Let me start by saying this was not our first choice of the day. In fact, it was our third. But I have zero regrets having ended up here instead of the other two, which had absurd wait times or zero handicap parking. While we did have to park in the parking under the little shopping mall and use the elevator, then trek back to The Herb Box, it was entirely worth it. No wait at all and the person seating us took into consideration our canes and whatnot to seat us at the most comfortable seats. The waitress was a dream. She listened to my allergens, asked for some of the things I might be interested in, and then headed to the kitchen to ask. We modified a little bit on the items I got, though it was less off-roading than usual. The tacos were amazing. Filled to the brim and so much I had to take half of the second one back to the hotel and eat it later. The black bean mango 'salsa' had no heat but was delightfully rich in flavor, which was perfect for me given some mouth issues I have. Plantain chips were cooked in the fryer with avocado oil, which meant I could have them! The charcuterie had an amazing dill manchego that was one of the best cheeses I've had a in a long while. The fig jam and the seed mustard were A+ and the herbed pickles were good as well. I found myself not really caring for the meats they used though. I didn't take any stars off for that because my father liked them just fine, just wasn't my taste as I'm more of a pepperoni/salami kind of person for boards like that. I took enough back to the hotel that I had dinner and then even had breakfast in the car on the way home. I have had lunch at Herb Box Shea twice in last month. Both were disappointing. The short rib tacos were OK but a bit fatty. I had the butternut squash enchiladas which I usually have & they were dismal! Mostly corn-could barely find squash. It seemed the enchiladas were reheated in a micro because you couldn't cut with a fork; half way thru with a fork it was tough-hard. The salad had too much dressing-soggy & some of arugula was dark & not fresh! I will not be going back! Seriously $6 for iced tea! read more

We went here for a Mother's Day brunch-in their defense, we weren't aware that it was a buffet, we thought it was just going to be a regular menu. However, I am never adverse to a good buffet though! Unfortunately, this was not a good buffet. The food was completely unappetizing looking and such a bazaar combination of food. It wasn't busy at 7:20 PM on a Saturday, our party of two was seated immediately. There's underground parking and a lot out front. I ordered the blackened shrimp avocado Baja bowl. It was a big portion, I only ate half. The shrimp was a bit too salty, I had to chase each bite with water and the sweet potatoes. My wife liked her steak salad, said the meat was tender. Aubrey was our server. Can she read minds? I was thinking about how I'd like more water. A minute later my glass was topped off. Such a cute spot for brunch with your vegan and non veggie friends! The decor is beautiful and very spacious. I went on a brunch date with pookie and enjoyed our meal and the vibe. We started off with a couple of mimosas and I indulged in some yummy tacos! I like to eat something sweet after savory, so I spoiled myself with a chocolate chip cookie from their bakery. Arrived for dinner on a Saturday night. Not busy at all. Plenty of parking. Found the restaurant easily. If you need wheelchair access, we seen signs for an elevator near the garage area. Otherwise it's all stairs going up to the entrance. We were seated immediately. Our waitress was great. I ordered the Urban Market Steak Salad. To my surprise, the steak was actually tender and easy to cut. It came with a nice Worcestershire sauce on top. Not quit an A-1 sauce taste but almost shy of it! I wonder if that's what they were going for? Hmm. The salad was refreshing and delicious. I'm not a gorgonzola kinda gal but I was able to manage a few of the stinky cheese bites. Enjoyed the candied walnuts for texture. Overall, decent place to grab a bite to eat. I'd try other things on the menu for next time. Oh save room for dessert because we weren't able to. The restaurant has a nice glass case with a few choices of carrot and chocolate cakes, cookies and cupcakes. The restaurant was clean and inviting. Clean bathrooms as well! Enjoy! read more

I ordered an Arizona Grass Fed Burgerwith a lettuce wrap to avoid high carbohydrates and it came in a carb-ridden tortilla!! it also didn't come with a lot of the ingredients pictured eg fingerlings and NO cheese! Is this how restaurants are saving on cost now? Also the Side Grilled Chicken was supposed to have greens as photographed, and it came with just chicken! Again, is this how restaurants are saving on cost by leaving off half of the food that you paid for? Worst Mother's Day Brunch EVER!!! Wow! What terrible brunch today at The Herb Box in central Scottsdale. Let's start with the buffet location. It was outside in the heat (102 degrees today). The salads looked limp and unappetizing, The salmon was way overcooked and hard, with no hint of the promised grapefruit and sugar charred seasoning. The bacon was way undercooked, limp, fatty and greasy. The pancakes had been sitting in the stream tray for who knows how long, and the smoked gouda Mac n' Cheese had zero cheese flavor and was just room temperature. The rosemary buttermilk chicken was, fortunately, not too overdone and had a nice flavor, but it was also just room temperature in the tray. And the very small and sad looking cheese and charcuterie board was picked over, even right at noon. To be fair, the desserts were good. Not great, but good, But several of the desserts needed to be eaten with a spoon, so naturally there were no spoons available. And no dessert plates in sight, although that was eventually fixed. On the bright side, the servers, although inattentive, were friendly and helpful if you went and tracked them down and asked for something. Maybe I was expecting too much for $57 a head. But I bet we would have had a better buffet at Golden Corral. read more

My previous review was for the location up north at DC, now relocated to 70th and Shea. We moved from Scottsdale right around the time this location opened. Back in Scottsdale for a couple of days gave me the chance to have a great visit to their new location. I am very familiar with their new spot as it is less than 5 minutes from where we lived in Scottsdale and was in the same area where our dog groomer was located. You can't see the restaurant from the street, but it is worth finding as the outdoor patio is beautiful as is the interior. For us who like eating at the bar, especially at locales that have a great Happy Hour like the Herb Box does, this bar has only 4 spots to sit. I'm sure the Happy Hour area expands to other tables near the bar, which is important to know. The Herb Box Happy Hour is one of the best in Scottsdale. They have $5 glasses of select wine, $3 beer, and $8 shareable plates. As compared to many restaurants that reduce the size of Happy Hour food items versus the normal dinner menu offerings, the HB offerings seem to be normal size. This is evident in the Brussels Sprouts and the Pear and Gorgonzola flatbread that I had today. Both of these HH offerings were fantastic! I wish the flatbread would have had some more pear on it, but that could be my personal desire. The large plate of Brussells Sprouts is possibly the best I have ever had. It consists of the leaves of the Brussell Sprouts and they appear to be flash-fried t a high temperature in something like sunflower or grapeseed oil. My main dish was the Grapefruit and Sugar Charred Salmon. As a salmon aficionado, this is one of the best and most creative dishes there is. It is perfectly cooked with multiple ingredients that work very well together. If we still lived in Scottsdale, we would LIVE at this restaurant! We went very early on as Saturday to have drinks and stayed for dinner. Think there were two other tables seated when we arrived at 5 pm. By the time we left at 7:15 pm the patio was full and about half the place was full inside. The drinks were solid - a jalapeño mango margarita and a lime basil martini made with less simple syrup fit the bill. The Korean cauliflower on quinoa was very good - not too much gojuchang on the sauce which can overwhelm dishes with its funkiness. Not sure the quinoa really goes that well with it since it is wet and makes the bottom of the cauliflower pieces soggy. The Brussels sprouts app is great. Tasty aioli under the flash fried leaves. It looks like a big plate however the leaves are as light as air so there's not much there! One of us had the avocado love which is three pieces of roasted wheat loaf topped with avocado mash then dressed arugula and more avocado with a few candied jalapeño slices here and there. They said it was awesome. My dish was the steak salad with a nice 5 ounce piece of grilled sirloin that was cooked exactly as requested and quite tender. It had as brown sauce on it that was okay but covered up the flavor of the meat. Better to serve that on the side. The salad was light and fresh with a few pieces of freeze dried corn, some strips of fried beets and parsnips (?) and a light dusting of goat cheese. The dressing needed more oomph however it all tasted good enough. The last dish might have trouble - my better half ordered the chicken sliders. Three small brioche buns with decent size pieces of very dark and crunchy fried chicken. They were topped with red lettuce, tomato slices and an aioli. He said they were good, not great. Chocolate chip cookie was dry and crunchy. The ding dong like chocolate dessert was very good. Not sure we will be back soon as one of us got sick right after dinner and they were the only one that ate that dish. Since we can't be sure we will leave it at that! This time of the year can be tricky in Phoenix with the weather in the 70s quickly dropping to the upper 40s or lower 50s once the sun goes down. So choosing inside or outside seating is important. Knowing tonight was going to get cold quickly, our party of 7, including a 14 month old chose to be inside. But, when we got here we find the inside was really outside as the garage style doors were fully opened. At first it wasn't an issue, but as it got increasingly cold it became very uncomfortable. As I write this it is 58° and dropping. We were finally told by the manager that another guest asked for the doors open (for health reasons) so there was nothing they could do. Guess having them outside instead of inconveniencing every other guest there. We may have been warmer outside as we could have had a heater nearby. Usually Herb Box is nice dining experience- good food, nice atmosphere, great service. But tonight, not so much. We were cold. Our food was cold. Drinks were slow. Servers over worked. Managers not responding. So next time, or if you come here, bring a coat and gloves so you'll stay warm, even if your food doesn't. Wonder what the Maricopa County health department might say about these dining conditions. read more

This is a tough one to rate for me. On the one hand, the fresh and internationally inspired menu sounded super interesting and delicious, but everything left me wanting a bit more, and service was ok, but not great, so overall I'm in the A OK group thinking I may not have ordered correctly. We came as a party of 8 and they quickly got us seated inside. Scanning the menu I saw the crab dip and the pakoras right off and knew I needed to try them, and for lunch I ordered the Serrano shrimp salad. The pakoras had good flavor but were not pakoras. These are supposed to be small fritters and what arrived was a loose plate of crunchy battered kale and corn. Sure it was tasty and provided the fix for something fried, but I ended up sprinkling these crunchy bits on my salad. The crab dip was basic and I didn't find much crab in it. I liked the plantain chips, which looked to be made in house and a nice change from other chips or crackers. I also ended up using this as a dressing for the salad to add more flavor to the salad. Now onto the salad. Reading the description I was expecting something like a fried shrimp ceviche salad, and if I'm being honest, what arrived was actually an open faced sandwich. Two pieces of toasted bread sat on the bottom of the plate. They were smeared with a thin layer of avocado and topped with 5-6 good sized crispy fried shrimp. The shrimp were then covered in a jungle of arugula and a few very thinly sliced Serrano peppers, served with dressing on the side. The description on the menu sounded solid, but the salad lacked texture and was very one note. I am assuming the idea was for the shrimp to add the crunch, but they weren't enough. The dressing wasn't notable or strong enough in flavor to cut through the amount of arugula on the plate, and there just wasn't a whole lot of variety happening here. Colleagues ordered other salads, bowls and sandwiches, all of which looked better than my choice. So maybe I ordered wrong. Overall I would return to try something else. read more

I've been going for quite some time to the new location. A friend and I meet there for lunch periodically and I've been with my husband on many occasions. I've almost always liked the food. It has options for vegetarian, if you need that. Today we noticed the cost of a simple Arnold Palmer was $7.00! My friend asked a manager about it. He said the owner said it's a local place in Tempe they get the Tea from and justify the price. The food prices are already very high for what you get. My husband and I have eaten out lunch and dinner daily for years, no joke. We have never paid anywhere near $7.00 for an Arnold Palmer and it's almost all I drink. I was looking for an event location for an upcoming large group get together and that crazy price will keep me away. My gf and I said before we left, lots of places in Scottsdale to go that don't charge those prices. We will be going to one of those next time. read more

My colleague and I stopped here for lunch today. The casual and simple decor inside has ample seating and lots of space. There is also a patio outside with seating. A small dessert case invites you to the hostess. I asked our server for recommendations which he suggested the chop salad or burger. Went to this spot close by to the place we went for paintball. We changed clothes prior to going. We waited behind a couple when we got there and another couple waited behind us. It took 10 minutes for anyone to greet the first couple and then when it was our turn, the couple behind us walked through the other door and stated to the hostess "we need a seat outside now please. We had reservations 20 minutes ago and we just got here." If someone misses their reservation they should wait but this hostess took them before us and still didn't greet us. They weren't short staffed either cause there were servers walking everywhere and the place was not even packed. Whoever the manager is did not give their staff great organization skills to keep a smooth operating restaurant. When we finally got seated, we waited another 15 min for our waitress to get our drinks. After she got our drink order, we waited another 10 minutes for her to come get our actuaL order and and after giving our order she says "it will be about 45 minutes for food to be brought out" we were shocked as that's what the hostess should have said if the shortage is for the cook. So in order to keep us from eating our own arms, we saw there are pastries and asked for a red velvet and the chocolate peanut butter cheesecake which took them 15 minutes to bring to us. The only reason this got more than 1 star is because the pastries at least tasted great. Not a good spot to go to if you want good service. read more

Unfortunately, this was not a good experience overall; this is due solely to our server, who had a bad day. I can say that I came and don't have to return. The kitchen ran out of popular items; the server had an attitude, the drinks were flat, and the meal was just "ok." My sister, who recommended this place, was apologetic; she felt horrible that her guests from out of town had such a poor experience at a highly recommended and popular eatery. "It must be this location," she exclaimed because I always enjoyed lunch here. This was my experience, and I wasn't happy, Except for their delicious Brussels sprouts!
