I have ordered from Penn Herb several times over the last 5 years and though their quality wasn't the best I returned because the prices and selection was good. But this time was my limit!! All of the herbs I purchased were far from okay but the worst is the rose petals that are crawling with bugs as you can see from the holes in the picture and if you look close enough you can see the little bugs!! The chamomile flowers are absolutely disgusting as well as you can see by the gross, old, dead color!! I will never order from them again and will tell all my herbalist friends to stay clear!! read more

Penn Herb Company - Mixed Feelings, Honest Take I was really looking forward to checking out Penn Herb Company, especially thinking it might offer more variety than what I've seen at Reading Terminal. And to be fair, they did have some cool options, a few new brands, and unique finds I hadn't come across before. Definitely a good spot if you're into wellness and herbal products it helped to take some time and read up on a few things. When we first walked in, the vibe seemed friendly and calm. My family and I (just the three of us) were really just browsing, not touching everything, and stayed together. But the energy shifted a bit. Only one older staff member acknowledged us--but she also seemed to be following us. We'd change aisles, and she'd change aisles too. At one point I asked, "Are you following us? If so, can you help me find the chlorophyll?" She did show us, but the experience rubbed me the wrong way. The price wasn't clearly marked as member-only, which I only realized later. Then, after she left, another staff member appeared in the same area--which made me feel profiled. Not a great feeling. At checkout, I gave my number to sign up for the membership, thinking I'd get the discount but I never received it, and no one explained why. Left feeling confused and a bit disappointed. This was just my personal experience, and maybe others have had better luck. But as someone who values both wellness and respectful service, this visit left me feeling a little let down. read more

Love this place! There's so many healthy items and herbs to choose from. If you are unsure what you're looking for, the very helpful staff gives you ideas of what they have available. If you don't see it in the store, they even order the products for you! Great customer service, very friendly staff! I usually buy the soaps which are organic and all natural or the body cream to fight my sore muscles. I'd suggest going to this place if you're looking for vitamins and herbs, or all natural ingredients. They even sell special organic cookies, and honey, and have weekly specials. If you sign up for a store card after you purchase a certain amount of items you get something free and you receive discounts through the mail as well as booklets of what is new in the store. If you go here check out the humidifier with the essential oils- I own one and it works great! read more

Penn Herb has recently opened this location at their factory. They are a health food a supplements market. The showroom is small, but it packs a lot of stuff in there. I'm not a big fan of supplements, but do love healthier alternatives and all natural foods, so I stopped in. What I found was a surprising selection of herbs and spices. Stuff that I normally buy from various markets such as Shop Rite or Target. But the prices here were much more affordable. About half the cost for stuff like cumin, which was a really nice surprise. Like I said, they offer health supplements, and they had those in abundance. But I skimmed and mostly skipped over this section. I gravitated towards their healthy loose and bagged tea selection and the variety was quite nice. While I cannot say one way or the other if they offer any real health benefits other than regular green and black teas, they do have some fantastic flavor combinations here. I walked away with more boxes of teas than I care to mention, but they've proven to be quite delicious. So a major thumbs up on that selection. They also had various dried fruits, assorted seeds and nuts as well as various fiber and protein infused snacks. Also found here are various fruit juices and extracts, great for cooking and baking. To top it all off, the staffers working here had a very nice attitude, bright smiles and offered help when I asked.Not much more you can ask for on that front. If you're into the health food thing, or just looking for healthy snacks, teas or drinks, I'd say Penn Herb is worth stopping in and visiting. They allow pet dogs (as well as service dogs of course) into this grocery store. How exciting! I love this store and their new building is fantastic! The manager, Frank, even confirmed with me, saying that "It's not against the rules to bring your pet dog in here". Wow! I feel like I'm in Europe! read more

I have been going to Penn Herbs since I was a 13 year old interested in natural remidies for ailments and healthy living. I have a strong love for the place and feel it is part of my roots as a Philadelphian. I am now passing on my herbal wisdom to my 9 year old (I am 40) and he WILL KNOW about Penn Herbs, which he has been to many times, as he grows. The new digital Kiosks in the 2nd street location are very helpful and parallell the big book on herbal knowledge they used to have there. They are run by a family of Jehovah's witnesses and have many witnesses as employers, but I don't mind even though I am a Wicca, we get along just fine. This is where our craft crosses, lol! You should know that they DO have great integrity and prices...and it is a great place, whichever location you choose to visit. read more
