Tonight was our second time here and now I realize why it's been so long since our first visit. I should have given more consideration to the reviews. I seriously wondered if the pizza I ordered was a frozen out of the box pizza that they heated up (I think it's quite possible?) I have a tendency to order the same thing over and over, so I usually start my conversation with, "please do not let me order the "blah blah" this time. Came by here on a Friday night for a birthday girl's night. I left impressed! We came during happy hour, and the bar had no available seating so we just ordered a couple drinks in the bar and stood there while waiting for our table in the restaurant area to be available. Not more than 5 minutes passed and we were good to go. All of the servers were nice - with genuine smiles. Our waitress was superb - she made sure to follow the "no assumption" policy when taking empty glasses away just in case the customer wasn't *completely* finished with it. I liked that. The restaurant is clean, very simple modern looking. OPEN space. Not a large restaurant, if I were to guess I'd say there are about 15 booths and 10 tables, excluding the bar area. Our food is FANTASTIC. Spinach Dip: Well, I've had spinach dip at several restaurants and it was never my thing, but everyone else loves it so I figured I'd keep trying it until I find one I liked. And I am so glad I never gave up on it! This appetizer is PERFECT. The cheese is baked within the dip and on top. It is a great mix of spinach, artichoke and cheese along with their tortilla chips. I would go there again just for this! Chicken Marsala with Penne Pasta - Delicious. I had to stop myself from finishing it because I knew dessert was going to be coming (we were there for a birthday dinner after all). The chicken could have been a little more juicy, but the sweetness in the sauce made up for it entirely. The sliced toasted almonds were a nice touch too. Friends meals were: Chicken Mediterranean (roasted chicken breast). She said it tasted great! Pork chop with vegetables - she quoted this as excellent. I had to sneak away to request the birthday dessert, but I couldn't find our waitress and so I stopped another that I happened to see who knew which table I was sitting at (lucky!) and said she'd let the waitress know. They brought the dessert by without singing (Loved that! My prayer was answered in that there was no tacky happy birthday song sang!). It was a chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. The cake was a little grainy, not my favorite. But the ice cream and whipped cream tasted just fine! Only needed a few bites of it anyway. And the best part? No charge for the birthday dessert! The bill was under $100 for 3 meals, an appetizer, and about 7 drinks... that's not bad at all! I will definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and come back again. read more

So, I'm planning a memorial on the one year anniversary of my mother's passing ... Need a place for somewhere between 25-30 people. A week before the memorial, I make a reservation at this other "to remain unnamed" place. The day before the memorial, I get a phone call from the other place stating that they double booked, and I had been bumped. Seriously? You waited a week to tell me this? Now, I'm scrambling trying to find a decent place to go. My mom's business partner mentions that Mom loved eating lunch at The Heights restaurant. It's nearly five pm on a Friday night (the night before I need the space), but I go in and ask the manager anyway. Thankfully it's not a problem. The next day, we get to the restaurant (a bit later than planned) but everything was perfect. So thankful for all of the wonderful staff there. Can't say enough about this place. We loved this place on a Thursday night with a group of 10! Great drinks, great service, great food. Went back on a Friday night with reservations for a party of 4. Completely different experience! Very loud, very poor service, magician soliciting (pestering) tables, server never came back for a second drink order, & food served sporadically with one person waiting quite some time for their order after others served. If this had been our first experience here, we would never have returned. The menu & food is reasonable & fairly good. Glad there is now a nice sit down restaurant in this area. Since there were lots of errands/shopping to be done this weekend, we wanted to get it done in one prime location -- here! Decor is very nice with big, roomy booths. Menu is simple and not overwhelming. I had the chicken sandwich which had a nice spice to it and was filling. My partner in life & shopping for the day had the marsala chicken penne pasta. I did not taste but he enjoyed. Service was pretty good too. We were out of there in no time and on our way with the beagle's shopping list (doggy snacks) to PetSmart, of course! read more

I've only been here twice because I always forget that it is here. Not much to look at as far as decor goes but the food is pretty tasty and very reasonable in price. Happy hour is from 4 to 7 then again at 10 till closing. Casual attire and no reservation needed. read more

Went there last night for dinner & drinks with a friend. We had lots to catch up on; due to the extreme noise (well, it has a bar; even so, I felt it was extreme) we had to yell at each other from a foot away to be heard. Upon arriving, I noted all the classy hip details, and the hostesses were polite enough. We had about a 25 minute wait. Our waitess was very attentive. The view from our table was very nice as the restaurant was located on a rise at a higher elevation, with a valley and sunset view. The meal, however, was just so-so; I had the mahi mahi with some rather lame vegetables & a turned-over cup of plain rice. Quite uninspired. I honestly expected better given the hype and other details such as the fancy decor and menu. But, as we all know, that can always be misleading! I will give it another try, maybe have a burger or some ribs since that is what seems to be what they are more known for. read more

Pros: -Sunday happy hour all day! -Food is all wonderful, everyone in our party loved their meal. Cons: -Took roughly 30 minutes to get spinach and artichoke dip appetizer (there were only about 10 people in the restaurant when we arrived). -Cups of milk are small and do not include a refill (easy fix, just use bigger cups or offer a refill). So, thank God for the Yelp reviews. I decided to call before wasting the gas driving out there. WTRefrigerator is up with all of these so called open late spots in Upland closing 2-3 hours earlier than their given operation hours. Stop with the false advertising. We get you have the permit to stay open until later. Post the times you really have and serve business. No one wants to get their hopes up and planning together for false hope. Very disappointed.... They get the two stars for the phone response of "we have already done last calls." I get that this phrase can be used for more than just alcohol, but for an establishment that is projecting class, I think "I apologize, we are closing early tonight," or something to that affect, would be appropriate. My son and I decided have dinner at the Heights hoping our dining experience would be better than our past experiences. We ordered Filet and Ribeye Steaks @ $35 and $34 per plate along with salads @ $10 ea. Both our dinners came out Cold and not properly cooked (medium rare) as tthey were over-cooked. The mixed vegetables were well under-cooked and the potatoes were again cold. Our waitress was courteous yet doesn't make up for the horrible food served to us. Extremely DISAPPOINTED once again in the Quality of their food considering spending over $100 for 2-meals. Don't waste your money if your looking for a wonderful Steak Dinner. Ahi appetizer 3*- ahi was cut up into 1 cm cubes, mixed with liquid salt (soy sauce), bean sprouts, scallions. Served with wonton skins fried like chips. Coconut shrimp on a bed of cabbage with Ginger dressing 4* Nachos everything on it and then some 4*- I added jalapeño & extra salsa to each chip. Then hot sauce drizzled on top for the perfect bite. Large enough to share with 4 people! I didn't share. Bar tender: gorgeous female, nice attentive, drinks @ 1/4 fill, she'd come by and ask if we needed another. Of Course!!! She suggested the amber cider after I finished up the peach martini (3*)... I was delighted to fall in love with another Amber. Nice suggestion. Lots of older couples with their kids in the bar area (happy hours only in bar area). WiFi free. Flat screens on wall. Noise level was medium, so I didn't have to feel like my laugh was too loud. Downer: 9:30pm to car and a homeless man approached me and solicited. Being a single driver & it was dark, I was a bit fearful. I declined his request and he went to the next person in the parking lot. So next time, park under the lights or right up front. Or have a handsome prop escort you to your vehicle. read more

It is absolutely fantastic to have a new restaurant and bar located down the street from The Colonies in Upland. Within the shopping center at Campus and 19th Street, there are only a few sit down restaurants and this one did not disappoint. Only open a few weeks, there was a bit of speculation on stopping in so soon. When you first walk in, you notice the large flat screen TV's in the bar. There was a baseball game on and most tables were taken with a few seats available at the bar. We went on a Sunday evening and didn't have a wait. The hostess was welcoming as soon as we arrived and showed us right to our seat. We were sat in a large booth that could easily seat 6-7 people. It was just my wife and I and our 10 month old baby. The immediate atmosphere isn't overwhelming as the walls are a bit bare and the color is beige-ish. They definitely use a few pictures on the wall. We were promptly greeted at the table and the food came out quickly. When asked for recommendations, the server said that everything was good and she's tried everything on the menu and liked it all. The food was great and very generous portions. The menu has quite a few unique items that you wouldn't normally see on at a restaurant/bar. With that being said, they do have the normal burgers, steaks, etc. They even had milkshakes! There food was priced for a middle to higher end restaurant bar, similar to a claim jumper, elephant bar pricing. In terms of the "other" stuff...If you are looking for a quiet, sit down restaurant, this is not for you. It was about 75% full and was on the louder side. The server stated that is one of the only complaints they have had so far. Also, the main dining room fills up quickly. They do have a banquet room for parties up to 40, but open it up when they don't have a party for general dining or for those that want a more quiet experience. Overall, we liked the food and would recommend it. We weren't overwhelmed, but weren't expecting over the top for a restaurant and bar. We'd definitely go back and look forward to our next trip there...right down the street from the Colonies. read more

Having driven by this place numerous times, it was convenient one night when another restaurant closed earlier than we expected (not a good move by the way). We started off with the "Hot Legs." Please read along with me the description: Large Chicken Legs Coated in one of our Signature Sauces Buffalo, BBQ or Jim Beam Red Stage Bourbon. Served with celery sticks and Dipping Sauce. Large Chicken Legs. Here I'm thinking, "Cool, dark meat leg with buffalo sauce. Never seen that!" What you get is a bunch of drummettes. NOT chicken legs. Boo! Second boo for the severe overcooking they did to these drummettes. So bad we sent them back. Another batch was more tolerable despite still being overcooked. Why is it so hard to cook good chicken wings/drummettes people?! I tried both the Boneless Beef Short Rib (8oz. Braised Beef Short Ribs in a Red Wine Demi Glaze) and the 10oz. Bone in Pork Chop Served with Braised Apples. The Pork Chop was a clear winner here. Large and juicy. Good accompaniment with the apples. The Short Rib was as the waitress advertised, so tender you don't really need a knife. Only problem was that some places were still dry. And the reduction was slightly salty. I've been here 5 or 6 times and I've never had a solid experience but the last one will be the last time i try. The food time has always been inconsistent the service usually fine but the food quality has never been there and this time was no different. We ordered the Mediterranean chicken dish among other things. The chicken came out hot. Mash potatoes were room temp, veggies we as if the were washed and put on the plate and the pan cooked sauce was fresh out of the fridge. I report back to the waitress about it. Then a dish that originally took 18 minutes took maybe 3 minutes to hit the table again. We were told it was fresh and the kitchen didn't microwave it, yet the plate was hotter than the sun and had to be handed to me by towel. The chicken was not edible and the rest was scorched on the outside and still cold inside. This place has gone from adequate at best to just bad in to food category. I never even had a manager stop by to check in on us after the issue. Management is bad, servers are the only saving grace. Possibly good bartenders but I've never had an interaction to form an opinion. read more

I've had excellent service there before. So when catching up with a friend today, I was very disappointed that I chose this restaurant. The quality isn't the same. I ordered the seared ahi salad and for a 15/16$ salad, there shouldn't be canned pineapple on it. The quality of the ahi was great. But not pleased overall. My friend ordered the bass. Which was prepared well. By the rice on the side was bland with no flavor. For a 70$ lunch, the quality should be there. As well as it taking an hour to receive our order. It's a hit or miss with the food. The chicken marsala is always good, but the sourdough burger is good one day and bad the next day. Same with the coconut shrimp appetizer, and the caprese appetizer, its smaller than it used to be. You could also include a small house salad or cup of soup with your entree, instead of paying extra for it. Dont forget sourdough rolls if you get takeout. read more

We just had dinner there tonight. I hear it was crowded every night this past week, but tonight a Saturday night it wasn't too crowded. It was just over half to 3/4 full while we were there, which was nice for us. The place had a very positive vibe going, most everyone was talking, having fun and seemed happy. I usually look for this to see how everyone else is reacting to the restaurant. The first dish we had was the Pork Chops with stewed apples and the mashed sweet potatoes. The sweet potatoes could have used a bit more brown sugar to bring out the sweetness. However, the pork chops were terrific. The cut was very good and it was cooked to perfection. When I make pork chops, I over cook them for fear of raw pork and they turn out dry and fibrous. The ones at The Heights was moist and tender, with just the right amount of flavor. The softened apples were a perfect compliment to the pork, soft but not mushy. The side of green beans were also done nicely, firm and sweet. The second dish we had was the Macadamia Crusted Mahi Mahi and we liked it. One of the previous reviewers thought it was overcooked, ours wasn't. Maybe they thought that because the crust was a little dark and hard, possibly overcooked but the fish itself was cooked well. If the fish itself was overcooked, it would have been dry, which it was not. The sauce that the Mahi Mahi laid in was very flavorful and we couldn't get enough of it. I wished we would have asked for some more on the side. It was accompanied by a mount of white rice on the plate which was a little bit too starchy for our taste, but everything else on the plate made up for it. We had the bread pudding for dessert. It was moist but not mushy. Can you tell I'm not a big fan of mushy food? It laid in a rich sweet sauce that was so good we gobbled it all up. It was topped with a very smooth and rich whipped cream, the only thing that spoiled it was our fully tummies! Now for the best thing we had there...the herbal ice tea! It was not sweetened and very fruity. We each drank two glasses full, probably also why we were stuffed after dinner! The greeters and the wait staff were fantastic. Very friendly, and since it was my first time there, the waiter gave very honest recommendations. That I really appreciate! He came back to give us an update on our food, checked if we needed anything several times, and even had drink refills out to us before we had to ask. He and several people came by our table to ask us what we thought of our dinner, and seemed genuinely interested in our feedback. I wish I would have been honest with them, but I was having such a good time, I didn't want to ruin it with minor criticisms. I don't know if its because they're still working out the kinks, or they were trying to wet my appetite to come back, but there were a few menu selections that were not yet available. One item listed on the menu that I can't wait until they finally offer is the Sandy's Pork Chops. The tomato reduction sauce and the grilled tomato accompaniment sounds yummy. I went here with some friends, and we sat ourselves at the bar. Service, at first, seemed a little cold, but the bartender seemed to warm up, and was pretty polite and helpful as time went on. Maybe she was busy, though. I sometimes mistake a hurried server for being rude. They had a decent selection of wines, which I liked. I ordered a red, and it was a generous pour. My friends' cocktails looked tasty. I ordered the portobello sandwich with fruit as a side, one friend ordered the spinach dip, and another had the caprese. Both of theirs looked fantastic. I was disappointed in mine. For $9.50, I expected something more.. exciting than what I had. The bread was solidly toasted, and really greasy. It tasted, looked, and felt like cheap, generic wheat bread. The bread was so dried out, it hardly could contain the inside of the sandwich -- the inner stuff was pretty good, though. The fruit was fresh, and presented in a cute style (sliced grapes, alternating slices of apples and oranges around it), but poor choice of fruit to accompany a sandwich or burger. The green apples were horribly tart and sour; a bad complement to a hot meal. I probably will give it another shot, based on the decent prices and service, but I won't be ordering a sandwich again. read more

The heights is a higher end pub with a TVsome / sports area and taller tables - with. Tiles floor seating area behind it. It's got a page of burgers and sandwiches and a page with steaks, pasta and specialties. Drinks are good sized Service is pub style Dress is casual - come as you are! The food however is ok, not creative and really just fills a basic need, not much else. I had the pasta Venzia - no taste at all and the chicken was absolutely bland and the white sauce was mostly cheese. My wife had a Casadea, ok nothing wrong with it at all. We had reservations for 8 but really didn't need them. The place was busy but still able to walk in and get a table. The wine selection was a bit disappointing. I was expecting more from a place that calls them self a wine bar. The claim chowder soup was very good. The menu selection had a wide variety of food but I settled on the chicken salad croissant sandwich and it was tasty. The ambiance in this place is upscale for the inland empire. They have a new bleu cheese burger that my wife just loves. I usually go for the sourdough burger. Since they are 1/2 lb burgers, we go with medium well. So, both burgers were extremely over cooked, my wife's burger was tepid, they forgot the onion strings and the mustard horseradish aioli, and the worst part of the evening was no Pomona Queen on tap. 3 other tables close to us tried to order it but they only have the 22 oz. bottle. And what replaced it? Modelo!!!!!! Mediocre food, mediocre service and better burgers other places. read more
