My wife and I had dinner here while we were in town. Our waitress, Taylor, was phenomenal! We ordered the world famous Cordon Bleu Pork Schnitzel with a side of spatzles and a side of German potato salad. We also ordered a side of the Mushroom Cream Sauce to put on top of the schnitzel. When I say this was phenomenal, I am not joking. It was delicious! It was so delicious that we went back two nights later to have it again. The first visit we sat inside and the interior could use some work. The second visit we set out on their patio, which is very small with only four tables, but it was a lovely evening so we wanted to sit outside. The one positive thing I can say about this place is that there's plenty of seating if you have a big party. That's about it. First off, it took at least 8 minutes of waiting at the front before anyone acknowledged us. This should have been our sign to go somewhere else but we were hungry at the time. There were at least 4 waiters that passed us before one finally said that the hostess would be out. I understand it's busy and they might be short-staffed but they had all clearly seen us standing there longer than what should be normal. When the hostess finally came out, she didn't even bother to come all the way down the stairs. Instead, asked us how many people and pointed to some open tables. Once seated, the waitress we had stopped by pretty quickly, so we thought it would be ultimately be okay. She brought us waters, which one of them had this disgusting white film on it. One we ordered our food, we never saw our waitress again except an hour later to tell us our food would be another 10 minutes (spoiler alert... It was longer than that). I know the food wasn't her fault but to not come back at all throughout the hour is unacceptable. Luckily, we had ordered beers which kept us occupied until the food came. Once the food came, here's what we got: - Jagerschnitzel - DRY! The bottoms of the schnitzel were slightly burned. Mushroom sauce was oily. - Brat platter - Brat was meh. Not much flavor. The one good thing was the mashed potatoes. - Brat Sandwiche - Brat was small and lacked flavor. I wouldn't bother to waste your money here. If it takes this long to get seated then to get food, you're better off waiting that same amount of time at the other restaurants for much better quality food. Went back on 4/2/24 and our meals were not very good. Had the sauerbraten, very bland gravy (tasted like plain brown gravy over plain roast beef), the red cabbage also did not have much flavor. The food in Helen isn't all that great overall, but the Heidelberg is one of 2 exceptions. Everything we had was good, if you like German style food. Chicken Schnitzel was very good. The goulash had good flavor, but was not as hot as I had hoped on a cold day. I'd go back again when there. Suggestion: Bring cash. Visited the quaint town of Helen with a Christmas atmosphere. Ventured into this restaurant. Had to trek up three sets of stairs to have dinner at a table on a dance floor. Not the best seats. We ordered the grilled chicken breast with red cabbage and French fries. Chicken was ok. Also ordered the double lightly smoked pork chops. Very good!!! Served with red cabbage and mixed vegetables. Cabbage ok and the veggies were terrible!! The frozen veggies may have been sitting a while. When there is a town with many restaurants all with in walking distance, one should ensure every dish is spot on. These folks made it half way. Service was ok. Not my best review. The food was outstanding, but a couple of things: 1) they make you stand outside in the heat while you wait for your table to get ready and in the summer that's not fun. 2) they charge you a 3.99% credit card fee and think about it, who really uses cash these days? We ate here on our 2nd night in Helen. It was about 45 minutes before closing and we were seated immediately. Our server Ethan was absolutely fantastic. Great personality, funny and attentive. The food was fantastic. Turned out to be the best food we had during our entire week long stay in Helen. We had the Schnitzel Weiner Art, cordon Bleu, spatzle, and a side sausage (didn't catch which one). Everything was absolutely fantastic. Stopped here on a recommendation from a coworker. Service was lackluster, but not poor. Pretzel appetizer was overbaked. The outer part was quite hard to get through,but the flavor was good. My fried and breaded jagerschnitzel was cooked well and the texture was fine but it was quite bland. I added salt and pepper and it didn't help. Mashed potatoes were also bland. Red cabbage was good but had a lot of raisins in it. His grilled entree (I can't remember the name but it had Swiss cheese and mushrooms) was better than mine, had flavor and was cooked well. He didn't care for the potato salad becsuse it was also lacking flavor, but agreed the red cabbage was good. Got an apple strudel to go, by the time we got back home about 30 minutes later, it was as tough as shoe leather. Flavor of the apple filling was good, cinnamon dusting on it was a little much. Probably would have been better if I had eaten it fresh, but I was ready to go. Overall just a mediocre experience and wouldn't go again. Service was pretty quick for us, though our waitress was definitely in an unpleasant mood. The decor here is sweet and pleasant to look at, giving off a somewhat rustic diner vibe. If you get a table by the window, it's a great view! I would say that the food was not bad - we had their allgaeur zwiebelbratwurst, wurstsampler and schnitzel "das Heidelberg art." Severs were taking food to the tables by stacking plates on top of each other (bottom of plate was touching food on the below plate while server carried several dishes). Food came in huge portions.
