We were so excited to try this restaurant and when I looked online it said they closed at 3pm. The sign out front also said 3pm so imagine our surprise when we were greeted that they closed at 2pm. I seriously thought we showed up on a Thursday and not a Friday. We offered to leave and they were very surprised but wanted us to know that they expected our order asap. We ordered our food quickly as requested and it came out timely. The plates looked amazing and we were excited to try. I had the "Horned Nest of goodness" with a waffle. (I presumed it was their version of chicken and waffles, boy was I wrong). The French fries were tasty but the chicken strips tasted like Purdue chicken strips from the freezer and the waffle was definitely lacking. My husband had the "Barn Owl biscuits and gravy" he was not at all impressed. The sliced sausage on top was also a tad weird. There were a few people still actively in a conversation and stayed well past us. But we definitely do not understand the hype. The cafe felt very thrown together with mismatching owls hung from the wall. The dining tables while a nice touch looked out of date and not in a vintagey way. I was excited to check out this new breakfast spot. It was a Sunday morning so it was busy. Luckily they have a reservation texting system. The waiter told us it would be about 30 minutes but it was more like 45 minutes until we were finally seated. It wasn't a big deal because we went to Target and the Dollar Store while waiting. Finally we got the text that our table is ready. After we are seated we had to wait about 10 minutes before the waitress finally came over. She was very apologetic and acknowledged that they were slammed because two servers had called out so it was even more busy for them. We understood and proceed to order. The decor is very cute with an owl theme -- my only ick moment was wondering how do they clean and dust all of that knick-knackery, I guess it is new enough at this moment but I can't imagine having to dust all of those owls, LOL. The menu only shows that they have a full bar in very small section of the menu so I immediately inquired if they had a bloody mary and yes indeed they did! We ordered these poste haste as well as the remainder of our breakfast, the "Big Fat French Toast", "Sweet Owl Cakes (basically pancakes), side of potatoes and a side of vegan bacon, plus (thank god) 100% maple syrup. My mom and I were splitting this breakfast. The bloodies arrived and they were average -- even though we ordered spicy they were not so we added pepper, Tapiato and some salt which improved the taste slightly. Thankfully the food didn't take too long to come out, it seemed quicker than when we waited for the server in the beginning so that was good. Unfortunately that was the extent of the good review. The pancakes were tasteless -- it really only tasted like the syrup -- I still ate them because I was hungry. They were a 4/10 on the pancake scale. The bread on the french toast was incredibly hard, stale and wasn't fully cooked all the way through -- pieces of it were practically inedible. I looked back at the menu and it was supposed to be brioche bread but it was very dark -- I have never seen brioche that dark before. It was not good. The french toast also came with bacon that was burnt and very very greasy -- I don't eat bacon but my mom tried it and gave me the review. The side potatoes were average and the vegan bacon was basically tempeh that was barely cooked. There were no spices on it or anything -- when I make vegan bacon I sauté it in soy sauce and other spices -- this was basically nearly raw tempeh -- yuk. I didn't get that gooey yolk running over the prosciutto that I'd expect in a Benedict dish. We came to visit on Sunday at about 8:15 am and we were a party of 4. We were sat right away. It was generally empty maybe about 4 other tables were occupied. Max was our server and he was very attentive. Two of us tried the fried egg breast sandwich, one the eggs Benedict, and an omelette. The fried egg sandwiches were a hit, as well as the eggs Benedict. The omelette was just okay. The coffee was a little weak. The decor I get it's called "The Toasted Owl" but its overkill in my opinion on the owl decor. Our server came to take our order, didn't write it down, came back 2 minutes later and asked my friend what kind of toast. Breakfast came out for my friend, eggs were overcooked, ordered French toast to share for the table and they brought out fake syrup, asked for maple syrup, they did have that and brought it out for an uncharted. Server asked how everything was and I asked were are my eggs Benedict, she forgot to order them, then asked what kind of meat did i want.It took 20-30 minutes to get them, the hollandaise was terrible and the ham was cubed. Growing pains are normal. Yesterday was day 1! Excited to have the chance to check out a new location since the OG Flag location is amazing. Timing was slow, again... day 1. The servers were amazingly kind and apologetic. I had the veg tamales. Temperature was good, flavors were spot on. There were 4 of us and the food came out at various times but nothing crazy. Our table also had a bloody and michelada, both were good. (The bloody was strong! Aka good.) I love the grandma's house weird decor and owls. Super fun, just like the original. I was super stoked for this place to open since I love breakfast places and they're a small business. I waited a few weeks after they opened to make sure they were settled before visiting. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by a few things. Firstly, my friend and I's service wasn't too great. We went around 8 in the morning and there was barely any people, I'd say about 7-8 tables tops and half already had their food or had ordered. I think there were 3 servers working, 2 girls and a guy. I don't know our servers name because she didn't introduce herself. Anyway, when we sat down we were greeted but it was more of a "can I get you anything to drink" and not a formal greeting. I'm speaking from someone who works at a breakfast places, first impressions matter! Unfortunately, we weren't checked up on as much as the other tables she served, our orders got thrown away (and we had waited 20 minutes before finding this out), and my pancake had been forgotten in the second order until I brought it up halfway through breakfast. I don't want to come down on this server, I don't know her personal life, but knowing it wasn't busy and seeing others get serviced was disheartening. As for the environment, I think the decor was amazing and I'm a huge fan of being able to buy everything I see. It was immersive to their theme. One thing I also wasn't a fan of was their selection of sauces, or more, lack of. I do typically attend higher end diners, so I'm not gonna rag on their selections too long. It would be nice to see some thought put into their sauces instead of their only spicy one being cholula ranch, cholula or tobasco. I can have that at home. What I mean is, I come to these small businesses to be wowed by their creativity and effort, and I'm not wowed by their sauces. As for the food, the best part of this place. I ordered their vegetarian tamales and they are to DIE for. Packed with veggies, the maza outside was amazing and my poached eggs were lovely. Only note, the beans were too hard and not seasoned enough. That can be adjusted, I'm sure. The pancake I got (huge, as you can see) was delicious! I love when pancakes are so good they don't need syrup. Though, that brings me to another issue. I am an avid hater of corn-syrup syrup, and it was apparent from my friend's meal and reaction that's what we were served. He said it was bland and generic, better unused than used. That's saddening, since pancakes are my favorite thing to try at diners. Hopefully this gets upgraded in the future. Their limitless black coffee was pretty generic too and watery. I'm sure this quality can be upgraded. Overall, it was not the best first impression of the place, but the food was good enough I'd give them a second chance for it. Ever since the Oink Cafe closed, I have been intrigued and interested in what would be opening in the space. When I heard that the Toasted Owl Cafe would be coming, I have been excited as I have heard good things about the Toasted Owl Cafes about their two Flagstaff locations and their Camelback location. As someone who lives near their Tatum and Cactus location, I can see myself as a regular in the future. The experience was good even though there are a few things that I'm sure that the staff are working on improving as today was literally their first day open. I went with my father and my sister for brunch today, and we were impressed by the ambiance and the decorations. There was no wait on their first day even though the place was quite busy. There are no reservations as they only accept customers on a first come, first serve basis. My father ordered a coffee and the Egg Breakfast consisting of 2 strips of bacon (or sausage), 2 scrambled eggs (or eggs any style), breakfast potatoes, and toast. My sister and I both ordered an order of Build-a-Breakfast Tacos which each included four corn tortillas with 2 fillings of our choice, scrambled eggs, cheddar, breakfast potatoes, and homemade salsa side. I ordered corned beef as both of my fillings while my sister chose no cheddar and instead three fillings of her choice. I really enjoyed my meal and was delighted when I learned that the salsa wasn't too hot. My father noted that his eggs were not warm though that was probably because they held all dishes so that they could come out together. There was also quite a wait for the meals. At the same point, this was their first day, so I could only imagine this improving over the next so many days. My sister was also charged for an extra side, but that was resolved when noting it to our server. The Toasted Owl has been around since 2013. Again, while there are things that could have been improved, I still enjoyed my experience and would recommend to anyone to give them a try. Monday, 8/10 - the only good thing to say about my experience is the waiter, Maximus. Kind, attentive. I wanted lunch for breakfast - My pastrami sandwich tasted like a shoe. UGH! Two very thin slices of pastrami that looked and tasted like they had be heated again and again, no sauce and even less sour kraut. I took two bites, asked Maximus for a to go box, tipped him well because it is not his fault, and left. I have been to the other Phoenix toasted owl location a couple times but hadn't been in a while and wanted to check out the PV location! First off, great spot. Right near target so perfect if you have to do post brunch shopping haha. The entrance confused us a little bit but we figured it out, there was plenty of parking too. Ambiance is absolutely adorable here, you can buy the vintage decor and stuff they have! And service is speedy! They have a good variety on their menu and a dedicated vegan portion. My husband and I started off with coffee and a cinnamon roll. I got my coffee iced, I do wish they had simple syrup or something but the flavored creamer was fine! The cinnamon roll was ok, the outer edges were kinda hard and not particularly warm and gooey. It was fine, just nothing special. Other visits I've had the avocado toast so this time I got the chilaquiles with avocado instead of meat and eggs. They do a vegan version too but I don't really like vegan meat/eggs typically. They were yummy but could've used a bit more cheese or a side of beans or something! My husband got bacon, eggs, potatoes, and toast. He doesn't really like that style of potatoes but I do so he shared with me! Our son tried a little bit or everything and seemed to like it! He was very excited about the owl decor as well haha. My family and i came here over the weekend for breakfast. We purposely showed up early as we know it can get very busy! We were seated right away and greeted at our table in a timely manner but unfortunately our overall experience was not great. They were clearly very short staffed and from what I could tell only had 2 servers for the whole restaurant, one food runner and one hostess. So, while I give them grace, it unfortunately did hinder our experience. We order iced coffee and iced tea, neither were refilled or even offered to be refilled the entire time - despite stating on their menu that both these items are "endless". We never received the waters we asked for, I had to physically get out of my seat to find our server ask for condiments and to follow up on a missing item. Overall, we felt neglected. I understand they are busy, but they need to work as a team to take care of their guest. Additionally, the server who was serving the tables around us was very rude to her guests. I felt bad for her tables. it will be a while before we return which is too bad because the food is very good. read more

Very impressed with this new location! I loved the one in Flag, and was so thrilled to see that they've opened one right down the street from my house! Not only is the ambiance and decor 10/10, service is great, food is delicious and plates are big! Absolutely TERRIBLE that it was almost laughable. The worst dining experience we've had in a LONG time and we eat out every weekend. Got sat right away and server took our drink order. A different server was yelling at another server about taking her table in front of everyone behind the bar. My husband was given the wrong beer but no big deal, they also didn't have a proper glass for my mimosa- also no big deal They don't offer kids cheeseburgers even though they offer regular cheeseburgers, which is already pretty stupid, so we decided to order our 3 year old a plain cheeseburger either way which would have been double the price than a kids meal. He is a typical picky toddler so that's what we had to do. I also ordered a burger and my husband ordered breakfast Server comes back a couple of minutes later and says they ran out of burgers... what restaurant runs out of burgers at 12pm on a Sunday??!? We should've paid for our drinks and left, but we sadly didn't. We ordered my son a grilled cheese which we knew he wouldn't eat and I ordered a BLT as my second option. As expected, my son wouldn't touch his grilled cheese and my BLT was so pathetic. 3 small pieces of bacon. The onion rings were also soggy, SLIMY and disgusting. Of course server never checked on us until we asked for a box for the untouched grilled cheese and the check to get the hell out of there. Guests sitting next to us were missing items and the server never checked on them either apparently The previous restaurant at this location was Oink cafe, which also wasn't the best restaurant but the food quality was FAR more superior. We were thinking about trying this place out vs going somewhere else and I SO wish we went anywhere else. $80 down the drain for gross food is a hard pill to swallow! AND we also stopped and got my son a happy meal since this place can't keep burgers in stock at lunch time like a normal restaurant and he was hungry. How does this even happen on a weekend?? This restaurant is not going to last here just like Oink cafe didn't, and I say Good Riddance!!! Sooner the better actually, so we can get a quality restaurant in that space! The restaurant was only half full and they told us a 10-15 min wait. After 20 min we ended up just leaving after getting ignored. There used to be this other animal themed Breakfast spot here called Oink and it was far superior in every single way. This was some of the worst breakfast I've ever had, the potatoes tasted like Pennie's, my scramble was cold and my michelada was bland. A child could've produced better food in the kitchen compared to whoever is back there doing it now. Oh and btw Service is awful! So extremely slow, it took several minutes before we were even seen. Don't know if the heat is working but AC going full blast when it's 60 degrees outside. Ordered the simple 2 egg breakfast with sausage , breakfast potatoes and toast. Took way too long for order to come out. Eggs were luckwarm. Breakfast potatoes were large and some hard to cut with a fork. The potatoes filled half the plate. Way too many. I prefer hash browns which they don't offer. Toast came with pats of butter you need to spread yourself. Problem was they were still cold and hard and if you wait for them to soften , the food gets cold. All in all not a great experience. read more

I will say our food also came out lukewarm. The decor & the option to purchase, I think is a creative source of revenue. Love the tables , too. First time and last time! Thought I'd try a new restaurant and was not impressed by the rating and reviews, but tried it anyway. Ordered an omelette. So many potatoes on the plate with a very small omelette, a tasty biscuit with a smear of fig jam across the skimpy prosciutto and brie "filled" omelette. Barely any jam so I asked if I could have a little more jam. Got a dollop in those tiny condiment to go container, enough to cover the biscuit. Had to wave down the waitress to receive my bill after she passed me several times without a look. Was surprised to see a $3.00 extra charge for the tablespoon of fig jam! I asked her about it, and she stated that she had to charge for the extra, put three dollars!!! not a good first impression and will never return. read more

My daughter and I visited this morning and had a great experience with the service overall. Hailey was working incredibly hard and was one of the best servers we've had. We also noticed the hostess jumping in to help wherever needed, and Michael was constantly moving around assisting both staff and customers. That level of teamwork really stood out. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by an interaction with Amy, the manager like other reviews have mentioned . Right in front of us, she spoke to a server in a belittling way, which was uncomfortable to witness and completely changed the atmosphere. This isn't the first time we've noticed this kind of behavior at this location, and it's disappointing to see. Good management sets the tone for the entire team. I hope the restaurant takes this seriously and ensures their staff are treated with the respect they deserve. read more
