Not only is it a dive bar, it's a Tiki dive! I swear the best part of the decor was the use of Styrofoam chunks on the ceiling to simulate ah ah lava. It was a dead give away that Styrofoam was used because of the flat surfaces at right angles. Hey recycle, reuse right? I like it. Environmentally conscious tiki dive bar. When we first went in I got heckled by people that I assume were locals. They thought it was funny that I was taking pictures as though the dive were a tourist destination. Little did they know. I also learned about these old fashioned stove/bbq thingys that used to be around in all the bars. I guess now it's totally considered a health and safety hazard so they don't use it any longer. What a shame. I bet some killer steaks came off of that grill. They also had karaoke! Yay! I was sooo gonna give them negative stars when I thought you had to pay by the song to sing. However, I found that it is free at the Hawaiian Room. I guess the KJ just charges at some other, way lamer location. What really makes this place a must see dive? The pièce de résistance was their "B" rating from the health department posted prominently behind the bar. Don't believe me? Check out the photo I posted on the review. But who really cares right? I absolutely adore this place. Last night 11/8/14 was my first time here and upon walking into this whole in the wall dive bar I was quite impressed with the decor. Everything from the tribal walls to the bamboo poles and beams down to the wooden lamps and tables went with the Hawaiian theme. The drinks were pretty basic and with only one person working on a Saturday night as the bartender/door (wo)man/waitress/ etc she kept up with the crowd. She was extremely nice and cheerful and continually checked up on our table to see if we needed anything else. The crowd is pretty mixed with majority of folks being regulars were very friendly and inviting. The music was played from a jukebox/iPod machine that was up to date with all the current songs as well as had all the oldies you can think of. They even had a song that I just recently hear of a few days prior. I'm told they do have a DJ normally but for some reason didn't yesterday which was fine with me since they had plenty of music to choose from. I think I might have found my new favorite Dive bar. read more

It really is the best! 3 dollar beers, awesome karaoke and people. You really gotta go on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays because that's when it really gets cookin'. I LOVE the bartenders and Kjs there!!! I know that many of my friends who have gone there tell me they didn't like it because they saw like strange characters and nothing is going on, but then it turns out they went on the slower nights. This is a great place to get some hepatitis. The bar is dirty and cluttered and the entire place smells like a combination of puke, piss and a homeless guys ball sack. The local patrons are creepy and I think a few of them might have been on Americas Most Wanted or To Catch a Predator. Aside from all that the drinks are cheep but the Grey Goose tasted like well vodka and I could barely drink it because of the smell of the bar. The two times I have been there I could only handle one drink and have had to leave because it is so disgusting. I love dive bars and most of the time enjoy the people there but this place took me to a all time low and I am still recovering from the horrible mental pictures in my head of this so called dive bar. Went in over the weekend to meet a friend who tends to find himself there from time to time. It went a little like this: off duty bartender / and on duty bartender acting like bitches to one another. Arguing about how to make drinks. A guy who does speak without the use of an aid that he shoves in his mouth and its so old its hardly audible. It sounds like a vibrator. He drives the girls wild! ( and yes he Karaokes) A long hair fat guy comes in to talk shit and drink beers with the bartender and wants to be funny so he pulls down his pants down behind the bar to tell her to kiss his ass and then falls down. (a 300 lbs guy with pants down and hammered doesnt recover quickly) Drank for the better half of 4 hours and bill came to $36.00 Its a definite dive bar. A lot divier than the one we call "dive" by my pad. Then again, bellflower has a way of making that sort of magic come alive. read more

I love this place! Not because it's "popping". Not because the crowd is vibing. Not even because the drinks are amazing. Nope. I love this place because the bartenders are great, they take drink suggestions, pour stiff drinks, and sometimes bring you chips because they don't have bar peanuts. They don't serve food so the "Steakhouse" sign is misleading. Really, no food whatsover. BUT they usually have no issues if you bring your own. I came here on a Sunday night and there were two older patrons. We put $20 bucks in the jukebox and stayed the rest of the night there. Great tunes, cheap drinks and a good time. When you walk in there there is a 90% chance it will be empty and there will be some random infomercial on the t.v. So you have to bring the party with you. read more

If you've ever been to Hawaii, the Hawaiian Room is nothing like it. It resembles nothing from Hawaii or Hawaiian culture or Hawaiian anything. Actually if you imagine a bunch of random things that have nothing to do with Hawaii, those things would probably have more in common with the Hawaiian Room than Hawaii itself. Anyhow. I came here during the 2008 NBA playoffs because my boyf and I wanted to find a place that was local, served drinks and showed the game. Since we didn't know the area well and were without means of using Yelp, he had called a friend to look up some local bars. And this baby came up. This was a perfect environment to watch the game. We were the only non-white people in the bar. After the boyf got a little tipsy off some great tasting Widmer (the beers and drinks in general are very reasonably priced), he struck up a very animated conversation with another guy at the bar who happened to be Texas and was rooting for both the Lakers AND the Celtics... and then neither. And then told us he didn't know much about basketball but wanted to know what ethnicity we were. So it went on like that, with various levels of speaking volumes and then we left. THIS Hawaiian Room PLACE ..This is getting real close to what I call a DIVE BAR. When I read YELP reviews about a bar that warn "Enter at your own risk." I have to try it out. This is a great place to get some sort of virus from the unwashed glasses. 'Put it in a dirty glass' I always say ..Beer from the bottle is still sketchy..everything I touched was sticky. ..cool red booths where you can escape your girlfriend/ boyfriend, friends in general, get a good bender going or make new friends with the local criminal, drug, hooker, drunks. At one time you can see this was a Brilliant little TIKI bar in a half suburban wasteland that Time, Money, and Morels forgot about .... they have this Pool table with this vintage BBQ made of brick .really cool architecture .. on this I saw a burned Hotdog that look like it was a week old laying on the grill..it was like iT was staged WOW THIS PLACE IS DIRTY... 8am to noon early bird special $2.75 drafts is amazing. Granted, right now there are only 4 taps of pure garbage, but they've installed (10?) new taps and are just ready for the kegs. Afternoon happy hour starts at 3pm!!!!! So, basically, don't come between noon and 3 like I did. The crowd is all local, the girls are from the other sister bars and all friendly. If you don't mind the tougher room, then this place has more eye wonder than shipwrecks in Cerritos. read more

New favorite dive. Good music and cheap drinks. Super good DJ that actually mixes his music and doesn't just press play. The bartenders are AWESOME and Monroe and Candy, the owners are the most down to earth, friendly and welcoming people. It's a tiki/Hawaiian theme and very cute decorations with seats in the bar area and a dance floor where you can get down with the smooth sounds of the DJ. definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a good dive, cheap drinks, good people and awesome music. this is the most randomest bar ive been to. I went here with 3 other people. and the total count in the room was 6. Us, some other random guy, and the cooky bartender. The bartender there was the real story haha. she made us long islands which were pretty ok in price, but she substituted some stuff and made it "her own" hmmm...whatever it was, it was pretty good. A dive bar with a past and a lot of Potential. Do you love the TI-KI room at Disney well here you don't have all the enchanted cr** to deal with . This is a true Dive bar yes it has PBR . At one time it Had some form of carpet or floor covering that is long gone. the bar stools are missing there backs and much of the place is held together with bubblegum bailing wire and Hope. I was in the Bellflower area and Yelped a few dive bars looking for something simple but different. I came across The Hawaiian Room and its mixed reviews, and figured the only way to know is if you find out first hand. So we gave it a shot. Its located in a liquor store plaza so there's limited parking and the street parking gets filled by neighbors. As you walk in it does have a tiki vibe to it I was expecting jus a tiki torch and picture of Bob Marley, but it was alright couldnt complain. The waitress are all good looking and wearing almost nothing at all, just in case you bring a date you will get caught looking. Drinks are cheap what normally cost 100 a bar it cost 45 dollars mixed drinks and beer for two. Crowd was cool everyone laid back having a great time. Its a dive bar dont get all (gangster crowd) it has everyone. Clean bathrooms and never waited for a drink always one in front if me before I finished my current beer that was nice definitely coming back. read more

hawaiian. the word has the power to conjure up images of white sand beaches, palm trees, and bikini-clad women (or for you of the opposite sex, speedo-sporting men). plain and simple, the word is synonomous with paradise...that is, until you set foot inside the hawaiian room. a night here, rather than resembling a trip to hawaii, is much more likely to provide a mental trip. case in point: (1) funky-looking bar: the bar ceiling looks like lava rock; the proprietor said that they filmed a couple episodes of "the 5th wheel" here (2) random clientele: there was a customer sparking up w/ his one hitter while sitting at the bar; another customer was walking around with her bra exposed, as she willingly let some guy fondle her breasts; later we saw a drunk customer kick a woman in her gut (not that it makes it any better, but apparently he knew her) (3) alcohol-chugging proprietor (an older korean lady named candy): she outdrank all the customers combined that night; she's as nice as they come, however, and even hooked us up w/ a free shot; her presence alone will provide you with all the entertainment needed while it can accurately be said that this place resembles nothing consistent with "hawaiian," one thing is clear: hawaii has got nothing on this joint. note: bottled beers are 2.75, karaoke on friday nights, bbq on sundays read more

When i first walked into this place i was like "ok its small,dark,and small. My friend brought me here so i figured she knows this place,she must like it. I thought what the heck ,I'll sit and have some beer and a good conversation with my bff. They were playing all types of music,from heavy metal to country to corridos (spanish music). I would have given this place at least 3 stars BUT when I check my bank account they went ahead and added their own tip. That made me so so so angry. I figured thats what happens for getting to tipsy and not marking 0 on the tip. I was there this Sat and the girls were lovely. The service was fast. But the security guard was an ass ! He calls out last call for drinks at 1:45 and then starts kicking us out at 1:50. WTF ! was that 5 mins to swallow your drink. What happen to the bar closing at 2 ? Was not happy Don't think I would recommend that place to anyone. Walking in the bar it had all possibilities of being amazing, the decor is great and the mood felt right. Everything dramatically changed as soon as we met the bartender, he used arm flailing flair to make up for his inability as a bartender. Instead of making the drinks my friends asked for he made excuses and asked what color they wanted, which ended up tasting like watered down tequila. My friends are not ones to complain but these cocktails were undrinkable. We explained this to the bartender and figured a rum and coke is easy enough but he ended up ruining a two ingredient drink. I'm really kicking myself for not asking the bartenders name but he worked tonight Saturday March 5th and wasn't the kind bartender with the mustache who was nothing but courteous. This place is whaaaaaack. I'm from Hawaii and it's almost an insult to even have our island's name associated with it. I'm a beer drinking kinda chick so I'm not high maintenance at all. However, when the place smells like sewer, I draw the line, lmao. We came on a Friday night, just to hang out, have some drinks, and chill but after an hour of listening to gangster rap and having our super drunk bartender jack up all the drink orders, we had to bounce. Oh yeah, and then there was that group of nasty a$$, super drunk guys hitting on everyone in our group. Who asks the girl he's trying to hit on for a stick of gum??
