This is the place to go if you're looking for that obscure spice that one recipes calls for. You can get anything here!! They sell most of their spices starting at 1 oz. or 2 oz. quantities and then you get a per unit discount if you buy in larger quantities. I walked out with 1 oz. of dried porcini mushrooms and 2 oz. of onion powder for $10.38. I'll have to go home and try these out in recipes to be able to speak to quality and freshness but the amount of traffic the store had makes me think they are consistently restocking their bins. I didn't look as closely at the other sections but they have coffee, snacks, dried fruits, beans, nuts, and grains for sale by weight as well. There is also a collection of hot sauces and condiments. My dream pantry would have one of everything this store offers! I'm going to dig up all the ethnic recipes I can find so I have an excuse to come back here! read more

Like this place a lot. They have several aisles of tubs of delicious nuts, spices, seeds, etc. My favorites: cumin, Hungarian paprika, almonds, cashew butts. It is fun just wandering the aisles and looking at/sniffing their spice options. They have big tubs of already-mixed nuts too which look pretty good. Also coffee. This was a fun shop to browse around and buy bulk foodstuffs. They had quite a few spices, some of which are hard to find at the grocery store (e.g., fenugreek, Aleppo pepper flakes, ras el hanout, to name a few...). They also had a wide selection of baking ingredients, coffee beans, and snack nuts. I ended up purchasing some butter toffee almonds and roasted fava beans, both of which were delicious. So glad I found this neat store! They have a huge selection of coffee beans and they look and smell fresh. There are flavored beans as well as different roasts and origins. I tried the Blueberry, French Caramel and Cream, and Turkey. It smells amazing--can't wait to brew. They also have a lot of loose leaf teas. I tried the ginseng oolong, two other oolongs, and loose leaf pu-erh. Love this shop! read more

I've had better experiences other places. The staff was very rude, and the place itsself isn't accommodating. First of all, they don't offer a credit option. I was very surprised that a store of this caliber was not offering a credit option. Secondly, the staff was ignoring and being ignorant to first time customers. The cashier would rather drink the beer he had hidden at the register than help a customer. Also, I think getting drunk or drinking while at work is deplorable! Where was the boss? Did the store run out of water ? Anyway, we won't be back in any time soon. I'd rather go to teavana then this place. read more

My friend and I stopped here to buy some coffee after we had lunch. The prices I thought were reasonable and the coffee is absolutely delicious. I bought a pound of the Liberty Bell Coffee. It smelled delicious and tasted even better. All the employees were polite and the store was clean. I would definitely go back here. read more

Okay, so we've talked about why niche shops make me super uncomfortable, but this one-star review isn't related to my social ineptitude. The first time I came in here, there was not a single other customer. I had already trekked all up and down Chinatown and most of RTM, and was visibly burdened by my loads. I started down an aisle, saw no bags or mini shovels for the spices so I go back up to the counter. I ask the lady how it worked. She said I had to bring the containers of what I want to her, and then she'll weight and charge me for the amount of each item I desired. Okay. I set my stuff down by the door as out of the way as possible, and start wandering for my spices without any further assistance. I manage the bulky containers of pink peppercorn and whole cardamom pods to the counter. Paid about $13 for an ounce of each. Not a happy girl at this point. Second (and now that I've found Spice Corner) FINAL visit: I remembered that they don't help you with anything, so I made a point to stop in first. I was looking for "Greek seasoning", just your generic spice blend that's a shortcut for flavors. The lady behind the counter was wearing a ratty, yellowing, semi-translucent TIGHT white t shirt with black ripped jean shorts that are too small and ending well above where I'm comfortable with shorts ending. I don't have any business being fashion police or place judging outfits; I just don't want to be grossed out in a food store by what the clerk is wearing. In any case, I asked her about Greek seasoning, she sized me up doubtfully. She was previously engaged in conversation with a male clerk, and rather reluctantly turned her head only to look at me confusedly. I go to muttering mode about how it's a blend of spices, like curry powder or what have you... I'm trailing off. She thinks about it for a moment, decided that they probably don't have it, told me they probably didn't have it, and returned to her conversation with the other clerk. I guess at least our feelings toward each other are mutual: no thanks. Oh and if you're looking for coffee in RTM, Old City Coffee has really nice people and the Balzac Blend is fantastic & fairly priced! If you're looking for common spices (basil, cumin, rosemary, thyme that kind of stuff), OK Lee has a wall of these for $2.99 each. read more

I can't believe I haven't been here before. The staff is helpful and the rules about not touching the spices make sense. Reasonable prices too. Got ground peppercorns, whole cloves, and cinnamon sticks (making pho) for less than $10. Actually $9.33 to be exact. They let me use credit by charging me $10 and giving me the change back. A little gem hidden in the very back of Reading Terminal Market! Container after container of snacks, coffees, teas, candy, and spices, this store is a baker/cooks dream. Everything is done in bulk; you just grab your container and head up to the counter. First time at Reading Terminal Market and thought this place was a cute gem. It's tucked in the corner near the book shop and the restrooms. I wouldn't say the prices are a bargain but I was glad to find aleppo pepper spice in the bulk section cause I rarely find this spice elsewhere. It was a nice break to walk through this store to get away from the Friday lunch rush. They have funny signs and the name is funny. If you're in the market, go check it out. read more

The prices, selection, and quality of the goods compared to other stores is what sets this place apart from competitors. A bakers cupboard, you can find anything you need here. I only wish they would let you pack your own bags instead of having to take the containers to the cashier. It's a pain in the butt when there are 10 or more people in the store, which is unfortunately very small. However if you're there throughout the day, this is hardly an inconvenience. read more

We were in desperate need for lavender for an ice cream recipe and turns out it's not as easy to come by as you would think. This spot is just perfect for all your spice, herb, coffee, tea (and sprinkle) needs. Everything is measured by the pound and isn't as expensive as fancy artisan packaged herbs you would find anywhere else. Not only were the prices are extremely reasonable but the fact that it is in Reading Terminal Market makes it even better. Yay! Doing Jury duty this week and hanging at reading terminal market for lunch break as it is soooo close. I have discovered a new tennant - one I am familiar with!! Yes, The head Nut is now in a 4th location. I have been to the original location in Ardmore and LOVE their coffees, nuts, spices, etc. The location at reading Terminal MArket is a smaller, compact space compared to Ardmore, but, they have a good selection. So, today I bought two of my fave coffees they sell. The price is Great and even greater when you purchase 3 lbs in one bag. Plus, they have a monthly sale coffee beginning the first of the month. the Manager at this location says the key here is to keep the space "light and airy". So, when you are ready to venture this is how you order: grab the container with product you would like and stand in line. The coffee roast's I chose: Turkish and Tanzanian Peaberry. They also have the Roma and a good selection of Decaf roasts. Yay and welcome to Reading Terminal market! read more

Tucked away in a corner of the reading terminal, this shop has some really good treats, I love yogurt covered almonds and malted milk balls and other little treats, only drawback is that it is bulk so there are minimums to buy that I am not a fan of. read more

While I think this place has fair prices and good product, I will avoid returning due to their service. I went in today to purchase pickling spice. They have a $10 minimum, which isn't terribly unusual for places at Reading Terminal, but I didn't know that until the cashier had bagged the spice for me. I asked if I could look for something else to get me to $10, and he began to help someone else, which was fine since I left the counter. I returned less than five minutes later with the container I wanted, and when the second cashier was free, I approached him. When he realized the other guy had already measured something for me, he told me I would have to wait and be server by the cashier THAT WAS HELPING SOMEONE ELSE WHILE THIS GUY STOOD THERE DOING NOTHING. He then helped another customer while I waited, carrying a heavy bin and three bags of groceries, and then SAT DOWN AND TOOK HIS DAMN PHONE OUT AND CONTINUED TO REFUSE TO TAKE MY MONEY. I waited at least ten minutes for the other guy to be free, and then had to wait for him to clean his register before he could measure my almonds and take my money. I don't care how cheap they are, I won't be returning. read more

Discovered this place recently and fell in love. I was making an Indian dish which required me to buy pretty much a whole new spice rack. The staff, though busy, were friendly and helpful. The cashier labeled each bag for me and also kept them all together at the front for me. I was able to pay with my credit card and left a satisfied customer. I love that each of the bulk-bins not only labels contents but prices for several different weights. The only issue with this store is that the space is admittedly a little tight, but it is well worth the occasional squeeze around others to visit. read more

I really like the Head Nut! I have been hearing the commercials on KYW news 1060 on the radio about getting mix nuts and coffee and spices. My daughter told me to buy your tea, coffee and seasonings there because they are fresh and you get as much as you want other than the supermarket! She is right! They sell loose teas and coffee of a variety of selections in flavors and blends. Certain coffee there are a bit high such as the Hawaiian coffee and some others. You can get 1/4 to 1,2 or 3 pounds of coffee. The staff there seems to be friendly whenever I visit there.And what is nice the staff ask you at the register if you want it ground fine or whole in what type of coffee maker you have. I get mine finely grounded since I gave a Gevila coffee machine. You have to carry the glass canisters to the register for the cashier to weigh and give you what you want. I also buy mix nuts there and they are very healthy and fresh! I buy Basmati rice, Jasmine rice and wild rice from there and it is much cheaper by pound then buying it from Whole Foods! Even it beats supermarket prices. There are a assortment of salt ,flour such as gluten free, cocoanut, Tapioca, and unbleached flour. That was a huge canister so I had to ask the casher to get it for me .I remember I wanted some rice and the Jasmine rice was filled to the top. I tried picking it up to take to the counter but it tipped over and some spilled on the floor. The casher person said, that is okay, that happens often. So she quickly swept it up. I hope it does not as far as people having accidents in a canister spilling over the contents of rice, coffee, salt or some seasoning or even flour on the floor. The store maybe small, but it is packed with healthy items I am sure people will buy over and over again there. I will! read more
