I have been a customer since 1993. I made the mistake of insuring elsewhere for a short period and returned to the Hartford. With 66 years of autoinsurance I believe no other company come close to any of the Hartford's business practices. That would include the last two claims. While The Hartford is not perfect my experiences with six other insurers was poor. Today I called concerning their Truelane driving application. The service rep was typical of the Hartford. Please be advised that never use this company for a car insurance. I received a letter stating that my bank refuse to honor the transaction and, I have 15 days to solve this problem from August 14, 2023. I called The Hartford on August 21, 202 I spoke with a representative then, we found out that the last number of my bank account was missing so, I told to use the correct bank account number. However, The Hartford cancel my policy any way. I am requesting a telephone conversation with The Hartford representative to verify that gave her a wrong account number which is imposible. read more

New customers here. We switch our home and autos over as of March 15, 2023. Home owner changed with out any problems. The Auto insurance is why I writing this review and I also pride myself on "trying" improve customer encounters. And what happened to myself and husband with the car insurance was uncalled for. I set up auto pay March 1st. At that point they told me that the payment will come out of my account on the 14th. I watched for the payment to be made and on the 15th I called only to find out they cancelled my policy without warning because "the payment was rejected" by my bank. At this point I was very upset because now they tell me that they don't know if they can restart my policy. I am put on hold for about 10 mins and they tell me that they can restart the insurance with payment that was "rejected" So I paid with my debt card that is from the same institution and connected to the same checking account. How about that the payment went through. Fast-forward to March 20th, I try to log into my online account and I am denied so I call Hartford only to find out that I have not had Auto coverage! WHAT????? Then it is explained that they can't restart the policy until it clears. WHAT THE HECK????? The payment came out of my account the day I called them! Keep in mind that we have been driving our vehicles With passengers. So moral of this is DONT let them take the payment, pay it yourself on line. I have yet to receive a cancelation notice until March 21. No phone call, text or email. If I was not on top of things I may not have had insurance for several days. I am also still waiting for a genuine apology for wasting so much of my time. Just because I have AARP does not mean I am retired and have time for this. Hopefully someone higher up reads this and will at the very minimum call me to genually appoligize. I've had Hartford Ins 'Trumbull Insurance Co ' since June 16,2016, May 30 my payment they were going to withdraw my payment, I had my card locked as I always do and unlock it as needed, June 1 I went to make my payment and They had cancelled my policy, I called to find out why the response was Non Payment like really after one day , oh right they did tell me I'm covered until June 16, 2023 and would have to get other insurance, I thought wow everything happens for a reason June 2 I did get new Car Ins. I called to cancel with them and the had the nerve to ask what Insurance Co did I go with, my response non of your business I wanted to say GTHOH now they owe me money I don't need to wait until June 16, not to mention new insurance is cheaper with the same coverage... My experience with Jamie Ross of the Hartford was phenomenal. Friendly, great job opportunities. I met Jamie at the largest Job Fair in Connecticut, but she gave me personal attention, related to me, and answered my challenging questions easily with honesty and frankness. While the job opportunity is a call center, it is inbound calls only. People speak to someone else about getting insurance and are calling back to get more info/place an order, no cold calling. In August, someone in a moving truck backed into my car. Let me tell you how the Hartford dealt with it. 1) The claimed they never heard of the driver. I told the driver who had to call them and sort it out. He was insured the entire time, and we never found out why they tried to say he wasn't. 2) They sent an adjuster out, and they looked at the damage on my car. The adjuster didn't add part of my damage, and I ended up having to pay $1400 out of pocket for his mistake. 3) Once I had my paperwork, they didn't answer the phone for a week, or any emails. Every time I try to email this company, I get an out of office reply. Eventually I broke down and took my car in, and the repair shop said they wouldn't take it because the Hartford only approves cheap parts that are not included in any recall. So, I had to wait for them to give me their shop, and had to take my car there. 4) By now weeks have passed, and my car is getting repaired in the shop (finally). I get a call from Enterprise, letting me know the Hartford has "decided" to be finished with my claim, and I need to bring the rental car back. I laughed and they said "Also, they decided to back date you two days. So you owe us for 2 days of the rental because they wont pay that". 5) SO, I email because no one answers the phone, and again get an out of office reply. Someone does call me eventually, and they say that they will ask for approval and will call me in 45 minutes. An hour and a half passes, and I call them. They left for the day. 6) The next day I get a call from a "supervisor". She was really rude, and kept saying they have done more than they had to already, claiming it should have only taken 5 days. Moral of the story: Things that seem cheap, are cheap. This company may seem like a good choice if you are strapped for cash, but it will break you if you have an actual claim. They are rude, horrible to work with, have awful communication, and it seems like no one is ever working. I recommend using Allstate. Even thought they may have slightly higher premiums, they take care of you and are above board. When it comes to expensive repairs, paying a little more for insurance is worth it. read more

I have home owners insurance through "The Hartford. They had someone come out and take pictures of my property recently. After that I received a letter stating that brush needed to be cleared away, many trees needed to be remove, etc. I had the fire department come up and inspect my house/property. They wrote a report showing all that needed to be done to help make my property safe from a fire. The report showed far fewer items that needed attention than the report from The Hartford. I still did all the things that "The Hartford" ask of us, which was extensive and expensive. After taking pictures of all the changes we received a letter from them stating that our policy was canceled. Reason given... the door to my attic was not closed (forgot to give them a picture of a closed attic door). Looking on the bright side... our property is better protected. Looking at the down side... I never needed to make any claims against my workers comp or business owners policies. When I went to cancel my coverage the representative triple confirmed that they would be cancelled and I won't need to worry about anything. Fast forward 2 months later and I'm receiving a bill for policy renewal. Apparently they only cancelled one policy and not the other. I found it strange that they could not provide me with a work order number or confirmation number that the policies would be cancelled and the rep would only "promise to take care of the cancellations". Good thing I never needed to actually use my policies, who knows what types of errors would have occurred. read more

Buried in the last pages of my AARP endorsed Hartford auto insurance policy is the statement that had they been able to obtain my credit score my premium would be lower. In disbelief I called to complain why they couldn't get it when dozens have. They put me on hold and they got my credit score and lowered my premium by about 25%. This scam is aimed at seniors who would be more likely to not catch it. read more
