I have had an excellent experience with Dr. Shakyan. I saw her for a second opinion after the first audiologist I saw upsold me on a premier hearing aid package for $8000. Dr. Shakyan confirmed that hearing aids would be helpful, but gave me options and put no pressure on me to make a quick decision. She also made me aware that hearing aids typically come with a 45 day trial period. I decided on hearing aids that were half the cost of the ones pushed by the other office. Today, I went to receive the hearing aids that were ordered. Dr. Shakyan explained everything clearly, patiently answered all questions, and adjusted them according to my comments. She also had me practice taking them on and off and showed me the features of an app that she encouraged me to download. I have been totally satisfied from start to finish. read more

Even though it's been awhile since I've seen Dr. Sol Marzghar, I've been a patient of his since early 2019. Dr. Sol Marzghar has been the ultimate lifesaver for me. When I first visited him, I had mild to moderate hearing loss with severe tinnitus (my perception of it). On a tinnitus questionnaire scale of 0 to 10, with 10 being the worst, most answers were in the 8-10 range. Years later I'm doing much better and I would say I fall in the 0- 3 range on the scale. I've greatly improved because of Dr. Sol Marzghar and what he has done for me. He prescribed for me Widex hearing aids with the built in Zen fractal tones for dealing with tinnitus. To be quite honest, I've not had to rely on the fractal tones for a long time due to my habituation (doing far better than when I first started). Dr. Sol Marzghar can help you just like what he's done for me, if you give him a chance. Last but definitely least is his front office assistant named Janet, she is remarkable and keeps everything running so smoothly in that front office. read more

Title: Two-Hour Commute, The Flu, and Zero Empathy at The Hearing Doctor I had a deeply disappointing and frustrating experience with The Hearing Doctor in Culver City. I first made this appointment in early November and specifically informed them I had to come in December due to my insurance coverage limitations, hoping I could get in quickly. My appointment was already rescheduled twice by the clinic. The first time was because I had the flu, and they appropriately told me I should wait to come in. Both times they rescheduled me, it was only for 4:30 p.m., forcing me into the worst possible traffic. The clinic never warned me about these issues, even though I told them on the phone I was coming a long distance. I attempted to plan proactively: I left my house at 2:30 p.m., giving myself a generous two hours to arrive safely, even though GPS predicted the trip would only take an hour and eight minutes. Despite my efforts, the traffic at that time of day meant the journey still took a full two hours while recovering from the flu, in an area where it literally takes 10 minutes to drive one block. The complete absence of compassion became clear when I called the office while en route to ask about parking. I explained I was stuck in the gridlock. That is when the staff member became incredibly rude and heartless, flatly telling me they would not see me because I might be a few minutes late. They could not extend a three-minute grace period, despite the two-hour commute I was currently enduring. The complete absence of human understanding was ridiculous and entirely unacceptable. Their priority seemed to be strict adherence to an arbitrary schedule over basic patient care. I told them I would never come back, and I will actively encourage others not to visit this establishment either. A business that treats its clients this way does not deserve patronage. To be clear my appointment was at 4:30 I left my house at 2:30 for a 1 hour and 8 minute trip. When I called her it was 4:17 and I told her that GPS was telling me it would take exactly 25 minutes which means I would still be within their 15 minute grace period this didn't matter because she said it would take time to check in and Park. I saw Dr. Marghzar after developing moderate hyperacusis and tinnitus. My entire world shut down and I could barely leave the house. It was quite possibly the most isolating and darkest experience of my life. I got my hearing tested on 12/24/2024 and had moderate hyperacusis (but trust me it was debilitating and felt severe) I'm very sensitive so I was scared the treatment would be too much but it wasn't. He eased me into it and I felt confident doing the exercises. I started the TRT on 1/20/2025 and today (3/7/2025) had my hearing retested. My LDL went from being around 64db to 82db and I am confident I'll make a full recovery. Dr. Marghzar gave me my life back and I am forever grateful. He's so kind and empathetic and really teaches you about how and why tinnitus and hyperacusis happens. My tinnitus is remarkable better too. The best person to see for tinnitus or hyperacusis, my only regret was not seeing him earlier. Went to a number of top ENTs and audiologists before who gave me no clear path to helping me. After seeing Sol and doing a number of tests, he gave me a plan of attack and exercises to do. Dr. Marghzar has literally saved my life. I have been going deaf for a while now due to child abuse as a child. I have been very sensitive about losing my hearing in so many different ways. Tinnitus Retraining Therapy is only for those who's hearing issue is only from hearing loss, which is extremely rare. If it had a root in your overall health, and could be from toxicity or disease in your body, this treatment won't work for you. And once you need the emotional support that Dr. Sal teaches you about for $400 per one hour session- he doesn't follow through with it and won't even reply to emails asking additional questions or for a little more support. The inner ear is connected to our emotional and nervous systems. I believe there's a much deeper healing process required than what The Hearing Doctor has to offer, and it doesn't cost nearly as much!! I wore the device for over 7 months and it ended up being too uncomfortable in my ears to continue wearing. It was also making me more dizzy, so I discontinued and now am working on other more holistic methods to heal. read more

Be forewarned!! I recently tried to make my second appointment at The Hearing Doctor in Culver City. A medication I am taking could adversely affect my hearing, so it is important to have my hearing checked periodically. At my first appointment several weeks ago, I had a little difficulty getting along with Janet the receptionist; but the doctor, Dr. Glicksburg, was professional and delightful. Last week I called to make a second appointment and spoke to Janet who told me that I needed a doctor's referral for a hearing test. I was surprised because no such requirement was needed for Appt #1, nor is it customary for any doctors, dentists, eye doctors, etc. etc. to require a referral And I am an existing patient at The Hearing Doctor. I then contacted my primary doctor and asked him to call Janet. And I gave Janet my doctor's contact info to follow up. its now been almost a week, never heard back from Janet which doesn't surprise me. So I made appointment with another audiologist, easy peasy. In summary, the kerfuffle with Janet was about 20 minutes of not-so-nice back and forth on the phone--and was so upsetting, it kept me awake until 2:30 am. read more

He is the only doctor who really took time to connect with my father and figure out what would be best for him. I was referred to The Hearing Doctor by my ENT, who required I get an audiogram. My audiologist was Dr Avila. He thoroughly explained the results of my tests, made me feel comfortable, and ensured i had no further concerns. I definitely left my appointment with a better understanding of my ailment as well as a more positive outlook on recovery. The office is located in a new building in downtown Culver City. Theres plenty of 1 hr street parking, and $8 garage parking in the building. Only issue I experienced is that they do not accept my current insurance provider Cigna, which Is one of the top providers in CA. This is actually the first time I've come across this. Fortunately the audiogram was only $85, so I paid out of pocket. Other than that, I highly recommend the Hearing Doctor. read more

I found Dr Marghzar on the Internet after having brain surgery to remove a brain tumor. Since having surgery, I'm suffering from tinnitus. It is awful. Dr Marghzar has a very kind and sympathetic disposition. He explained my condition, as well as the entire process to me, very clearly. His staff is also very very nice. He has fitted me w/ two (nearly invisible) hearing aids (one for each ear), which help me hear better and retrain my brain to ignore the tinnitus. When he first explained this to me, it all seemed very "sci-fi", BUT IT WORKS! Right now, my hearing is better than before I had brain surgery. Last night, I attended a party for the first time since surgery and didn't feel left out of conversations or disconnected. I also DIDN'T think about the tinnitus once. I wrote an honest review last time.. and they made a complaint to the lawyer of my friend called me unprofessional for sharing my experience in this place... and she was afraid that she wasn't able to complete her next appointment so I was forced to delete my review.. which I think it's unprofessional for them to do that than apologizing.. (I wasn't the only person they kind of acted rudely too.. just look at previous 1 star review in the comment) maybe it's time to correct the assistant of the office... it's just the way they communicate is not professional... their doctors were very NICE... and I have nothing bad to say for the doctor... but a company is only a good company if ALL the employees are respectful This was the deleted review.. I came here just to take my friend for her appointment... and due to LA traffic to Culver City... traffic was extra bad on a Monday morning at 9am. We tried calling to let them know we are coming late.. but the office don't even open until 9am.. so we couldn't let them know ahead of time. Around 9:15am. The assistant called and was super rude.. and the fact that my friend has limited English.. she wants very helpful or understanding of the situation.. and insulted us for not caring about our appointment for being late.. when we've been driving for almost two hours just to get here and I had to take a day off just to accompany my friend because she was traumatized to drive alone after her car accident. Overall. She insisted that we should reschedule where we are only 3 miles away.. This office and in particular, the front staff is so very nice and goes the extra mile to help. I couldn't be more pleased I found them on Yelp. My friend is 87yrs and her sister died,suddenly, out of state. I got her booked on the first flight, but her hearing aid cleaning wire couldn't be found and she couldn't put her battery in to hear. So I checked Yelp to see what was close by and called to see if they had what she needed. Not only did they have it, we didn't have to waste a minute and they wouldn't charge her, plus gave her an extra, just in case. I'm responding to the answer on my review. Here's the whole story. I was having a scratchy/static in one of my Resound hearing aids. I found the Hearing doctor online and called to tell them my problem. The receptionist stated that they would check it and clean it, etc for $45 but it might be $90 if they have to replace the wire. I thought that was a very reasonable price if it fixes it. They never said I needed an appt. I wasn't there to see the audiologist, only to drop off a hearing aid but once I got there the unfriendly receptionist said I wasn't in their system, duh, and I had to fill out a number of pages so I would be in their system. I did so and left. Later, the same day she called and said it's ready and I paid the $45 and left. When I got home the problem re occurred. I called back and said what about the wire replacement for the $90 I was quoted. She couldnt give me any answer except it was cleaned and a filter replaced. (PS. I have a whole box of filters in my drawer.). Static doesn't come from a dirty filter. I called back and was told I would have to send it back to Resound. I called Resound and was told that they don't take it in from a user, it must be sent from an audiologist. The Hearing Doctor manager wrote back after my unhappy review and said they were nice enough to take me without an appointment and would credit the $45 to a future visit. First of all I was never informed that I needed an appointment to drop off a hearing aid. I wasn't expecting or planning on meeting with an audiologist for $45. I wasn't looking for an examination, just a drop off with a note of the problem. I was going by what was told to me by the receptionist. You can keep the $45 and put it to a new receptionist who can answer a question. read more

Such a simply and easy going appointment we had this morning! I had found this office just by doing a yelp search and decided to go with The Hearing Doctor! Our appointment was scheduled with Dr. Avila for my boyfriend to get some super water proof ear plugs for when he surfs. He's been unable to surf for a few months due to a hole he has in his ear drum. Dr. Avila is so friendly and clear! This is an awesome plus! He's to the point and easy to understand. We had a particular company of plugs we wanted to go with, but would have had to do the shipping ourself and wait a long time since the company was in the UK. Dr. Avila was able to suggest a company called AquaNot that's in US and has a faster turn around with a guaranteed which is great. Saves us time and money! BC we can not go another few weeks with out waves! ;) He, also, was able to recommend us to an ENT and walked us to their office since it was in the same building! I def recommend him for everything ears! I'll do a follow up review after we use the ear plugs! read more

I have been suffering from tinnitus for as long as I can remember and have been to numerous hearing doctors and had a few MRIs done to my head to check for some abnormality causing the ringing and hearing loss. Every doctor has basically told me there was nothing to be done for the inexplicable hearing problems. I have begun to learn lip reading so when my hearing is completely gone I would be able to still communicate with people. I recently decided I would give it another go and look for an audiologist to check my hearing again. I found a list of doctors in my network and searched each of them on Yelp to h love me find one that specializes in tinnitus and specialized hearing problems. Dr. Marghzar figured it out!!!!!!!! I finally have answers and, it turns out, a simple surgery can fix me! He performed a slew of tests and has diagnosed me with a rare condition called otosclerosis and I have already made a pre-op appointment to hear again! Thank you so much to the Hearing Doctor. He has changed my life. You take your senses for granted until you start to lose one. I love music and I can't imagine my life without it. I am soooooo grateful!! read more

Awful. Beyond belief! Avoid this place. I went in for a hearing exam in early December 2021, referred by Aetna and a supervising company named Hearing Solutions. The doctor was fine but the office follow up was hideous. I ended up cancelling the order and starting over elsewhere. A few of the facts: Hearing devices were ordered from the ,manufacturer and conformed delivered by UPS on December 20. No word from The Hearing Doctor that they had been received. I phoned around January 10th. This office (in Culver City) claimed they never received the order. I had to make 3 calls to them and Hearing Solutions. Some of my calls to Culver City went through to this doctor's Beverly Hills office where an aggressive woman who answered the phones contradicted what someone from the same office had said a two hours earlier ("she's a temp. The doesn't know what she's doing.") and encouraged me to cancel the whole order. Finally I get a return call from the Culver City office trying to set up an appointment but they would only offer something weeks in advance. They further denied that there had ever been a delay or that they had ever said that the hearing aids hadn't arrived. I actually feel sorry for the doctors who are surrounded by a staff like this. Aetna took note of the office's behavior and set me up with another nearby office of a different provider. There's always Costco, also. I have a good set of devices at a reasonable cost and efficiently delivered. Aetna allows me a second pair, so I take advantage. read more

This place is a joke. The audiologist is a joke and their customer service is too. Been getting plugs made since I was 18 (pro musician) - been losing them regularly ever since. I've been trying to get a replacement set of plugs from these guys for over two months now, I call every week. Every week the receptionist says they'll call me back when they know when they're comin in. Have NEVER heard back. So now I leave shit review. Let's see if they call back. For 3 years I was suffering from what I found out was hyperacusis. I went to one ENT doctor and he said I should just get ear plugs and "hang on" since they were making big advances in that technology. Feeling desperate I went online and found that there was a method for treating it and I found Dr. Marghzar. He was able to cure what I thought was incurable and honestly saved my life. This was in 2011 and I haven't had a problem with it since then. I just thought of this recently and thought I would put up a Yelp review to thank him. read more

After a few disappointing appointments (one of which the doctor neglected to show up for) with another local hearing doctor who was urging me to purchase a very expensive hearing aid through him, I decided to trust my gut and get a second opinion. I looked up other doctors on Yelp, found Dr. M, made an appointment and boy am I glad I did! It was the total opposite experience of the other doctor. Dr. M listened, asked intelligent, insightful questions, and tested my hearing further. He demonstrated true caring as well as superior clinical knowledge. He has decades of experience and it shows. I got the feeling from him that he truly wants what is best for the patient and that is his foremost concern, not fattening his wallet. Dr. M concluded that at this time a hearing aid wouldn't be the best solution for my hearing loss. He gave me practical tips for how to cope with my damaged left ear and suggested hearing tests every 6 months to monitor it. I'm so grateful for this experience with Dr. M because he showed genuine care and he saved me a lot of money.
