The Hideaway Lodge was one of the only reasonably priced accommodations anywhere near Yellowstone, even on a frickin' Tuesday, and with a couple of littles in tow, we needed something quiet, spacious and secluded. With a four bunk room available in a massive cabin with a truly unfathomable number of bedrooms (AT LEAST a dozen, if I recall correctly), and only ~35-ish minutes from the park's west entrance, this place proved to be everything we needed, and more! When we rolled up to the cabin in the early afternoon, we were the only people on site, guests OR staff. Approaching the sliding glass door on the ground floor, we found signage directing us on the self-serve check-in process, which basically boils down to a laminated sheet with your name on it, telling you how to find your room, and the rules of the house. Some rooms came with keys for their locks, while others required a code to lock/unlock them; ours used a code, which was nowhere to be found on our check-in document, but a quick call to the provided number solved the issue. Additional guests would arrive over the course of the evening: in our case, almost entirely consisting of one large party of Taiwanese tourists, who encountered similar issues with keys and door codes. Fortunately for them, I work for an extremely famours Taiwanese company (that they all knew very well), so we instantly hit it off, and I was able to get them the codes they needed, and help them all find their assigned rooms. Left to their own devices, they probably would have figured it out without my assistance, but the site owners should probably be a bit more present or accessible (other than a phone number in an area with no signal coverage, and lacklusterm under-performing wi-fi), especially for foreign tourists, whom might need a little more assistance. Beds were comfy (despitemy wife and I sharing a bunk, which we have done before - our room choice was intentional, due to the kiddos), there were plenty of bathrooms with clean towels, and the second floor boasts a massive kitchen, dining room and and living room (in addition to the smaller living room on the ground floor), meaning that even with nearly 20 people in the house, it never felt crowded, claustrophobic, or noisy. Additionally, the cabin's remoteness lends itself to some spectacular views of the sky at night...when the weather behaves itself. In short, we absolutely would stay here again. There is seemingly no better value for accommodations anywhere near Yellowstone, and if you have some sort of aversion to the concept of "hostels", rest assured that The Hideaway is really nothing of the sort: think of it more like your own personal cabin in the woods, plus a few unexpected guests, and with 100% less hauntings or chainsaw/axe murderers (at least in our experience). I found this place on Airbnb and stayed since it was by far the most affordable option near Yellowstone (still was a good 45 min drive from the west entrance). Honestly tho, I wasn't mad! I booked a bed in a mixed dorm. There were 3 beds in there and I slept in the bottom bunk of one. The kitchen and bathrooms were clean and accessible, and even though others were staying in other rooms, I never had to wait for the bathroom in the two days I stayed. The bed was small but comfortable, and the parking area is out front/huge (no issues at all). It truly felt like staying at a friend's house; the interior wasn't "cabin-y," it was like a suburban house with carpeting and fully functional indoor appliances etc. Overall I thought this was one of the best spots to stay in between days at Yellowstone, I would definitely stay again. read more

I very seldom stay in hostels and only started doing so when traveling with a friend. Mid-June we planned to visit Yellowstone National Park. The Hideaway Lodge is in Island Park, Idaho and it took us 45 minutes to drive to and from West Entrance of Yellowstone. The drive was smooth and very scenic. There was plenty of people staying at The Lodge during my stay. I didn't go upstairs, but there was co-ed spaces up there and sectioned male to female rooms. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. I met a lot of people from different backgrounds, nationalities, races, and life journeys while staying here. A lot of female solo travelers as well from distant states. I met a older guy who drove his motorcycle from Miami, FL to this lodge. Pretty cool! Then he met a Belgium guy that he met in Las Vegas who he convinced to stay here to see Yellowstone together. Wow! I had a great time conversating with everyone. There is one restroom downstairs that was always available when I went in. Quiet hours are strict between 11:00 PM - 6:00 AM. Long showers are prohibited. You have to purchase and bring your own food. Cook your own meals and clean up afterwards. They have plastic bins that you can put your food to store in the refrigerator. Free water bottles to take with you. I enjoyed doing early morning yoga on the back patio. It was very chilly in the morning, but it felt great! Plenty of parking out front. The ladies room I slept in was very stuffy at night, but we opened the windows to let in the cool crisp air. It's bunk beds, the top bunk was a little uncomfortable to get up and out, but it was doable. The bed was very comfortable as well as the pillows. Even at a charger cord nearby the pillow. Rules are located throughout the The Lodge, so others won't go breaking them. I met the owner at her hostel near The Grand Tetons, she's a nice and kind hearted lady. She makes these accommodations for a good cause; help building schools for underprivileged children overseas. I enjoyed my stay at this hostel. I'll stay here again. I felt safe here. I can't wait to stay here as a solo traveler! read more
