Unbelievable.....My husband was eating a meatball sub from The Hero House tonight and bit into a jagged piece of glass or hard plastic. I understand that mistakes can be made, however the unbelieveable part came from when I reported it. I was told to bring in this substance...so at 9:00 p.m. I go to Hero House and get into a discussion as to whether it is glass or hard plastic. When I tried to explain (politely) that it really didn't matter what this foreign substance was, it was not to be in my Husband's sandwich...the owner responded...well, "that is your word against ours." When I asked him to repeat that (because I couldn't believe those word were actually said)...and then he repeated it....Because apparently I sit at home on Friday nights and try to figure our how to get $10.00 back from Hero House....Then I had to actually ask for a refund. Love Hero House. The cheesesteak sub is amazing! Most people who aren't from Wooster would probably overlook this place because it does not look like the most attractive place to eat from the outside, but it's definitely one of the best places to eat in Wooster. read more

I'm so disappointed in Hero House. I grew up in Wooster and every time I come back to visit I try to eat here. My teenagers look forward to it as well. Today we went in and placed a to go order of 4 subs, an order of fries and an order of onion rings. 10 minutes later, 2 other couples walked in. Both couples received their subs and fries and/or onion rings before us. Finally after 20 minutes we received our food. The kitchen staff was complaining the entire time they were making the food. We drove to the local park and got our food out. 2 of the subs were soggy from so much sauce or dressing. One of the subs had stale bread. And the cup of fries was only filled 3/4 of the way and weren't completely cooked. We ate the food that was edible. Then we returned to let them know about the other food. She was rude, argued with us and made excuses for every complaint we had. She asked what we wanted and we said either a gift card or money back. She set $7 down on the counter turned around and said "and don't come back". Don't worry we won't! read more

Placed an order tonight for pick up - First of all, the lady on the phone was EXTREMELY RUDE. She told me how long before my order would be ready and then hung up on me before I could get a total. Then when we got back with the order two of the sandwiches were wrong and we were charged extra for something we didn't even get extra of! I just tried calling to let them know about the wrong sandwiches and being charged for extra and got a recording... apparently they shut the phone off 30 minutes before closing and I don't even know if the machine takes a message. I have only eaten there one other time (ordered the same sandwich then as I did tonight and it had barely any meat in it - even with it being incorrect) and we ate there and I thought they were rude then. Granted to say for the cost of the order, it's not at all worth my money to be treated so rudely on the phone and then STILL not get part of the order right. read more

yes the food was at one time excellent however now a days it seems as if the prices are rising and the quality and quantity has fallen. A Wooster tradition that I have eating at since I was a child. Well I am 47 now and I hate to say it but this place has just gone down hill. The food is still delicious but the customer service is horrendous and the place is just down right dirty. The walls have crud on them for who knows how long. The pictures are dirty and it has been like this for some time. As my family and I have visited this restaurant on several occasions and it is the same dirt and grime and filth on the pictures as every visit before. On this visit a couple of us from work called our order in and was told it would be 30 minutes. We arrived within that 30 minute window give or take a couple minutes. Well the lady at the counter was rude and said no she told us 40 to 45 minutes. Had she actually said that we would have adjusted our lunch time to accommodate this. Well people were coming in off the street and ordering and receiving their food before we did with our call in order. When we inquired she once again told us we were early and she is not Subway, that was obvious because Hero House is ALOT more expensive than Subway. When we finally was called up for our food we informed her that we will now need it bagged so we can take it back to the office and we would not be needing any drinks. She was rude this whole time. I asked if she was the owner and she informed me that yes her and her husband owned it. I informed her that this is the last time I will be eating at the Hero House. She really did not care. She never apologized for how long it took or for the fact that others received their food before us that ordered after us. When we got back to the office I found out that my order was messed up. I ordered the Cheese Steak Deluxe without hot peppers and yup you guessed it, it had hot peppers on it. I also ordered a large fried veggies with ranch, well I received my ranch but instead of getting my veggies I got chicken strips. Horrible service. I called initially to order my food, I then asked for the total and the OWNER stated "we don't give totals, next time get a menu so you can see how much everything costs" in a very nasty attitude. I didn't say anything and just let that go. Then after I got the subs they were very poor so we called back and politely said the subs were not up to par, we then spoke to the OWNER again and she said "oh well, have a nice day". So i've been coming here since I was five. Delicious food, no doubt about that, however the owner ( the woman) is a complete snob! She is ridiculously rude and very very short with the customers! (especially women! she's a peach to my father.. imagine that!) Take for example, last week we ordered food, 2 out of the 4 were incorrectly made, and when we went up to see if she could fix it, she snapped at me and grabbed it out of my hands. I wanted to ask her for some condiments but before I couldn even get it out she snapped its going to be a minute you need to wait. She then proceed NOT to remake the food but to just grab the items off the sub WITH HER BARE HANDS. not cool. If the food wasn't so good I wouldn't go there. As others, I returned to the area after a 30 year absence and the first place I ate lunch at was Hero House. I was so delighted that they were still in business. Yes, the decor had not changed in 30 years. It's small and cramped when they are busy, but the food is incredible!! Their Hero buns are unlike any I have tasted. The bread holds up to an assault of oil and vinegar and somehow retains it's pleasingly chewy texture. All the ingredients are obviously fresh and I can honestly recommend anything on the menu. I love their 'Fair Fries' with vinegar! Sixteen years ago I traveled with my wife through the area and we had lunch at Hero House after telling her how superior it was to ANY Hero I ever had (she WAS a big Subway fan). After a few bites of her Philly Cheesesteak sub she looked at me and stated that she hated me now - there was no way she could ever eat Subway again. My favorite is still their cheeseburger sub and in my younger days could eat a large sub with 4 cheeseburger patties in one sitting - it is sooo good! I am amazed that they still put out the same quality food as they did over 30 years ago. I rated Hero House 5 stars simply because their food allows me to overlook any thought of downgrading for decor or atmosphere. Consider Hero House to be the Susan Boyle of the Hero Shops - what comes out of it's kitchen is sublime! read more
