Came here for breakfast. Drink: vanilla latte with almond milk - perfect Entree: two eggs over easy with bacon and potatoes. Side of English muffins with homemade strawberry jelly. Homemade jelly is always very yummy! Entree: omelette with three different proteins and green peppers- forgot to ask to leave out the cheese but overall cooked perfectly and tasted great. Side: honey butter waffle - light and fluffy with the perfect crisp. Are it with their honey and strawberry jelly was very tasty. Ambiance: love the house style eateries. Outdoor and indoor seating. Very pleasant and quaint. There's even a couple beehive boxes located in the back behind the parking lot! Staff and chef: both are very attentive and checking in on us and great interaction. I so desperately wanted to have a better dining experience as was suggested by some of the creative writers here had suggested, but sadly, it was ho-hum at best. Yes, it's a mom-and-pop kinda place. Yes, it does have some charm going for it. I am there for good quality food at a reasonable price, which I did not find on the menu. Lets start with coffee. Naturally the upsell is to buy something from upstairs with whipped cream and syrup at a national chain latte price. I wanted a basic coffee and what I got was an overpriced $3 house blend which was pedestrian at best. Move on to the waffle. I travel extensively and stay in hotels with a make your own waffle stand at the breakfast bar. The honey berry waffle I had here tasted exactly like those waffles that I make across the US and Canada. The difference at The Hive is 1/4 cup of mixed berries (they did seem to be fresh), a liberal dollop of whipped cream, and a drizzle of honey flavoring for $12 ($9 for the waffle and $3 for the topping)! Oh, I cannot even begin to think of anything positive to say about the $4 scones. Sigh, I really wanted a more dynamic experience than what I received. I really want to find a local place to take guests for an exceptional breakfast/brunch experience, but sadly The Hive isn't that place. read more

I was super excited to try this place and leave them a five star review yet I had a lot of trouble doing that. 30 minutes in to my visit, I was only going to leave yet Kitchen Matt kind of saved the day! If you've followed me for any amount of time, you know I'm allergic to wheat and that's a huge deal when deciding on where to eat. Found this place on Yelp and was super excited to try it for breakfast! Even when I drove up, I could tell this place is popular. The parking lot was so full, that I parked next door at the piano shop. Thankfully, they're not open until later! The ambiance walking in is welcoming, funky and fun! Upstairs is the bakery and cafe, order at the counter and find a table. Downstairs is full service, sit down breakfast, including getting a cappuccino! Good yet not great service from Dee this morning, she kept forgetting to follow up. I was at table #15, close to the kitchen. All wait staff walked by my table over and over so I was able to flag down staff when I needed something. Honestly, I should not have to flag down a wait staff to get coffee, food, or napkins. I had to flag almost everything down. Examples: Dee didn't know the password for the guest Wi-Fi. I walked upstairs and asked the baristas to get the code. All staff should know or be able to ask for a wifi code. My cappuccino went to the wrong table. Dee walked by for at least ten minutes without ever asking where my coffee was. I just thought "wow it takes forever for a cappuccino"! Yet the table close by said "hey this is not our cappuccino" when they're coffee was delivered and I said "oh hey! That's where my cappuccino went!" I would have waited longer had I not spoke up. My first plate of food looked fabulous yet the food temp was only lukewarm. Nothing on my plate was hot. After a couple of bites, I pushed my plate away and waited. And waited and waited. I finally flagged Dee down to get a replacement plate. I flagged her down altho I know she saw my pushed aside plate. When I was telling her the issue she said "she brought it out straight off the grill" (she being the other waitstaff). So I said well if lukewarm is all they've got, that's okay, don't bother. Then Dee said yes they could remake the plate and try again. The remade brekkie came out hot, all temps as they should be. (Not sure what happened the first time, yet that reinforced to me it didn't come straight off the grill.) Matt from the kitchen came out, he offered my gluten free toast in the form of a bagel and it was the right choice! Matt brought me some strawberry jam to try, it was delish on the bagel! Dee works great as part of the team. She's great at greeting guests and getting their orders right. She new so I'm sure she'll get to know her products a little better. She forgot to bring me black coffee and extra napkins yet Matt filled those requests for me. As Matt walks by taking care of guests or delivering food, he's great at eye contact. Matt was very amenable to getting my coffee refill, extra napkins and side butter. Food and group service are overall really good. I'll likely be back and bring my niece! read more

Visited last week with a friend on a Tuesday for lunch. I' always see them recommended for breakfast but honestly I do not see the hype. Nothing either one of us had was special, pretty ordinary. I'm still in shock! I met a friend at The Hive for brunch yesterday (as we have done before). Everything was going fine until a lady (maybe a manager?) came over and, in the sweetest voice she could muster up, said, "I'm sorry ladies, but we need this table. We have a really long wait list and usually ask that you only stay about an hour." WHAT!?!? What restaurant puts a time limit on how long you can stay there??? After a super walk in a nearby park, my friend treated me to breakfast at The Hive. Timing is important, as this place is justifiably popular. While the parking lot was really busy, we got lucky and scored a table right away in the buzzy and bustling dining room. Apparently, the Hive makes great baked goods but I was craving something savory the morning of my visit. I went with the Corned Comfort Bowl, which featured generous slices of corned beef, scrambled eggs and cheddar cheese atop chunky home style potatoes. With a generous serving of hot sauce and a delicious latte, as well as some kind words from our excellent server, my day was off to a great start. Looking forward to my next visit! read more

If you are in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport area, you should stop by the hive for breakfast. The establishment has bee hives in the back of the restaurant, so many of their offerings have fresh honey! We stopped by, and after a quick wait, we were seated. Our server was very friendly and was helpful with the ordering. We had the Waffles with honey drizzled on top and the Sweet Cream Pancakes. Absolutely another level of flavor that will satisfy your sweet tooth. I had egg whites and turkey sausage, so there's a wide spectrum of choices here. I use the phrase hidden gem sometimes in my reviews but this place is really one hidden in Erlanger. It's an adorable place with a restaurant bakery and cafe. Everything is fresh and the bread is made there. I ordered the Italian beef sandwich with au jus and a Bloody Mary. Perfection. My friend got the meatball Parmesan and was in heaven. Three of stopped at The Hive this morning, before dropping our rental car at the airport. My wife had one of the breakfast bowls, I had the Classic (biscuit and gravy and scrambled eggs) and a side of cheesy grits and my son had a sausage patty, scrambled eggs and cheesy grits. I love that they have a pitcher option for the mimosas and it was served as mix your own--which always makes me happy cause I like my bubbly drinks with a splash of juice. The food is reminiscent of a Jersey diner/deli and we were hoping for a more Urban NY breakfast. All of the staff that worked on Thursday morning were extremely friendly and kind, they brought my son a fruit bowl while he waited for his pancake and it made him so happy. If you're in the mood for home cooked breakfast but don't want to make it yourself then go to The Hive. I've visited the Hive a couple times and the service was great both times. The food was perfectly cooked but it was all as basic as you would imagine for home cooked breakfast. No twists on breakfast dishes or unique spices just good traditional dishes. The only real highlight for me would be the biscuits that has just the right amount of honey. The restaurant itself is quite cozy and features beautiful be themed art. Plenty of seating and none of the tables feel cramped. The coffee bar upstairs is a must visit as well but you can order drinks from there with your meal if you prefer. read more

While on vacation we Googled restaurants in Erlanger, KY 41018 and The Hive was one of the suggestions, so we decided to give it a try. It turned out to be a great decision. It was packed when we got there so I was very surprised when we got a table sooner than I thought. Our server was Melia and she did an excellent job waiting on us. We like to add, subtract items on our food orders and she did an excellent job getting it right the first time. She made sure our drinks were full and had a fun personality which made it an enjoyable experience. The food was worth whatever wait time we had to wait. This has been on my list for a while and I instantly understood all of the hype as soon as we got there. The ambience was very relaxed. The food was really good, granted I could have made everything we ordered at home. It was nice to have a morning off and a chill brunch date, though. The service was a little slow for it not being all that busy on a Saturday morning, but there was plenty of art and music to enjoy while waiting. After we ate, we paid our bill and headed upstairs to check out the little café. I think this was my favorite part and I will likely head straight upstairs next time. They serve some local favorites, Moonrise Donuts and Carabello Coffee, among plenty of house-made treats. Overall, a charming and quaint little spot. read more

We were in the area for a concert the night before. We were looking for a place for breakfast near our hotel before heading home. Found The Hive on Yelp and decided to give it a try. It was fairly just when we got there but we were seated in less time than they had said the wait was. Then our server Beau was great. She gave us recommendations and offered us a sample of Goetta, a local specialty we weren't familiar with. She was very attention and checked on us regularly refilling coffee and water. The food menu had some unique items and had a good variety. The food we had was very good. Wife had an omelet that was overstuffed with meat. My Beekeepers bowl was very good. Daughter had a lemon crème cheese bourbon French toast that was very good. I highly recommend this place and when you go hope you get Beau as your server. read more

Give this place a 3.4/5. I think it has good potential but is missing the mark. The scrambled eggs weren't fully cooked- I don't like French eggs (watery). I got the basic egg plate scrambled, bacon, potatoes, and English muffin. The EM wasn't toasted much at all. Bacon was very good and potatoes were average, not bad. I really liked the variety of the menu and saw some really great choices I've never thought of or seen at other breakfast spots. So for that, I did give them a 4 star review. If I am in the area again I'll try a new breakfast item like the quesadilla or the brioche bun pork roll sandwich. Overall it was good but I definitely prefer my usual breakfast spots. read more

Service great. Love the food. A little crowded at lunch time, dinning room is rather small. They are quick to set you once a table opens up.

I got the goat cheese and honey nut toast and a piece of goetta. Paid $13 including tip. There wasn't enough goat cheese for a piece of toast to be $7 the goetta was thick and cooked perfect. I think I would go back and get something different and maybe adjust my rating but they should change the price of that piece of toast. read more

The breakfast pizza. Yes, you read that right!! The perfect layering of crust, gravy, eggs, cheese and potatoes plus I added goetta. Definitely more than enough food for one person. I loved the flavor and I had ordered online ahead of coming in, with my food being hot and ready when I got there. I had also pre-ordered a special box of fall desserts they were offering, all of which were light and delicious. We stopped in The Hive for coffee and a quick breakfast. It was a delightful treat. I initially thought it would be more like a walk-up coffee cafe setting, but it's not. It's a sit down restaurant, which was fine with us. I ordered a Sugar-free Caramel Latte and a 2 egg breakfast with bacon. Every bit of it was wonderful. The only improvement I think they could make with the food is the biscuits. They were tasty, but the batch we got was overcooked, so they were dark and crunchy.
