Not impressed at all today.my husband's steak was covered with salt! so much salt he could hardly eat it he had to scrape it off. his vegetables were terrible no flavor. Right when we walked in no one really acknowledged us. We got seated quicker than we should have because a party didn't show up, so that was nice. I ordered the sweet pork salad. It's quite a big salad but they ran out of the cilantro lime dressing so they gave me ranch. As I was eating I found a nice long hair in my salad.. yuck. I believe that the reviews for this restaurant are FAKE, written by the employees. I will be bringing this story to the news because the poor service you receive puts you at risk for becoming severely sick. We were not greeted by a server for 20 minutes after we were seated. We had to go to the front of the restaurant to have any recognition that our party was there and ready to order. After we ordered our food it took one hour for the food to come to our table. We had a timer running as we waited. Only three food items were delivered while the other starving five family members waited. The three that got their food finished eating while we waited for the rest of the food. After going to the front of the restaurant to demand our food be brought out, the food was cold. The server never came to ask about our food and we didn't have enough silverware. The chicken fried steak was so over cooked it could not be cut with a knife. My steak was ordered as medium well and it came out as rare. I took one bite and felt sick. I brought the steak to the front of the restaurant to the manager. As we were walking out the door they brought another out and the server dropped it on the floor. Others complained of the food being cold, dry, and worried that they would get food poisoning. All the manager did to rectify the situation was offer to pay for the drinks. The drinks were not the problem. The problem was that we were at the risk of becoming sick from the service we received. My wife and I were in Tenonia and were looking for a good place for dinner. We found this restaurant and figured we'd give it a shot. We knew that by the time we got back to our hotel in Teton Village, nothing would be open. This restaurant was well worth the drive! I got the prime rib which is only served Fridays and Saturdays. My wife got the sirloin. We both got the loaded baker babies, which are pearl potatoes topped with bacon, sour cream, and cheese. Amazing! My wife never eats her entire meal. Last night she did. Both of our steaks were cooked to perfection. This was a pleasant surprise and we will be stopping here again if we come through Rexburg. read more

I would not even give this place one star, we had a discusting meal there, my burger was burnt on the outside and raw in the middle, it was on a stale bun with burnt bacon, it all tasted old, the fries were burnt, and they managed to get my order wrong to begin with. The obviously frozen onion rings tasted freezer burnt. The mash potato tasted old and made from instant, the brisket was old and tough. we had an awful time at this place and would not even recomend it to rats let alone people, until Gordon Ramsay has helped them to achieve enlightenment. read more

I tried your restaurant today with my family. We really enjoyed the food. The service in the other hand was terrible. We came in around 11:15. Not many people in the restaurant, placed our order. From there it went down hill. It took over 45 minutes to get our food. The table next to us sat well after we did and got their food first. They forgot his chili and once they brought it didn't bring him a spoon for 10-15 minutes. I went up to the counter to ask what was going on and ask about our order. 2 servers came and went without even acknowledging that I was there . The third said she would look into it. She came out about 5 minutes later and said it wouldn't be too much longer. I told her we were busy had been waiting a long time. Once we received our food the fries were all cold and soggy, the original waitress came by and asked about refills while we were eating. She left with our cups and didn't come back with drinks until after we were finished. It was a terrible experience. No supervisors in sight, nobody came by to apologize after I complained. I hate to say it but no matter how good your food is, customer service keeps businesses open. Your business failed today. read more

Waited 40 minutes for our food and when it came- it was cold. Sandwich was very dry & the fries were burnt. The staff was very friendly and tried their best to fix any issues we had and the prices were fair. This is my favorite place in rexburg my fiance and I discovered it and were hooked. They once gave us cold fries and we were a bit upset but they quickly gave us a brand new batch for no extra cost. Typically they are very good but when they do make mistakes they quickly correct them. I LOVE their potato salad!! read more

We came to Rexburg for the weekend and wanted to take some family out to dinner. It was a nice balance between casual and formal dining. One of us got the ribs (which were huge for a half rack), one got steak, one got shrimp, and the others got sandwiches. Everyone loved their food. This place used to be great but is going down hill fast. The prices are fair and portions are huge but the level of quality makes it not worth the visit anymore. I wasn't impressed by the cold burgers and stale sandwich buns. The service is just plain bad. 10 minutes to get our drinks 20 mins to get our food and then after only 10 minutes of getting our food we were asked to leave to make room for a table of 9 that was coming in. I've been to the hickory multiple times, and I always leave regretting going there. The food is not good. The barbecue flavoring tastes like chemicals and is gross. I don't understand why anyone goes here. The food is terrible and is overpriced. He only thing they have that is good is their lemonade that comes in jar. They got that right. They do two things well here : potatoes and bottomless strawberry lemonade. Barbecue was unfortunately not one of those things. Their meat is baked, not smoked, and so there is little to no smoke flavor. Their pulled pork and brisket tastes like death but on the times the chicken isn't as dry as chalk it can be pretty good. I wish the place was consistently good so I could continue to visit, but I've been embarrassed too many times by bringing friends here to bad food. Burgers are overcooked every time and the BBQ is not edible without massive amounts of sauce. This was my favorite place for a while when it first opened, but its standards have dropped to a point where I will not come again. TLDR; Was great when they first opened but once it became popular they got lazy and stopped caring about making good food. Stay away unless its for baked potatoes. read more

This place used to be awesome. But it's horrible now. Bad service and the burger came out with straight up raw meat in the middle. We sent it back and they brought a new one with the exact same problem. I took it home and finished cooking it myself. I like a barbecue plate that looks like a sampler, with a little of everything the restaurant has to offer. The Hickory delivered, with a little chicken and a little brisket on my platter, green beans and corn, and a biscuit that accented the whole thing nicely. The pulled meats were pretty standard. The brisket is my standard fare, and in it I expected more fattiness, more flavor. It seemed to be dull, pulled way too much. I expect it probably would have been more flavorful the day it came off the grill. I also suspect it just wasn't made with the good fatty cuts of beef that Texans use for the dish. While the flavor was unremarkable, it was, however, quite salty, as was the chicken. This felt like amateur bbq. The comfort level was adequate, but nothing more. This was a busy place, with seating that felt a little flimsy, and a dark ambience meant to instill a homestyle-farmhouse vibe, but which just felt like a dressed up corner space in a crowded L-shaped strip mall, which it is. Were I to be looking for a fast, adequate business lunch with lots of saucey flavor and giant sodas, that could process my group in and out quickly, this would be the place. If I were looking for genuine down-home bbq in any of a number of regional styles (i.e. Memphis, Texas, Southern, Carolina, etc), I'd probably wait till I visited the big city. Worth another try, but I'd expect better meats next time around. read more

This was our first visit, there was a large crowd due to graduation but we were seated within 10 minutes. The server was friendly and helpful. We ordered the pulled pork salad and brisket with sides. The salad was perfect! Husband loved the brisket and onion rings. The potato salad was way too creamy for either of our tastes. The sweet potato fries were soggy. Prices were great, but we are used to Southern California prices. All in all the main dishes were good but the sides were less than mediocre. read more

I love this place!!! My husband and I are regulars here. I love the burgers, Baker babies, pulled pork, Mac n cheese and most everything on the menu. It's a cool and affordable hangout for college kids and also very family friendly. The decor is even rustic and super cute. All of the waiters we've had there are super friendly. I also love that they participate in the local dealio. They only thing that I would say could be better are the fries; they are sometimes decent, but often limp. Also, they had an amazing Valentine's Day special-- I mean any restaurant that gives roses away to women must care about their customers. I have great memories of this place and will continue to give them my business. read more

I have eaten at the hickory many many times since moving to rexburg and each time I have been very satisfied with their food and their service. Overall they are quick to seat you and decently fast at bringing you out your food. The food is pretty good but it is just shy of five stars taste wise. Thirty minutes after we ordered our food our waiter came back and told us they were out of brown sugar pulled pork. Then my kids ordered the filet. When we finally got our food they had sent out a bourbon pulled pork sandwich and the filet would take another 20 mins. They didn't charge us for the sandwich so that was good. When we for our food the potato tasted nasty and you could tell it was cold. I mentioned this and the waiter said that others had complained about this issue. Never did he offer you to discount our meal. Then he didn't bring out salads out until AFTER we had finished our meal. After the check was finally brought out we asked him about the hush puppies that were suppose to be part of the meal, to which he replied, 'oh yea, I guess the back forgot to put it on your plates. Would you like me to go get you some?' Um, no, we are leaving. It was a horrible night, we didn't get a nice meal and I won't be coming back. It used to be a good place to eat. The Hickory is a step in the right direction for Rexburg food establishments, but there is definite room for improvement. The location is too small and can lead to extremely large numbers of people on the weekends. Food has been consistently good and my only complaint is we found a bone in a pulled chicken sandwich on 2 different occasions. We were compensated and learned not to order that item. If you go to the Hickory try it on a weeknight to beat crowds and having to wait in the worlds smallest entry way. Pulled pork is pretty good and portion sizes are pretty decently sized. Hopefully management can keep up with the high demand and attention Rexburg is giving it. read more

Well, where do I start. Yes, it smells like bbq, yes, it looks like bbq, but the taste and quality-IT AIN'T BBQ. Went in on a Monday night, kinda late for Rexburg standards. So, maybe that was my fault for not realizing the the selection was gonna be sketchy. I ordered the special, prime rib sandwich, and a salad. Waitress, who was very nice and accommodating, came and told me that they were outta prime rib. So I got the sampler plate. Brisket, ribs, pulled pork with baked potato. Let's start with the ribs. Three very small overly sauced and way over cooked pathetic looking bones. Ribs should be dry rubbed and left that way. It should be about the meat, not the sauce. When restaurants slather sauce on their ribs, their trying to cover up the fact that there dry and/or over cooked. Please leave them naked and let the customer put their own sauce on if they so choose. Brisket was dry, dry, dry. Pulled pork was ok. Potato was inedible. Please take the time to work on the presentation of the plate. People eat with their eyes first. The biggest rip was that my bill wasn't even adjusted after I told them that it was all of the things I explained above. It's extremely sad when you go into a BBQ restaurant and the best thing you eat was a mediocre garden salad. Get a clue ownership. It really could be so much better. You have to take pride in your BBQ. According to the reviews, I'm not the only one. The one star was for the waitress. read more

Soooo, I've only had the Hickory as a catered meal for a relief society event, and I was super disappointed. We had pulled pork and pulled chicken, along with macaroni salad and coleslaw. The sides were alright, but the pulled pork and chicken were both kinda nasty. The pulled pork tasted like the shredded beef jerky that's supposed to resemble chewing tobacco, and the pulled chicken was just plain dry and gross. Disappointing. My fries were cold and soggy and for reason we were charged an extra dollar for sidewinders my husband ordered. A dollar isn't going to break the bank but the menu is misleading since it says 1.99 extra. The pulled porked was alright. It was dry... is it suppose to be like that? I think the most disappointing of all though was the huckleberry cheesecake. It was just plain terrible cheesecake topped with huckleberry sauce, which wasn't as "magical" as its description. This has been our go-to place for double dates with friends, or when parents/in-laws come to town. It's casual and fun, but tends to be busy, crowded, and louder. Make sure you don't sit under the air conditioner in the front though... You will freeze out like we did! The food is excellent, portion sizes are big, the servers have always been positive and funny, and the price is decent. Don't know if I'd go to this place for a romantic small date since it usually is so busy, crowded, and loud... but it is fun for bigger groups! read more

My food was good - I got the brisket, green beans, and the baked beans. Really enjoyed the beans. Mom and sister shared the ribeye, and they enjoyed that too! My husband and dad said their food wasn't the best - chicken was too dry and they were out of ribs at 5:30pm on a Sat night. Also, there's only one men and one women's restroom for a 200 person occupancy, which is probably not up to code. Not the cleanest, but it was a Sat night. However, our waitress was the SWEETEST! I took my husband here tonight for his birthday dinner. We are new to Rexburg and after doing a little searching I found The Hickory and their pulled pork, which was perfect for my BBQ loving hubs. I ordered the strawberry lemonade and it's delicious. Not too sweet with a nice, light flavor. My husband got the brisket with sweet corn and Mac & cheese and I ordered Mac & cheese with a baked potato and fries. The Mac and cheese is AWESOME. I never order this because my mom makes the best, but this was good. Husband's brisket was good but they bring it out dry which is unusual for us. He pretty much cleaned his plate. They give you A LOT of food. I took home an entire box of leftovers, and that was after eating half my Mac and leaving my fries. The fries were pretty good but the fry sauce was a little heavy on the ketchup. The price was great-we went for dinner and ordered soft drinks and our bill was $22-a dang good deal to us who are from Las Vegas where good food can be pricey. Service was AWESOME! Our server was kind, helpful, and funny. Everybody was super nice. We are big on good service. We will absolutely be back to The Hickory! read more

Tried this place out during my annual summer trip up from Phoenix two weeks ago and was shocked at how delicious it was. Our group of 4 all ordered the pulled pork sandwiches and were all in fits of joy over them. One of the best pulled pork sandwiches of my life. We also got the berry cobbler dessert and in addition to being delicious and piping hot, it had PRESENTATION?? In Rexburg?? It came out in a mason jar with ice cream on the side. Pinterest would be proud. Since Rexburg is sorta where restaurants go to die, I'm crossing my fingers that this place is still there next summer. read more

Solid 3, servers were very nice although with 4 working the desk it took longer to seat us than expected. It was 2 in the afternoon therefore not too busy. We started with the nickel pickles, they are very good. I had the brisket stacker with fries, my wife had the grilled chicken on sourdough with onion rings a 1.99 add on. The brisket was good with a nice ring but was sliced way too thick for a sandwich, Good taste and texture. The fries although appearing hand cut were luke warm thus not very good, I think they sat under a warmer too long. The onion rings are excellent and my wife liked her grilled chicken although she wasn't sure it was really sourdough bread. Good BBQ, we'll probably try again some day. On a side note we finished more than 10 minutes ago and we're still waiting for the bill. read more

One of the few places in Rexburg that has a couple vegetarian options! I love their veggie burger, mac & cheese, and don't forget the fired pickles! As a fried pickle aficionado, this place has one of my favorites. Strawberry lemonade is also amazing, it actually has chunks of strawberries in it.
