The guy who checked us in was personable. We arrived at 11PM. It was nice that he waited for the last two guest parties to arrive, of which we were one. We were assigned Room #30: *Only room facing the street. It was probably larger than the other rooms and had more of a cabin feel to it. It was spacious! *We had a Queen Bed and there was a bonus Twin Bed, too *Older bed with squeaky springs *No Fridge, Microwave, Hair Dryer, Facial Tissues nor disposable cups *Had an A/C Unit *They use a real metal key with a retro motel keychain *Parking is available in their lot and on the street *No Breakfast is offered *Free coffee is available at the Mobil Gas Station next door, just show your room key. That was really nice! We only went to the office to check-in and check-out. We stayed 2 nights and went to Yellowstone National Park. I booked via Booking.com. for $199 per night plus tax. I'll give it four stars. The location is as close as you can get to the West Entrance of Yellowstone. You will also have a bunch of restaurants, coffee shops, bars, stores within walking distance. The lobby is pretty cool - very rustic Western cowboy décor. And the owner was warm and friendly. However, I wished it had more amenities. For example, I didn't have a hair dryer in my room nor did they serve breakfast. However, there is nearby gas station - if I remember right - that will give you free coffee and tea if you mentioned you were staying here. Nothing really dealbreaking for me, but worth knowing if those little comforts matter to you . read more

I stayed only one night...but that was enough for me! Before 7:00 am, as I dropped off my key and was returning to my car to leave, a burly, surly man confronted me in the parking lot. My dog had abruptly stopped and peed in the rain/hail flooded parking lot. He IMMEDIATELY appeared and instructed me on Montana Law. He was belligerent as he let me know I 'must clean up after my dog!' How one can retrieve dog piss is something I clearly need to study up on...now that I've been properly educated! Based upon his fashion statement (monotone and worn several days, by my observation (I saw him the afternoon when I checked in!), and, given his aggressive confrontation, I would guess he is unmarried...and apparently the breakup was pretty nasty. The motel was fairly well maintained--'50's era structure repaired and painted many times. Spartan accommodation (no hair dryer. No coffee and the aforementioned jerk) I was surprised by his confrontation and, before I could caution him to NOT be a dick, he proved my impression! Staff appeared fearful of this gentleman, seemingly the targets of his hostilities! Overpriced, lacking basic housekeeping items, EARLY check out time (10 am) and and late check in (4:00 pm)...& the added pleasure of this fine and welcoming gentleman! Caveat emptor!!! read more

I chose this motel for its location, right outside the West entrance of the Yellowstones national park. We arrived late, but we appreciated the fact that the staff left us with instructions how to get to our room, and how to check in the next morning. Clean room with tv and fridge; however, no coffee.maker or microwave. When we asked for microwave, we were told to come to Mobile Gas Station the next morning, we could use the microwave there since the 2 have the same owner. However, when we used the microwave to warm up corns on the cobs, the clerk at the gas station was upset with us using it too long. Well, I do not see why the motel owner didn't buy a microwave for the motel guests who need it to use vice begging for services at the gas station. We found Al's Westward Ho Motel to be the perfect spot for our 3-night base for exploring Yellowstone National Park. The room was clean, the beds comfortable, the water pressure excellent, and the towels clean. We had read to not expect amenities such as coffee, ice, a microwave, or refrigerator. Good to know, and not necessary. It was terrific to have the owner, Cole, welcome us and provide all the information we needed to have a terrific experience in the area. I would stay here again. Entering Yellowstone from the west entrance is great. Being able to exit the west entrance and turn directly into Al's Westward Ho Motel was lovely. We had great cell service and Wi-Fi. Walking distance to everything downtown. read more

Clean and excellent location. Water pressure is good. Bed and lighting not the best. We stayed three nights, two were fine, one not so great. The noice level depends on cooperation from other guests. I feel the online marketing was great for this motel. I do not feel like the cost of the room matched what we got. No ice machines, or hair dryers, had to go to the gas station next door for coffee. Zero amenities, $223 for the room. The white towels need to be bleached. Wash cloths were dirty. Other than that the owners/ workers were very friendly. read more

Maybe I am being influence by a my feelings about a business trying to cope with a states restrictions due to Covid but if a business is running reduced services due to Covid I'd have appreciated a slightly reduced rate. (The motel wasn't at full capacity but was quite busy). First, we had to change our original reservation by a few days, but gave Al plenty of notice and called twice trying to make sure the reservations had been changed. When we got there, they said we didn't have a reservation for that day but the young lady found the note saying to change the dates but it had never been updated!! Thank God for Covid or we would have been "up a creek!" They were able to give us a room. It cost nearly twice as much as other motels during our vacation, due to its close proximity to Yellowstone. It was a large clean room with firm comfortable beds. Now for what it didn't provide, in comparison to another 1/4 the price motel we stayed at. NO refrigerator, no microwave, no hair dryer, no ice, ice bucket or access to free ice and of course no breakfast. Plus NO CLEANING of our room for our entire stay! (We only stayed 3 nights so it wasn't too gross). If we needed tissues, TP, or fresh towels, we had to get them at the front desk. Which the did provide, graciously. It was a relatively nice place to stay, close to Yellowstone, but I think I would check out the amenities and costs at the many other motels in the town before deciding to stay here again. read more

I stayed here as a teenage girl with one other friend of similar age. The owner made us feel very safe and even stayed late because we didn't arrive until past 10pm. He ensured that we knew of everything to do in the area and provided us with maps and pamphlets. The owner also offers free coffee at the gas station he owns which is just around the corner. The rooms were clean and the location is great as you are only a block or two from the entrance to Yellowstone. Overall this was a great place to stay on our road trip! read more

A class act family run motel. Both generations of family come together to make your stay informed and comfortable. The rooms are very clean and the motel is in the process of being remodeled. Our room which was recently completed, had brand new pillow top mattresses that were very comfortable. It appears that the rooms in need of remodel are not being used for guests, so you can be quite assured you will receive the upgraded digs. Mind you, Al's is still a budget place, but now with such things as fresh bedding, new mattress, and flat screen tv, you can't go wrong. We paid $120 for a room and there were three of us. Like I said, get to know the staff and bask in their knowledge of Yellowstone that only a local family knows. The lobby is decorated as if it is a time capsule of many moons ago, and it is AWESOME. July in West Yellowstone= $197/night price for an $89/night quality Motel. A clean BASIC room. No coffee (free at gas station), no ice, no charging ports, no hair dryer, etc. Just the basics; beds, tv, mirror, small soaps and shampoo tubes. Do not stay in room #111. We were under and next to the stairs. Loud banging from people going up and down the stairs until about 11pm and starting again at 600am. The motel is ok. It is way overpriced for what they offer. They don't offer the amenities In most motels. ( ie not having a hair dryer in the room, they did give us one but we had to ask. ) No microwave in room either . You have to go the gas station to use their microwave or get coffee. Me and my wife reserved a single queen bed room, but when we got to our room it was a double bed and a twin bed. So we could choose to either squeeze into a tiny double bed, or sleep in separate beds. Wow, what a romantic getaway! Went to the front desk to ask for another room with a queen bed and was told there was nothing they could do because "that's where the owner assigned us." Apparently the front desk has no control over room assignments which makes totally no sense, that's what a front desk is supposed to do. And there were tons of ground floor rooms with queen beds available, we could see inside through the large open windows. Anyway, the discussion with the young lady wasn't going anywhere so an even ruder man came out to tell us the same information. He even told us that he'd charge us a cancellation fee if we didn't accept the room we were given. Eventually we demanded a refund and went to a better hotel The lesson learned from Al's Westward Ho is buyer beware with the type of room you reserve, you'll just get whatever room they feel like assigning you even though it differs from your reservation. read more

The only reason to stay here was the cheap price--certainly not the decor, the quality, or the service. My spouse and I reserved a queen room weeks in advance. When we arrived, we had instead been assigned a room with 2 twin beds. We complained, and asked what was the point of reserving, since Mrs. Parker had given away all the queens to other travelers. Her entire reply: "You have a room that is adequate for two people." (!?!) Since when are 2 twin beds considered "adequate" for a married couple? Other motels seem to be able to manage their reservations better than this -- or at least say "I'm sorry" when they don't. In addition, the room was far too bright at night. We draped every towel, washcloth, and anything we could find, over the curtain rods, because the curtains were wholly inadequate. read more

Decor is a little out of date, reminds me of my grandparents' house or an episode of mad men. But it was very clean, inexpensive, and the shower had plenty of water pressure. Very nice motel right next to the west entrance of Yellowstone National Park. When I say right next to the entrance...I mean you can see it from the office. Don't judge a book by the cover as the exterior is a little "rustic", but the room we were in was very clean (room 38, 2 x queen beds). The price was well below most of the options I looked at in this tourist town during the height of the park season. The only thing I would have liked in the room was a coffee pot or at least something to boil some water and a small refrigerator. However, there are so many places within walking distance to get whatever you need. I will definitely look here first when I head back to Yellowstone. read more

Very nice, big, clean room...we stayed in rm 44 just recently for a week, and it was very pleasent! Service was great! Fresh towels and a clean room every day... they have updated the inside of the rooms, and it looks great! Bathroom very clean and updated... no coffee maker, but they do offer free coffee for hotel guests right next door at the gas station... very affordable and close to everything! HIDDEN GEM!!! Right by the West gate entrance of Yellowstone and I paid the same price for 2 nights that I would for 1 night in a chain hotel. I was pleasantly surprised at how spacious the room was. I would consider this West Yellowstone's best kept secret. We stayed in room #23. It was 2 big spacious, clean rooms with 3 clean, comfortable queen size beds. Don't let the outside of the motel scare you, it really is nicer than it appears to be. The owner was also very nice and easy to work with. The price was a steal of a deal as well, considering it is right around the corner from the west entrance of Yellowstone National Park.
