Hush Public House is going to be one of your favorite restaurants. It has a warm, inviting atmosphere with dim lighting, candles, beautiful wood tables, and just the right balance of being intimate without feeling formal. It's equally perfect for a date night or a relaxed dinner with friends. Two of us ordered the "Beef Bolognese," and we were both speechless after the first bite. I've had Bolognese at some of the best Italian restaurants, yet this version is in a league of its own. I honestly don't know what Chef Dom Ruggiero does differently, but somehow the sauce has an incredibly special balanced flavor that's impossible to describe until you taste it. It's absolutely sublime. I can honestly say I'll order it every time I come back and recommend it to everyone I know. Our friend ordered the "Crispy Chicken Sandwich" and loved it. The chicken was perfectly breaded, wonderfully crispy on the outside, and incredibly juicy and tender inside. She said it was so good and so were the seasoned fries. My husband chose the "Ibérico Pork Skirt Steak," and every component of the dish worked together brilliantly. The pork was unbelievably tender, and it was served with Japanese sweet potatoes, apples, cashews, sesame seeds, cabbage, and miso. Every ingredient complemented the others beautifully and rested on an outstanding creamy base. It was one of those dishes where each bite makes you tell everyone at the table that they have to taste it. The service was just as impressive as the food--friendly, attentive, and welcoming (from the hostess to the server). Hush Public House has mastered that rare combination of exceptional food, outstanding service, and an atmosphere that's warm and comfortable either at the bar or table. If you haven't been yet, go! Since moving to Scottsdale, I've had several people tell me I need to try Hush Public House. People of all kinds - men, women, wealthy, not so wealthy, foodies and normal folks like me. And I finally did. And it was great. Friend of mine welcomed me to town and suggested we meet at HPH for dinner. It was a weeknight but we had reservations, so there was no wait. I don't know that we would have gotten in otherwise, as it was 7:00pm and packed. Service was great but not obtrusive. We ordered a bottle of wine (I mistakenly thought it was 1/2 price wine night but it turns out I can't read my calendar) but it wasn't too expensive, and was a nice start for a meal with a friend I haven't seen in 30 years. We both ordered the Duck Fried Rice - me because it's what everyone told me I needed to do and he ordered it because he's had it several times and loves it. And I love it too now after my first taste. Of note, the portion size isn't huge. I was honestly hungry later in the evening, but otherwise it was the perfect dish. The restaurant is small, and in a strip mall with a tiny sign that is easy to miss. It's nice inside, and I wasn't crowded but there aren't many tables. A bit expensive for the portion size, but it was fantastic and worth it. Highly recommend. read more

What an absolutely fantastic dining experience on New Years Eve! From the moment we walked in, the vibe at Hush Public House felt like the perfect mix of casual yet special -- it's great for a relaxed date night or celebrating an occasion. For us, it served as both. The cozy space has an open kitchen which makes it fun to watch the chefs in action, when you sit at the bar tops. And when they are grilling up cuts of meat, the aroma in the air is divine! The service was warm and attentive during the meal. The thoughtful menu blends creative New American flavors with quality ingredients, and everything we tried was packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. I appreciate the emphasis on using local ingredients as possible. This meant the oysters that were super good, came from my favorite seafood spot in the Valley-- Chula Seafood. The menu has a range of price points, it can be a lighter meal and lower (not low) price point, or you can go all out and find yourself spending over $100/ person if having drinks, appetizers, mains, and dessert. We did the latter and it was well worth it! Every dish we ordered -- from starters to mains -- was delicious. Highlights included the grilled oysters, crispy pig face, Iberico pork, and braised oxtail in the Italian beef plus the date cake. So that's everything we ordered, lol. The small rotating menu guarantees incredibly fresh ingredients delivered at their best quality. I mean... I just don't get it. Maybe I was destined to be disappointed ordering a fried rice dish as an Asian at an American restaurant? But damn it wasn't even close to be it. The fried rice was so mid with only a little bit of meat. I only ordered it since it was a "signature dish" but there was nothing signature about it. Nothing special or even different than a regular fried rice dish, besides the fact it was mid. Any Chinese restaurant can probably outdo this. AND IT WAS $40! Which is really comical. The other dish was much better though. Forgot the name but beef on a toast. A bit on the saltier side but at least I can see why it's a signature dish. Located in a strip mall, this restaurant doesn't say much from outside except the abundance or parking. Once you walk through the doors you smile and absorb the warm atmosphere, friendly staff greeting you and a simple yet elegant setting. We went on a Tuesday night and scored as they have a three course tasting menu but a la carte sizes. We started with oysters, crispy cauliflower, cantaloup with melon curry and crab hush puppies. Already quite pleased with everything and almost full we continued with main courses of corvina ( my now favorite fish), Italian beef and steak frites. Just an update to say we still love this place. Went again this past weekend and soooo good! We tried an appetizer that I think that was recently added to the menu (grilled peaches). It had this cornbread puree on the bottom of the plate that was a sauce for it (also had burrata too) and OMG that puree was one of the best things we have ever tasted. Everything else was fantastic as always. My husband got his go to which is the oxtail and I had the pasta with the mushrooms. And of course we can't go there and not get the date cake. We had a fabulous dinner here for our first night in Scottsdale. We sat at the bar and watched the chefs preparing the meals- a dinner and show in one! Our server was prompt and friendly. For drinks he recommended the Little Miss BBQ Old Fashioned and the Drama in the Desert cocktail. We had one of each. They were well balanced and smooth. For an appetizer we shared the spaghetti squash. It doesn't sound exciting but my husband declared it the best squash he has ever had. Decided to celebrate my birthday dinner here! I've heard of hush through the grapevine occasionally but not often. Needless to say I was excited to try it. First and foremost, it's tucked away and almost hidden with just the words "Hush" displayed to indicate where it is. It's a very dark, moody but lively restaurant. One side is the bar the other side more restaurant style. Our server, sarina or zarina, was lovely and walked through the menu with us. The menu seemed quite creative. We started with the hush puppies, whipped eggplant and the mussels. One thing to note is that the mussel took and exorbitant amount of time to come out. Probably at least half an hour, but I don't know if that's typical or not. So while we waited, we enjoyed the crab hush puppies and the whipped eggplant. The hush puppies have an amazing crunchy exterior and fluffy, hot center. They have a good flavor, not fishy at all, and have a wonderful remoulade to pair with. The whipped eggplant was more reminiscent of a hummus, very tahini forward. The lamb neck was delicious and tender with a touch of fattiness. This dish is very middle eastern inspired and rich! When we finally got the mussels, they were fine. Very curry, tikka masala inspired. I appreciated it but it's not the best rendition I've had. The mussels themselves were HUGE, which was nice. Loved the garbanzo beans in there too. We split the Sonoran pasta which was like a bed stroganoff with a twist. The addition of croutons and pickles was odd for sure, but not awful. The pasta was cooked perfectly and retained its integrity which I love. Very creamy delicious sauce. Unfortunately, by the time we were finished with the entree we had to go so I can't attest to any birthday desserts or specials they do. All in all it's a good place. Very neighborhood charm, kind of well kept secret place. Our bill was 150$ for the 3 of us, including one drink each. Fairly priced I'd say. I would go back to explore the menu more. They have a great bar area that I would like to sit at. This place is good for families and even a date night for sure. Hush was an absolute delight! Great vibe, classy with bar seats. Friendly ambiance and service. The chicken liver mousse was rich and decadent, the sour cherries were good. Personally I preferred them on the side but still a nice touch. And that bread? Absolutely snitched to perfection. The endive salad was a fresh surprise--loved every bite, minus the sliced fruit, but the goat cheese was a fantastic touch that tied it all together. The charred octopus looked so good but we were full before we could enjoy it. Bummer! Guests were raving about it though. ( This is the fourth of five reviews I've prepared for describing some of the food I ate while I was out in Phoenix, Arizona. ) My second-to-last review of my Phoenix food trip took me to a place that I'd heard about from both YouTube and my co-workers. I wanted to splurge a little bit on a fantastic meal before I went back home, so I asked my co-workers for more information to see what they recommended -- and did they deliver! One recommendation in particular stood out because I've heard of it before. That place is Hush Public House! Located on North Scottsdale Road across from the Scottsdale Airport, I actually heard about Hush from local culinary bad boy Guy Fieri, who featured it and its Marine veteran chef, Dom Ruggiero, on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. I'd completely forgotten about it until my co-worker mentioned it as one of his favorite places in town -- and not knowing if and when I'd return to Phoenix, of course that meant driving all the way out to Scottsdale to check the place out after running around Tempe Town Lake all afternoon! When I arrived, I was greeted by Mike the bartender, who immediately helped me feel at home as I looked through the menu. The food here at Hush is unlike anything I'd seen back home in Vegas -- full of unique offerings and culinary spins on classic dishes, I spent fifteen minutes or so deciding what I wanted to eat! Thank goodness Mike was there to guide me through the menu and recommend some of his personal favorite dishes! I ended up getting a little bit of everything from the menu -- and I'm glad I did. Their offerings are one of a kind and unlike anything I'd ever tasted. From the indulgent yet surprisingly light eggplant with lamb neck, to the flavorful and mysterious lion's mane au poivre, the dishes I had were nothing short of a culinary tour de force. Even the dessert I ended up getting was outstanding -- the date cake with Bourbon caramel and vanilla ice cream is basically their take on the classically British sticky toffee pudding, one of my favorite desserts and one that's surprisingly hard to find in Las Vegas. Needless to say, I polished my plate; special thanks to Mike for his recommendations and making my experience here so memorable! Don't let its location in the middle of an unassuming strip mall fool you -- Hush is easily one of the best dining experiences Phoenix and Scottsdale has to offer. I can easily see this place being extremely popular among the choosy crowd here in Las Vegas should Dom ever decide to expand out here! Even now I'm still dreaming of and drooling over their lion's mane au poivre and date cake -- that's how memorable this place was to me. Hush Public House was my favorite meal of the weekend. The food is definitely "heavier" than other types of cuisine, but everything was so, so delicious. My friends and I ordered the following (with my favorites from the top to the bottom even though I enjoyed all of them): - Rigatoni with peas and bacon - Duck fried rice - Whipped eggplant with lamb neck - Fried cauliflower - Fried brusssel sprouts I ordered a glass of vinho verde, and we also had the date cake for dessert. Hands down, Hush has the most creative vegetable dishes in the Valley. After having the cauliflower here a few years ago, we were inspired to eat more cauliflower at home. At our most recent visit, we came for the lion's mane au poivre (what?!?!!!!!!) but the green beans absolutely and unequivocally stole the show. Everything is consistently outstanding. The aforementioned mushroom dish? Killer. Unlike anything else you've had, guaranteed. There was a new lamb-filled pasta dish on the menu. Outrageous. And yet, the green beans are what I'm still thinking about a week later. We generally sit at the bar and love the staff interactions. If it's slow, sometimes one of the chefs will come over and explain the dishes themselves. Always fun. The glamour shot of an elementary-aged Dom in the ladies bathroom is a hilarious touch. Love the space, love the drinks, always love the food. And seriously, order the vegetables. read more

I googled best restaurants around me and Hush popped up! I quickly made a reservation and upon arrival I was greeted by a friendly hostess. The atmosphere was dim, yet welcoming. My server gave great recommendations for me who does not eat pork and my guest who is pescatarian. I started with a spicy infused margarita, cauliflower and ended with the fried rice. This was my 2nd visit to Hush, and this time I had friends from out of town join me. Although, all of the food was at least good, I was very disappointed with the experience. The best dish we had was an appetizer, pork belly confit with saffron yogurt & dill. It was delicious, complicated, and adventurous. All of the other dishes were "meh". The duck fried rice was tasty, but the duck was oversalted. The chicken liver mousse with drunken cherries would have been much better without all of the syrupy cherries which overwhelmed the dish. Our bread was over toasted as well. The grilled oysters were good but had too much cheese which interfered with the oyster taste. The rabbit risotto was good, but I could barely find any meat, there should have been a cutlet or something to make this dish substantial. The cocktails were pretty but not as good as my last visit. The service was excellent. The atmosphere is dark and cozy, but there is a buzz of activity from the open kitchen. I still would recommend. I just think I had an off night. This is our 2nd visit to Hush and for the 2nd time, we were not disappointed. This place is a diamond in the rough. It may be in a strip mall but the menu and the staff are nothing but fine dining. The kitchen is up front in the bar area which gives any seat at the bar dinner and a show. The first time we came we ordered the oysters, crab hush puppies and the pork chop(pork chop no longer on the menu). Everything was meticulously crafted and delicious. Tonight we ordered the cauliflower, crispy skin salmon and the rigatoni. Everything was delicious but the rigatoni was spectacular! We also ordered the date cake for dessert both times because it is absolutely amazing. The cocktail's are also really delicious. We really like the Little Miss BBQ Old Fashioned! A friend of mine suggested we go here so we couldn't say no. The place doesn't look like much from the outside and it's in a strip mall as well. We made reservations just in case they were busy on the weekend. We arrived on time and waited just a few minutes before they sat us down. The place looked really nice inside, nice ambience. You can sit at the bar if you want to see the cooks cooking. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara or Paso Robles (sorry forgot which area). The wine was cold so they must keep their wine in fridges that are pretty cold temperature wise. The taste wasn't there being that it was too cold, so we let it rest for awhile to come close to room temperature. Once we did that, the wine was perfect, great flavor and tannins. We ordered some appetizers Cauliflower and the Hush puppies. The cauliflower was made nice and crispy with some garlic cheesy flavor. Top five I've ever had. The hush puppies were cooked good and was pretty good. It couldn't have used some more crab inside to help get that crab flavor. The dipping sauce was just okay. For our entrees, we ordered the Italian beef and the duck fried rice. The Italian beef was more like an open beef sandwhich with veggies, and a beef broth. The beef was tender and cooked perfect along with the veggies, the broth was a little salty, but overall, a great dish. The duck fried rice was cooked great, great flavor, rice was crispy, the duck was tender and didn't have the gamey flavor, and the dish was a good portion size. If you are looking for a good place to eat and drink, I suggest trying this place out. read more
