Holy mother of god... the food!!! I don't eat cow, so my options are pretty limited but the southwest panini was magic on toast! Husband said his mushroom Swiss burger was the best he's ever had- cooked to perfection. The service was outstanding. We were treated like old friends and it was our first time in. A bar for beer lovers. If you're looking for great ambiance and a phenomenal beer selection, this is the place. The beers on tap are selections you won't find almost anywhere else in the valley, sometimes they have the only keg of a particular beer in the state. Being from the Pacific Northwest, what I missed was the cosy neighborhood bar with a wide selection of real beer on tap. This place reminds me of the bars in the old neighborhoods of Seattle, where people like their beer and visiting with others. They have great live music Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, and if you're not careful some of the musicians (Les) will talk you into going to the Waffle House after the joint closes down, it's that kind of place! read more

We found this restaurant on Bring Fido and was beyond pleasantly surprised with the ambiance and quality of the food. We showed up with our dogs and they didn't even blink.. they found a nice spot for us and our dogs ( not stuffed in a corner )to sit. First they brought the dogs water and made us feel very welcome at their establishment. Then we ordered and WOW what great food. For a small restaurant they do big time meals. They are so worth trying.. especially if you are traveling with your four legged kids like we were. read more

We called in here after looking for a bar with a high rating on Yelp. We were staying by the lake so it was a good 30 minute drive to get to Apache Junction. It was a Saturday night and the place was busy. The selection of beers, ciders etc was top notch. The reason why I'm giving this place 3 stars is that it should be a great bar, but we just got the impression that this place is unsure of what it is. The bar area was too small and there was nothing on the menu that I could class as bar food. The menu was pretty limited. We had burgers with Kale Coleslaw. It was ok but this place could be amazing if it tried to be more like a bar. It's certainly not a pub. read more

We tried this place for the first time Saturday. It was so good we returned for a second visit on Sunday! Incredible patio area with a great selection of local craft beer on tap. The vibe is laidback and very comfortable. I could easily spend an entire afternoon soaking in the sun and drinking super cold beer. Food is excellent and surprisingly fresh. Very disappointed with the food - great beers. Order fish tacos , the shells were so bad couldn't eat them and the grilled Brussels sprouts were boiled so long that they were soft and mushy. Ok, Dont Laugh! I know a Craft Beer Bar in Apache Junction is Hard to Believe. Well, Better Start Believin! The Handle Bar on Apache Trail in Apache Junction is the Real Deal! 18 draft handles & 100% Craft! Beers from Locals like Four Peaks, to San Diego brewery Ballast Point and even Belgians like SamichClaus can be had ON TAP at this liitle out of the way Diamond in the Rough! I know of no else in town other than The God Fathers, Papago Brewing that has ever had SamichClaus on draft! Very Very Cool. I had a long converstaion with owner Jeff regarding his chosen location. He basicaly told me, "If I Build It They Will Come", he was right. The locals out that way are really embracing what Jeff & wife Alec are doing! Honestly, I cant blame them! This is one cool little hole in the wall. In addition to 18 craft handles, they had a brightly lit 3 door glass face fridge full of craft beer bottles & cans. I could have sat there all night. Imagine your Favorite Dive Bar then add Tons of real Craft Beer. Need I say More? I was having far to much fun to ask about Happy Hour or Specials, but on my next visit I promise to get the low down. We visited on a Saturday night as a group of 8 for a friend's birthday dinner. We sat on the newly added spacious patio, which was desperately needed due to a lack of room inside. I ordered the recommended smoked chicken salad, it was just a chicken salad, not really anything special. My husband had the grilled cheese and blue cheese potato salad, once again just average food. The service was slow, but we have never come here in a hurry. Drinks were forgotten pretty often, but we just kept giving friendly reminders. My husband took matters into his own hands a few times and just went to the bar to get another beer from the large selection and a pitcher of water for the table that never arrived. Then things got worse. :( We asked for our check at about 9 and were told that it would take awhile to get them all figured out....umm ok, I guess. Then we kept seeing the waitress "around" working, yet not ever calculating our table's tickets. She was washing glasses at the bar at one point and everyone started getting really impatient at about 9:30. It got pretty chilly out and we headed inside to wait at the bar. It felt like we were going to have to practically beg to pay our bill. As we sat down and asked for our check AGAIN she said oh I will buy you guys a drink while I figure them out, I politely said I don't want another root beer, thanks, I want to go home. She then proceeded to give my hubby another beer and disappeared again. Now I was finally getting frustrated! She returned with an attitude and with help from the owner, started actually adding up our bill, handed it to me. As I was going to look at it she snatched it out of my hand, gave it to the owner and walked away. We then asked the owner what that was all about, she said the waitress gave us the wrong ticket. The owner then apologized for the long wait. I let her know that I can deal with a long wait but rudeness is inexcusable, especially after we waited 45 minutes in the end. All I know is the next time I go back I will make sure I don't get the waitress with the short brown hair. read more

I stopped in with a small group and we all had cheeseburgers. They were pretty good. We sat at a high top table; the chairs weren't that comfortable unfortunately. The service was also a bit slow, which was strange because there was only one other table there and we were a table of three. Two more joined us later. It took a bit long to get more drinks and my refill was forgotten a couple of times. My friends like this place, so I'll give it another shot. read more

The bartender, Destin, greeted us with a less than enusastic smile. Gave the impression we were a bother. He never asked if we wanted anything, rather he just stared at us. In ordering food, I asked for the smoked potatato skins only to be told they are only served on Tuesdays and Fridays. He and the waitress got into a verbal dispute about how long it took him to pour a beer for.a customer. This made our experience a little unco.fortable. My grilled cheese sandwich came out burnt and on the bottom only had bread one half of the sandwich. Not sure I will come back. read more

This place is amazing. I love that they grill everything. Every time i have been here though there is always long wait to be seated and for food. This also seems to be a hotspot for snowbirds so it is packed with them every time. Due to the long wait times for food and it always been packed, we only my go here once or twice a year. I have been coming to the Handlebar off and on for about 2 years now. Eating here is literally like eating in your backyard at a backyard BBQ. Sitting outside under the stars with the warmers is like sitting by the fire. The decor really makes it feel like you are at home, relaxing in your own yard. The other guests are friendly and easy going. I personally love the laid back atmosphere and feeling like I am at home, without having to cook or get my own beer. :) It is small area, but this is a true family run establishment, which I definitely enjoy patronizing. The food is fantastic (a little pricey, but delicious), they have daily specials; the rib special on Friday is my favorite, smoked rubs with mouth watering dry rub, and a side of BBQ sauce to dip it, the bark is great, everything about the ribs is NOM NOM NOM time. Their specials do tend to run out quick. So if you get there after 8 or so the special may no longer be available. Their sides are great, the potato wedges (also a Friday special) are awesome, asparagus is great (another reviewer said their veggies are soggy and they are, still tastes good...) and flavorful. They have 20+ beers on tap. My favorite is the Gulden Drak, which comes out of a Golden Dragon lol. It's awesome to watch them pour it. They used to pour it in a nice mug only for the Gulden Drak, but now it comes in a regular glass. They also have a great wine selection, the wife is a major fan of Dr.Loosen a German Riesling and we always have to go to Total Wine and More in Gilbert to ever find it. Well they have it here and is a nice Riesling. They have live music on the weekends, the band is an old school/old timer band and they sound great and do a great rendition of Johnny Cash. The staff has always been friendly and they actually go out of their way to make you feel welcome and part of their family. The owner is a nice older gentlemen who will stop at your table and just shoot the sh*t with you. His daughter in law Megan(sp?) has an excellent memory and is fun to talk to and hang out with. IE I hadn't been back in a year (I used to go every Tuesday where they had a dollar off any draft) as the people who I would go with moved away and I had just had a baby. Anyways, the wife and I went back for the first time 1-22-16 with a couple of friends. We got there between 8-830PM and they ran out of ribs, which was damned disheartening. However, Meagan came by our table and recommended the Green Chili Burger, which was fantastic, could have been a little spicier, maybe add jalapenos to is, but was still damned good and filling. It had a chipotle aioli sauce, green chilis, pepper jack cheee, and the burger was actually cooked to the level you wanted, in my case a Medium. So after eating and talking to her and have a good time. We came back last Friday 1-29-16 and Megan came by our table and remembered our names, we were like WOW! Who does that anymore? Well the Handlebar does! When I was a kid I used to watch Cheers all the time, and I did want a place where they would remember your name, and the Handlebar does! It felt awesome! So with such a great review why am I giving it 4 out of 5 stars you ask? Well dear reader who is super patient for getting this far or is a skimmer, lol. They do not offer fountain drinks, all non-beers come in a bottle, and as such there are no free refills. So I am docking a star for that. Otherwise this really is a 5 out of 5. Went to Handlebar this evening and the service was horrible! We sat down at a table and people who sat down after us were waited on, so we waited a little longer and finally decided to go sit at the bar. At the bar we got drinks pretty quickly and ordered food; however, the guy at the bar was not friendly to us. He was chatting away with the ladies next to my husband and I, but he never asked how our food was. He gave us the bill and didn't say anything. He ran the card and still nothing. You would think for our hard earned $45 he'd at least say "thanks" or "have a good evening". Errrr! This was one of my new favorite food places and now I don't want to go back due to the service. read more

What a gem! The food was really good. Salmon perfectly cooked, and the pork-stuffed pepper excellent. We had the Brussel sprouts, sweet potato, and asparagus with feta--all beautifully cooked. Yummy! Craft beer special stout had run out (8 pm on a Monday), replacement was tasty. Staff friendly and though they were busy, not too long wait time. Dinner and a little light music. A place you would typically drive by as the outside is sparse back in the day it was a biker bar. This place is a gem the owner is very laid back. The menu is short and sweet. They have a grill outside where everything is cooked. It's like upscale pick nick food with a twist. The burgers are great, on the nights they have specials the salmon was fresh and cook perfectly. The best is they have maybe 15 handles of all different crafted beers, that they rotate. Some nights they have music, so far the two bands I have seen have been fun. You have to try this place one time, and if you do I think you will keep coming back. read more

This place is awesome! I finally checked it out today, and now that I have a job in the area, I think I will become a frequent visitor. My dining partner and I each chose a beer from the great tap selection. They have a lot of unique taps, things that you don't see everywhere. I chose the Fox Barrel Pear Cider. I am somewhat of a hard cider snob, and so many places just play it safe and have Angry Orchard or Woodchuck on tap. I love that they have something a little different for us cider drinkers. My dining partner chose a Belgian beer, of which they have many, and he really enjoyed it as well. We weren't planning on eating, but after seeing the food menu, we had to try something. I was really impressed with the different ingredients they use and the choices in local products. We chose the bruschetta, which was delicious. It was like a caprese salad on slightly toasted bread. It was slightly expensive, at $10 for three medium sized pieces, but it was very tasty. The service was great, too. I'm guessing our server was the owner, and he was handling the dining room and bar almost entirely on his own. The service wasn't slow at all... we barely had to wait for service, our drinks, or our bill. He was holding his own, for sure! We will definitely be back to this place. I'm thinking next time we will try some more of the food, maybe get a full dinner. I would highly recommend this place. read more

I LIKE it! Theres a good feel here. It reminds me of a bottle shop in Oregon. The owners are cool and their idea is on point. The bottle selection is great but you come here for draft! There is a good amount of cider on pull and a mead or two as well. I think once they have the food set up, these guys will have a GREAT spot out here. If I want a good beer and I'm in the E. Valley, this is probably where I'll be drinking it. read more

I went into the Handlebar yesterday to place a to-go order, the bartender was very friendly and helpful . They have a great beer selection, many microbrews on tap, they had upbeat music playing. I ordered the veggie panini it was delicious, the portion was on the smaller side if you're looking to share, add the chicken salad to your order. The salad had no ice burg lettuce all spring mix, tasty pecans and cranberries on top! Both very tasty :-) Their kids menu was limited; Mac and cheese and a burger. keep in mind they don't have a deep fryer. (I had to go next door for chicken strips for my twins.)
