After countless mornings waking up in a bedroom lacking greenery, I googled best plant shops in Miami. Many of the newer more popular stores came up but then so did Galloway Farm Nursery. For as long as I can remember, this nursery has been around and therefore I stuck with the tried and true. Perhaps it was the sense of familiarity that ultimately drew me to Galloway--a welcoming, unstuffy, old faithful that made me feel confident to plant shop despite my shortcomings with plants themselves. But when I got there, I quickly realized that the comfort I felt walking in was solidified by the assistance I received. Eavesdropping on another customer and team member, I could hear that the gentleman assisting was well versed in all things plants. I mean, one would hope that is the case, but you never know these days. If you're like me, sometimes you have trouble asking for help. But I wanted a big plant, damnit! And there was no way I would be able to physically lift the one I wanted on my own. After mustering up the courage to ask for help, I got so much more than that. I got information, I got recommendations, I got educated, and I even got help re-potting my plant. I'm not sure this is a regular service offered, however because it was very slow when I went the person was glad to help me. All of that being said, I left with the perfect low-light plants for my home for an unbeatable price. They even helped me put it in my truck. The value here is totally worth it. And then I realized....how the hell am I going to get these inside my house alone? LOL! Practical things to note: ample parking available, deliciously cool orchid room for those unbearably hot days, lots of cute cats hanging around. Galloway Farm Nursery is a must-try!

This is probably the only store on main street South Miami's Sunset Drive that is actually open-aired besides the mammoth commercialized mall down the street that consists of many air conditioned stores. The fact that everything looked green and very accessible, I had to walk in and around to see the goods. I love gardening and all things green, and I was not sure what to expect in the small downtown South Miami since most stores tend to be... well... small. Thankfully, I kept my expectations small - don't come here expecting to buy herbs (okay okay, I did expect to see herbs, unfortunately). This stores specializes on orchids, bromeliads and unique containers for your favorite plants. They have some containers that would look nice in the balcony as well as rows of good looking orchids. It is definitely a green haven in downtown South Miami. Star off for having most things on the pricey side, and for having little else other than orchids and containers - it should have been called Orchid Gate, not Garden Gate.

They may seem expensive, but the plants can last generations with some tender loving care. The store is high-end, due to the fact that they carry hybrids. So it's an invest. Located conveniently off Griffin Rd, it's hard to miss & has plenty of parking in the front. It seems like there's always a couple of employees walking around who are eager to help out. Their space is not massive by any means but it's set up to get the most out of it & they do it well. It's clearly sectioned off so you can easily find what you're looking for. Trees, native & exotic plants, fruit & vegetable plants, succulents, flowers; there's no shortage of variety here. They also do a good job at rotating their selection. I like that there's usually something new to me when I visit. For the most part, prices are great. If you're on a budget, you can walk away with an armful of succulents or small potted flowers for under $15. Also, There's always a sale of some sort. Like other places, they have things that are very expensive but at least the quality of these products seem good. Supporting local businesses is always a great thing to do so I try to stop by here monthly. If you're a fan of gardening or want to get started, this is a great place to check out.
