Update: The quadruple charges happened on May 14th. I just checked my credit card for a dispute update today, June 20th. The dispute is marked "Awaiting response from Merchant". This despite them stating they would fix it. Apparently even when my credit care company contacted them they have not responded! This means they have had use of my funds for over a month now. Any reputable business would immediately refund/credit the customer. BEWARE!!! Original Review: Check your credit card bill! I was charged FOUR times for our $60 lunch. I didn't catch the duplicate charges until ten days later, and conveniently they had not either, esp. given that it was a very slow weekday in the off season. What followed was a shocking level of rudeness, nonresponsiveness and defensiveness. I called four times. Finally got a message to text details to a specified number - which I did. No response for two more days so I called again and this time got the co-owner Tina. She said no text had been received so I re-sent it to her personal number from the incoming call. As others have reported, she was incredibly aggressive and nasty to me, quite the opposite of apologetic! Multiple other reviews report the same level of crazy from the owners. Our conversation was followed up by a text from her that said, among other things, quoted verbatim: "Well I'm sorry that you had this problem. Sometimes things don't go your way and sometimes things don't go my way." "...that's why God put erasers on pencils because we all make mistakes in our lifetime..." After that exchange, I contacted my credit card company. I am not the only one reporting being charged more than once in these reviews. That shouldn't be something that happens over and over. And if it happens, it should be immediately corrected and apology issued. This situation cost me way too much time and energy to correct and Tina's attitude and tone was especially inexcusable in light of that. As of the time of this writing, NINE days after Tina said she would look into it but "needed time", I have not heard a peep from her or from anyone at The Hitching Post. (She did not know that I contacted my credit card company as a backup plan.) The way she spoke to me was so aggressive that a random person I did not know overheard the conversation because it was on speaker (I didn't realize he was there.). First time ever eaten here I got the mow wings. The seasoning was phenomenal. It was great. Got about 10 to 12 wings. They weren't too spicy. The spice was a good level. The flavor was a good level. The only thing that was just a bit wild and crazy was a short little 68 ounce beer and a plastic cup was six dollars and my wings were $19 and I did ask about a side of ranch and that was two dollars which I found pretty crazy on a slow night. They do have bull riding here so I'd understand if they raise the price is doing bull riding but when it was a slow night with a house band Doesn't make sense to me to charge that much for wings in ranch and beer. Came to this restaurant while staying at the Elks Lodge RV parking area after a six hours drive. The members at the lodge warned us about this place and said they were unconventional in the way they did things. The lodge kitchen was close and left us no choice but to visit this restaurant. The restaurant had a Nashville vibe in its decorations and music in the jukebox. We entered the restaurant and spoke to an employee who told us to take any seat. We did and ordered a cheese curds appetizer. The curds came and were amazing, but small on portion size. For dinner, we both ordered hamburgers. They were okay, nothing to write home about. We were satisfied with the burger and fries. No real problems there. However, just be aware that this business charges you for soda refills. You get a plastic disposable cup, mostly ice. They have the odassity to charge you for a refill on soda! This isn't Europe! When we arrived at the business, it was within 45 minutes of closing. We felt rushed as the crew were cleaning up and getting ready to leave. The waitress kept asking us if we're were done. No, we went. If in the area, I'm sure there are better places to dine than this place. I usually give restaurants the benefit of the doubt, but this place isn't a recipient of that discretion. They made a conscious effort to push us out by rushing out experience, and then charge us for refills on soda. If you are in Apache Junction AZ, skip this place and take your business to an establishment that values you as a customer. This place isn't it. It pains me to advise this, but it is what it is. On Saturday night my family and I came here to enjoy a dinner together on the patio. Halfway through a man (who we now know is the owner) came up to our table and accused us of smoking weed. We had no idea who he was or what he was talking about so we assumed he was joking. We kind of chuckled and said no. I turn to my clearly pregnant sister and say yeah it was her. Again, joking, she's literally pregnant. He proceeds to raise his voice and tell her to get out multiple times. Once we finished and paid my sister and her husband went up to him and explained that we didn't know who he was and that he was being serious. I have traveled many places for vacation and never have I ever had a worse experience than I did this evening at The Hitching Post. My kids were so excited to watch the rodeo so we decided to go and grab dinner there before the rodeo started. It was 105 degrees outside so I brought a water bottle in with me (they charge $2 for water). Within 10 minutes I was rudely told I needed to get rid of my water bottle. I then went to the bar to get a drink and the bartender was extremely rude. My in laws were served a warm beer and were told "it's hot outside anyway". We then made our way inside where we were told to not waste our time because we won't get a table. We did end up getting a table but were told we better not have a bar tab anywhere else because we can't open a new one. After ordering a quick appetizer because we didn't feel welcomed, we paid our tab and made our way to the rodeo. My kids were enjoying the rodeo. About 20 minutes in a lady came over and told us bags weren't allowed and we needed to leave or get a locker. As I walked to my car to put my small purse in the car, there were a minimum of 15 people that had backpacks and purses at the rodeo. I asked why I couldn't have a bag and others could and was asked if I wanted my money back. It was clear we were not welcomed at the business. We absolutely love the hitching post for so many reasons. Decor - this is an old school indoor/outdoor bar. The walls are covered in animal heads and signed dollar bills. It is one of a kind from wall to wall. Buckets of cold beer and great bar food. They also serve some unique items like broasted chicken and friend gizzards. You won't find those at other bars. Plenty of staff keep the service efficient and attentive too. Lastly, live music sets it off on Fridays and Saturday. Just local bands but people turn out to dance and have a good time. No fights, drunks, etc - just locals having a good time. And hitching post is an appropriate name - you will often see a couple horses hitched out front while cowboys wet their whistle! read more

If you think dining out is too boring because it rarely involves law enforcement, I cannot recommend The Hitching Post enough. The food here is really just a prop for the owners' ego trip. We ordered the Western Burger ($17), which arrived looking a distinct shade of "battleship grey" and tasting like it had been cryogenically frozen since the 90s. It was artfully plated with exactly five seasoned fries. When we took one bite and politely declined to finish the grey puck, the waitress took the plate away and looked genuinely terrified. She whispered that the manager was a "volatile person." She was right, but she left out the context: The owners were too busy drinking with the regulars to care about actual service. When the manager came over, it felt less like a customer service interaction and more like he was showing off for his drinking buddies at the bar. He didn't just threaten to call the police; he actually called them. Over a hamburger. It was obvious they treat this place like a spectator sport, strutting around with drinks in hand, demonstrating just how nasty they can be to "outsiders" while the locals watch the show. The police arrived and, in a twist of justice only found in nightmares, made us pay the full $17 for the one bite of grey meat that the staff had already taken away. As we were leaving--wallet lighter and dignity bruised--the co-owner, a hag named Tina, paused her socializing long enough to deliver the final line of the performance. With all the charm of a prison warden, she sneered, "Then don't come back." Don't worry, Tina. That won't be a problem. It's a close call, but I have to say: the only thing worse than the management is the food. Verdict: Come for the grey burger, stay because the owners called 911 to impress the regulars. read more

VERY rustic as you might imagine by the name! portion sizes and prices were reasonable. servers were pleasant. the kitchen must have been running behind because it took a while longer than expected. Ketchup was individual packets and that was not popular in our group of 4. My burger patty was overcooked. This is a really neat spot! My daughter and I were camping at Lost Dutchman and had hoped to get a quick dinner before an event at the campground. We thought we had plenty of time but the short drive here took longer and they were crowded. However it was a fun experience and we weren't at all bothered by missing the event. There were a lot of horses out front and a big group rode off, literally into the sunset as we hung out on the patio. They charge for drink refills which is an odd practice but service RC (Royal Crown) cola which is a plus. The band started at 7:00 and was good as was watching the mostly older crowd of dancers. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. One star for our waitress, Alaisha- who was kind and hustling. She came out to greet us (after a long wait) and we were told dogs were not allowed except for service animals. Yes- I have filed a civil rights complaint with the ADA. Our dog is a small dog, and she was doing her job as I was experiencing anxiety from the Ghost town gun fight show we encountered at Gold Field up the road- and so I was doing breath work with the animal- which is completely within my rights according to the FEDERAL law of the ADA. Alaisha said, "ok I'll be back with your menus" and we waited another 10 minutes as I did not feel comfortable enough yet to do more traveling. After another 10 minutes- this old, nasty, aggressive, rude woman said "we don't allow dogs. Is this a service animal or emotional support animal?" And I said, "both. She's a psychiatric service animal." And she said, "your dog isn't a service animal. If it were, it would have a vest on and be on the ground doing its job. Our owner does not allow fake service animals because one time a fake service animal bit someone." And to be clear- my service animal was on my lap, and there was another large service animal on the opposite side of the table we were at, and THAT dog growled at our dog, who did NOT react. I was in such shock I asked if we put her in the car, could we please stay and get some drinks and menus. She said, "I guess if that's what you want to do, but you can't stay here with your fake service animal." AGAIN- I was in too much shock, needed to take a moment and I just said "well get drinks and leave, if we ever get menus, we've been here a really long time." And she snapped back, "you've been waiting here because we were discussing your fake service dog and dealing with that." She was VILE. The place was PACKED with old people- who were having a great time. Alaisha came out with our menus after we put the dog in the car (it was 53° outside, so no hot car issues) and apologized, and I said it's not your fault- we'll just get drinks and an appetizer. Drinks came out and were fine, we ordered breaded mushrooms, they were fine. It was only while we were waiting that we checked Yelp and saw how many other people and their service animals have had issues with this place! We stopped here because it was the closest place to our destination for the day, we were excited as it looked like a cool little spot. Holy cow were we WRONG. This place is going to really go down in flames if they don't get on Bar Rescue or something because the owner sounds like a terrible human, and it looks like their best customers aren't going to be around much longer to "enjoy" whatever the heck this place is trying to be. I'm disgusted and I hope he gets SMACKED with a civil lawsuit. By the way- according to the FEDERAL LAW- service animals do NOT require a "vest" or ANY identification/documentation, (even though our dog has a "SERVICE ANIMAL" badge on their leash vest?!?), our dog can be on our laps as she is a small dog who was doing her job, which is ALSO the law.
