Churro toast: phenomenal, sweet, but not too sweet. The berries were a nice touch. The breakfast tacos were probably some of the best I've had in a while! I think they are a MUST GET item! Dinner was a nice quaint vibe. The hostess Akiko was so friendly! Pão de queijo was actually so good and reminded me of authentic Brazilian bread. The nice twist is they give you honey for it and I believe a honey whipped butter also. 4 little muffins for $12 The pork shoulder for 2 is a very generous portion size. They give you 6 corn tortillas with a couple salsas. But it does need something like lime to make the flavor stand out. Upon arriving from a 5 hours trip, we wanted to have a good meal. They serve brunch from 11-3 PM and there's options that span breakfast and lunch. I went for lunch and Mom got breakfast. My blackened salmon with rice was amazing. Cooked to perfection and juicy. Her frittata was light, healthy and flavorful. It was missing some potatoes or a side of bacon. To drink I requested a white Sangria. The bar made one with their house made hibiscus syrup. It was so good! I was in the mood for a chicken Caesar salad and my husband got the salmon. As I was ordering the chicken, the bartender said the salmon was better, but I didn't listen. He was right! Excellent - beautiful unique ambiance, delicious food, and fantastic service. Stayed at the resort so had all our meals on the premises. Had lunch and NYE dinner here and it was delicious! Our server was professional and kind, and the Manager (i think he was the Manager?) came over to check on us and made sure that our experience was wonderful. We live right by the this resort so we walked over with our neighbor for drinks and dinner. Our server was great and he was attentive without hovering. Definitely agree with another review about the cheese bread - had no idea what to expect but wow! Delicious. My corn agnolotti was also delicious. My neighbor was surprised to find pin bones in her branzino and she didn't eat a lot of it. Our table got the churro bread pudding and the creme brulee both of which were tasty. However, I won't be returning and here's why. We came early and ordered off drink menu at the bar. Drinks were generally good and about average for Scottsdale ($16-18). At dinner, my husband ordered a Manhattan and I ordered a dirty martini. Upon receiving the bill, we noticed they used Bulleit Rye which brought the Manhattan to $25 and Hendricks which brought the martini to $20. Neverminding the fact that Hendricks is a poor choice for a dirty martini, we felt scammed because we weren't asked about the spirit or the upcharge ahead of time. Neither cocktail were worth what we paid. It's already expensive to eat and drink in Scottsdale. The bar bill left us with a bad taste and convenient as it is, there are other restaurants within walking distance that don't scam the customers. read more

I recently stayed at the Scottsdale Resort & Spa for a work conference. This restaurant is located within the hotel and enjoyed both meals I had. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating that overlooks the golf course. Got to see a great sunset over the course at dinner. When I first arrived to the hotel we got lunch, the burger and steak sandwich. Both hit the spot and the fries were delicious. The garlic aioli on the steak sandwich was amazing and I should have asked for it on the burger or at least to dip my fries in. My last night in town I had dinner with coworkers. I got the pesto squash pasta which was really good, just wish there was parmesan to sprinkle on top. A coworker got the scallops and pork belly which he really enjoyed, but wish it was a bigger portion. During lunch there was only one other table so the service was great. We were nervous we might be forgotten about being outside on a "colder" day for AX, but we weren't! As for dinner the service was still great just a little slower. read more

I visited La Fogata while on a ResortPass for the spa one Wednesday morning. I was able to get right in as it was very slow. I believe they were closing shortly, but I had a good half an hour to pop in and out. I was able to sit outside and take the beautiful view of the golf course. I had Logan as my server. I didn't really need to look at the menu because I knew I wanted avocado toast with an egg so I ordered that and a nice immunity juice. He also was kind enough to provide me with the Wi-Fi since my phone was spotty in that area so I could get a little bit of work done. The juice was absolutely delicious and I would highly recommend that. The food was delicious and A+ for presentation. It also came out fairly quickly. Since it's a resort, the prices are a little bit higher than usual, but I thought it was worth the pretty penny. We came here early for dinner, about 5:30pm. It was very quiet. There were a few firsts for me: espresso martini and bone marrow. The espresso martini was great, but the finish was a little sweet. I probably would get this again but just to finish off a meal as opposed to enjoying one with the meal. It wasn't too strong for the espresso and it had an overall nice flavor, like the espresso wasn't too bitter or citrusy for me. Bone marrow: omgggggg where has this been all of my life? I've heard of it before, but just wasn't feeling adventurous enough before. Now I wonder how many delicious opportunities I've missed. Don't skip this if you come here, 10/10. It was seasoned well, and the combination of all of the flavors? Yassss. The scallops: one scallop was super salty, but another was seasoned well. Obvi we shared dishes. The corn was sweet and delicious as well as the cauliflower bisque, which I wasn't sure I would like. It was a beautiful background player for the dish. The big boy Mac and cheese had just the right amount of spice, but oh my. It was huge. The pork belly was delicious, the cheese sauce was rich and creamy, we couldn't even eat it all, brought it back to the room to eat later. If you tackle this one, expect to make it less than halfway through it unless you are starving. The noodle shape really held onto a lot of the sauce and it was amazing. We came back later for dessert. The seasonal cobbler was apple. It came with vanilla ice cream. The apples were cooked to a good texture, still firm, not mushy, and not overly seasoned with cinnamon. The tiramisu was okay. Didn't love it, didn't hate it. It would do better with a little more coffee flavor, but the mascarpone was evident. I think it could have been balanced a little better though. I usually get tiramisu when it's offered as a dessert, but I wouldn't get it again here. It wasn't too memorable. read more

Came here on a Friday night with a girlfriend. Service was good although i feel like the server wasn't very sociable. The ambiance was beautiful & the music was loud enough to hear it but not be obnoxious. Now the food.... Was super disappointed In the entrees. The ribeye had barely any sear and didn't even taste seasoned. My friend had the half chicken and it didn't taste seasoned at all. I feel like this place was not authentic to its menu. Drinks were okay. Dirty martini was good. Paloma ... meh. Appetizers were amazing. Ceaser salad. Fav part was the croutons. Tomato bisque soup came with a whole sandwich even though it was listed as a croutons. It was so slow chefs just hanging out and at one point, I wasn't even sure they had chefs on staff. Took forever to get drinks. Drinks came out incorrect, but when notified, they were corrected and brought out the correct drink. After we finally got our drinks, server just disappeared and was non existent and took forever to come take our order. Once our order was in, the food surprisingly didn't take long. I will say the food overall was actually pretty good. Ordered scallops and the meat and potatoes (which is basically a play on beef stroganoff.) after getting our food, server disappeared again and took forever to get our check. La Fogata Kitchen & Bar is the main restaurant at The Scottsdale Resort and Spa. We had dinner on a weeknight in the offseason and we had the restaurant to ourselves. Our server was awesome and the chef even came out to check on us. The food was amazing. Our appetizer, the cheese bread, is a new item on the menu. "Cheese bread" sounds like some crappy appetizer at Applebee's but trust me, this is the best cheese bread you will ever have, served with hot honey and guava butter. The baby romaine salad was delicious. Our main entrees were the filet and elote agnolotti. Both were excellent. We will definitely be coming back. read more

My company held our annual conference at the Scottsdale Resort and Spa this year and the food provided at the lunches on both days was provided by La Fogata if the branded napkins were any indication. Both days were buffet style. The first day had a make your own caesar salad portion, with a fancy-looking caprese salad (which I tried for the first time and was quite pleased with it - the tomatoes were large and perfectly ripe). For the hot options of the meal, there was a thing of steak and potatoes, chicken parmesan, and some chicken that honestly looked like a big vat of kimchi in my opinion. The steak was impossible to cut through and looked like a roast beef puck you'd get out of a TV dinner entree. The potatoes were soft but had minimal flavor. The chicken parmesan was mostly breadcrumbs. The chicken inside was so tiny, it was laughable. Also, why was the chicken more on the pink side?? I asked an older coworker about it and he said it was fine as it was probably just the style of how it was cooked to not have it too dry. The majority of the chicken parm part was breadcrumbs because there was only a small spoonful of marinara sauce and a minuscule dollop of cheese on each thing of chicken. Not appetizing. The second day featured a taco bar. There were both corn and flour tortillas, lettuce, shredded chicken, steak fajitas, rice, and a lot of various toppings. There was also a different kind of salad with (probably canned) mandarin orange slices and some kind of white shredded stuff that looked like coconut but wasn't coconut. I don't know what it was; I should've read the fine print next to the dish more. The "shredded" chicken was either too shredded or not shredded at all, and was also super spicy. I know I don't have the highest spice tolerance, but that chicken had me blowing my nose at the end of the meal. Another thing I will add is on both days, only forks were provided. No spoons, and certainly no knives. I thought that was completely inconvenient. I had to tear through my "shredded" chicken with my fork and mouth looking like a caveman because the pieces that weren't shredded were way too big to swallow in one go. The steak fajitas were okay, not the most flavorful fajitas I've had, but at least the guacamole was blended to smithereens which is how I prefer my guacamole. I'm sure this place has better options or at least better servings when prepared in an actual restaurant setting, but I was not a happy camper after either meal. read more

I have a gluten allergy, so off the bat I am scared to eat at most places. However, when you pay a decent amount for the food- you assume the staff is well trained and your dishes are prepared with care. However, this was not the case. The first night I asked the staff member what could be made gluten free, she had absolutely no idea. So I mentioned that I would just have corn chips and salsa instead of how they usually prepare their nachos. The nachos came out and they had sauces on it. I mentioned again that I was worried this wasn't gluten free, she told me it was. That night I got extremely ill. Probably due to cross contamination or something in the sauce. For breakfast- I told the server I was allergic to gluten and I could not have a bun on my breakfast burger. Burger came out with a bun.... I told them and they stated they would redo it. It then came out so raw it was inedible Moral of the story. I know it's hard to cook for someone with an allergy. But the fact that I told people numerous times I was allergic to something and it still comes out on my plate is very scary. Management handled it well and was kind but I would never eat here again. Went to the La Fogata for thanksgiving for the 3:00 seating. DON'T do a late seating. They said the reservation was for 2 hours. They shut the buffet and carving station down at 4:00. They left the dessert buffet open but it was well picked over by then. 2 thirds gone. I live in McCormick Ranch and had some friends in from out of town. I was embarrassed. The food we had was good except for the Turkey. What they gave me was some ends that was mostly the ends with the skin. Very disappointing. I give it a 1 star at best. La Fogata was such a great experience! First of all, it's beautiful! So aesthetically stunning, an open kitchen concept is always a win in my book. The staff was very welcoming and attentive thought out our visit. The cocktails were good but it was the food that blew us away. We tried the beef carpaccio which came with the tastiest, most fresh tasting potato chips we have ever had! My husband ordered the rib eye that came covered in cooked onions. It was delectable. But it was my dish, the meat and potatoes that stole the show! Wow that was one of the best pasta-esqe dishes we've ever had. Given the high rating here, we were shocked by the TERRIBLE service and quality of food. We ordered the avocado toast and breakfast enchilada, and it was so bad we couldn't finish it. We are pretty easy going about food, and these entrees tasted like they had been driven 45 mins across town from a subpar hospital cafeteria. Excellent restaurant in the hotel and perfect for our anniversary. We started with Breads and Spreads that came with white bean humus, Fresno and strawberry marmalade, mixed olive tapenade. Dairy Goat cheese crumble with grilled noble bread as an appetizer. This was followed by the Steakhouse Wedge Salad that featured iceberg lettuce, bacon, blue cheese, balsamic reduction, heirloom tomatoes with ranch dressing. Both were excellent, prepared as described and filling enough that we split a Seared Tenderloin with warm potato salad, garlic mushrooms, cauliflower and black garlic butter. The steak was cooked perfectly, medium rare tasted great with the right balance of seasoning and the sides tasted fantastic, particularly the warm potato salad. We finished with Crème Brûlée that was probably one of the best we ever shared. Very diverse men from steak, veal, fish, scallops, shrimp options and modest fares such as pizza, to big boy Mac n cheese. Beautiful seating on the patio, it was a slow night and even a bit slower service. But we finally got the octopus and some mole meatballs . Then a wedge salad and the charred bone-in veal chop. My hubby loved the meatballs. The chop was great, perfectly cooked and served in a delicious sauce. The octopus not so much, I know you aren't supposed to over cook octopus or it'll get tough, but this was served almost raw and still cold inside, so it was sent back and taken off the bill, (after we had to remind our server). My experience was outstanding. The staff were so professional and personable. My favorite was Chris (I believe the manager) his customer service was over the top. He went out of his way to make our guest's drink order perfect. Though they didn't have blue cheese olives for their martini in house, Chris took it upon himself to make blue cheese olives from scratch and serve the table.
