I went into Sydney and arrived back just before 3pm and asked at the front desk and was told it was al taken care of. THAT WAS A LIE! Nobody had touched the room when I came back. Motel 6 does better but my problem is that any corporate entity that tells it's employees to tell the customers what they want to here and don't do their due diligence and then lie to the cstomers is wrong on any level!

First of all, the location is superb as it's a short walk to the Darling Harbour and a large mall, both of which offer extensive dining choices both inside and on the patio. The friendly culture of the staff at this hotel cannot be emphasized enough. We found the front desk and door and bellman folks to be downright warm and super accommodating. They also have this mysterious way of knowing your name and anticipating your needs. I do know they wear subtle headsets so they send secret messages to other staff, to help you most efficiently. We received a few gifts for special occasions, with handwritten, personalized messages. How many hotels HANDWRITE anything? Before I arrived, my flight had been cancelled so my arrival was a day later. I had emailed the hotel to make sure to hold my room. Their response was super friendly and personal. This culture maintained itself the entire time, from front desk, lobby door, to poolside. The room, as another wrote earlier on Yelp, is a unique purple theme with ultra modern touches. I found the TV high resolution and perfect, the Wi-FI fast and excellent, with all kinds of plugs and outlets available, including an adapter. The hotel provides lush velvety robes (I loved wearing it) and slippers, plus high end soaps and amenities. It's true they have no real clothing drawers, the one thing that could be improved. The closet is large, but we stayed for an entire week, so we needed more space. The room features floor to ceiling windows, with automatic drapes that open or close at the touch of a button. The room has MORNING, NIGHT and EVENING buttons that control the lighting (and OFF, of course), plus a few buttons to customize the lighting experience, which took a bit of adjusting. They also had a Privacy light and a Leaving Room light (which was probably the signal to the staff to clean the room). The cleaning was wonderful on a daily basis, and I noticed the sheets were changed daily. How did I know? One day they were solid, the next day they had subtle stripes in the fabric. The sheets were really comfortable and silky cotton (a super high thread count) and we loved the bed and pillows. All super high quality. We would come back to the room, finding our shoes neatly laid out in a long row, our toiletries organized neatly and all the amenities refreshed. I loved the tea and Nespresso, provided daily along with delicate glass tea cups and milk/sugar, etc. The shower featured both a large rain shower head PLUS the handheld European type shower so it served all preferences. And there were shower hooks right outside the shower for customer convenience. Our room overlooked the inviting pool (which was wonderful; we used it), and the room was very quiet. We never heard any noise from the hallway or other rooms. The hotel has a bar that we didn't use but saw it packed on the weekend and also offers a breakfast. We ate there our last day there and it was a terrific experience. Every item was unique, not just the same ol' pastries. Plus some Asian foods were offered as well. I loved it. Open your mind to new foods and enjoy a delightful continental breakfast there. The hotel is also adjacent to a hallway area leading to a complex including a casino (The Star), and you can find many fast foods (sushi, Greek, Chinese dumplings, inc cream, grilled foods) along the way. The hotel is in a great location. I took a few photos, including some of the staff, which I'll dig up and share here. We loved our stay at this unique hotel, with its friendly staff so eager to make your stay the best ever.

There are times when a billboard is very effective, and this was one instance when it was for us. My brother and I were visiting Sydney, and were walking to a 13:30 lunch reservation...we happened to see a sign for AU$8 Thursday Special of Burger of the Week (with drink) at the Agincourt sports bar. Since it was only 11:00 and we knew were going to be early, we figured we could spend a little time here. The bartender let us know that the kitchen wasn't going to open until 11:30, so we decided to hang around until then. Since the burger required a drink, we got a draft pint of Toohey's Old Ale (AU$12.69) while waiting. It was quite good...very dark, but not strong at all, with a very smooth malty flavor. So at exactly 11:30, we ordered and was notified that the burger needed to be purchased WITH a drink to get the special pricing. So this time we got a schooner of Cooper's Original Pale Ale (AU$8.50). The burger was delivered soon after, and we found out that if the word 'ham' or 'cheese' is not included in description, it can be anything. In this case, it was a grilled chicken breast. The bun was excellent, and the shredded lettuce dressed with Italian dressing, worked really well with the chicken. You pay as you order, so it was an easy couple of bites and we were on our way.

Awesome location, but sub par amenities. Coming from America, we unfortunately forgot our converter. We asked the front desk if there were any, and were told no. They provided then to their guests, but the guests never returned them, so when they ran out, they RAN OUT. Sorry. Ummm..okaaay. So, what about wifi? We were told: Since you went thru a 3rd party like Expedia..and didn't directly book with us, you have to pay for WiFi. Well excuse me madam, but we would have never heard about your apartments if it wasn't for Expedia. Why are we being punished?? That was super rude and wrong! Finally after making a complaint that since there wasn't even a business center to use to check in for our flights, the front desk made an allowance to give us the WiFi password. Thanks! Regardless of the ridiculous WiFi rule, the location was sweet. Right next to the ferries. It also was in the same lotof Sails restaraunt. A little pricey, but right on the waterfront. Sidenote: there are a lot of trees in the area,and parrots will land on your window sill. It was really beautiful to wake up and have your coffee overlooking the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge...but also have red and green parrots land on your windowsill to boot!! Only in Sydney! They also provide delicious muffins at the checkin desk in the mornings. ONLY on weekdays. Saturday and Sunday you have to find your own! Enjoy!

It advertises itself as Mountbatten Hotel, but that's just the name of the pub downstairs. When you arrive, it's actually named Sydney City Hostels and the entrance is on Ultimo Road. Up two flights of stairs - no elevators - is reception. Staff are friendly and helpful although it would have been nice to have been notified of the $20 refundable key deposit in my email confirmation. I had to leave to get cash out and come back. The rooms are decent with a flat screen telly, mirror, small table and 2 chairs as well as an extension cord so you can plug your phone in for charging while you sit in bed (if you happen to be lucky enough to score a bottom bunk). Fancy, huh! The room, however, smelled like arse and feet, and sweaty men's clothes. Floors were pretty filthy, so I'm not sure how often they get cleaned. Then again as I arrived there was a guy packing to leave after 4 weeks in that room so maybe he made a mess after it was cleaned that day. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt?! There's a locker provided in the rooms for each bed, but it was slightly too small to fit my 40L backpack. Good to keep passports or small valuables like laptops or cameras. There was one toilet and 2 showers near my room, and I was told that there were additional bathroom facilities down the corridor although I never checked them out as the toilet was free whenever I needed it. Bathroom facilities were always clean. It's worth noting that reception is only open during the day (8am-10pm I think) so if you need anything outside of hours, tough luck. The hostel is pretty noisy on a Saturday night, I'm not sure if it was a room in the hostel or a nearby pub but there was loud partying all night long. I managed to sleep through it for the most part but next time I'll remember to bring ear plugs :) Beds could really use with updating... I switched from a much-too-firm top bunk to a way-too-soft bottom bunk (mattresses are obviously never turned!!). I left early the next morning to escape the smell in the room and showered in a friend's nearby hotel room (wasting the $2 I paid for towel hire!) so I can't comment on the showers or free breakfast. Location is great, 2 minutes from Central Station, easy walk to China Town, Paddy's Markets, Darling Harbour and Pitt Street Mall. There are tons of great restaurants in the area and getting here by public transport is really simple. Would I stay here again? Sure, but next time I'll book ahead so I can get a female only dorm.

It's a very close walk to Hyde Park or to Circular Quay and The Rocks area.

The room windows are sealed, which keeps street noise to a minimum, and there is a convenience store as well as a coffee shop across the street, so what more do you need?
