We went in last night and dinner was delicious and cooked perfectly. The service was ok, our server was trying to up sell the menu with add ons and it felt like we were at a car dealership. We sat in a booth and it was the most uncomfortable thing ever. We went in as a party of 4. We had 2 apps, bone marrow and bang bang shrimp. When then had ala Carte filet, two steak frites, and a pork chop. We also had 2 popovers, 3 beeers and a glass of wine. Our bill was 399.46.

The dining experience was amazing. Yoyo met me at the door, and I met the bartender Karl. I felt like I was at home. The crew were so kind, great recommendations include: Grilled Scallops as a starter, the fillets were cooked to perfection, and what a phenomenal wine selection! The steak was perfectly cooked and the service was top notch. As a solo yelper I felt very safe and welcome. I felt so catered to, will be back as soon as possible! See y'all at sunset!

Amazing Staff and food!!! These pictures are 1.5 years apart... This restaurant keeps their staff and their customers coming back!!! Thank you Jaden and Yoanna!

The Grill Room (like all the other room restaurants) is slept on in my opinion. The menu has something for every meat lover and the portions are ample! Sitting at the chefs counter is a really cool experience!! The bill will be pricey.

We went the night before Valentine's Day and had a phenomenal meal. We have been to The Grill Room many times and don't ever have a bad meal there. They are one of our go-to restaurants because of this. If you can get a seat at the kitchen, do it and watch the chefs do their thing. You can also sit at bar if tables are full. I had the hangar steak entree with chimichurri and it was packed with flavor. Perfectly cooked steak! I also got the spicy broccolini, which was still crisp and had a good kick. My husband had the duck. If you don't think you like duck, you haven't tried it here! Best duck we have had with no gamey taste. Dessert was an excellent crème brûlée. Very professional waitstaff who are very good at their jobs. Highly recommend the Grill Room for a nice meal in Portland. There is a reason it has been around as long as it has!

Ambience is loud but appropriate. Sat at the chef counter and watched the action! Had baked Brie, escargot, scallops, duck, Brussels sprouts and carrots. All was excellent and service was great!

Jaden was an awesome host, the staff was super friendly, the food was absolutely incredible. My trout meal was 10/10 and everyone I was with highly enjoyed their meals. The oysters were some of the best and so fresh, perfectly cold. I also really enjoyed how fantastic the mignonette was the horseradish was shaved and so fresh, the wine we wanted wasn't available but what we got was fantastic. The spot was cozy, lovely, and the whole place was great energy from the minute you enter. Would absolutely go back. If you and when you go do not sleep on the trout. Incredible! Thanks Jaden you were great!

Love this place. Find a table and you will be able to enjoy the delicious variety of food on the menu but if you are lucky sit at the bar and you will have the full experience. I have not had a bad experience here.Wife and I just celebrate our anniversary dinner and again amazing.

Duck with spinach, shrooms, and roasted carrots!

The Grill Room is perhaps Portland, Maine's greatest in town restaurant! They have every side and sauce imaginable and a complete list of entrees, wines, beers, liquors, and desserts. You can order an entree or a la cart! You have so many options and the wait staff is wonderful! The Head Chef Elaina chatted with us at the bar and visited our table too! The pretzel and Carmel cheese cake was fire! And the duck and filet surf and turf was terrific! And the lobster risotto to go was delicious! We had great table neighbors, a view of the kitchen, friendly wait staff, and the ambiance is cozy!

Went there for dinner with 2 friends. We were glad we made a reservation as the place was packed. Our server Jayden (?) was friendly and attentive. Really enjoyed the green salad I picked as a starter as the produce was very fresh. My friend was disappointed that they sold out of the popovers she ordered. My scallop entree with lobster risotto was delicious and worth every penny. Deducting 2 stars as the truffle fry basket we were convinced to order as a side with our entrees was $21 and made all 3 of us sick (we all had different entrees so had to have been this).

I enjoyed it here a lot for my 24th birthday but they gave us a table that was next to a huge party of 6-8 when we were only 2, and being so close to the kitchen meant we could barely have a conversation. The spicy broccolini on the new york strip ruined it completely. The food was very good and it's a fantastic place for quality, casual food at a quick pace. The open kitchen is lovely and it's a firey atmosphere. Not sure if I'd come back but maybe for another special occasion if we could get a better table.

(Edit on 10/20/25 per their social media they closed instead of being open until November). As you may know they are owned by popular next door restaurant High Roller Lobster. This space sounds like it will be transformed into more space for that business once they close. My wife and I haven't been back since around the opening and found ourselves having time to revisit one more time before they closed. We enjoyed our first visit and no complaints for this recent and last one either! They were missing some items, I suspect due to closing soon. Place was quite busy so we sat in the upper section in a large booth and grabbed some cocktails to start. I grabbed a Ring Of Fire and my wife got the Strawberry Bee's Knees. Both were well made drinks and a good start before our meal. We both decided to have their Snowboard Chicken which the menu explained were "Four Giant, Hand-Battered Chicken Tenders" with two sauces. They certainly were not exaggerating when they used the word giant! We would have been better off just sharing an order of it! The breading had tons of flavor and was well seasoned. Fries came out hot and were crispy and well seasoned too. Despite visiting only the two times my wife and I enjoyed this restaurant in all aspects. Had a great theming overall with nice decor and a great overall atmosphere. Friendly staff and tasty cocktails and food! If you are a fan and want to revisit one last time or haven't checked it out you have some limited time before they close their doors.

We are so lucky to walk up at 8 pm and get a table. Not any table, but next to the kitchen. It was so awesome to sit there and watch their masterpieces come to life. The amount of pans and flames on the fire was pretty cool. We waited a bit for our waiter, but once he arrived he was attentive and did well. Bread service was delicious. Butter cokes our very cold, we used the candle to warm it. They wait staff got a chuckle out of that and said rush cooks give us melted butter. Ha ha We ordered the grilled octopus as an appetizer. Deliciously prepared and cooked. Mmmm. I ordered the special--Tuna Ragu My husband sword fish Swordfish was a little over cooked but the flavor was very good. Fish. Delicious. Now let's talk about the tuna Ragu. It was the most delicious strange thing I've had yet on this trip. My Brain was like... why is there fish in this pasta and my tastebuds are like who the heck cares this amazing. The homemade pasta was delicate and fluffy yet cooked al dente and soaked up all the sauce/gravy. The tuna had a slight fish taste, but it was fresh- perfect and not over whelming. There had to be a spicy sausage hidden in there because every other bite was bursting with a spicy hint. Absolute perfection! They tried to give us the dessert menu, but we were so full. If you can get in on a walk in night. Definitely do it!

It's likely we just showed up during an off day/time but left more disappointed than excited. Booked a reservation for my wife and I to celebrate our anniversary of when we started dating and they did include a card thanking us for choosing to celebrate it with them. Was a nice little touch. Inside has a rustic feeling vibe and the low ceilings does make it quite loud. Our server eventually greeted us and took our drink orders. I had a spicy tequila cocktail called Kissies and Poppies while my wife had a gin based cocktail called Secret Garden. Both were decent but nothing special enough to rush back for. Appetizer wise the only one on their menu during our visit was freshly sliced prosciutto which was tasty but did not stand out anymore than your typical grocery store prosciutto. For the main event and the purpose of checking them out my wife got the Shrimp Linguine in Butter and Garlic. I gave their Grilled Lobster Linguine in Butter and Garlic a try. Both dishes had great flavor and they did not skimp on garlic! Lobster does come in shell and our server did warn us. Despite the good taste the slow service really left a sour taste in our mouths. Our reservation was for 9:30 PM (showed up a bit early) and didn't receive food til almost 10:30 or after and we ordered relatively quick. Our server did come over once during our wait saying it would be soon. Though once we got our food the server didn't check on us again til we finished. Maybe it was due to being part of the last meals being served. Not a great excuse but who knows, extremely lackluster service for a higher end spot that should make you feel welcome! We did skip out on dessert to avoid more waiting. Im glad so many people enjoy this spot, but if my wife and I are feeling a nicer dinner we will go elsewhere!

The lemon sole (fish) and octopus carpaccio (not pictured) were filled with flavor! The pork belly was very underwhelming and I would not order again. The waiter said 2-4 plates per person. I recommend starting on the lower end and adding additional dishes based on how you're feeling. The amount of food was very different from dish to dish. For example the tuna dip had way too much bread and the pork belly was very small in size. Overall I was half impressed. I wish the staff would take a moment to announce the plate as it's placed next to you or point it out on the menu for those hard of hearing and wanting to know what they are about to enjoy. However the music, overall restaurant vibe and half the dishes exploding with flavor made my experience pleasant and I will return again knowing a bit more of what to expect and looking at photos of the menu/meal options beforehand.

I loved that it was right by the harbor and you could see the ocean right outside. I felt like the service was pretty standard, but the food was disappointing. We got the cornbread and the fried squid with cherry peppers to start. We also ordered the halibut ceviche, the fish and chips, and the seared scallops. The corn bread was decent at best. The butter it was paired with was good, but overall the dish was nothing special. (6/10) The fried squid with cherry peppers was one of the better dishes of the night. The squid was well cooked and tender. I liked the thin and cripsy batter on the squid and the peppers. The sour/sweet taste of the peppers with the squid paired well and I liked all the sauces it came with as well. (7.5/10) The halibut ceviche was not what I expected at all. The halibut was bland and very chewy. The dish was more like a crudo than a ceviche. Though the fish was fresh it was not representative of a ceviche. (4/10) The fish and chips were also a disappointment. The fish batter was way too thick for my liking though the fish inside was perfectly cooked. I also was not a fan of the beer batter itself. The fries were too salty. The best thing on the plate was the tartar sauce. (5/10) The scallops were super tender and cooked perfectly. I liked the bits of bacon and mushroom on the plate as well. The plating is also stunning. The flavors of this dish were the best out of everything we tried. (8.8/10) Overall, the restaurant is gorgeous and feels upscale and the service is decent, but the food was a let-down for me. At this high of a price point, I just expected the flavors/ quality of the dishes to be better. Though there were some good dishes, the majority of the food we had was not on par with other seafood restaurants I have tried. We could have just gotten the wrong things, but I wouldn't go back based on my experience.
