empty table indoors, we had no choice but to sit in the cold. I'm not sure if my food was instantly chilled the second I walked out the doors to the outdoor seating, but my first bite of chicken and gyro was cold. Yikes. Felt like I was eating from the food cart in the city, but at a higher cost for less food. I came again a month later for a chicken bowl, hoping for a shorter line with better results. Even after a month, there is still no seating indoors (even though there were probably only 20 people inside the restaurant) with some people sharing tables with strangers to get a seat. We ended up eating outside, again, at the exact same time. It wasn't as cold as the first time I ate here, but it was wet from the morning rain, so we stood at the table to eat our food. This was great! So, I met my husband here for lunch. We decided to come again because we attempted to come on Grand opening day and the line was massive. We had our one year old with us and I knew he wouldn't last but a few minutes in that line. Today, there was a kine but when I arrived at 210p, we were seated and eating by 230. I got the chicken platter with extra white sauce. The white sauce was delicious.my chicken was seasoned just right and the lettuce was fresh and crispy! I don't care to much for tomatoes I didn't get this added. You can also get onions if your little heart desires! I told my husband we'll come back once a week because this was the perfect lunch. Plus, I had some left over for dinner. The assembly line could use some work because if I wasn't watching, I'd have gotten the wrong order but that'll come with time. I'm sure they'll perfect the technique and make the orders with ease in no time. They charge for water so I declined but other than that I don't have any complaints. So I thought their food was just ok. I've had better gyros - right here in Atlanta. Maybe part of the blame is all the hype, the long lines, lone wait times, high expectations. Go early to beat the lunch crowd - I got there about 11:15 and there were several open parking spots, and the line wasn't bad and moved fast. Only a few tables - i think the place is designed more for takeout. Staff was very nice. Pricing is simple - $6.79 (sandwiches), $7.79 (small platter) and $8.79 (large platter). Looking at the platters, you're basically getting a deconstructed gyro and then rice makes up 1/2 the platter space. Since I decided to make my money so further (I'm Frugal Foodie after all), I got the combo sandwich (so I could try their chicken and gyro beef - FYI, no traditional gyro lamb here, just beef), plus 1 order of falafel (2 for $1). COMBO SANDWICH - $6.79 Sandwich is quite large - comes w/ gyro beef (very flavorful), chicken (good but nothing special), lettuce (iceberg - boo) and tomato. Then you can request chopped onions, green peppers and whole olives. I requested white sauce on the side b/c from the pictures, it looked like the platters and sandwiches were drenched. The sauce packet is quite large - looking at the ingredients and also based on taste, I thought it tasted like mayo ... but everyone's been raving about the white sauce so maybe my palate is off. I avoided the red sauce since the reviews mentioned it's really very spicy. Overall sandwich was good - I ended up deconstructing it though b/c I thought the pita bread was too thick. FALAFEL - $1 for 2 The falafels were pretty good but not "out of this world" good :) Served w/ tzatziki sauce. I might try the fries next time. Overall, it's still a welcome addition to Buford Hwy - I don't think we have any other Mediterranean food options in this central hub of BuHi. My coworker and I came here for lunch and we thought getting there at 11:30am, we would avoid the long lines but the line was already out the door! Parking is limited during high traffic times so if you're limited on time, I would get there earlier. We waiting about 20 minutes in line but I think it was worth the wait or maybe we were just super hungry. Food: I ordered the Regular Combo Platter with all three sauces. You get white, spicy and bbq. The Combo comes with Gyro meat and chicken. Every platter has lettuce, tomatoes, and pita bread. It was really good and flavorful! My coworker ordered the fries and I stole a few from him. They were really really good. Not too salty and perfect amount of crunch. I'm excited to return when the lines get shorter :) read more

Halal! Official grand opening is suppose to be 1/28 (this Sat) at 11AM where the first 50 will get free platters and a drink and first 200 will get a shirt. So glad I didn't have to wait as they're currently open for soft opening! Good luck to those on Saturday lol. Today was a half day for me so I was able to go during a non-busy hour to ensure I didn't have to wait in line. Halal is located on the intersection of Chamblee Tucker and Buford Hwy and you cannot miss it with the bright yellow roof! There's plenty of parking provided and some tables inside as well as some outside seating, which sort of reminds you of Checkers tables. But overall, more meant for togos. I got lucked out with no wait as I put in my order. There was plenty of staff members cooking and staff to get you through the line. I loved that the manager was enthusiastic and full of energy (as you can see from the picture, he was smiling for the camera lol). Though I don't think the other staff members were as happy. Regardless, I ordered a chicken and beef platter, which came out to $18.81 and not so sure if I got charged for extra sauce since I didn't check, but they gave me white sauces to go, as well as a hot sauce, that is SUPER SPICY even for my Korean tongue that you only need one... Got home and tried out both chicken and beef and loved the beef so much more! This is my second time trying and in NY, I had ordered the chicken and hated it but with so much hype and anticipation for this location I wanted to give it another try and I'm glad I did. I typically don't like gyros, but the beef tasted like perfectly seasoned ground beef with a bit of earthy taste that usual gyros have, just enough for me to endure. I came here hoping for the same great taste as the iconic The Halal Guys in NYC. The presentation is very similar, as it is served in a silver disposable container, and the food is plated very similarly. Unfortunately, the taste didn't come close to replicating the one in New York. I ordered the Combo Chicken and Gyro Platter, and the meat wasn't as good and the red hot sauce tasted off to me. I am a true Halal Cart follower, anytime a trip to Midtown Manhattan is even remotely possible I make it happen JUST to get that glorious combination platter (for which I will gladly wait in a long line, and enjoy dining on a curb in single digit temperatures shrouded in mysterious manhole cover street steam). When I learned they opened standalone stores in ATL, I had to make it happen! Flavor-wise, it was a pretty satisfying trip down memory lane. Be warned, Halal Guys isn't fine dining (throwing you a bone all you iceberg lettuce haters out there) and if you haven't experienced the original, this may be lost on you. Step one, go to NY and eat from a cart, then visit this place. Just like the movies, New York is the main character of the story (you always know when it is some Canadian city, or worse, some cheesy Hollywood set instead of the real thing). While the flavors brought me back to Broadway, the total experience is a bit lacking. Add VR Goggles someday? The employees, while generally nice were not "Halal Guys". The layout is sort of Subway sandwich or Chipotle meets Halal Cart. I would prefer if they actually set up Halal carts in Atlanta. Went for the first time last night. Ordered one beef and one chicken Gyro. Also a baklava. Arrived at about 5PM and the parking lot was empty and since I couldn't see anyone inside I though it might be closed. I pulled on the door and was greeted by the 3 employees behind the counter. I was the only customer in the place. The workers were super friendly and completed my order quickly. The Food: The pita bread seems straight from a plastic bag. It was thick and dry. The lettuce had that taste of oldness, you know like it was chopped yesterday. The sandwiches were sub par compared to every other place I've had gyros and shawarma in the ATL area. The baklava was OK but nothing to write home about. One other thing; later the same evening I was dying of thirst. I chalked it up to there being a lot of salt hidden in the beef or red sauce. First time at Halal Guys today and was charged more than $27 for one falafel sandwich that had 3 falafel pieces on it and a smearing of hummus, 1 order fries, and one fountain soda. Fries were under-seasoned, but the sandwich was ok. Seems pricey for a street food. I ate at the location. You can find The Halal Guys at 4929 Buford Hwy NE, Chamblee, GA 30341 right at the northeastern quadrant of the intersection of Chamblee Tucker Rd and Buford Highway. The bright-yellow mansard-style roof is hard to miss - it was the former location of some Latino chicken-joint. Parking is towards the back and the northern side, and it basically sucks - they really need 30-50% more space - I usually drive past and park at the lot in front of the Family Dollar and walk back but sometimes get lucky. If I see a lot of cars I don't bother pulling in. This is the first Atlanta location of the very famous New York food-stand The Halal Guys - I'm not sure if they've opened any other restaurants in the Atlanta area but I haven't heard of any. This is a fast-casual restaurant that specializes in beef and chicken served Mediterranean style - they also have some pretty decent falafels. The interior is very diner-ish with a line that extends to double doors and a very simple menu. You can either get a chicken or beef gyro sandwich (your basic pita wrap) or a Platter with Chicken, Beef, Combo or Falafel (the platter comes with rice and a pile of lettuce and tomatoes, with pita wedges). You can get extra protein ($2) extra falefal ($1) or extra sauce ($0.50) - all the entry prices are super cheap so you can get our of here easily for under $10. They also have a couple of side-options including hummus, baba ghanouj, falafel or fries ($1-3 depending on what it is) and a chunck of Baklava ($2.50) as their only dessert. I actually like this very simple menu - makes things easy and super fast for those queuing up to be served. I've now eaten here about a half-dozen times. My preference is the combo platter with chicken and beef, the creamy white sauce and extra hot sauce. They will warn yo about how hot this stuff is but I find I can handle quite a bit - if you like heat don't pass it up - it's yummy. The portions here are huge - you will get filled up - as for the sides and the rest, nothing really spectacular and it's dead-on what you would expect from a New York street vendor. Honestly I think there's better food not too far distant (Mediterranean Grocery comes to mind with their delicious shawarma about a mile away). I do like the patio here at Halal Guys - nice place to watch the idiots driving by (of course in the heat it sucks but it's surprisingly pleasant during the cold months). The experience would be vastly improved with several pints of beer, but hey, you can't have everything. The staff here are for the most part efficient and now that the crowds have died down a bit (fighting for parking and queuing up in long lines was a bitch), the experience isn't bad - you might actually find someplace to sit. Having formerly lived in New Jersey and Brooklyn, The Halal Guys, the original location on 53rd and 6th, was always a staple of a late night, easy eating. Their food was never the greatest, per-se, but they offered comfortable, accessible food in a hurry. As-such, I will always have a soft heart for The Halal Guys, no-matter the location. This location is obviously much different then the one in New York, being in an actual restaurant. The food is good and the atmosphere and employees are helpful. You have much more options here, including the ability to add in jalapeños and black olives and onions. Otherwise, the food is quite similar to the original location, which is a testament to the work that had gone into making these locations. Buyer beware, the hot sauce is definitely hotter than one would expect. And definitely feel free to drench in white sauce, literally nothing better. read more

Underwhelm. That's the best one word I could describe my experience. A lot of my Desi friends raved about how awesome The Halal Guys are, but in NYC. There was a huge hype about The Halal Guys opening up in Atlanta. It took several months longer than I would like for them to open. A year later, the hype is gone and I'm here. The cashier, the only girl there, asked if I wanted to just pay now. Sure. I would have to pay extra for jalapeno or olives. I wouldn't want that anyways. With gyros I've always gotten in the past, none of them ever contained jalapeno or olives. I m When falafel was ready, I heard it but I had no idea the girl was making my order because she didn't say anything until she started adding the veggies on there and asked if tomatoes and onions okay? I looked her way and was like, I didn't know you were talking to me. Seriously cause prior to my order, they packaged a food order and took it outside. Then another group came after me. How am I supposed to know? I had no idea on the sauces but said I wanted the spicy sauce. She is like, that's it? It's really spicy. I'll let you taste a little. It was spicy but yes, that would've been too much. She said it tasted good with the white sauce. She put a lot of white sauce but one line of red sauce. I said to please add another line hahaha. I took it to go and wish I would've gotten the packages instead of the gyro drizzled with sauces. I didn't realize that until I came home and read the Yelp reviews. I did also order the fries. I came here because I was craving gyro. My sister ordered the small chicken platter with BBQ sauce and baklava and I ordered the beef small gyro platter with white sauce. We both thought our food was good! The chicken and beef was well seasoned, sauce was delicious, and we really like the yellow rice. We opt to have the hot sauce on the side because we heard how spicy it was and OMGAWD. It burns. So do beware of it! The baklava was delicious!! It was like a caramelized inside with pecans. Definitely worth getting if you want something sweet. Last minute, we did get fries (not pictured). Tasted like regular crinkle fries. I'd been wanting to visit this place for quite some time, and I'm glad I finally made it. Halal Guys has been widely known for a while now, so I'm going to limit my review to two things: Food and Service. The food was good. Apparently everything they serve really is actually sourced and prepared following strict Islamic dietary guidelines for Halal. My fiancée had a chicken sandwich. It looked good. I didn't get to ask her about it because I was focused on my tasty Combo sandwich (made with both chicken and gyro). I didn't load mine up with everything, opting only for some lettuce and some olives. Other "toppings" included white onion, tomatoes, and chopped green bell pepper. This was the first time I've ever had olives as part of a "wrap" preparation. I rather enjoyed it. I highly recommend the "white sauce" that they offer, whatever it is formally called. And if you're into hot sauce, know that the Halal Guys serves really is HOT. A little goes a long way. The fries looked good, but I did not partake of them. Maybe next time. Prices were reasonable. My combo cost roughly $7, and the fries would have been approximately $3 more. Service is where things fell down a bit. The assembly line of food preparation is clearly a well-orchestrated thing, and these guys are moving a lot of orders out the door. (They have three tablets next to one register for internet orders, alone.) So service is fast, but there was something of a rushed element to the ordering process. And the tables were dirty. Much like most of the B&M halal guys are NOT as good at the OG on 53&6th. But this place is definitely under the bar. The portions are certainly under served compared to other locations. I mean normally I get my halal without rice and they will FILL UP my tray with lettuce and tomatoes. Here they much be on a lettuce shortage. I didn't even get half a tray. I'm a fan! I usually get my gyro fix and stay loyal to Cafe Agora next to my office in Midtown, but I live in Brookhaven so having this gem nearby is a game changer. I've waited to come in because I heard/saw how busy it always was. Well, it was worth the wait. I stopped in around 6pm and there were a handful of people in line. The staff welcomed me in, and each team member I spoke with was beaming a friendly smile and helping me build this yummy gyro. Beef gyro, white and hot sauce, add onions and jalapeños - yessss. Note to self: skip the fries next time and opt in for hummus. I sat in the dining room (7 tables and a bar) and kid you not, 4 separate times the team checked on me, offered more sauce, etc. This place takes customer service seriously. Bravo, HG. Updating Review 5/5 to 3/5 I still love Halal Guys food. But they seriously have been skimping out on the rice. At first I thought it was an employee's bad day but after going back 5-10 times, I realize this location gives less rice than it should. When I first came here I could split the regular chicken over rice platter into two meals, now I eat it all easily in one. In NYC they fill the rice up to the top of the bowl. Here they fill it halfway or less. What's up with that? I'll still be coming to see that they change things up, but I'm really sad the GA store front couldn't keep up the consistency NYC. This makes price and size both more disappointing. I hope this store front changes the serving amount on rice (it is after-all half the star of my chicken and rice dish) soon! -------- All right let me clear up the debate. I'm from New York City and I've tried the original halal guys probably more times than I should (and gained 10 pounds because I ate lunch there daily). The food is exactly the same. But yes there are differences but it has to do with packaging and pricing more than anything. Differences: 1) Prices: in NYC you pay cash only and wait in line for a few minutes. Regular platter is $7.50. Here you pay $7.79 for a small and $8.79 for a regular. These prices however are similar to the Halal guys location at the storefront NYC on 14th street (they take card or cash). 2) Venue: the original Halal guys is outside and under an umbrella. This one is a store front (like the one in NYC on 14th street...but a little bit bigger and looks more like a Chipotle setup). 3) Packaging: the packaging here is larger, BUT they do not pack it to the max and I do think they give about the same amount as I get in NYC. However, I do think, if you're going to have a larger box, you should fill it up ;) 4) Perks: you can get a cup of water for free. In NYC, you have to buy a bottle of water or soda. 5) Customer service: They're very nice here- constantly asking if I need more sauce. In NYC, they are just like "hi, what would you like," takes your order and gives it to you. I find both etiquettes fine. Overall it does taste the same as the original Halal guys in NYC. Personally I think that the "wait in line" location on 57th street and sixth avenue... does taste a little bit better than both store fronts (ATL and the one on 14th street), but I have no idea why...maybe the long line makes me feel like I've waiting for something great! No, but in all honesty, I assume it's because of one thing NYC has that Atlanta does not: cold winter days. Eating some hot and comforting chicken/lamb/beef over rice on a cold winter night is really an awesome feeling. And add some spice to turn up the heat! The Halal Guys: worth the hype? Not quite, I'd say. I came here for a UYE recently, and thankfully there was no long line. The menu was limited which actually was perfect for a decision-challenged individual such as myself. I had the regular-sized combo platter with chicken and gyro ($8.79) so that I could try both meat options. Kind of like a burrito line, you can see the employees put together your order right in front of you. The meats were all right, kinda salty however. The lettuce and tomato were okay, though there's not much to say about lettuce and tomato. There were pita triangles thrown in too which were fine. The white sauce didn't really do it for me. Luckily I steered clear of the red sauce which sounded scorching hot. If you need more sauce, just wait since someone walks around the dining area periodically, wielding white and red squeeze bottles. The service was definitely friendly and genuinely polite. Apparently there's a code for the bathrooms. A fair number of parking spaces surround the restaurant. Final thoughts: I'd probably pick local spots like Mediterranean Grill and Aladdin's if I needed a Middle Eastern/Mediterranean fix, but I'm glad I got to try the famed Halal Guys. read more

This place is pretty decent. The food came out fast and the line went quick. They offer very items so picking what you want is easy. You can get gyro beef or seasoned chicken or both - a combo. You get the meat on a platter ( with veggies and a bed of rice) or a pita wrap. Then you can pick from BBQ , Tatziki or Hot Sauce (very hot). Expect to pay under $10 for your platter $7 for a wrap. They also offer falafel if you don't want meat. You can opt to get a side for $3 such as baba ghanouj, hummus, or fries. I love that the place is easy to find ( look for the red and yellow building ) and plenty of parking . Wish they had a place like this near my work, it'd be a healthy lunch. read more

Ordered food through uber eats because I couldn't leave due to a meeting. Let me tell you, the food was TERRIBLE. It was so salty I couldn't eat it. I called the restaurant and was told to come pick up another order. Well sir, I can't. I'm too far away and I can't leave hence the reason for the uber order. I requested a refund as I would like to order something edible and was directed to uber eats. Well, uber eats won't refund so now I'm out of $15. So needless to say, I won't eat here again and I won't be using uber eats anymore either. They both will screw you. And this one star was only given because there's nothing lower. read more

Confession - Mediterranean food is my favorite, and I am always on the lookout for a quick and easy spot to satisfy my hummus and baba ganouj cravings. We have far too few restaurants in my area that fit the bill. In fact, this spot is not exactly close, but I will drive for tasty Mediterranean dips. This spot had been on my list for some time, so I am thrilled that we finally got to stop by. We have driven past the restaurant a number of times, but long lines have discouraged us from stopping. This weekend, we ended up having a late lunch, so we thought it might be the perfect time to stop by. We visited at 1:30 or so on a Saturday. When we arrived, there was no line, but there were only three seats open at a high top bar. By the time we ordered, however, there were about ten people behind us in line, and someone affiliated with one of the groups had already snagged the seats to save them for her party. So there was a bit of time in which we were standing around, holding our tray of food waiting for a seat. There was plenty of outdoor seating, but it was a hot day, so we waited for a table to finish up. My husband had the gyro platter, but later confessed he would have rather have had the gyro sandwich and fries. At least my son ordered the fries, and my husband got to enjoy some of those. The fries were crispy, crinkle fries. Tasty! I enjoy Mediterranean sides more than the true entrees, so I opted for hummus, baba ganouj and falafel. The falafel was good, and a side order consists of two patties, which you can smother with tzatziki sauce (and you should!). There is a new spicy hummus on the menu, too. I ordered the regular hummus, but I may have received the spicy because it was packing a little heat. It was great - smooth and tasty. I only received one pita for both the hummus and the baba ganouj, which is all I probably should be eating anyway, but I secretly longed for another. We finished up with a delightful piece of baklava - it was just the right bit of sweetness at the end of a filling meal. Note - I did not even taste any of the meat sandwiches or platters. I cannot comment on those. This satisfied my Mediterranean craving! We will be back! read more

Thanks to Mr. Ahmed. I've noticed since he moved from NYC to cook for Buford-Hwy Halal Guys the chicken got tenderer and rice has more spices, and the white sauce is more authentic like when I had it in New York in 1997. And together with the new manager Mr. Sade. They brought back the authentic taste in NYC again. read more
