Mushroom Steak is absolutely amazing. Fried mushrooms are great. Not the cheapest place in town, but it's worth the price.

After a very bad experience Wednesday night (12/21/16), I called to talk to a manager. After a very polite conversation in which I felt like a valued customer, the manager was nice enough to make it right and offer a meal on Hero House. I was very happy by this resolution and agreed, thanking her. When I got there, the woman at the pull up window got my food and told me "do not come back". Taken aback I left the window (I did not take the food). I went into the restaurant where the owner Mike told me to leave or he would call the police! I am not kidding. My wife then called to get an explanation of this behavior. He hung up on her. She called back and he told her "do not F'n (he used the f word) call back or I will call the police for harassment." And then hung up again. I have been going to Hero House for over a decade. I hope anyone reading this will reconsider giving their business and money to such a disrespectful person. The subs here are absolutely delicious. Hero house is a smaller sub restaurant that sells some of the best subs in Wooster. Once of their best subs is the cheesesteak. The employees here are nice also I've never had any problems here. It is a must try if you are in wooster! read more

Lifetime Wayne county resident and this place has always been a staple. We don't go often but I can say the service has went to hell Called in an order to pick up at the drive up window and was treated rather rudely over the phone we were told that it would be at least 40 minuets to get an order. Wait a second, it was 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon 20 minuets I could see but not 40. Canceled the order, because t the decided to swing by walk in and place the same order just to see how long it took. 1o minuets after placing the order we were on our way out the door. I questioned them on it why 40 minuets for a phone on but 10 if I walk in the door.? Their reply. "That's just the way it is" Service like that I don't see me going back anytime soon read more

Phoned in to place order for first time in three years (see previous review), put on hold, hung up after waiting for twelve minutes. Called back and ordered two six inch cold subs, was told it would be thirty-five minutes. Arrived to the pickup window after thirty-five minutes and was told my order wasn't ready. It actually was ready and my cold subs were warm from the heat lamp! They should hold cold subs in a cooler or at least keep them away from the heat lamp. read more

Was my first time in and they made me feel like a regular. Service was awesome, fast, and priced right. Ordered the regular Cheesesteak and it was just what I needed. Their cheese steaks are the best around. I had the chicken cheese deluxe...YUM! I drove 45 minutes to have this food and I am never disappointed with the taste.. Their prices have gotten a bit out of hand in the last couple of years....this last time that we went (2 adults & 2 teenage boys) our bill was over $60...yes for subs... The decor is dated and the place is in desperate need of a remodel... maybe that is why the prices have went up. There's no real good area to park but if you come after normal banking hours you can park across the street in the bank's parking lot. read more

Okay they definitely don't deserve 5 stars. I think Wooster is just lacking in amazing restaurants. I was expecting this place to be as good as the Pot Belly Pig in Madison WI. It wasn't. My family has been coming here since I was little, the food is addicting and the decor hasn't changed a bit. Amazing hot subs! I think the most popular one is the cheesesteak sub and fried mushrooms are a "must". Their pizza subs are really popular as well. If anyone from out of town comes they demand Hero House...its that good. We usually call in the order and then pick it up and take it home... They are really busy over lunch and dinner on weekends as well. The service can be a bit rude because they are in a hurry and they may make you feel like a complete idiot when you order over the phone... but its worth it. read more

I am an out of town-er, so I am missing those biased Wooster tastebuds. This place has a decent sub. It isn't top of the class (no boar's head meat here, folks), but there is a place for this food. It is the sort of food you want on a Friday night after you have mowed the lawn and had a beer already. It is the sort of food you eat when you have ordered too much pizza but don't have a strong desire to eat healthy. The decor is dreadful, as others noted. It is also the sort of place where, if I need to use the restroom, I will hold it (i.e. cleanliness is not a priority). I love their sandwiches but after my experience today I will never go back. First off I looked on line at the menu and called from work to order to pick up after work. The woman that answered the phone was so rude I couldn't believe she had a job when I ordered the first I gave her 2 items I didn't want on it then I wanted to add something she rudely said "those are already on it". Second sandwich I ordered exactly said what was on the menu and she said "I don't even know what that is" I said it was on the menu on line she promptly said we don't have a menu on line. Now weather or not they do I did double check to see if I accidentally was looking on the wrong website although if that were the case where did I get the phone number she had no right talking to me like I'm an idiot. This is the worst customer service I have had there. There are few places that I HAVE to visit whenever I'm back in my hometown of Wooster, but this is usually one of them. Their hot subs are easily some of the best I've had, and they have a great "buy 2 get 1 free" special. I usually call ahead and swing by the drive thru to pick it up for my family, always ready in 20 minutes. It's your typical hole in the wall local hot spot which is half of what makes it great. Definitely not worth going to Subway or any other sub place if you can make it to the Hero House. Had the 15" cheese steak deluxe - oh my! Wow. Everything melts right into the bread & it was fantastic. Added some of the sweet tea to drink, & I was good to go. My husband works in the area and has been talking about this place for a while. He was finally able to take me! I'll start by saying the food is AWESOME. Messy, but Awesome. I will be going back to try other menu items. The not so great... The inside could use some updating and appeared dirty. They are super busy, because their food is so great, but it was frustrating to have been waiting at the counter for so long. We were waiting to place our order, but watched them answer the phone (5 mins after we were still standing there) and take 2 phone orders, before finally coming to take our order at the counter. Our order should have gone in before the phone orders, but they didnt do that. So... we ended up waiting almost 45 minutes for our order. That was really frustrating. I have harbored my hunger here since I was a kid. However, the past ten years or so when I try to revisit and rekindle the tastes of prior years, I have been overly-underwhelmed. I have even tried different subs in order to evaluate various sandwiches - all to no avail. I stopped there on a friend's recommendation. He had told me how good the steak sandwiches were. I was amazed how delicious the steak sandwiches were. The steak was so tender and lean l almost didn't have to chew it, it just broke into pieces in my mouth. They have an excellent seasoning on the thinly sliced rib-eye steak that is piled 2 inches high. This place is worth coming out of your way if you want a fantastic sub sandwich. They have a small selection of the best heros in the county. Even though the menu is small they know how to do a good sub. They have what amounts to a cult following so sometimes they have to shut down early bc they've run out of bread! To be sure you get your sub call ahead and order. read more

They don't need your business. I attempted to call in an order about 30 minutes ago. Rang quite a few times before answered, so they were busy. Person who answered was very abrupt and curt. I felt as though I was taking too much of her time. After I was told it would be 35 minutes, I decided not to place the order. All she said was OK and hung up. I've never been treated so rudely by a local Wooster business owner in all my life.Tonight I ordered one 6" philly cheese steak sub and then requested another philly cheese steak, but asked that they just put the meat and cheese on a bed of lettuce to eat like a salad. I've ordered it this way several times before. When we got home, my "salad" was void of any sort of lettuce. I got the 2 slices of lettuce that would have gone on a sandwich, that's it. I called in to ask about it and was yelled at- I explained how I ordered, and she yelled "We don't do that, it's a pain to do it that way and I ain't doing that." I was perplexed because they do serve salads.. so why is it so hard to put salad in a container and top it with the philly cheese steak like I have ordered many times before? She continued to yell at me saying next time just order the sandwich and pick it out of the bun because she "ain't doing that". Also- at pick up she asked if we wanted silverware- we said yes, and guess what- no silverware either. I'll add the amount of meat that used to come on the philly steak sandwich has been greatly reduced from what it used to be. This isn't how you treat your customers. Never once was there an apology or sorry there was mis communication- I was just berated over the phone. I can't believe you treat people this way and stay in business. read more

The rating based on food and food alone. If you're looking for a well decorated, eat-in restaurant, this isn't the place. If you're looking for a great cheesesteak with no frills, you've found it. When I first moved to the Cleveland area from Wooster, my wife(girlfriend at the time) took me to a Mr. Hero telling me they had the greatest cheesesteaks. No stars today for service or food. the hero house got our take out order wrong twice.we made three trips from Orrville to Wooster attempting to get edible subs. The owner was very rude to us on the phone and in person, she even hung up on my daughter when we called the second time to report that the order was still wrong. My daughter was not at all rude or disrespectful to the owner. We will never spend another red cent at the hero house. we will also discourage others from wasting money there, since the owner isn't concerned with customer service or repeat buisness. While the food at Hero House is good, the customer service is, and has always been, awful. I have had the door locked in my face 15 minutes before closing time, just so they did not have to service me, I have been rushed by Impatient employees who would rather be doing anything else but waiting on me, and today, when I called in an order, I was cut off before I could get my entire order placed. I was in the middle of ordering a couple of more items, and the phone went dead. When I complained about not being able to place my entire order when I picked up my food at the drive thru window, the guy working the window laughed and said, "Well we have been in business since 1975, so we must be doing something right!" Then, he told me that the customer service could not improve because the employees were set in their ways. He then turned and with a sarcastic laugh, told another employee that I was complaining about the customer service. I can only imagine the rolling of the eyes that took place at that point, as the employee was not visible to me. Not once was an apology issued for the terrible customer service or the fact that I could not place my full order. Instead, my concerns were met with sarcasm and unapologetic laughter, which seems to be the accepted culture at this restaurant. The Hero House could be a gold mine. I am a business owner and if I treated my clients the way that the Hero House treats its customers, I would be out of business. While I generally do not order from Hero House because of the horrible service, I wanted a sandwich today. I just wish that I would have ordered it from a different restaurant. While the food is good, it is not worth the hassle most of the time. I don't care what the restaurant looks like, since I always go through the drive thru. But, to do that, I have to deal with the employees. It is rare that I get a smile or someone who wants to assist me. Instead, I get sarcastic, impatient employees. I am not sure why the owner does not value customers any more than he does. Today I ordered the cheesesteak sandwich. For years, I ordered the chicken sandwich, which I really enjoy. Sorry hero house lovers, but i do not think this place is as great as you all are giving it credit for. Sandwiches are a sloppy mess, nothing to brag about in taste as far as i have experienced. Portions on fries the last few times i decided to give the place a chance, (hoping it would be better) keep getting smaller.
